  • Season of Dawn ends in a week, with Season of the Worthy taking its place on March 10th. Today's video is a recap of the season's events and my feelings on those events and the season as a whole.
    In short:
    Saint-14/Story: Enjoyed this.
Sundial: It was ok for a brief time.
    End Game: Not good.
Ritual Weapons: Python good, other two meh.
Exotics: Devil's Ruin meh, Bastion quest had some hype, but fell flat after the Corridors of Time was solved.
Charged With Light: Interesting concept, but not enough value for an average player to fully commit to.
Inotam: Better than Undying Mind, but Undying Mind set a low bar.
Empyrean Restoration: Easiest god roll farming ever.
This season did not hold my attention well because everything was handed to me. I did not need to work for anything, I was not challenged by anything, which makes all rewards feel hollow at best. When is looting in this game going to be exciting again? I am tired of grinding for god roll weapons as the main thing to do. I need something else to occupy my time with in this game.

Or Prophet Of Doom being absolutely top notch in the conversation of shotguns in general.
When your only other current up to date option for a precision frame shotgun in the Energy slot is Retold Tale and trying to track one down with a good roll is a huge pain in the ass, Prophet of Doom is 100% worth doing the raid for.

I feel like Bungie has really cornered themselves with the limited time to earn weapons we're getting with this format. On one hand I totally agree with Datto in that the loot feels very uninteresting especially when it's practically given away for free, and having to play for the loot is a lot more interesting and fun. On the other hand, it took me 80+ rolls to get the Breachlight that I wanted specifically and I NEVER would've gotten that if I had to do Sundial that many times for it, given the limited amount of time we had.
I really think we need to step away from this limited-time-to-earn model or the game is just gonna continue this way. Either people will be mad if they don't have time to earn the loot, or people will be mad the loot is too easy to get.

Level19CPU Exactly this^^^^ I’m a father and work full time. I just don’t have the time to commit to this game like I used to have. This season was a godsend for me because before SoD, after 4 infamy resets in Gambit I’d only ever gotten 2 Bygones to drop and both were garbage rolls.
There needs to be a medium between the time intensive grinds for loot with garbage rolls (eventually settling for a halfway decent roll because you’ve given up all hope of ever seeing that quick draw/opening shot mindbeders) and literally giving you unlimited chances at the press of a button for easy godrolls.
If raids offered actual unique weapons with fixed rolls again (like D1) and a 60 stat roll floor for armor they’d actually be worth running beyond the mindless farm for pinnacles/well rolled stat gear. You could even bring back the unique cosmetics and endgame upgrade materials too. In fact, ghost shells, sparrows, and ships should have never left the reward loot pools in raids in the first place.

That's when Destiny is at it's peak imo. When there is so much to do and you actually want to do all of it. That made the grind for things like Izanagi's and Recluse or whatever other pinnacle weapon so much better, because I wasn't timed on them, I worked on them when I wanted.

Maybe the reason raid loot isn’t that great anymore is that the game is now designed very much so with the solo player in mind. As such, players like myself might not be that bothered about finding teams as we have lots of solo content to play and new match made activities. Bungie’s statistics probably reflect this meaning that they put the loot in the modes people play the most so that they keep a bigger player base and it’s possible that mode isn’t raids anymore

    • @XogoWasTaken
      @XogoWasTaken 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think it's even just that raid loot isn't good - I think a big part of it is that non-raid loot is too good. Perks like rampage, kill clip, outlaw, and good combos of those seem a lot more common than they were in D1, and are a lot more powerful even after they were nerfed in Shadowkeep. In addition, everything new in D2 has been *insanely* easy to grind to the point that we're now literally being handed them in the tower.
D2 was honestly fine for raid weapon power in Y1. Just look at Midnight Coup - it was absolutely top tier, but from Y2 onwards it only stuck around because people liked how it felt. Then an even better alternative started dropping from a non-raid activity and Coup is little more than a memory. That's the problem. Midnight Coup didn't get worse - we just started getting a better option without even raiding. The problem is that in the massive list of unsustainable, overcompensating buffs that came with Forsaken pretty much every gun gained the ability to be as good as raid loot, and we're *still* suffering game longevity issues from that even after walking many of those buffs back.
In D1, a hand cannon with Outlaw and Dragonfly was absolute top tier raid loot. In D2 Y2 onwards, an almost identical HC is just another gun.

