A wonderful piece. A point of interest and a legacy of the period is found currently in the Irish and Scottish Gaelic field games of Hurling and Shinty. It's standard practice for right handed players to play with their left hand forward from the right (opposite to golf, etc). This legacy comes directly from the use of two-handed swords and long handled axes, where the ultimate, controlling right hand was used to best advantage nearest the carrier; the left being used as a pivot when swinging from both directions.

I think there are roads etc named after him in Madrid.
In the old Spanish Capital, there is a memorial each year to honour Red Hugh O Donnell, it is on Utube.
