Front sway bars were removed for drag racing, we old Skool guys did this a lot , weight transfer!! MMFF gave out these tip to get the car’s to hook up at the strip!! Those repairs shoddily done were most likely done to repair cracks!! Thanks
My pet peeve is botched electrical. You all know what I mean. Under dash wiring cut with butt connectors all over, wires pulled out and aftermarket alarms etc.
Perfect car for a cheap fun round about. At least you cant put your whole foot thru the floor and the shifter wasn't a pipe with a union as a knob. Best $500 5.0
Just bought a completely stock 1988 lx 5.0 5 speed manual no rust and a straight body 118000 miles. My first manual car! Want to add exhaust, wheels , tires, cai, and 3.73 gear. Thing is fun as hell stock, hopefully those mods will wake it up a bit.
The replacement trannybolt is METRIC numbers on thehead denote metric bolts and head numbers starting with F denote stainless bolts. Dashes mean US bolts
Mine sat for a while during my work related injury as it had a twizzled oil pump drive stick at the time I couldnt afford to fix it or physically able to do it myself. It sat outside and the quarter window on the passenger side began to leak. Kept the floor board wet underneath the carpet and rusted out the rear passenger floor pan. The car was from Michigan to begin with so it had rust issues from the beginning. Now I have to cut out and try and replace the floorboard. How can you do it other than how that one was done other than doing the entire pan so there wont be any seams? I am going to do it the best I can as the car will never be a show winner but wont look bad from the top down. I would imagine I can spend a bit more time to make the repair as neat as possible. Rust just sucks. I love this car tho since it was my first fox and Im 50 and have had it since I was 24 years old. It only had 40k when I got it in 94 and its an 87. These things are love affairs dude. They will make you do some stupid stuff and spend stupid money....lol
Fox body floors especially the driver side (most used) had a problem with metal fatigue. The floor would start to crack around the bolt holes and if you do not catch it time the crack will spread from hole to hole and then across the entire floor. The cop cars had double floors to reduce this because the police officers were consistently going in and out of the cars during day. If a car was owned by a bigger driver this was common. In 85 and lower mustangs this was quite common.
I’m gonna be watching every one of your videos over the next year. My 40th birthday gift will be my first Foxbody. Can’t wait!! Only a little over a year away!
**Just for a little clarification; my first 7 foxes were in worse shape than this car. Rust, body damage, generally worn out. This video is intended to help new or perspective fox owners know what to look for, and where to start on a new foxbody project. ANYONE that thinks I'm some sort of a perfectionist hasn't met me, or seen my car in person.
I hope you answer 2 year old video questions even if this question isn't mentioned. 😬 I have an 86 5.0 I cannot for the life of me find the proper equivalence on a battery. Can you recommend one please?
Thanks for making a video like this! I came up to Ford Takeover from Louisiana and been wanting a notch for a long time. I finally fount 1 for 3 grand and I got me a little project! Great video!
3:21 Im sorta new to cars and I have a problem with my 89 GT stock clutch. Its stripped and people say to adjust it just pull the pedal back back that doesn't change anything. Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on this? Or do yall recommend just putting in the money to replace it with the firewall self adjustors? Much thanks to anyone who sees this!
My 79 coupes core support is so much more fucked than this one. Either gonna have to pull it or find an OEM one. People need to start manufacturing 79-82 parts
Floor was rusted out at some point. That car screams drag car. Tube chassis all tin work. Nothing on the front other than the towers, everything else cut it out make way for some huge snails!
Just bought a 93 calypso coupe, I’ve got to replace floor pans, and the door pillars where the doors bolt up. Most would scrap it but I’m just wanting something to build a street strip car. For me it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Have you noticed how many degrees of wear/slack there is on these double roller timing chain sets? Does 3+ degrees really matter? Only if you think degreeing a cam matters. The harmonic damper ring can be moving too.
If I'm ever going to found a rust free Fox Body. You would be my go to guy for knowledge when it is time to get one or two. The car is good. But, it is hacked up. But now the bill is bigger. But that is something I want.
My Foxbody has had a replaced driver side floor pan, looked like a backyard job like this one, too. Passenger side is OEM and is in fair shape for a Northeast car(Jersey). Oddly, the torque boxes were solid. I have no idea why they were replaced. It's an aftermarket sunroof car(yeah, one of THOSE) I trimmed the seams back and welded it up when I was doing subframes, that's about all I could do. I RTV'ed the aftermarket sunroof and it doesn't leak any longer. I use it as a mod platform since the replacement sheet metal means it'll never be worth much. These hacked up Foxbody cars are great restomod candidates compared to originals.
