The “Pot of Greed” joke is that every time any player uses that in the cartoons, they explain it so they can animate them drawing two cards. It’s mentioned EVERY TIME which is the joke.
And what's even dumber is that they all use pot of greed - they'll even explain the card to their opponent after their opponent played their own copies of pot of greed.
Also the fact it is one of the cards with the shortest yugioh card text. When there are so many cards with entire encyclopedic-length writing in their effect.
"How old is she?"
Well that depends on what language you're watching it in.
18:15- That's more of a reference to how 4kids would always go out of their way to pretend Japan didn't exist so kids wouldn't look up the Japanese versions of these shows. So whenever a series was set in Japan, they'd try to trick kids into thinking it took place in the states.
You know if I was drinking some water, I sure would be doing a spit take when I heard the question. "What's Middle Earth??"
I had the same reaction upon hearing it, just an immediate ‘Oh my goddd she hasn’t watched Lotrs.’ Before I realised ‘She hasn’t watched Lotrs 👀. We should really fix that.

All of the points were because Yami was calling references to Lord of the Rings, and the hum at the end is the Fellowship song in the LOTR movies!

Yugi's group and Kaiba are Japanese and they live in Japan. Pegasus and Rebecca are Americans. 4Kids was just bad at localizing things, so arbitrarily moved the setting of Yugioh to some random fictional place in America, rather than using the original locations. Similarly, many of the characters personalities and quirks were rewritten to one degree or another. Joey isn't from Brooklyn, for example, and his original name is Jonouchi. Tea's original name is Anzu and Tristan's is is Honda. Yugi, Kaiba, and Mokuba retained their original names, however - although Yugi's full name is Muto Yugi, but I'm not sure if "Muto" was really kept around to any meaningful degree in the 4Kids version.
Also, it should be noted that Yugioh GX isn't another season, it's the sequel series to Duel Monsters, with its own separate cast and storylines. It starts about ten years after the original series ended, and while there are some call backs to characters from the original show, the returning characters rarely stuck around for more than a single episode. The series is set in a school that Kaiba founded and that he owns, but he doesn't have anything to do with the day-to-day settings of the school, nor is he a teacher or the principal.
Yugi kept his last name but instead of Muto they pronounced it Mohto.
Also kaiba tiered the students based on the god cards - with obelisk blue (kaiba's god card) being the best and slifer red (yugi's god card) being the worst. Because kaiba is nothing if not petty lol.
The Kaibaboy Pegasusman joke is one of my all-time favorites from the series and it's just sad that no one gets it

Also the points thing is because Yami said the other world looked like middle earth from Lord of the rings. Yugi said he's wrong. So Yami started counting points after they both saw the sauron looking eye.

Middle Earth is Lord of the Rings, all the points Yami was keeping track of was any similarities to LotR so the castle, the giant eye being the Eye of Sauron, Dark Magician Girl Yami called her Gandolf who is the Wizard of the series, Voldemort the great evil but from Harry Potter

I like how this entire arc despite being filler, foreshadowed the plot of Yugioh GX
Not sure if you were aware but Darts is actually based off a character named “Coiffio” from the adult swim show Perfect Hair Forever. If you watch that, everything about Darts from his ridiculous voice to his color changing hair will make sense.
I've watched Yugioh Abridged 4 different times and I never knew this
I always just assumed it was such a ridiculous season that LK just said f*ck it, took some acid, and wrote Dartz

The guy who's hair color is constantly changing is named Darz and that's all you need to know to get one of the jokes in the Bonds Beyond Time movie. You can pretty much watch both movies right now, they are not tied to any plot of the series
You should watch the “Marik’s evil council” videos to know about these villains in this arc. Those came before this arc.
I like that nobody seems to realize that Yugi's "voice in my head" comment is a reference to the pharaoh who owned slaves.

Edit: the show is supposeto take place in Japan, but because of 4kids, it's been Americanized.
The points thing Yami was doing in the first half was a Harry Potter joke.
The Rex and Weevil reference joke might be my personal favorite in the series.

I think you should watch the Pyramid of Light abridged movie now because you only just barely missed it chronologically. That's why tea in the other episode said that he promised he would be nicer in the movie . Then you could finish the series and end off with the Bonds Beyond Time Abridged movie
This arc is amazing.
I didn't know of it before YGOTAS (the anime never got beyond the blimp in my country, and since the arc is filler, it's not in the manga), but it's DEFINITELY the best part of YGOTAS!!!
Chronologically, YGOTAS - The Movie takes place after Marik and before this season, but LittleKuriboh did that movie a lot longer ago. There's also season 0, which only has 3 episodes and is a pre-Duel Monsters ark, but its good too, as its darker by nature. Love the reactions, btw. I started watching your content back in January and have been along for the ride ever since.
Season 0 is a full season, 27 episodes. I think a good amount of those can be found on TH-cam

Yeah middle earth was a lord of the rings reference.
He was also making a two-fold reference because there is a pair of characters in lord of the rings who compete to see who can get the most kills and they frequently say their scores to one another.
The movies don’t really spoil anything that isn’t obvious and the cards and events aren’t really anything you’ll see aside from the movies

Arda is the world of Lord of the Rings, and Middle Earth is the continent where the majority of events and stories take place. If you haven’t watched the Lotrs trilogy I highly recommend it. They’re my favourite set of movies of all time.

