    That dance break by your bad self is KILLER! Fantastic makes! Kudos to you for the hand sewn invisible zip! I like the easy going vibe of your videos.

      Thanks Rumbi! I am, in general, an easy going person (I like to think so anyway :)

    The Burda dress looks so much better on you, than in the magazine. Your fabric choice is also much better.

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maria Karancsi Thanks Maria! The pictures in the magazine definitely don't fully showcase this pattern. The stripey top magazine picture does a better job. I think the fabric they used for the magazine just didn't work for it. That's one of the reasons I use line drawings to decide if I really like something. They show the bones of the style.

    The long dress design is very cool. Yes, there are times and fabrics where hand sewing the zipper is the only option. Lovely Jon and I love the fabric choice. Love those shorts!

      Thanks Carole! There are some things that a machine just cant do and hand sewing is awesome in those instances.

I feel like I am getting to know you from our interaction in the comments section so much that when I am editing I now think " I wonder which one Dana will like?" I think if I had to pick my favorite it is the shorts. But truthfully I loved them all. I remember when you showed the lemons fabric in your haul - love what you did cause I was worried about that one.
    Keep them coming girl!

    Ms. Willing, surely your machine is on fire! You have not worn a machine out yet? This is just mid-July and you have already made a department-store load of fine apparel. You're right, the one-shoulder dress is in a rather darkish type fabric for you (you like COLOR and brightness), but it came out well, and you seem to have mastered this fit issue. It is the fit that matters, especially when you go through the effort of making a garment. Carry on girl! Gloria.

    I love this format, Hila, especially your bits of happy dance that show the garment in motion. I also love when you show the inside of the garment so we can see the construction.
    I would love to know how you prepared your wax print; I've been hesitant to try it for fear of ruining the fabric (or the washing machine). all the best, Bonnie

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bonnie and thanks for the lovely compliment. Wax print fabric is very sturdy and it would take a lot to ruin it. I just pop mine in the machine and wash at 30 degress as normal then hang out to dry. Iron on very hot setting because its 100% cotton nad boom! Ready to cut out and sew. Hope that helps and do let me know how you get on. Hila. x

    Stunningly gorgeous makes, Hila! Difficult to select a favourite because I love all of them. You definitely deserve the Wonder Woman medal for hand sewing an invisible zip in the fabulous BurdaStyle dress. Whenever I see BurdaStyle, I think HilaStyle..:) Like the new additions to your videos. Happy sewing & dancing xxx

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw thanks Laura! Best. Compliment. Ever.!!! Man sewing that zip was a real mental challenge - luckily I had reached a point where the beauty of the dress was evident otherwise it might have found its way to the UFO box :-). I like HilaStyle - has a nice ring to it. x

I was inspired by you and brought a Burda magazine at London City airport when we were flying out and then got a Knipmode at Amsterdam airport it is all in Dutch but hey a pattern is a pattern and if I get stuck there is always my niece in laws mum or Google lol

      Yay for trying BurdaStyle! Don't be put off by the pattern sheets - just pour a big glass of wine (if you partake) and set your timer for 30 mins and you will be surprised at how far you will get :-). Let me know how you get on with it!. I have a years worth of Knipmode that I have yet to sew with -_-. Hila. x

    Fabulous makes! Love the one shoulder dress and the skirt - and looking forward to seeing more of your self drafted patterns. The pockets on those shorts is the same construction as the shorts and trousers I'm making for hubby from an old Burda style magazine. It's the first time I've seen this construction and it looked very weird when I was cutting out...until the light bulb moment! That pinafore is stunning - love the sunshine!! The alternative to Lekala looks interesting - I bought an old Russian Burda by mistake and haven't been brave enough to try a pattern from it yet haha. I haven't tried their patterns yet though I keep meaning too. Too many things on my wish list and not enough time haha!

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kathie! I totally relate to the time issue - I wish there was more time too! Especially since my sewing list keeps getting longer and there are patterns I want to make again! The pocket construction is brilliant - I can fill my pockets with things and they don't gape or droop because the weight is supported across the front center front seam. Its also a great tummy support too. I cant get over how practical the design is and how it works well. ROFL about the Russian Burda because I did something similar and accidently bought a vintage German Burda (late night eBay browsing is never a good idea!). People think the patterns sheets are scary now in Burda but the pattern sheets from the 1972 one straight up freaked me out! They are so densely lined, I cant make heads or tails of it. Maybe one day when I am thrill sewing and seeking a big challenge, I might consider it. FOr now I just hang on it as a "pet Burda" magazine. :-)

    Hi... I fell in love with all of the dresses you showed here, I wish I could do the same as you! Is there a blog post where you show the basics to buy and how to start for begginers? I dont even know know to sew, but I really would appreciate a little heads up to where to start... Thank youuuuuu

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Na Na! Thanks for the question. I don't have a blog post for beginners but if you are completely new to sewing then I'd say its a good idea to start with the easier patterns. Do you have a sewing machine already? If you do then I could recommend some newbie friendly patterns. If you don't have a sewing machine yet then I would recommend finding a sewing class where they have sewing machines so you can get a feel of the machines before setting out to purchase one.
      For a beginner pattern that is also very stylish and wearable I'd say try the Coco Dress/Top by Tilly and the Buttons - it depends on your style and what sort of clothes you want to make but this is a good beginner one. The pattern has a sewalong on its website.
      You can see my review of it here th-cam.com/video/IewMkmHeo6g/w-d-xo.html . Don't worry too much about making the perfect thing - nothing is perfect and if you see the insides of my makes you can see wonky seams etc. You are only starting out so you will make mistakes and that's good since that means you are learning. I was where you are at when I started. WIth each project you get a little bit better so don't be too hard on yourself. I talk a bit about the mindset you need to have for sewing in My Sewing Journey video here which you might find helpful th-cam.com/video/5_QQru8LhQM/w-d-xo.html Let me know if you have any sewing gear . Hope this helps. Hilaxx

    • @Nanapoo
      @Nanapoo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI!! Thank very much for your lovely answer. The Coco dress/top looks very cute and definitely my style. I am watching your review of it right now. My mom has an old sewing machine that I think still works... I used to play with it when I was a child, but I never really learned how to actually sew (i only made small dresses for my dolls, that weren´t very pretty at all, haha)... I will try to find a sewing class near me, there is a community learning place where I live, maybe that´s a good start. Thank you very much for your videos and amazing ideas, I have been subscribed for a while but only I feel adventurous enough to try this out for myself. I think you are amazing! One day I hope I can make clothes like you!

    Parking at the Shuttle isn’t easy, there is a tiny parking space down the side - I usually park across the road down a side street

    • @SaturdayNightStitch
      @SaturdayNightStitch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes parking there is a nightmare. I once got there early enough that I could park on the little side street right next to the shop but getting out took me about 15 minutes! Now I always go park at the pub up the street and walk the 5mins to the shop. Much less stressfull especialyy when I have the kids with me.

Let me know how you get on with Burda :) The labels are from the Dutch Label Shop and I did a review of them here th-cam.com/video/xsDBDZz3Nsc/w-d-xo.html and here is the link to the website www.dutchlabelshop.com/. I highly reccommend them - they maintain the same look even after pleanty of washing. Hope that helps. x

      Jodie Roundtree Thanks Jodie! Oddly enough I am more excited about wearing the dress in winter with a roll neck, tights and boots😂. Maybe it's the darker colour compared to the other items. X
