  • Richard Morgan of Electric Classic Cars, last seen on Fully Charged when we test drove the lovely red VW Beetle electric conversion, has surpassed himself.
    This is an amazing machine, slightly faster than the original 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa and beautifully converted. With a 54kWh battery from a Tesla Roadster and two motors end-on-end, it's 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time has been improved by close to 1 second so "it's certainly got a little bit of spirit!".
    00:00 Introduction and car ‘walkaround’ with Richard.
    04:06 Battery comparison.
    05:44 Robert’s first ride in a Porsche! Power assisted steering, transmission etc.
    07:59 Two modes: Eco & Power and range.
    08:59 Robert drives the ‘911E’.
    11:16 Testing the acceleration!
    12:20 Scenic shots & outro

      From a guy who's had many v-8 engines, I like the way electric vehicles sound.
      Noise is literally just wasted energy.
      I like to look at antiques.
      However, 21st century tech is the way to go.

      @@mulehedeogracious7419 E-cars will NOT save the world, lol. Mining the chemicals for their batteries and manufacturing E-cars is CRAZY harmful to the environment, they got shorter life-expectancies on road and are a lot hard, more expensive and environmentally damaging to recycle. Calculate ever car's entire carbon footprint from beginning to end, old 4x4s are better for our planet than E-cars. Easier to manufacture, longer working lives and much easier to recycle. If ONLY people bothered to properly inform themselves................. what will save the world is reducing the human population by four fifths. Everyday less people are dying and more are being born, THAT'S the real, inconvenient truth.

    • @Iguana93
      @Iguana93 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Colin Gregson That is actually subject to opinion, you can't state it as a fact. I'm a designer and the design carries the soul for me just as much as the engine. It's true that revving an engine as you accelerate adds to the experience and I'm not saying I don't enjoy it, but to say the car is nothing without it is wrong. It's simply different and a lot of people like that. The electric sound when accelerating is subtler, but it gives a kick too. I'm not sure how they soundproof the cabin. I would perhaps add some sound channels to actually amplify it and maybe add some thrumming note. :)

    • @Iguana93
      @Iguana93 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Colin Gregson Oh, so you believe combustion cars will still be a thing 20 years down the road? ICE engine has nowhere to evolve significantly, definitely not towords lower emissions, as evidenced by recent debacles. Yes, batteries are not ecological yet, electricity production isn't either. But they have unimaginable potential to evolve. Combustion engine is great, but it's efficiency is dismal and energy supply for it is fixed. With electrics we can theoretically get up to 80 percent overall efficiency and the energy can come from any number of generating sources. Including clean thermonuclear energy, if they ever get that one working. Oil is better used for other purposes of which there are literally thousands. And even if you burned it in an electric generator, it would be better than burning it in a car, because the heat which is an unwanted byproduct in a car engine, can be used for household heating. I understand you simply like the sound of a petrol car. But accept that in the future, you will probably drive an electric daily and use a veteran petrol car for joyriding. Don't look at electric cars as something that will always be as it is now. They're at the beginning of their modern evolotion.

    I love old cars and I love my environment.
    And before someone starts to argue:
    - common e-cars run climate-neutral after around 30.000km, petrol cars never.
    - Rare metals used for engine and batteries are used for modern petrol engines too.
    - Electricity used for a e-car can be
    renewable energy (solar, wind or thermal), petrol needs to be drilled (or even worse fracked) from earth, transported by oil tankers and refined in factories AND still burns dirty.
    That's where E-Conversions come in handy. It's Recycling+Style+Environmental. AND I LOVE IT!

    And now lets see if Porsche can build one themselves... :-)

      they will probably never build 911 electric because you will get a lot o angry people about destroying a legend

    • @koolyman
      @koolyman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shadiandrew it'd be called the 912

      I've often thought a good name for a Porsche EV would be the 230, except you'd have to market it as the 220 or 240 in some countries, and they'd have to make a special version for the US market called the 120

    Another great video! Tell me, what's the point of an electric car with gears? That's not something I've heard of before.

    • @Wolfenion
      @Wolfenion 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You have more control over your efficient driving as you are better gearing the motor for the given situation instead of having a single gear fits all.

    • @4431705
      @4431705 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It's just simpler to mate the electric motor to the gearbox than take out the gearbox and find a way to graft the motor to the diff, hoping the gear ratio matches.

    • @DutchUnbox
      @DutchUnbox 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't, let's say, Tesla's have CVT or something though? It's truly just one ratio those things have?!

    • @Samual_Jones
      @Samual_Jones 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just much simpler. Tesla's gear down to like 9.75 to 1 I believe. With the tolerances needed in gearing that much torque it's just not attainable easily without just sticking with the manual drive.

    • @Player1original
      @Player1original 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's simpler...besides I would only consider driving one with a manual transmission. I don't care about speed, just engagement