"What's Middle Earth?" Today I learnt that Melon needs to react to the Lord of The Rings sometime (Middle Earth is where those films are set!)
"House braking" while I don't know word for word the definition it is basically teaching your pet how not to pee and poop in the house.

Edit 2: So, Darts is going to be the main villain of the season, voiced by Takahata (Alucard, Goku, etc). And he's incredible as a villain (incredibly bad, that is), but hillarious in the abridged series. There is a spin of series LittleKuriboh created where Marik's evil council competes with Darts' team on who is the most evil and it might actually be the best spin off Yugioh ever had.
Taka isn't Goku, MasakoX is Goku.

When I realized she didn’t know what Lord of The Rings was I was like WTF? It’s like not knowing what Harry Potter is.
Episode 65 reference were all about Lord of the Rings: middle earth, Gandalf and Sauran
Yugi's dream about Bandit Keith being a zombie and Tea being used by devil cards is canon, that's "Yu-Gi-Oh! R": In the manga, after Pegasus's death, his heirs resurrected Bandit Keith (who was k*lled by Pegasus), so he manipulated them, provoked Anzu / Tea's kidnapping to get revenge on Jono-Uchi / Joey.
Also in that manga, we have the first time one of Yugi's bullsh¡t strategies is logical: The Devil's Avatar is a card who copies your strongest Monster, but add one point to both Attack and Defense : he's always superior to every Monster you summon.
To defeat him, Yami Yugi made Obelisk get infinite attack points, which almost destroyed Kaiba corp's databases: Infinite can't get a "+1"... The computers weren't able to whistand such power
The movies don't have a set time frame of when they take place but the actual movies are quite good
Not sure if it's the same in the original, but the dub says that Rebecca is in college as of season 4, and she's about 10-12 years old. This season isn't canon, but still, neat character development.

You can watch the movies before or after the series. It's not really important what you watch first. I watched the movies before the series but I knew enough about the story. The movies are awesome. I would recommend watching the first movie, YuGiOh The Movie, also known as Pyramid of Light.

Yeah I mean all three movies are great. Pyramid of Light, Dark Side of Dimensions, and Bonds Beyond Time are all great in my opinion. Pyramid of Light was the first one I saw and I have immense nostalgia for that movie.

@@ArunaUtd oh I thought she meant the original movies. I watched some of YuGiOh abridged and couldn't really get into it. And I do not believe there is a DSOD abridged. I also wasn't a big fan of the abridged movie either. I prefer the original series and movies. But I do like LittleKuriboh's work with Team Four Star and his reviews of YuGiOh GX.

Only the first Yu-Gi-Oh abridged movie is canon it takes place after Battle City. Tea mentions it at one point but yeah the second movie Bonds Beyond time is its own thing. You can watch that one alone and doesn't really contribute to the Yu-Gi-Oh timeline (abridged/ordinary series).

Its not a filler episode, its a filler season, and the next will be too although I believe its shorter, and after that should be the final season of the original show.
I still can't nail down why I don't like react vids. But I love these, and your other channel as well, you seem so genuine, you aren't afraid to be honest and I haven't seen you backpedal at all when confronted with like an unpopular opinion or something. You got it right, YGOtas is a pure comedy show, while DBZa is an Action comedy show. This is something I try to hammer down my friends head about abridged series, they're not all the same.

It's only been 3 or 4 months since the end of season 1 in the Yu-Gi-Oh timeline. They just aged Rebecca up a bit to have her be a quote on quote love interest for Yugi.

Kaiba is actually the owner of the future school of Duel Monsters, Duel Academy. The very same school in the next iteration of Yu-Gi-Oh called Yu-Gi-Oh GX.

Pyramid of Light is meh. Bonds Beyond Time is pretty cool by concept alone. Dark Side of Dimensions is a must see for yugioh fans, imo.

Also for context the YuGiOh characters are Japanese (at least the original ones as far as I know). 4Kids localized the anime and even changed some of the characters names. Joey’s original name is Katsuya Jonouichi, Tristan is Hiroto Honda, and Téa is Mazaki Anzu.

I'd say once you catch up on the series then you can watch the movies and bonus videos. It's not vital you see them in order.
3:58 Just like any animae movies (except for the newest DB movies, I guess), they're just total filler no one will ever mention again, so no, don't have to watch them. With abridged some joke might get a call-back, but that's about it. I'd say the optimal way to watch would be simply going with upload dates on the main channel.

I would recommend not watching the Yu-Gi-Oh movie until you reach the god cards and seen a few episodes that have them in it. Seeing how the events that take place in the movie are after this season.

The entire "waking the dragons" season is a filler arc.
Also, you should at least watch the first abridged movie. It takes place right after the Battle City tournament ends.
The entire 4th season and the first half of season 5 are filler in Duel Monsters.

Well as far as the spin-offs (Three movies, Season Zero 1-3, the Evil Council, etc.) go there's... not really a particular time you should see them? At most maybe there's one or two jokes that'll make a bit more sense if you've seen Evil Councils 3 and 4.
Really I'd say keep your momentum and just keep going until you've hit the end then branch off.

this whole season is filler, so yeah, it is a filler episode. It is complete garbage but luckily they made it great with abridged.
Also they live in Japan but 4kids Americanized it by editing out most of the signs that they live in Japan, that is the joke
