A bolt-on and tuned 3.7 makes like 270 wheel on a good day, on a Dynojet. A basic h/c/I packages slapped on a 200,000 mile 302 will do 310 on the same dyno. Thats a 40 whp difference and probably a 80-100 lb/ft torque difference. And a fox body is ~300 or 400 lbs lighter than an early 3.7 Mustang. I don't think anyone would accept a V6 Mustang as a good substitute for a h/c/i fox body. More like something you are forced to change to due to, idk money or circumstances? This reminds me why people just slapped a Vortech or some nitrous on "back in the day". Thanks for the video, Caleb!
Nice to see his LX get the 300hp mark!! Surprised to see the hp pick up without the filter
Yeah I always found there was a big difference going from a fender well mounted filter to a simple cone filter.
I have a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. I'm going to put a few mods. I'm under no illusion that I'll put run Mustangs or something but I'd definitely try another truck.
I had a trick flow twisted wedge top end kit put on my 88 mustang GT along with new rings and made 300 hp 320 torque
Is the thick flow just the intake?
Those wheels are so bad ass!!
I love your channel. I really don't miss back east but I loved that part of the country when I lived around and north of Knoxville. Great part of the country. And gives me an idea what I was running back in those days. Sometimes it felt like more than 300 anyway.
I expected at least 330hp at minimum. I would say my heads cam and intake setup would probably hit 380-390 and that’s N/A. Trick Flow 11r 190 heads, trick flow stage 4 camshaft 595/595 lift, pro comp high rise intake, 5.0 SBF, all ran by a Holley Sniper EFI system.
I have a Mini cooper with 324whp. The only difference between my claim and yours is I have a dyno sheet to back it up. I'm being a bit of a smart ass because I'm in the mood, but I do have a dyno sheet to back it up. ;)
@@michaelbradley7529 pfft. sorry to say but a pushrod 2 valve V8 making 324 whp is faster than a 4 banger . better power band due to velocity of air making torque better low range . what is the deal with you compact guys always barking up the wrong tree and trying to brag. like modern Type R's are JUST Now getting as quick as LT1 / LS1 F bodies from the damn 90s. just... stop.
@@tonypepperoni229 Are you sure you read my entire comment? You are claiming things I never argued against. It's like you are projecting arguments other people may have made to you in the past. I'm well aware of V8 hp and torque as I used to own and drag race V8 mustangs in my youth. I mention the Mini because that's what I have been racing for the last 15 years with SCCA. I can tell you from experience racing both that the Mini I race now is about 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile than my Mustangs were back in the mid and late 80's. Even though my V8's from the past had more torque than my current 1.6L it's also about a thousand pounds lighter. My main argument was actually addressing commenters that make armchair butt dyno claims.

Always good to do a once over prior to dyno day to check things like plugs, gap, wires, etc. but with everything going on right now in the world...I can see just getting a plug that would work. Hopefully his tuning gets a little easier with the correct range plug. Can’t wait for the vortech!
I prefer just replacing the stock filter with a K&N until you have to modify the intake tract for boost or BIG N/A power.
I haven't put my fo on a dyno yet so im using this video as a reference. Im running tfs upper and lower intake along with gt40p heads. I haven't thrown a cam in it yet which would definitely get the most of out my current set up. I do have the supporting components for my setup like injectors, cold air intake, throttle body, etc. Im curious to see what kind of power my fox has.
Just discovering this video.... will be hitting them up after I get my holley terminator x max installed in my 70 Torino.
If you run the cold intake tube in to the hood it puch more air flow into motor
You have to switch it over to mass air in order for it to run right with a bigger cam
The first thing I do before going to the dyno no matter what is, change oil and plugs.
Great video. Showed where not to take your Stang. Tune was overwhelming those dudes.

