    So. Now that you've covered the Irish Nine Years War, what are you planning next?

      Hi, great question. A video on the flight of the earls will be out soon. After that I might do some stand alone history videos before tackling another big series like this one. People have suggested the Williamite war, Irish Confederate war, 1641 Rebellion, all great suggestions. What would you like to see?

    • @1987MartinT
      @1987MartinT ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HandyHistory1 All of those are great suggestions. Two that I don't see mentioned and I'd like to suggest, if you're willing to do videos on more recent conflicts, are the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War.

    It's disgusting how the weather always wrecked those fleets sent to aid the Gael against the Sassenach... from 1588 to 1744 (oh, and the french attempts during the napoleonic wars...) Could it be that the english simply had the more powerful weather-wizards? Strange that a spiritual people like the Gaels (irish & highlanders) were so sorely left in the lurch by the elements...😢

      @@imperatorscotorum6334 methinks there is an old gaelic song of precisely that wording, "it's all, all against us...", there is also a video somewhere out there about the downfall of the gael, I recall...

      Sometimes when a people suffers a military or political defeat, they dwindle away or assimilate completely (think of the northern African peoples conquered by the Moslems). Other times, the defeated people, through their determination and perseverance in the face of adversity, attain great accomplishments. The Irish maintained their faith and ended up sending many missionaries to many parts of the world. The U.S. thanks the Irish for many religious and cultural influences that would probably be lacking had the Irish become a self-satisfied people independent of the oppressors.

      The Gaelic system defeated itself never really a unit
      Full of informers and traitors like the O'dempseys the biggest traitors Ireland has ever seen

      The f**k up was Spainish. Landing as far as the possibly could from the O'Neills and O'Donnells, getting themselves stuck and surrounded in Munster when they should have landed in Derry.

    Hi I love your videos because they are great quality and are just amazing but could you please make more videos maybe on the Bruce campaign in Ireland? Or any more medieval wars like the battle of clontarf and the Viking invasions or the Norman invasion in 1169, maybe even the confederate wars! Anyway your videos are amazing

    Ive heard a few different accounts ,no idea if there was truth to it. random little things.
    The Spanish Landed in the wrong area were meant to link up in Ulster?
    The Gaelic lords were low on gunpowder at this stage so it was all of noting type of deal, but that the battle came down to Irish horse not having a type of saddle to turn the horse faster in formation or something. The winter made the Local Bogs freeze over which actually helped with the march down south to support the Spanish.
    And that either the Spanish in the town of kinsale didnt act at the right time or the irish didnt, but ya you wonder why they didnt just hold out.
    Hope you do O'Sullivan Beare next sad tale but its a story.

      They had access saddles with stirrups, just noble elite did not change the manner in which the cavalry fought. Could not/would not receive a charge (like most light cavalry of the time).
