I appreciate your coverage of the game! It has been very clear and the combination of camera angles has made it the best coverage of this game on TH-cam IMO.
Look at you now with 4k subs and getting review copies of games. Couldn’t be happier for you sir! I was backer 17 or so back when you were doing amazing gearloc breakdowns. I can’t wait for my copy of Elder Scrolls to arrive. Keep up the great work sir
Really enjoyed the video! Wonderful job of providing an introduction to all the various game components without any spoilers. As someone new to chip theory games this really helped to get a feel for what game play may be like. Would loved to see some build guides.
Fantastic video. It does a great job of wrapping up the game and putting it in perspective. Thank you for the time you put in on the game, we appreciate your slog 😁
I have consumed all the TES:BotSE that is out there or at least everything I can find. This was my favorite video. I am going to use it to introduce my brother to the game as it summarizes it so well. I would love to see more, especially the adventurer skills since there isn't much out there right now. I also just subscribed.
Great timing! Chip theory just posted a photo of the first wave of games hitting the distro hub. It shouldn’t be much longer until we’re all enjoying this awesome looking game! I backed as an Elder Scrolls fan having never played a CTG. I do feel, thanks in part to your content, that I have a descent grasp of the mechanics and concepts of a CTG, and specifically BotSE, so thank you! As far as your future content concerning this game, I guess I’d want you to be as enthusiastic as you have been. I think people will be clamouring for more content as we get our hands on and dig In. I think gameplay, combined with rules clarification and builds would be great. All in all, thanks again for your 100’s of hours of dedication to presenting all this. Job well done! Simply giddy knowing we are so close to landfall!! Cheers!
yeah I wanted to get this out right about now as others are starting to get their games. I saw the same thing on the discord today and am excited to see how everyone likes it. If you have never held a CTG game in your hand you are in for a treat!
Very well produced video and could tell you put a huge amount of work into the content! As someone who loves elder scrolls and RPG games (not a chip theory fan in particular), came here looking for that take, and had a hard time finding a summary opinion on that, just as an n of 1 feedback on the video.
I am not the person to give that take for sure. I have a surface level knowledge of Elder Scrolls. My Bethesda experience start and ends with Fallout. From an RPG perspective Elden Ring is more my forte and from what I understand about why people love Elder Scrolls is probably a better comparison since this is a battle focused game and very light on the narrative, which I do mention.
Awesome stuff man. And just in time for deliveries. I think the idea of build guides, especially if done well, is a great way to drive future traffic to you. So I don’t know how to do that in a way that’s searchable. Maybe it’s here on YT, maybe in written format somewhere. I’ve seen it for other games where something made years ago is still the standard (though with less customizable characters, so not fully sure how that translates to TES). Anyway, hopefully the time you’ve put into it will continue to reap rewards beyond the enjoyment you’ve had (and we’ve had vicariously). Well done as always!
Really great overview of the game! I'd be one that would love to see build guides so I hope there's enough other people out there wanting that to make it a thing.
Great overview! As for what I'd want coverage wise... really really tough to say. Long videos can be tough to find time for. I have to say what brought me to your channel was the really well edited and easy to follow TMB content. Great way to get a sense of a gearloc prior to playing one. Perhaps if you did a similar thing with builds here it would be a good draw? Either way I'm hear for it.
I’ve really enjoyed your coverage of the game. Just counting the days now till my copy arrives. I think a video or a couple of videos on character creation and especially race, skill, class combos needed to create typical rpg roles, eg tank, healer, mage etc would be really useful to get people started. I’ve subscribed so look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I'm so excited for my copy to arrive! Thanks for this overview. It's very helpful, and the most digestible one I've seen yet. My main concern about the game is how much work it's going to take to read and internalize the rules. Any content you could make that would help make that process easier would be much appreciated, as I expect it to be rather overwhelming to get into.
YES!! I would love to see a recommended build for true solo for someone just learning the game. There are so many options that I don’t want to get stuck in AP mode when I’m just trying to grok how the game is played. Thanks again!
True solo beginners guide sounds like a good starting place. I play a high elf warden that abuses companions in my most recent play through. Companions are the way in turn solo!. Necromancer is great as well but not beginner friendly. Basically anything that puts more units on the field in your favor. True solo has the same problem it does in TMB. No matter scaleing the difference between one attack and two attacks when facing off against 3-4 units is tough.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAY I WANTED TO SEE!! Thank you so so much for putting so much time into it, and yes i am hardcore ;) Lovely editing, lovely script and outline! It’s gonna be hard for anyone to top this video, as you put in the time and reps to give a balanced review! Thank you, and thank you for not spoiling!
18:15 This game is much more a Elder Scrolls Online experience than the original Elder Scrolls games. Combat and action required. Having a crafting system where you can MAKE a unique class specific item for your character would be a good personal quest thing you could have. The materials to craft your item could be found in chests or taken off specifc types of enemies. That would give each character a personal goal to work for other than the main quest. I like that your playthroughs do not get bogged down with trying to teach, keeps them snappy for folks who know the gameplay already.