I don’t know. Dawn was lacklustre, but not all bad. I can’t really put myself into the shoes of someone who plays it for a living, but as a more-than-casual destiny player, who only has a three quarter full vault of god rolls, I found the season engaging for approximately 6 weeks. In 6 weeks I got the rituals, exotics, artifact lvl 100, pinnacle power cap, 2 high stat (void of course - lol) dawn armours with mods, the saviour title, and god rolls on the few sundial weapons I found interesting.
Now, is 6 weeks long enough? Well no, but in fairness I could have got all the same things accomplished playing only a few hours each weekend, and THAT would have stretched the entire season. Honestly, I feel rejuvenated after taking a break anyway!
I don’t know what the answer is for everyone, but I just can’t shit on it like most. Dawn’s an 8/10 for me, and I’m looking forward to season of the worthy.

It's funny when you complain about power creep being a thing but when there is literally none, what so ever you end up with hundreds of worthless items because nothing feels more powerful so there's no need to get it. If raid items actually got a substantial boost in power, you would see them as a power creep when they demand that every raid after do better and make something stronger. You really don't get a dog in this fight when you denounce any form of power creep which would fix our issue.

@@terisladwin5337 That would take static rolls to do but bungie isnt a fan of letting people grind to get weapons like that but more than 3 times a week once per character. I think that would work but, it kills exotics because that's what exotics are. The issue with them is they're either broken or subjective ie one eyed mask prenerfs and lions rampart, when you can only choose one that starts a game state issue. Legendaries with broken perks are broken when A). All the challenge comes from bumped stated ai and forced changes in game play. I made a remark about this with the changes to snipers because we fucking did this in D1 with ghorn, the guns aren't always the issue in high end pve but enemy design and how we interact with them is. 2). The perks we have now are very minimal in effect, we took shot package out because it was too good on shotguns but didn't ask why, it's best in slot because no one else showed up to compete. When a perk does so much for a gun that it shows an actual impact in gameplay and everything else is your time to ready from sprint is .05 seconds faster and is only worth a fuck when stacked a shit ton. The players engagement with a perk matters and reload time and ttk are the most effective and efficient way to show that to a player. But when we don't have perks with downsides or in bungies case it work something like shotguns do x amount per pellet in return for lower accuracy but how you're using would negate it's downside. My favorite gun is loa because it hits fucking hard but handles poorly so take that idea and translate it to a set of perks and we could make something happen, strong effects at a cost and minimal effects for no cost. I mean even weapon frames could be used to tweak it more because as it stands right now every perk they have made that is different gets nerfed to the ground because they even fucking said it they're afraid of power creep when there is none because it gets murdered before anything can answer it.

@@rpemulis To be fair, there's a lot of complex mechanics that the AI emploh. But they're so watered down that it barely matters. Grenades are incredibly obvious and not very threatening, most Taken abilities that make a difference just make you go through more trouble to kill them, etc etc. Scorn are the hardest enemy type to fight, but some of their weapons and abilities feel annoying, with no real counter. As well, they haven't been relevant for over a year (Has there even been a Fanatic master nightfall yet?).
Destiny's needed a difficulty buff for a long time. Not a grinding buff, a difficulty one. Enemies are rarely threatening after you've met their power level, with the occasional physics-based exception. And that's a big part of Destiny's problem, really. The power grind defeats what is (to me) the best part of the game, when you actually need to think about the situation at hand, rather than just pointing and clicking until you run out of enemies.

I as a day one community member, I understand the frustrations of Datto and the streamers/hardcore.
They want Raid and end game loot to actually mean something again.
If we are all really honest with ourselfs,
lots of players like to show off, super rare loot.
Basically, rubbing and flaunting stuff in the tower as a status thing.
On the other hand, we have a ton of new/free players and a ton of intermediate players like me.
What I mean by intermediate players is,
We are technically just as skilled, as the "nolife"
but don't grind daily for whatever reason.
    Even somebody like me,
I have a huge extremely active godtier clan,
And it's still kind of a pain in the ass to gather up players for a simple Pit or raid run. So I can't even imagine what it's like for a newlight player.
This isn't just bitching, here are my solutions.
The "Fomo" experiment clearly didn't work.
Also just cranking up the difficulty and bad guys, doesn't work either.
I think a nice solution would be to crank up the mystery and variety in the public stuff. Add a lot more SIMPLE mechanics into the matchmade aspects of the game.
If we did this, a lot of seasonal events wouldn't feel so quick and grindy.
    They would feel more satisfying.
Also keeping the magical surprises coming,
Weather it's a level or gun quest,
Surprises have been super important in keeping our players, positive and pumped up.