Depends on your cam on how much you can make.
Well the cam is a start.. It's best to have a build able to handle all the boost.. Low end stock motor can crumble.. Best to plan out your motor build from bottom to top.. compression tough

Love fox bodies! Great job on the look and parts. Use to have a 93..now just have a ton of parts collecting dust.
I've been doing the fox body thing for 14 years now and am ALWAYS telling people to ditch them stubby air filters just not enough volume to get the air in there
so what do you suggest instead of those filters?
Can get more around 360 if you have the cam degreed I believe depending on the top end kit you choose. Im probably wrong thou
Maybe with long tubes, AFR 185s, and a good Anderson cam... and an Edlebrock Victor efi.
I bet that intake is holdin u back in spots..probably great for it velocity of air but not quanity...edelbrock is a nice piece..as is the tfs....
I had a 91 notch with edelbrock rpm intake, edelbrock victor junior aluminum heads mac headers and 70mm bbk cai it made 285whp and 321tourque and f 303 cam
I wish my 1989 LTD Crown Victoria sound like that. Too bad it's 5.0L is detuned in comparison to the Fox Mustang's H.O version, having only half the horsepower. I might have to swap the motor or make serious upgrades.
Hey Caleb? Gotta say that is one clean and absolutely beautiful Foxbody? I have got to paint my car! Thanks for all the videos brother....

These EEC-IV TFI systems will burn the cap and rotor pretty quickly. It's always the first thing to check.
That car gotta be my favorite too 4 cars on you tube. I want those rims
Mi mustang have a .30 piston, y303 heads, ecam typhoon intake and make 305 whp and 340 wtq
Assuming you are running long tube headers with that combination should make 100 rear wheel hp

What filter should we be running on our cold air intakes in the fender?
How do those numbers compare to someone who has the complete Trick-Flow top end kit? He has The Trick Flow heads, a mystery cam and a cobra intake! If he where swap the cam and intake for a Trick Flow Intake and cam, would he see a significant gain i n HP, or are those numbers already in the ball park of what one of these cars would make on average with a complete Trickflow Top end kit?
Very similar
Not going to see a difference what ever cam he has in there is working vary good I've seen alot of 302s running tickflows full kit and they are in the 290hp area seen 1 hit 279 the trickflow kit is more for guys that dont really know a whole lot about piecing together their own combo and give you a package guaranteed to make some power
Just watching this video and I was wondering how long it was going to take for them to check the plugs! My 2018 Raptor with a 93 octane tune would eat plugs every 10k miles, which sucked, but I got proficient at changing them.
It would run fine one day then act like crap the next and I knew it was plug time.
I know it was a year ago but do you remember what size throttle body and injectors this car had? I just finished my first build from the ground up. Curious what I will make lol. TF 170s, TFS 1 cam, gt40 upper and lower, with long tube headers and 65mm TB. So not to far from this it seems. 🤔

Man it sounds good. I miss my old 302. But sadly my 3.7 makes similar power and just a bit less tq.
Who can't afford a $6,000 2011 mustang and a fox body at the same time though?
@@Carguylogan my bolt on and tune 3.7 made 317whp on a awd mustang dyno.
@@DOHCCordia That's gonna be a no lol. Dyno is optimistic unless the car traps 110 in the 1/4. Which it definitely does not lol.
@@Carguylogan that's going to be yes. And other cars that day put down about what they should've. 317whp and 290 wtq. Then with a bit of boost made 520whp. Which is about where a 302 wants to split in half.
@@DOHCCordia So how come the fastest all motor 3.7s on E85 are in the 106-108 mph range? 317whp on an accurate dyno will produce 110 mph traps in a 3300-3400 lb car. You got a fluffy dyno. And either way, performance is what we are after not dyno numbers right? A FBO E85 3.7 mustang with full race prep is still slower in the 1/4 than a backyard billy h/c/i fox body street car driven to the track with a pizza in the back seat and a cooler of beer. 307rwhp 3200 lb notch back 12.30 @ 110. It looks like the car is a little leaner now, I hoped that helped. On my combo (gt40x heads, e-303 and RPM2) I’m running about 13.5 AFR with good success but haven’t verified at a dyno yet.

Spark plugs do matter. So does proper gap size.
@@pimpovic2 not much in the way of power as long as the car isn't misfiring. A couple horsepower.
@@rhull3939 I'm not thinking of it in terms of gaining HP. It's about letting the engine work the way it should, in order to capitalize on timing and using what's on the table.
