The Amex Platinum is not that great here in canada, FX fees and mediocore earning multiples honestly. If you travel a lot internationaly even just to the US, you are going to lose 2.5% on FX fees every time which definitley adds up. Amex lounges are great but only really available in north america with a few exceptions in London and HK, which means priority pass is really what you are going to be using. I think getting Scotiabank Passport Infinite is a great option becasue you get free passes for lounges and no fx fees. The US amex platinum is way better.

edit: as concluded from this thread, Walmart does accept amex but they are not considered "grocery" so no 5x
and it seems that "only Loblaws and Costco" do not accept amex, so Metro / Sobeys DO accept it
so it could work for you.

    • @PrinceofTravel

Both are excellent cards. Choosing one over the other would depend on whether you mainly travel with Air Canada and Star Alliance partners, or if you don’t. The Aeroplan Reserve is great for perks with Air Canada, but doesn’t offer you many benefits when travelling with other airlines. The Platinum card gives you strong lounge access around the world, as well as other benefits like mid-tier status with some hotel loyalty programs.
