    thanks for video and the ktm 1290 super duke repair manual instructs that, when installing caliper bolts, apply medium threadlocker, like loctite 243 to the bolts.

      Thank You.
      Yes any medium threadlock will hold them. Think i used 2400, it seems to work.

    A great video 👍
    Might be worth mentioning though not to anchor on the brakes for a few miles, try and gently bed them in ( or at least that’s what I was told )

      Thanks. Yes I hope common sense prevails. I also forgot to add that rims can be protected by using masking tape if people are worried. I’ve known shops to chip rims when removing callipers.

      Panzer Punisher Thanks. Hi, there are so many available. I Think it was a generic motorcycle cleaner/de greaser, poured In an old spray bottle. Nothing fancy.

    Sporty, I just replaced tires so while I had the wheels and brakes unmounted I bought EBC HH Pads. I think I'll wait until winter to do a proper cleaning and brake pad replacement. Aren't you supposed to lubricate with brake grease the contact points between the pads and calipers? Grease between the pads and pistons to avoid brake noise? This neophyte needs to know.

    • @KevKam
      @KevKam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - It's not something i've ever done on any of my bikes but I have hear/read of copper grease being used carefully on moving parts. My CB1000 R had thin "shims" to stop noise, once I forgot to put them back. I could hear a faint rattle when breaking hard, so I know shims prevent rattle (if replaced) but never had any problem not using grease with any other bike. Personally I'm not keen on grease anywhere near my brakes, it collects dust, dirt and burns when hot.. Btw - Had to google "neophyte " so thanks, learnt a new word this morning 😁

    from reading the owners manual it says to fully apply the front brake while tightening the cap. bolts.

    • @KevKam
      @KevKam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a manual!! 😬
      Another good point ta 👍 I can see how it would help ensure the pads and calipers are square against the disc.

    My 07 SD 990 appears to have 4 separate pads for each side, the one on the right is crudded right up. I was wondering if I could just disassemble the brake itself using the two or three bolts that hold it together to clean it out thoroughly.

    • @KevKam
      @KevKam  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just looked at pix of the 990, I see what you mean. Have a go at one side. The principle does look the same 👍

      Well spotted. I buy cricket bat handle rubber from ebay. It wears out roughly every 1-2 years depending on how excited I get in the mountain twisties. Does come in different styles and colours. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262128968621?hash=item3d081aa3ad:g:RyYAAOSw1ZBbtNSJ

    Did you have problem with brake sounds when pushing the bike or in slow speeds?

    • @KevKam
      @KevKam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. No weird brake sounds on this bike yet. I just like to give the callipers etc a good clean once in a while when the pads get changed. 👍🏻

    Hi what product do you use to clean the calipers they are like new thank you

    • @KevKam
      @KevKam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, they do come up nice. This time I used ''Muc-off Motorcycle cleaner'', but washing up liquid works just as well and these days is a LOT cheaper. Using a soft brush works very well to get the grime off.
