      Thank you so much, rookie was the main person who inspired me back in February to start. Him, PGT, MycoGeeky, Dave, and my mentor really helped me along the way, so I decided to share my knowledge as my knowledge is really a conglomerate of what I’ve learned so far. Can’t wait to get into serial dilution and crossing mono’s so that we can have crosses on the channel!

      @@Sporangutan i love it same rookie was the first person i came across and i have my tent with looking exactly how his was my all in one bag i just did a break and shake back on the 12th and it is already almost ready to fruit and i got like 2 shelves ready with uncle bens rice a few are fully colonized for sure. i just been nervous to spawn to bulk so i been looking for new people to watch and glad i found you i have the same shoe boxes and i was wondering about the casing layer which you showed here and you look quite successful but you said but didnt answer about the 3 test you did with the casing and without but it dried out but you rehydrated them they all did fruit so in your opinion did the casing layer make a difference?. if i can ask do you just make sure there is a clean spread layer of colonized grain down then the 2 inch of sub not really worried about ratios just making sure its a even layer right. cause im not sure how many bags of uncle bens to use im guessing 3-4 lol but anyway thanks for the reply sorry for the rant i just get so excited when i thnk of mycology

      @@taz2k1 usually when a bin contams, it is the grain from what I’ve experienced I know someone who fruits with unpasteurized sub I’m pretty sure. In my opinion im going to pseudo case/ case in the future as it provides a little better microclimate in my opinion. It also seemed a little easier to “revive” the cake as the sub on top even though it was colonized would absorb the water better as I misted.

    To make cutting the liner easier, you could cut down to your desired level on each corner and then cut the sides individually. That way you’re not cutting around corners

    Yous a scalpel for the liner dude. It works perfect.

    • @Sporangutan
      @Sporangutan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried, but I don’t have a scalpel so I use a razor, wasn’t as sharp sadly:/ I will have one soon so I can though! Thank you!

      Even easier to mix the substrate and grain inside the bag, lay the bag flat in the tub and then cut the bag.

    What exactly is the lining for if the corners give higher risk of contamination? I grow Shiitake in a shoe box. I don't use any lining. When it is fully colonized, the substrate shrinks and becomes a solid block. I then take the entire block out of the shoe box and put in another bigger container (aka my low tek fruiting chamber). I can lay multiple shitake block vertically.

    Hey man appreciate the content. I do have a question. With your ratio for substrate how many shoeboxes can you make with out having left over substrate? Trying out the shoebox tek for the first time. And I wanna reduce my waste as I progress in my journey and learn new ways.

    How much grains can colonize how much of substrate?

  • @darladawn1111

    I have a question about breaking up popcorn once it's 30% colonized. I did that about a week ago and it looks a little different as it recovers. Initially it had a lot of nice rhizmorphic growth. Now it doesn't seem to be as think and looks more "powdery", for lack of a better word. No longer seeing rhiz. I'm still not noticing any contams, however. Does this sound normal? What should it look like, or should it start growing back the same as it started off?

    • @Sporangutan
      @Sporangutan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually don’t see too much rhizo growth after a break and shake, more just the covering of the grains when Colonized if that makes sense. In my experience, powdery usually means contamination as slight fuzzy would be tomentose growth and too fuzzy would also be contamination. When it fully Colonizes all white, before spawning to bulk give it a quick sniff and see if it smells sour. If it smells off probably toss it but if it smells super earthy then you’re good to go!😁
