when King Kai said "Tienshinhan" and then Tien proceeds to break his leg, it's a reference to OG dragon ball, where Tien and Yamcha fought and it ended with Tien breaking yamcha's leg :)

What broke Frieza was Goku saying “I’m done, I’m done fighting you. I’m bored. YOU’RE BORING ME” and then literally flying off. Frieza has never been dismissed like that in his life; on the contrary, he was the one dismissing others while they feared him. Frieza has a hatred for Goku because of this specific part. Where Goku made it clear he was superior, and that Frieza was nothing to him anymore.
He would rather be hated & hunted by his enemies than ignored. He considers himself to be the most important life form in the universe, the most powerful being, an emperor who rules hundreds of planets, armies, etc. Goku doesn't give a crap. He fought him for fun, beat him, & he's bored now. That is the greatest blow to Freeza's pride anyone has ever delivered

This series slowly evolved from just a fun series to watch to an actual series that made it feel like I was watching the original show. The emotions between Goku and Frieza were literally out of this world, and even after all the evil stuff he's done, Goku still helps him

We literally watch goku grow up for an entire series and the first season kicks off with him learning his evil origins and dying because of the actions of a brother he never knew by the hands of an evil rival who changes because of that sacrifice and friendship of said sacrificed rivals son.
Remember the line "I'm done, I'm Bored. You're Boring me." in the cell games

Also the foreshadowing of that after Gohan explains multiverse theory, and then Chi Chi moves onto cellular biology and he goes, "Aww, but cells are boring!"
The comment from Nail to Piccolo after their fusion, that he should "Fade away into your subconscious... supposedly." Was TFS' way of being able to stop the running "mindvoice" thing with Nail and Piccolo if it got too stale. It ended up being one of the best, most clever parts of the entire series.

Goku's I Am speech here is hilarious and its like a middle finger to the Funimation dub of the original Z where they changed it completely to something that Superman would say instead of Goku so when they dubbed Kai, Sean and Chris made sure to change it to the version you heard in Kakarot.

Popo's attitude in this series is actually incredibly accurate to his first appearance in OG Dragon Ball. I don't know if that was TFS' intention but it worked out pretty well for them.

Fun fact, his name is a pun on "freezer" because fonetically in Japanese both "freeza" and "freezer" are pronounced "furīza" but on paper are spelled differently. Toriyama himself made this pun as well as the other members of his family being based on cold related stuff (his brother Cooler and his father king Cold). So TFS kept the joke basically implying that Goku just read the name wrong

4+ Hours. That's the fight between Goku and Frieza . Arguably the longest fight in all anime industry.
Also Tien breaking Yamcha's leg is a reference to the og dragon ball.

Just an FYI, Frieza's final form is actually his true form. The forms he had before were when he suppressed his power, so when he reached his 100% final form (buff form) it's what he looks like when he isn't suppressing his power
His 50% form is his natural form, 100% is powered up like how every other character can, and SPOILER : Golden Frieza is also a power up like super saiyan

It's 50% of his "maximum" power output but that doesn't mean that the other 50% is something that has to be actively suppressed, it just means he's able to power up his body to (temporarily) double his power output. He can't sustain it for very long without it taking a toll on him and his power level starts decreasing, so it wouldn't make sense for the buffed-up form to be his natural full power. It makes more sense to be a forced boost.
It's not an unusual thing in Dragon Ball for characters to forcibly increase their power like that. Look at Roshi, it's literally the same thing. You wouldn't assume Roshi is constantly suppressing his buffed form right? He just knows how to built his power up to boost his maximum output temporarily.
No. His true form is his base form. The body changes by changing your ki higher. The body changes to accommodate the new power in the body. They are not suppressing there power. The way you can tell it's not suppressing is because they aren't using a tool like in other animes, and if they were suppressing their power it wouldn't take so much time or effort to get to that level
With the power of 37 muffins, Goku can defend himself through a planetary explosion and a flight through space.

So Goku's "hope of the Omniverse" speech was a comedic version of one of the earlier dubs. They made Goku more heroic for the American audience. Originally, he just gave a speech about who he was.
The original Dub line was as thus: I am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth. Ally to good ! Nightmare to You!!
I like the heroic version, especially the end of it, but the original version that gets used when they redid it to better match up to the original version, and the manga.
So Frieza getting slapped has a call back to episodes, I believe 28. Goku tried to buy time asking to play 20 questions. Goku in this episode slaps Frieza *20 times.* It gets counted with the Canadian subtitles.
in general the anime made goku into a hero which Toriyama didn't like. he straight up said in an interview that at his core goku doesn't really care about anything but fighting and getting stronger
Fun fact for you Jack, when Goku looks back after finishing off Frieza wih that final blast he actually looks sad and regretful that he killed him, the anime makes it look like he's more angry but yea.
Also another fun fact: the Kai dub version of Frieza's final words to Goku are my favorite in all of Dragon Ball

You know in retrospect Freeza's kind of dumb for trying to fight Goku again after losing in a fair fight, then getting chopped in half. If you couldn't win before, you have no chance now lol

You'd be surprised at how emotional TFS makes the abridged series much later while still keeping the core comedic base. They're really good writers.
The dragon is only as powerful as it’s creator. If someone is more powerful than the creator, he has power over it and can even kill it if he wants to. Since goku is a super saiyan his power level is probably way more than purunga so he can tell him no.
2:20 - Yeah, Goku becoming a Super Saiyan for the first time is like Cecil becoming a Paladin in FFIV. It's cool to see, but there's still 20+ hours of gameplay left.

It's so fun to watch you discover this series that has given me joy since 2008. DBZA is my Christmas tradition nowadays.
As good as season 2 is, just wait for season 3; it's even better across the board: writing, voice acting, and production. It's funnier, with a stronger emotional punch.
14:10 Yeah, I have a theory about that. In DragonBall during Goku's battle with "Jacky Chun" no body was able to see them move for the first few seconds while Goku and his opponent were able to exchange blows and play rock-paper-scissors. So it's likely that it feels like time is slowed down from their POV and the only "real-time" is when the person fighting has dialog.
Many people try to explain the 5 minutes thing that way, but there is still an issue. If you removal all "fight scenes" of Goku & Freeza punching, firing energy beams, or flying around super fast, & just play the scenes where they are standing around looking at each other talking...it is still WAY over 5 minutes

So fun fact. In the original dbz while Goku is fighting freiza, Bulma actually gets her body stolen by Ginyu (as a frog) and if I remember correctly Gohan has to get her body back and Ginyu ends up as a frog again. Also Goku pretty much just says no he doesn't want to come back yet. Dbza did it pretty much the same.
He missed the, "same but on fire" line from goku lol. They did a call back from when vegeta said he would turn the place into a barren wasteland if gohan didn't come out, "so basically the same except on fire."

Ten breaking Yamcha's "good" leg is a reference; back when they fought in Dragonball, Tien broke one of Yamcha's legs. So they're referencing that Tien has now broken both of Yamcha's legs.

The fight was "five minutes" over those several episodes. They move and fight at speeds so fast we couldn't comprehend it if it showed it at real time. Which I find funny because I believe it's the longest fight in anime history. I think it's over an hour.
