    I have a funny relationship with this song, I had to write a paper for a college class about how cultures interpret art in different ways. I decide to write about how the different versions of the songs show the different perspectives on Gustavus Adolphus. To make a long story short, I listened to the Swedish version so many times that I had the lyrics memorized. Fast forward a whole pandemic, Sabaton was playing a last-minute show in Denver where the audience picked the songs. To troll the crowd, they started singing the Swedish Version...
    That's when I knew my time had come, I was the only person in my section who knew the lyrics.

    This pandemic needs to be over already. I need my live shows back. Sabaton put on such an insane level of show. I cannot imagine how exhausted the band is by the end of a single stop, let alone the end of a tour. This triple reaction was so much fun, and I agree. Par's bass tone is just fantastic. So are all the instruments tbh. They know *exactly* where the tone needs to be.

      I actually found that out after I uploaded the video, which is awesome. Like I said in the pop-up, a lot of the time the people in costumes like that are part of the crew. Rob Zombie is super notorious for that as well. I think it's more surprising to me that it IS Joakim in the outfit. Haha

    Apocalyptica joined in re-recording Sabaton's "Angels Calling" off of their second album Attero Dominatus. They made a MV from the session and it was released as a single. Then Apocalyptica opened for Sabaton on the second leg of the Great Tour, and came on stage for Angels Calling and several songs after.

  • @joelblom1388
    @joelblom1388 3 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    Great one....or is that great three? ;)
    A few inputs:
    1. There really is a differance between the English version and the Swedish. It is not quite as big a difference as A life time of war/En livstid i krig, but the entire album is differnt enough lyrics wise to almost feel like 2 totalt different albums..as a Swede that is.
    2. In the MV you didn´t miss the fist bumps with Amaranthe, right? ;)
    3. Regarding the number of trucks and busses: You can most problobly divide it by 2. Europe and especially Sweden has really strict regulations regarding the amount of time a truck/bus driver are allowed to drive, so most of the trucks/buses on this tour probobly has 2 drivers a piece to be able to keep rolling non-stop
    4. And this is an important one........ Still no Avatar? I really need a GUitar tech to tell me if they are having sex with their guitars on "Hail the apocalypse", or if they just are abusing the shit out of them ;)
    5. As stated in the beginning: Great!!! Keep em coming :)

    • @eddiewinehosen6665

      I agree with point one; I’m Scottish but speak Swedish so it was like discovering an entire new album when I realised it was available in Swedish too. I love that they sing the Swedish versions of the album Sweden - I have actually travelled to see them live there purely for this reason.

    • @Handygamer
      @Handygamer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@eddiewinehosen6665 yeah, I was gonna jump on that one as well. With 12 drivers, it's most certainly 5-6 trucks and 3-4 busses (maybe they have some drivers as reserve, idk). And it's not only Sweden, but I can also attest to Germany having super strict regulations regarding driving hours, mandatory rests etc.
      As a sidenote: I'm not exactly 100% certain, but I think the guy with the gas mask that @TankTheTech chose for a still to talk about stagehands is actually Joakim himself.

    I have to share this feeling because I hope you and others will understand it. @10:36 the intro lures you in with peace and calm, and when I am at a live show, I look around and see everyone feeling those same things, maybe catching their breath from moshing,everything is still. I can't help but think that a lot of these people don't know what is coming and there is nothing they can do to stop it. @11:00 there is a slight pause then all hell breaks loose, instantaneous mosh pit and chaos everywhere. I hope all Sabaton fans get to experience this one day. Certainly one of my most favorite feelings of any concert I've been to, it is truly explosive energy.
    The footage of the Stockholm concert really brings that feeling out, and the large screen hypnotizes you with the flame burning. I can't say enough good things about this song.

    This is one of my most loved songs from Sabaton, it's just too perfect to not like it. So pure, fast heavy at once. Those latin words hit so hard! I love it so much. Sooo, just gonna binge watch all of your Sabaton reactions :D and I have been at the first concert where they introduced Fields of Verdun and holy molly. I loved it. No one knew it but it rocked a lot.

    As a swede I have to say I am partial to the swedish version of this song... of Any of the songs from that album actually... The lyrics are slightly different to make them work in the respective languages, but that is not all, to hear the songs of the swedish empire in my own language is an almost spiritual experience as I journey through our history XD

    This brings back good memories, I saw Sabaton live on the great tour just before the pandemic started. It was my very first metal concert, my very first real big concert really, so it was memorable and I wanted to go see more (this was to be the warmup before seeing Nightwish live the next year but this has yet to happen...). I was at the Stockholm concert, it was special because Sabaton has apparantly dreamed of performing at that arena :)
    That was one of the best experiences of my life, I've loved Sabaton for quite a while but I hadn't gotten myself to see any of their concerts. Was so happy to be able to attend this one, I was told they were awesome live but they very much exceeded the high expectations I had.
    As for the man in the gasmask, you will find out Attack of dead men :D

    As a Swede this whole album is a patriotic ride through both epic and sad feelings. It evokes a lot of patriotism, especially in Swedish. When I listen to it, I listen to the whole album in one go, from start to finish, as its best enjoyed.
    Also: I play this album in the background when I dominate the world as Sweden in EU4. #SwedenIsNotOverpowered

    Sabaton's show at Wembley was the last show I went to before lockdown! Was epic! Also Apocalyptica had a much more integral part than just guesting on a single track, there was a whole portion of the set where they were on stage. So you'll no doubt see more of them as you continue your Sabaton journey.
    Also check out Angels Calling that Sabaton released with Apocalyptica prior to the tour, or perhaps Apocalyptica: Live or Die ft. Joakim if you've not heard that one already.

    Fashion Fact - Nice of Apocalyptica to wear matching "Urban Camo" trousers (pants) that Sabaton seem to wear as part of their band's uniform.
    Urban Camouflage is a derivative of the US M81 Woodland Pattern Camouflage, but with shades of grey used to reflect an urban environment. It was first seen in the late 1990's. Whilst it was highly sought after by Hollywood studios, hip hop artists, and used by third world militias and police forces, it was never actually adopted other than for occasional "enemy forces" roles by the US Military.

    First load I ever pulled as a truck driver was for the Barnum and Bailey Circus. They had five 53 foot trailers and three flat bed trailers of stuff, and their train for personnel, their animals, and two more flat cars of gear. They had two drivers from my company permanently attached to move stuff around for them and I was assigned as their third truck driver for three days. Really cool. Their second driver was off doing something, so I went with the lead driver, a former SAS guy, to get the horses and elephants from the train. Train cars are huge and massively heave, so it was pretty crazy when I twigged to the fact that one of the cars was ROCKING. Lead driver explained that that was the elephant car, and the two elephants were in there gently swaying, which was enough to rock the whole car. I pulled the horses and their riders back to the arena, and I drove 15 mph and took every bump and turn like I had a load of eggs.
    So yes, twelve trucks, even with smaller European trucks, is a massive setup.
    And yes, mad props to the riggers, who were taking truckloads of equipment and basically building a second stage setup sans a stage upon which to set it up, while dangling a hundred or so feet above a concrete floor. Maaad props.
