I love this watch and purchased this watch for a special kind of relationship I share with this brand. My roll call number in both school and college for a year was 53. I was the 53rd student in the class. I went for this watch only recently and have been wanting to get a Tissot watch since I was in 9th grade. It was a dream purchase for me because 1853 over there, it has all my lucky numbers. I love Tissot 1853. My first Tissot watch was a Tissot Quartz Watch. Great buy. Something I will cherish for a lifetime. 53 has a special place in my life possibly because those were very eventful years in my life.
I spent months researching and laboring over different dive watches with the intent on buying Swiss automatic; I ended up getting a Seastar with the silver dial and black bezel. There is no other entry-level Swiss automatic watch as good as this one for anywhere near this price point. The Hamilton gets 100m and no open caseback or dive extension; the Mido costs more with no open caseback; etc. etc. Also, Tissot has heritage that most competitors cannot touch. I would argue that even most Swiss divers in the $1000 range aren't as good.
When Seastar was first released, a friend of mine picked up the blue /black gradiated dial on a rubber strap. He loves the watch. I must admit that the Powermatic 80 is awesome.
I purchased one in 2004. I wanted a non expensive beater watch. The Seastar is still with me and it took everything over the years. The case size can be a problem if you have a smaller wrist and don't expect too much from the original bracelet. All in all a very recommendable, affordable and tough watch.
My Tissot, not Seastar but similar, had a bracelet which would always break.broke 3 or 4 times and I picked from the floor. Until one day it broke and I didn't realise at the moment on the road, went back to that spot and was not there anymore. Overall great impression from watch quality and bad impression fr bracelet quality.
Bought the seastar with the green dial and black bezel earlier this year. Beautiful watch, nice and weighty, strap is stunning. First Swiss watch and now I'm totally hooked Now eyeing up the PRX powermatic
This review convinced me to jump on board and finally purchased my first automatic Swiss made watch as soon as the review was over. I’m new to the hobby and always happy to learn something new. Went with the rose gold and black rubber strap option. Thank you Teddy, keep up the good work.
I just purchased a Tissot Seastar 1000 36mm with an ETA F05.412 quartz movement. Yes, I know it is quartz, but it was within my budget and the blue dial and fit and finish of this watch is gorgeous. Perfect for my everyday wear. ⌚❤
I own many Tissots, and can attest to the value and quality of the brand. My first watch was a Tissot, so it has some sentimental value as a brand. Not to mention their illustrious history beginning in 1853! Nice watch, nice review. Take care Teddy.
Great review. I’ve just received the Seastar Powermatic 80 (30 bar) in green with the Milan strap. Absolutely stunning, and for the price completely unbeatable.
I own this watch with the black and blue dial with the rubber strap. Awesome watch! Holding me down until I have the funds for a seamaster. Runs at -3 seconds or so a day. ❤️❤️
Teddy, this was my first "luxury" watch purchase and it was entirely due to your recommendation. I've since gone on to buy a number of other pieces, owing in part to your reviews. Agreed that this is a very solid, well spec'd watch for enthusiasts looking to explore their first quality timepiece. Wears smaller than the dimensions would suggest, and I've found it to be rugged and reliable.
not only that, but silicium model has 25 jewels because they put the regular escapement back which is more durable. these 23 jewel powermatic 80s use synthetic escapements which are less durable. but then again tissot does swap out the whole movement when you put it in for service. it is a shame though because my favorite variation of seastar is the one with green dial and mesh bracelet. That one has yet to be updated to the silicon hairspring.
I haven’t manually wound my watch in over a year, it’s my 2nd watch and I love it, beat it up daily (I’m a garbage man) Set it down Friday and she’s running Monday . I wear my citizen on weekend. I have the first gen with the big bezel lugs. Changed to a nice blue leather strap 3 years ago and has a nice vintage look. This watch is perfect
Got one recently, and it is now my go-to watersports watch. Sailing, kayaking, swimming (you don't have to take it off) and fishing. Mine is on the silicone band and perfect for rugged outdoor use - just wash the seaweed and pike slime off with some soap and water and it looks good as new. Useable and durable ceramic bezel, handsome blue sunburst face, tough sapphire crystal, readable hands (the date is a bit small for my aging eyes) bulletproof case, and waterproof to 150 fathoms. Automatic mechanical movement with no battery to let you down when it dies.
Very practical dress sports watch, hope that Tissot brings the dial to 40 mm and use a better index numbers on the bezel and better aligned movement. The power reserve is outstanding at 80 hours. Many Thanks for the comprehensive technical review.
Just purchased my first Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 watch, and I absolutely love this watch. It came with the silicone/rubber strap, and I would really love a Stainless Steel Strap for this watch. So please, where do I get a Stainless Steel strap for my Tissot watch?
They need to add the Silicon hairspring to all the color variations of Seastar and not just blue. The green one is my favorite but they haven't updated it to silicon hairspring.
the problem with the 23 jewel powermatic 80 is that it has a synthetic escapement, whereas the silicium models return to 25 jewels because they use regular forks.
I have the black bezel version and wear it more than the Rolex gmt..the ceramic bezel is bedazzling, the crown action is soooo satisfying!it also wears great even at 43mm
Just got this model, blue bezel with darker kind of blue on the dial. My first watch and im just so happy with the purchase. Can't take my eyes off of it.
Purchased the blue black gradient dial with rubber bands when it came out. Powermatic 80 is awesome over weekends and build quality is top notch, despite falling onto ground, ticking perfectly still. So impressed with brand, just picked up Seastar 2000, what a tank of a watch and superb value. Helium valve, engraved ceramic bezel, 2000ft ISO depth rating, 80hrs power reserve, robust case with massive crown guards. Punches way above its weight in terms of functionality. Do not hesitate if you are considering a purchase. :)
I wish the seconds hand (t for tissot) didn’t look like a hammer swinging around. Love this watch otherwise. Love the features and the legible beautiful blue dual
Got a Powermatic 80 movement watch for my wife 2 yeats ago from their physical store in downtown...550€ (32mm) It's a *KILLER* watch and movement...runs at about +3 secs/day. She gets compliments from everyone and they think it's a 3k € watch with that nice polish, leather strap...case back with a black spider motif on the rotor and nice clasp.
Hey, Teddy! Awesome review as always! My dad’s been asking me to look for a watch for myself as his graduation gift to me and I’m stuck choosing between this Seastar or the Powermatic PRX. Any insight of which one we should get? 😅 If anyone reading this has insights, please share as well! I’d appreciate it!
It really depends on how you feel about larger watches. The Seastar has quite a compact lug-to-lug for a 43mm watch (49.5mm; same as a Submariner if you include the bracelet endlinks), which means it should fit on a 16cm wrist, but it will still look quite large on the wrist.
I have had a bit hard to make the decision for my first automatic diver. I already have Tissot Gentleman powermatic 80, and this watch seem to be a good choice for my second Tissot. I would like silicon spring even for the diver but I want the brighter blue look like this model has.
Hi the view of the super luminova hands and indexes when lights are off/dim is a must for a diver review. I don't dive but love diving watches for this reason but not being able to see how it glows in the dark in this video is so sad..
The lume pip on the bezel fell out. Sent it back to Tissot. They replaced the whole bezel and it came back not aligned with the 12. And, the lume pip has fallen out again. Sucks.
Hi, I love your channel and level of subject knowledge. I have learnt a stack recently. As I live in the UK is it possible to order watches from your site?
The watch seems a very good proposition in its price class. However, the clasp is a clear and catastrophic exemption. It seems like the clasp comes from some Soviet producer. That reminds me of a rumour I heard about Skoda cars, which are nowadays so good that Volkswagen as the owner of Skoda has a procedure where Skoda designers first have to send their designs to Volkswagen headquarters where VW designers make the design more ugly so that Skoda products dont jeopardise the VW market share...I wonder returning to the clasp problem if Tissot is obliged to do the same in the Swatch group so as not to jeopardise more expensive branda like Omega etc.
I've had a Seastar 1000 and a Mido GMT both sharing the Powermatic 80 movement in for warranty work with Swatch in Toronto for close to 3 months now with no indication that I'll be getting either one back anytime soon. Coincidently, both watches developed the same problem after 6 months of very light wear. Impossible to wind manually. Very disappointed in this movement and in Swatch's warranty service.
I heard that there are plastic parts in the caliber of Powermatic 80 (23 jewels) which might wear out faster than metallic caliber. Not sure if it's true.
While not being a guru, I never pick rubber strap for collection (unless if no 2nd choice, such as the SKX 009-J)., for the matter of durability. It can be cut easier than a nylon NATO.
The powermatic 80 movement is not dependable. After 6 months of very light wear, the crown froze and the watch became impossible to wind. Sent to Swatch in Toronto for repairs 3 months ago. Still waiting ......

