Turnigy 9X Configuration for Aux Channel Gimbal and Servo Control

  • I've received several questions about configuring the Turnigy 9x control knob for controlling a gimbal. Although my X550 camera gimbal crashed and burned I decided to zip-tie an LED light to my servo and demonstrate how to set this up. This tutorial shows using the Turnigy 9X receiver/transmitter and channel 7 with the Pitch Trim knob.

    It's the best TX for the money. The flysky setups are great from what I hear. The range is pretty ridiculous. Thanks for the feedback on my vids. I'm glad they're helping and it's much appreciated.

    Dennis I still have my fingers crossed that some day you will switch to the 9XR TX my friend. Its funny because anytime I struggle to figure out how to program something on my 9XR your 9X vids are the most helpful. Although the 9XR has been out a couple of years now it seems that no one on youtube has reached a really in depth intimate level with it yet. Your 9X vids always gets me close enough that I can fumble the rest of the way on my own. Thanks for the great vids man. :)

    Hi Dennis - excellent and clear explanation. Can you help please? Can any or all brands of servo work with the Turnigy 9x 8-channel receiver. that comes with the 9x transmitter or are the servos specific to Turnigy gear? Many thanks for any reply.

    Hi Dennis,
    I have just got the same setup as you (3DR, APM 2.5+, Turnigy 9x) and am in the process of setting it up. Previously I had an iFly4 Quad and for that I had the Turnigy transmitter setup for acro (Plane) mode as that was recommended. I see that you have your transmitter setup in Heli mode and just wondered if it mattered which mode the transmitter is in, in relation to the 3DR.
    I will me keeping an eye on your videos, very informative, keep up the good work :)
    S.

    Thanks for all your great vids.

    Hey there. Thanks for the comment. Great question and to be honest I've never flown an airplane with my Turnigy 9x so I'm not sure. I know it works perfectly in heli mode for all of my quads. One thing to keep in mind is that I'm using the standard firmware so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Give it a try in heli mode and let me know if you need any help with the setup. Good luck!

      Dennis Baldwin Dude I am still frustrated as ever and it even got so bad that I just quit for a couple of months because I was fighting a losing battle with power and charging issues. Well I have all that crap worked out now and guess what? Now outta the blue my NAZA M v2 can no longer “atti” or “altitude hold”. I basically copied “TheFlyingRookies” Heavy-build plans using RCtimer 650kv motors, RCtimer 40A Simonk esc's with 12”3.8 carbon fiber props and my quad has taken on a whole new set of problems.... I almost had a "Fly-away" today but after I “Gently DROPPED” the quad from about 50 feet lol I did a manual compass-calibration it flew a lot better or at least controllable. Still not flying like you guys tho! :(

    Do you know how you might solve the pitch trim knob controlling gimbal acceleration vs position? For example, moving the knob to + means my gimbal will move upwards at max speed, and I need to move my knob to the 0 position to stop its motion. Pretty annoying and I’d rather have the knob control position. Do you know if this might be a gimbal issue, or something I can fix on the Tx side?

    I always watch your video tutorial and it was very helpful for beginners like me, I'd would to ask if the servo can limit its rotating motion in a certain degree using incresing or decreasing percentage on turnigy, I never tried it because I have no transmitter yet I hope you will answer me. Thank you!

      littleboy 1234 Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do but I would definitely check out the curves menu. It sounds like that may be able to help you out. Good luck and keep us posted.

      now my transmitter was arrived, my problem is I follow your settings in turnigy 9x but I don't know the connections from the receiver to apm and already power up the output on the output rails using I arduino because i have no bec and my servo is not working. Where can I put the signal pin to apm port? And there is calibration needed for mission planner? Thanks

    • @littleboy-bq3sl
      @littleboy-bq3sl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      littleboy 1234 I figure out that the channel 7 output is disabled by mission planner that is why i can't receive pwm signal you must go to initial setting >>> optional >>> gimbal then for example in roll you must select input RC7 as well as RC7 in roll then it will work. :)

    • @littleboy-bq3sl
      @littleboy-bq3sl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      littleboy 1234 The new problem was my servo does not turn to full 160 degrees it only rotates 90 degree.Even though I bypass apm output ch 7 by getting ch7 reciver pwm signal directly connected to the servo the same problem. But using arduino it works at full 160 degrees. What I am going to do? Do I need to full the e-point to 120 on both using turnigy 9x?

    Hi Dennis, I have follow your 6 way switch setting and happily using it. Can I please have a request? Would you be so kind to figure out a way to control the gimbal's Tilt & Roll too + the 6 way switch? Currently, I can only move my roll or tilt using CH7 because my channel 8 is hooked up on 3 way video switcher and using the HOV-THR to switch from video channel 1 to 3. It would be nice to control both roll and tilt using PIT.TRIM and HOV.PIT. Thanks!

      Jayson, I know we could pull this off with the FrSky Taranis or possibly even custom firmware (er9x or OpenTX) on your T9X. Just not sure you'll be able to do it with the stock firmware. But let me think on it some more. Thanks for asking.

  • @dennisbaldwin

    Unfortunately I have no good technical answer other than the digital servos I've used, and ones that I've seen others use, make that annoying buzzing sound.

    I want to ask, if it is possible to do mix with "throttle hold" and "ele d/r" switches on the top left side of transmitter (I have flysky th9x) to control pitch motor of brushless gimbal. I want that if I switch on "throttle hold" the gimbal pitch turn to 45 degrees. And if I switch "ele d/r" the pitch motor turn to 90 degrees (look down). Hope you understand me :) Sorry for my engish!

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** That's a great question. I'm not sure if that's possible with the stock firmware. It may be with er9x or OpenTX. Unfortunately I no longer have my Turnigy 9X so I won't be able to help you out. I know something like this is possible with the Taranis, which runs the OpenTX firmware.

      Dennis Baldwin duh again, figured out how to calibrate to neutralize the roll issue. Now gotta work on gains, seems to drift a bit and not come back horizontal. Just running stock settings, will have to view what some others have used or figure it out myself.

    Hi I'm having problems setting up my turnigy RF 9x V2 with my ardupolit 2.6 mega flight controller. I have got to the part where I need to configure the receiver but it doesn't seem to register the pitch at the stage where I need to move all the sticks to their full extremity's the pitch bar doesn't move so it won't do the last two steps in receiver set up.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Self cocking home made crossbow I would check that you have the channel wired properly. Sometimes it's easy to flip the servo lead in the wrong direction. Other thing I would check is your T9X monitor screen. It will show you the stick value when you move it. Make sure your pitch is actually behaving as you expect.
