      I’ve never ever been good at these things at all, I grew up in a family that brought vehicles in to have things fixed/done. You just gotta try and take your time. I started to learn how to do things not to long ago and I’ve had a great time learning. Ik if I was able to learn anyone can do just go for it my man!

    I waited 18 years to install a Cobb double adjustable short throw shifter on my Bugeye WRX and it has been one of my favorite (of many) mods. I only waited 2 years to install the Billetworkz shifter on my BRZ. I was able to do it from inside the car but tore the crap out of the big rubber boot using pick tools. I will crawl under the car to try to get the boot positioned correctly. I was unable to reuse the snap ring that secures the bottom of the shifter to the linkage as it was stretched too much. Recommend having some spare snap rings on hand when you go to do this install.

    Great Video! All of them actually. But it makes no sense to go underneath the car. Its actually easier to do the pin and snap ring from inside the car. Pull the shifter up. You'll see that the pin and snap ring are almost above the transmission tunnel. FYI: I used straight nose snap ring pliers.

    It seems weird but I can't find that exact type of multi-tip tool that you're using there. I searched and all I can find is these little stubby units. I can see what brand it is and everything. I just can't find one like it, in that brand or any other. Am I missing something here?

    How is it that there’s no gap after installing the shift knob? I have a gap with/without the jam nut. Maybe because I’m using the stock shifter?

    Will that shift knob fit on the stock shifter? I know many knobs that fit the old cars do not fit on the the 2022 because the reverse lockout is much wider and does not fit.

    What part of the shifter makes it more notchy? I'd guess the shorter throw is due to a change in geometry/length of the shifter but not sure what would affect the notchy feeling.

    • @gabrielnecula8305
      @gabrielnecula8305 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The notchiness comes from inside the gearbox, usually from the synchro rings engagement. By using a short shifter, more stress is put on the synchros since they have less time to synchronize (brake) gears, and so the notchiness is exacerbated.

    • @KevinVo
      @KevinVo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Essentially what Gabriel said, it's not so much because of the shifter in this case, it's more due to the fact that since the throws are shorter you're feeling a bit more of the "action" in the gearbox whereas with the stock shifter it dissipates throughout the longer throw.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinVo...do you think a change in trans fluid would help reduce the notchy-ness? Adding mass (weighted knob) will absorb some of the vibrations, but that comes with its own set of issues/downsides.

    • @KevinVo
      @KevinVo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@K03sport I don't believe so. A weighted shift knob would make the biggest difference.

    I am not enthusiastic about the install of this one…snap rings are the bane of my existence and that there is one underneath the vehicle…nope.

    • @dewet2wet
      @dewet2wet ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just did the install earlier today - I was able to do everything from inside the vehicle. It was actually pretty easy.
      I have medium hands (I wear M sized Mechanix gloves) and it wasn't a struggle whatsoever.
      Just make sure you got your 90 degree snap ring pliers.
      Go slow. Be deliberate.
      I walked the linkage boot up until it cleared the snap ring + linkage. Sorta stuffed it out of the way.
      Carefully, with one hand holding the snapring pliers and the other hand holding a finger against the snapring, it just came right off. No problem.
      The reinstall with the Billetworkz was even easier than removing the factory one.
      You should be putting some white lithium grease everywhere. Some residual grease in naturally going to get on the boot.
      In addition, the finish of the billetworkz is much smoother than the stock unit, so it's much easier to slide the boot over.
      Took me maybe 30 minutes, all from inside the car. If you drop the snap ring, it'll just drop on the ground underneath. Make sure you have your magnetic grab tool handy.