I got grossly turned off from the game when I missed out on the Vex Offensive because I was very busy doing everything else with the time I had. And I put it off because I didn't understand that the Vex Offensive was a time limited event until the week of fighting the Undying Mind. So when this season dropped, I made it only as far as selecting which guardian I wanted to play. I just kinda stared blankly for about 20 seconds and closed the game. I never knew that "fear of missing out" was even a thing until I experienced it, and if that's my motivation to play a game I was already being burnt out on, the game doesn't deserve my time. Really, my breaking point was this revelation. I did NOT buy the season pass with Shadowkeep believing it was a subscription to time limited content. Just because you get a bunch of “god rolls” and that you don’t use them doesn’t mean that others have a huge stock pile like you do or don’t use the ones they have.
Your suggestion is so frustrating and the fact that bungie listened to you and said they are power/time limiting weapons is even more frustrating. Some people spent their very limited free time to get weapons whether it was through forges or a pinnacle weapon and you are insisting that bungie pulls them out of our hands. Let people play the game the way they want to. If you want to use the new stuff destiny releases then do it but don’t tell others how they should play the game.

@@chrisn3819 I strongly disagree with everything you just said, actually, I don't just disagree I'm just going to say it you're wrong. There are plenty of interesting weapons to hunt for, vorpal weapons, rapid hit raid pulse, pinnacle/ritual weapons, new exotics, buffed archetypes of weapons or even weapons with unique perk combos. Let people decide if the hunt is fun for them or not. Don't pull a weapon out of someone's hands and tell them to go have fun finding it again. If you lost that thrill of the hunt again then go delete every weapon in your vault and then have fun, but that choice is up to you. I still get pumped looking for new weapons and I play the game a ton. If a player likes to play with the same old stuff then who is it hurting? As a new light player who joined mid season 8 (and got the pass for both 8 and 9), I'll say this:
Season 9 feels like Bungie tried a bunch of things, and some are either hit or miss, or even clear overkills:
-Season Pass rewards are... good. Again. Some rewards are a bit underwhelming (bright dust, for example...), but some are more than welcome. However, farming timelost bounties with fractaline donations made ranking up very trivial. I'm standing at 340+ as of right now. Overkill.
-Speaking of which: the Timelost bounties things was a very nice thing... Until Empyrean Donation kicked in. Then it made everything very easy. Sure, it helps in farming (I expect the community to never fall short on Legendary Shards for the next 5 seasons with that), and it can give very good loot, which, in hindsight, can help getting stuff done. I'm very happy with the rewards I got. Good Bygones, Paradox, JQK3, etc... very happy... But it became so easy that after getting what I wanted, I was just standing with nearly 100k fractaline and no way to spend them fast and easy. and it blows. Now I just dump Paradoxes down to get Fond Memories Engrams and try to get the very few Ornaments I want. Clear Overkill of loot. Easy, fast, numerous, and unoptimized, cuz apparently, we spent over 10 years total of time just DONATING the fracts. Where is the quick confirm, Bungie.
-Some new mechanics were very interesting. I grew fond of the Charged with Light mechanic as I made myself protected by the Void in many situations, making me dead less often. it helped. But I understand your reasoning of "not worth the investment when the base power does it well enough". It's a step in the right way.
-Sundial was.... okay. Yeah. Menagerie remix. Ideas were interesting, but it wasn't that different. I can't deny that Inotam was better than Undying Mind.... But that's because... well... the bar that was set was very, very, very low. A step in the right direction, at least. Again.
-Ritual weapons were.... okay, I guess? However, I'm still mad at the fact that Komodo was unfarmable unless you ran Arbalest. Because it is the only Special ammo liner fusion rifle in the game. An exotic. So if you didn't have it, you were... stuck. I wasn't, but my friend was for a while, he tried to farm without it, but after a full day of gaming in Crucible, using Heavy LFRs, he gave up when he only got 12 kills out of 125. Python was the only interesting one, Buzzard and Komodo were.... Just decent weapons for their archetypes... which are mediocre archetypes.
-I was very hyped for Corridors of Time. I sadly didn't contribute as much as others, besides giving vocal support... And all we got was a weapon that was supposed to be released in less than a week. Clearly an amazing collaborative event that... ended up very disappointing. If destiny does something that big in terms of collaboration, but got something unique out of it, something RARE that will STAY RARE for a while, or something very rewarding and secret, then we'd be good. 5 steps forwards... but 3 back. I just got Bastion early and feel guilty because I got it early thanks to the work of a few mad men that deserve their names engraved onto the City's walls.
-Exotic quests were okay. Devil was way too short, but gave some interesting interactions and lore. Bastion, well... Corridors to a Shortcut, really.
All in all: I enjoyed it a bit more than season 8. A step in the right direction overall (sorry if I make that analogy many times), but definitely things that needed fixing got the tune up needed. Now to do the same to EVERYTHING.
And so far, from the trailer and TWABs we've seen.... It is Promising. But we'll be the judges in the case of Season 10, and see if it's Worthwhile.... or Worthless.
(PS: I love your content, please keep it up, and say Hi to Raid secrets for us all if you can. ^^ )