I had a 4 cyl one time 1990 it was gonna be a swap car I'm in canada and there was no rust but I ended up driving it to college because I had nothing else and I drove it like a rally car all the time and in gravel pits and stuff and it looked like this car does up in under
You mentioned 13 - 14 degrees timing with premium. Just bought a 92 notch which was mostly a drag car. Nothing too wild, runs low 12's. I was told the car is at 16 degrees and I run 93-94 depending on what gas station I'm at. Would you think that's still safe? It's now mostly a street car.
I was dumb and sold the 85 notch 4 banger I had, picked it up off a kid that got it off his grandma who bought it brand new and must have only drove it for shopping and church, it only had about 100k miles.
Man, I just got a Vermillion Red '90 25th Anniverssary Convertible LX. Body looks great, interior is nice. Good top. Great looking and running car. Not perfect (needs timing cover gasket (big oil leak). Already replaced failed starter (and solenoid/relay/battery cables). Fuel pump just went out. I knew it was going to. Had a real loud whine). No big deal, fuel pump/Filter, done. Anyway, the BIG problem is the rust underneath. Like a fool, I did not check (didn't even think of doing so). Turns out the car is from Michigan (which explains). I actually e-mailed another youtube fox guy pictures of it but he failed to get back to me. I really like this car. Just the idea of it being stripped/junked is a real bummer. There is some rust issues in the front frame rails (not the worst I've seen, no "swiss cheese holes", but it is there nonetheless. Aside from that, the worst is in the rear section of the vehicle. There's a little here and there in the front (very little), but the rear, including them "torque box" things are pretty rusty. What do you think? Is it even worth "thinking" about repairing? Or is it best to just let go? If so, what do you think is a fair sell price (I don't want to screw somebody over the way I got screwed over). Interior is very nice (seats, door panels, dash). Good top, very straight body. Good running driving drive train. Thanks in advance, Look forward to hearing from you soon -
This makes me feel so blessed to have my car. I bought it bone stock. The issues my car has are so damn minor compared to the “minor” issues on this car
Do you remember how the stock clutch adjustment worked? Like you pull on the pedal and its supposed to ratchet the quadrant or something like that right?
Wow I love the channel but you guys are being beyond perfectionists maybe the previous owner didn’t have the money to do the rear shocks maybe he used a shitty repair shop that just removed the sway bar and didn’t say anything I have seen worse car looks good to me for a project car you guys completely tear them down anyway
This is about knowing what to look for dude, how to spot things, what to expect, and when you should walk away. If a car has had the entire rear floor removed and replaced on a southern car, I would want to know that.
Yes the floor is messed up but not the end of the work I would buy that car for the correct price but I am not overpaying for a Fox body in that condition the car in the video in my opinion looks a great project car
@@familyrcvideosds3680 I am more concerned with why the floor was replaced, as you can see the car is basically rust free. Both fender aprons were replaced from a front end collision, as I showed in the first video. Sunroof cars will leak and rust out the rear floor pans, but this car is not equipped with one.
@@FoxcastMedia it could of been a northern car before it made it's way down south or parked for a long time with the windows open. I'd still like to buy the car because it's a gem up here in Ohio. F’in damn good video, so many people need videos like this. I hate subscribing but you give me no choice.
MAN that floor SUCKS!!!! We are replacing the entire floor on ours now, too much work and sloppiness to do separate panels.
Thanks as Always Caleb, Great info.
Good advice. Doing a lot of that stuff on my SSP. Can't wait to see what project car you end up getting next.
Great info
My car was almost like this when i bought it in '03 but now it is like a whole different car to this day.
Fix that thing man 💪
The car isn't as show clean as the other cars on your show, but with some elbow grease and time it's definitely doable!!
You didn't mention strut towers . If a fox has jacked up ( rusty ) strut towers or torque boxes I'm walking away .

Compared to what we find up here that things near mint
Come up to Manitoba Canada if you want to see rust LOL
I was thinking the same thing for Vermont. Strut towers are almost always gone.

I would love to have him check my 89 Gt have him look at it is carburetorated
Whomever ran that exhaust needs to be smacked
I haven't seen all your videos, maybe you talked about this in another one. Rusted out shock towers are pretty common up here in the midwest.
hmm only owned 17 foxes..I've owned bought and sold and built over 200 of fox bodys.. lol
Well I mean 17 is still a lot to me. I've owned 0
That's called jerry rigging.... pure and simple.
Something like that I'm taking it home to take apart and build it right.
I have learned from past experiences if I see undercoating walk away.
OMG a video that fox guys can relate too on Foxcast that's crazy
Who would have thunk it!
