For anyone who saw this video, it appears he doesn’t have anything elevating the jars above the water when he pressure sterilizes. Although this may not be necessary, it opens the door for more contam when you don’t do it. The water in the bottom of the pressure cooker doesn’t get as hot as the steam, and it can leave grains at the bottom of the jar unsterilized. I’m using this video to prep some grains now, just figured I could give my input from what I’ve learned as well! Mush love

    Thanks for this video 👊🏼
I took my popcorn out of the PC this morning and it looked like this.
I thought maybe I screwed up and the popcorn has too much moisture. But after seeing this, I think mine should be good. I will wait a day or two to let the kernels soak up a bit of it.
No pools, you can just see some moisture between the kernels and the side of the jar.
    Thank you!

My pressure cooker was a hand me down from my grandmother. It’s gotta be one of the first presto pressure cookers they made. I can’t find a new seal for it. The closet one I found was a little too big and didn’t work. I put the old seal in silicone wd40 and vacuum sealed it as a final attempt to get it to work again but I thought I had to get a new one. It worked though and I get to put off getting a new one for a while longer

If I have the plastic lids can those go thru the pressure cooker or do I need to use the metal ring topped with foil for the PC portion, then replace with plastic? I’m seeing comments saying don’t modify your lids and I would rather not but unsure if the plastic lids that are made for shrooms can survive the PC process.

I have tried many different plastic lids so far and none have been damaged by pressure cooking.

Love the easier method than seeds. I’ve had great results from watching your video. But the last jars I did jar to jar transfer I had contamination because the corns started turning green.
Interesting though, the jars are still turning white and look nice and white like cotton. Not going to use them but want to see if they pin in the jars.
Why is the mycelium not turning green like the corn?
Overall it has worked great and getting nice flushes

No presoak? So many varients to this process, some say bloom the endospores first then pc. Some say rinse then pc. Id like a side by side review on the different processes

Human consumption popcorn is usually a lot cleaner than animal feed corn.
Less endospores to germ off with a soak so you can get away without it.
I still soak popcorn if I have time but if im busy I skip it without any major issues.
      Keep spawning on bud 👍

Popcorn doesn't need the 24 hour soak because it's food grade...its already been through a type of decontam...corn from the feed store needs a 24hr soak.

I soak in distilled water and gypsum for 24 hours then slow cook for 45 minutes the next day. Strain for about a hour then pressure cook for 1 hour @15 psi. I put 3 tablespoons of vermiculite on the bottom of each quarter jar before I pressure cook.

    • @griffeycuprynski2995
      @griffeycuprynski2995 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It’s to get a little added pressure. He taped a quarter to the weight so he could get the pressure a little higher. I personally don’t do this because I don’t want to fidget with it. You don’t need to and if you do be sure to follow all the other safety protocols while using the cooker. Check the valve to make sure it’s clear, make sure the release valve moves up and down without resistance, and make sure your O-ring is good still. Also make sure not to warp your cooker by putting adequate water for the time and centering the heat source on the bottom

think 130 min sounds too long, think they say 30 min is enough time in an instapot, not certain to hydrate kernels in pressure cooker, saw somewhere it needs 40 or 50 minutes...

you can dry corn on a sterilized towel. also...Put the foil Under the lid when closing the jars. you are not looking for a seal of the lid like in canning, so that would reduce the amount of moisture into the jars. you can't secure foil adequately by squeezing it around the closed jar.
great information. thank you. turn down the music on your work.

@@ThisReckless it is to trick the endospores into escaping the popcorn in order to avoid drowning, then once they have escaped for air, you kill them with pressure cooking . Keeps contamination rates down
