The first level of The Guardian Legend for NES may not be the hardest...but it could blow you away in seconds if you don't pay close attention to all the enemies and the laser cannon placements.
There is an error with Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, the gold armor doesn’t increase your hits by three. You take two hits regardless of what armor you have on.

Sonic 06 Wave Ocean (Sonic) should have deserved a mention for a hard beginning, glitchy yes but its difficulty for first few tries is understandable especially on the chasing Princess Elise portion towards the end of the level as said glitchy yes but upon replaying Sonic's high speed really goes off the charts.

Code Vein should be on this list, the game doesn’t really start until you beat the first boss, but the first level is a fucking pain because the game throws swarms of enemies at you while your healing is uneven af for a majority of the game, to top it off the first boss is completely unfair and the game gives you absolutely nothing to deal with it or make it balanced
Nier: Automata's opening 2 hours are so brutal because you are basically trying to learn all the mechanics of the game, complete with no save points. I wonder if Irenacus' dungeon is going to feature on here...
LOL I played Driver as a kid and was so frustrated by the first level because I know the game gets better. However I don't think that's the hardest 1st level. An old game I played recently for the SNES called Space Ace was nearly impossible to complete the first seconds of the first screen of the first stage!

Should’ve said DS3. Everyone new to the Dark Souls series who had DS3 as their first game knows the pain of Iudex Gundyr. Kicked my butt for more than 20 times until I beat him.

Y’all never tried Halo 2? Try on LASO(legendary all skulls on). It took 20 years for dude to finally beat Halo 2 on LASO without dying. And yes, the very first mission is extremely hard.
You picked the wrong installment for #3. Hard as the whole series is, Ghouls 'n Ghosts (the non-Super one) is uniquely infuriating. In the first half of Stage 1, you have to contend with Skeleton Murderers, ravenous vultures and anachronistic guillotines (they were invented in 1792), but in the second half, you have to contend with Sickle Weasels in high wind and killer tree roots that pop out at random, barely mitigated by the fact that you can attack in four directions. Also, that thing about the Golden Armor? It's actually the Moon Shield that can withstand a single projectile, three for the Sun Shield; the armor itself still comes off after one hit. Finally, you totally subbed Moscow from Konami's Mission: Impossible.
Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Driver, Ninja Gaiden, Bloodborne and Dark Souls first levels... all of which made me rage quit so hard the police showed up in riot gear.
I used to play contra with my dad and my younger brother in 2003 and 2007. We never pass the second level. We didn't even knew about the code until 2014.
In re4 I finally put my beer down and concentrated on making sure I got the chainsaw man intentionally. Then when the bell rings I can pick it up again feeling well deserved
A lot of the ones from 20-10 aren't hard. I remember as a kid the first mission of the men in black 2 game shooter for ps2 was so fuking hard.still remember when my dad bought it for me the employee at gamestop told him if he was sure as it would be too hard for a child. Luckily for me my dad was a gamer and I watched him beat it for me. 🤣

Ifrit from Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII!
How did Tomb Raider 3 not make it on this list?
My dad loves Star Wars! I'm sure he would love to play those Star Wars Games if he had the chance!
LOL I played Driver as a kid and was so frustrated by the first level because I know the game gets better. However I don't think that's the hardest 1st level. An old game I played recently for the SNES called Space Ace was nearly impossible to complete the first seconds of the first screen of the first stage!
Putting driver in the 1st place is the most appropriate thing to do in this video.
I was hoping driver was gonna be on here but didn’t realize it would be number 1 haha but it was the only game that I ever broke the disc on haha if only I had easier access to the internet 😂
Others are Prince of Persia,Crash Bandicoot,Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania considered as first hard game levels.
Wouldn’t say the first level of crash bandicoot was difficult

Sonic 2, but the Game Gear version, with the Ant
The Piramid- Aztec Challenge C64
That Driver tutorial is why I never ended up playing Driver lol
The First Prince of persia has a real hard beginning
i still remember.....
That’s totally pain to see!
I remember that Nioh 2 first stage always made me give up imediately.
If you’re gonna reference the Drawbridge level from Dragon’s Lair…maybe show footage from that level???
HM: World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. That damn poison mushroom got me and I was playing the SNES remake on LodgeNet!
I've played 3 or the games on this list. 2 of them are Resident Evil 4 and Nier: Automata and I feel like they weren't hat hard but the third one is Bloodborne and yeah, for a newcomer the beginning was pretty tough.
My Driver memories are fond af. Idk what this dude is talking about
Honorable mention: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Enough said.
"Whatever the hell a slalom is" really shows off some impressive ignorance.
Should’ve said DS3. Everyone new to the Dark Souls series who had DS3 as their first game knows the pain of Iudex Gundyr. Kicked my butt for more than 20 times until I beat him.
Cuphead Tutorial level is the real hard first level
tutorials are not levels
I absolutely love Ninja gaiden but that driver stage was the worst game I've played.
The clips shown in the Dragon's Lair section aren't actually from the drawbridge.
Driver def got me good back then
Gold took me a few attpts on the death Star attack, I didn't get bored though. The death Star escape bonus mission though.... Silver to this day 😅😑
no mention of Silver Surfer on the NES? this game is BRUTAL, whatever level you end up choosing first...
Getting the plat on ninja gaiden sigma plus is one of the hardest for me especially playing it on vita. Fortunately my vita survive my rage till now still working. Love my vita.
I died more than 200 times in Cuphead 😆😂
I died 200 times on one level in psylosibil which is a very hard crash bandicoot ps1 inspired game
Y’all never tried Halo 2? Try on LASO(legendary all skulls on). It took 20 years for dude to finally beat Halo 2 on LASO without dying. And yes, the very first mission is extremely hard.
Haha I used to love doing the test on driver 🤣
I Guarantee no one has ever beaten Contra without The Spreader Gun.
ROFL
I beat the first level of Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts a while back.... only to get stuck on the second level.
Dude, no Sunsetriders? That first level is comically difficult
I used to play contra with my dad and my younger brother in 2003 and 2007. We never pass the second level. We didn't even knew about the code until 2014.
I remember playing the first mission of cod bo1 and I died ALOT,I was confused of what I was supposed to do
I never made it past the first level on No. 1.. I gave up
In RE4, the chainsaw guy is the same size as all the other Ganados. I dint understand why you called him "massive" 😆