Couldn't agree more. I got the blue-black gradient in the summer and like it so much, I got the black dial over Xmas. Love putting them on a NATO.
I guess u forgot about glycine and squale
What about Certina DS Action?
What about the Christopher Ward? Seems better in every aspect, plus you can get it down to 38mm. Not saying the tissot is bad, it looks beautiful
I paid 800 dollars for My 38mm Certina DS Action Diver. Perfect dimensions and ISO Certified. For me, a way better deal for only 75 dollars more.
When Seastar was first released, a friend of mine picked up the blue /black gradiated dial on a rubber strap. He loves the watch. I must admit that the Powermatic 80 is awesome.

The seastar 1000 powermatic 80
Or the PRX Automatic.
Both are Beautiful watches inmho
Tissot seastar or hamilton scuba ? Which is better option for the money ?
Definitely the Seastar. For a couple hundred more you get triple the water resistance (Scuba is only 100m WR) and a ceramic bezel.
Hi Teddy, great watch and video! Do you have plans to carry Longines watches in the future?
Would love to see Longines hydroconquest
Definitely would love to do so. Huge fan of the brand. We will see!
hi... Why there's some dial written "30bar (300m 1000ft)" under the powermatic 80... Some written "silicum"... Hope u can explain it... Tq...
Teddy, you should do a review of certina divers!
I have that same model and it is my daily beater. No complaints at all. Such a good overall watch for the price.
Wish they would do another model in a slightly smaller size, say 40mm with a shorter lug to lug
The shade of blue is gorgeous, this or the Squale though?

Tissot or Longines?

Wow, that's a beautiful watch.
Swatch owns Omega along with Longiness, and Breguet. People hear "swatch" owns Tissot, and they think that their just swatch watches.
Ughhhhhh why 21mm lug width :(
So when you said entry level it wasn't a tease as far as the movement goes. So basically it's a 350 dollar watch with deep dive capability.
why do you pronounce "tissou"
Do you deliver world wide?
I mean, does your shop deliver world wide?
It depends on the brand as many brands are very territorial with shipping as an AD. That said we are working on global distribution for all brands.