I actually loved season 9. Every gun is strong(almost 2 or 3 exception). I got all the god rolls i want this season(which has never happened). You can ask my friends i was addicted to playing sundial, then the emperyan restoration came out and i got the rest of the god rolls i want including some i have been chasing for years(last perdition and black scorpion). I love the seasonal mod. Im currently running a build where i dont run out of fusion ammo, get charged by fusion multikills and deal more damage when charged. Worth mentioning i run 2 fusions(loaded question and 1k voices). The act of playing sundial i will admit wasnt too interesting but i love doing it for the guns. I think inotam was a fun fight(kinda wish they would bring him back for a strike). Overall when i get on destiny 2 i want god rolls to shake up my loadout(which im constantly changing) and mods for build crafting which this season nailed. I wish the activities going forward are different and non menegarie like but i love that i was able to get all the mods and weapons. Thats my thought. Honestly this might trigger some people but i don't care at this point season 9 was better than season 8 AND shadowkeep.

Well when you play a game as a job it can get stale and I think that's part of the problem. While I understand it was an easy button to get loot we didn't get that option till nearly the end of the season. I work 70hrs a week I don't get time to log on and spend literally all day to grind out one thing.... That's not fun that's more monotonous than pressing a button. I don't "need loot" to play the game and enjoy it. Alot of people who play the game enjoy it for the story lore and pvp. I respect your opinion but you have to realize that just because this is your job doesn't mean that you know what's best for the health of the game. I'd venture to say that as a content creator when loot is easy to get it makes it harder for anyone to watch your content because well unless they are a fan like me they'd have no reason to. Maybe it's time to tried something else for your channel and took a break. Nothing wrong with that 😉

But there's always been a way to get God Rolls in the Tower. House of Wolves had reforging and from Taken King forward you had Arms Day and Vendor Rolls. Wasn't Hung Jury a top tier weapon? Palindrome? Clever Dragon? I know this is your opinion but it comes from a place where you have all the materials and weapons in the world. Not everyone has a raid team at their disposal. I agree that some raid weapons are pretty mundane/lackluster, and that needs to be corrected.

My issue is with their Challenging content is it’s either raids which in my Destiny2 experience can somehow take 45 minutes or 4+ hours with no in between there or do you have to do master night Falls and those are honestly just not even fun with how difficult they are most of the time

    • @vallejomach6721
      @vallejomach6721 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Not to mention that a very, very large portion of the community simply does not or (due to a variety of circumstances) cannot do the raids (or NIghtfalls, master or otherwise) anyway. Shit! I've got a 1000+ hours logged since October 2019 and on day one got some quest that required a Leviathan completion...it's still in the director now. Yes, of course if I wanted to I could do something about it...but I don't...so that's where it stays. Point is...for Bungie to invest development time into making a raid the pay off has to be fairly significant...and whichever side of the fence you're on, raid content seems to be forgotten and not bothered with in no time at all so why would they put a focus on that kind of activity in the first place?

I have watched your videos for years and have appreciated both the content and the "pro-tips". One thing I have noticed these last few seasons of Destiny 2 is that your tone of voice about the game has changed for the worse, to the point that when I click on one of your videos, I cringe because I know it is going to be some toxic explanation about how Bungie has messed up again. Just about every video you post, you blast Bungie for doing something wrong or "how dare they do that?!!"