That’s a great idea. I think the tricky part is in video games in general the time investment to acquire pinnacle weapons is large but you also still get a bunch of time with them so it’s worth it. With this being three session’s that is more difficult. But maybe you have the first two sessions to acquire the components so you have the end game to play with it. Would also love a future module that scales quests to a point that you could carryover a character built in a previous campaign. Maybe even upgrading the weapon to stages that has different powers of even skills that can be activated with tenacity.
First of all thanks to you for the coverage of this game. I think for a game this size an initial impression just isnt enough. As you said at this price point getting this to the table once just isnt the goal. Regarding items: Have you tried the burglar? That class seems to focus the most on items, so maybe with a burglar in the party you could hunt for specific items/item types. (Or i am underestimating the size of the item decks). Have you had the experience of doing an encounter and then realising you missed some special rule? Asking beause the rules overhead seems very big and that happend to me a lot when learning TMB. Agree on movement! TMB was basically just minimizing movement to roll as many dice as possible. For me replacing TMB will only be possible if the session structure feels enough "one and done" like. I mostly added Valenwood for the 3 extra skill lines. I'd highly appreciate a pure skill lines expansion as more regions are probably less important to me. Would love to see build videos to inspire runs. I discovered your channel when learning TMB and your Static video led to me diving a lot deeper into that gearloc. Would love to experience that with some classes/skills/items in whatever form. Although I theoretically got quite a few combos planned already I assume most of them will change as I actually experience gameplay.
Thanks for watching! I have not tried the burglar. The vast majority of my plays were solo or two handed. Prioritizing damage has been my main focus. Regular ding the rules I have missed and will continue to miss a ton. I mostly know this when I film and they are pointed out. So for somebody that doesn’t have their gameplays filmed you might not catch it as often as it happens. The biggest misses for me are the same in TMB which are baddie skills and timing. Session structure does feel satisfying as a one shot. Have fun with it!
Sooo… I recently took the plunge on TMB, but many people have said that upgrading your attributes is always more powerful than upgrading your skills. Do you think it’s possible to adapt the ES cooldown system to TMB to make skills more compelling?
I don't think so. The skills in TMB are balanced in a way that it would be overpowered to use them over and over. I think you might have to scale up health on baddies. They have left open the door for TMB as an ip to be used in the future. I hope they do TMB adventures that uses the Elder Scrolls system. I do hope there are specific gearlocs with specific skills if that happens. In terms of the critique on upgrading base stats over skill dice....I have never tried that because that is simply boring to me. Even if more effective I am glad to use the exotic skills that let me pull off cool combinations over just throwing combat and defense dice.
@@sapien01010 personal opinion after quite a lot of TMB … I think the critique that the attribute upgrade path is the best choice is somewhat true in the base game and largely not true in expansions and subsequent gearlocs. Especially when facing expansion baddies and tyrants.
I decided to pass on the GameFound fundraising, I have too many games that I haven't finished yet (including the Modiphius Skyrim board game which I never finished properly!). It does look good though. I need to spend the next year getting through what I have, then maybe in 2026 I can think about this, your review (on top of others) did make it look like a cool game!
This is certainly a game that needs time and if you have a backlog you are definitely better served playing what you have already bought. The good news is by then maybe there will be a few used copies out there.
Sounds like: If I want a full narrative adventure go with Midarra and aeons tresspass odyssey If you want to play a skill based dungeon crawler without the narrative cutscenes. This might be the top game to choose from. I’m not saying this game doesn’t have narrative, I’m saying this game doesn’t have full cut scenes that go on for multiple pages. This game isn’t a full fantasy novel. Like those other games are.
Cheers for the review, but I'm really starting to regret my purchase now, I'm someone who has to set up an tare down a game every time, getting maybe 2 hours to play once a week on my dinning room table, an so I'm starting to feel like this one will never get played, much the same as Primal the awakening an chronicles of drunagor I've just sold on, not having space to keep games set up I've discovered is no good for these huge lifestyle games, great video by the way mate
Well I think resell value will be good so that’s a plus. I will say mileage may vary but 2-3 hours per session once you are up and running and not looking up enemy skills each turn is reasonable. Many encounters are pretty straight forward but some can have you over thinking quite a bit so if you are AP prone that will extend the time. The good news is a session feels satisfying and complete in its own way. It is very easy to put away with the mat storage and maybe even more with the folio which I don’t have.
I appreciate your coverage of the game! It has been very clear and the combination of camera angles has made it the best coverage of this game on TH-cam IMO.

it is shot at 24 frames 4k
I suspect the camera was mounted on the desk? It consistently vibrates.

Face cam on Tri pod desk cam on ceiling. Table moves when I move it.
Might be the shutter speed of the camera set too high. 24frames should have a shutter speed of 48(if camera has that value) or 50
