    If you want the wheels of your dreams, make the 5 lug conversion. It's not hard. When you put 94-95 spindles the car, you also get WAY better brakes. I did my '91 rag top because I wanted Bullitt wheels seriously bad, and 11 years later, with Firestone Indy 500 tires,they look the business and drive amazingly well. I'm the original owner of my Fox and over thirty years later, every drive is a thrill, every time. I love it.

      I’m in the same camp. Original owner of a 93 5.0 manual Coupe. Made some very specific adjustable suspension and chassis stiffener upgrades. Now dialed in with a set of 9” aftermarket cobra wheels on all four, and I agree the car is a thrill to drive, especially on the twisty roads.

    I would have (and did) skip the heartburn about the wheels... My biggest complaint with the foxes was the brakes! They aren't safe over 80 MPH. Forget hitting the brakes at over 100 MPH!!! The alternator was #2 (shitty for big stereos)

    First mod I did, and I am 75 years old(bragging now, kids) and wanted the dual piston PBR calipers on my Fox LTD ex-cop car. and yo can drill out the 5 holes in the rear drums, to avoid having to install the disc brake rear. It is just my sleeper/cruiser. EZ nut and bolt project. just be sure if you are reading this, and want to do it, be sure to change the passenger side brake line connector to a cone fitting. or you will pissout all your brake fluid. Ask me how I know.

    I did the 94-98 Cobra conversion with 95 spindles back in 2000 or so, because everything needed replacing at 200k+ miles and there were no 4 lug wheels I liked except for the 93 Cobras. That included all suspension parts and steering. Luckily I got everything at a great price and even bought several extra spindles, like 8-9 sets, for $60-70 a set, selling them on eBay for $150-190 a set. That paid for all my upgrades and I was able to help a lot of people that couldn't find the spindles. At least there are a lot more options for 4 lug now.

    I always Rocked the Cobra R's back in the day... I would have to say another flaw had to be the cup holder...What cup holder? Exactly we all know you had to get a bottle with a twist top or a fountain and put it between the e brake and passenger seat. Great Video Caleb... I still remember my buddies car with the two ten inch kickers and the five star 17 inch primes

    I’ve had my fox since it was new . ROH and Simmons made wheels that fit amazing. I’ve had 16x9s, 16x8s, 17x 10s. All these wheels have center caps that clear.

    I feel the 4-lugger's pain, the wheel choice always has sucked. I'm in a similar boat with my 5.0 MN-12 Thunderbird, the MN-12 chassis has wierd 5x4.25 bolt pattern.

    I'm guessing that the flaw is the 500hp block issue.
    Could be the lack of chassis strength too.

    Ahhh…those were the days! I well remember the Impala SS wheels! Loved those wheels. Always wanted a Fox Body, but ended up getting a S197- I like it, but it lacks the nostalgia.
    The two most popular wheels in my area in High School (mid to late 90’s) were the Weld Draglites and…Centerlines. The old Centerlines were my favorite. The black mesh wheels were the best, but they always remind me of the Trans Am GTA’s

    • @moej6014
      @moej6014 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I have observed in the past year of research, if you use 96-04 spindles, use the stock A arm's, and lowering springs, the geometry is close to the same. You won't have to use a bump steer kit and you won't have to spend $400 on ebay 94-95 spindles.

I put these rotors on my 91 coupe and 2 left side rear axles out of a 1987 ford ranger to make the rear five lug. Only run rear ranger axles if your not planning on racing and if you are planning you need hardened axles no matter what lug you have.

    The problem, I think, isn't the just the 4 lug, but the bolt pattern. You can find a bunch of 4 lug in the 4x100 or 4x114. But for some reason ford does this 4x108 and they still do it. My Fiesta ST had 4 lug in the 4x108. If they would just change to a different 4 lug pattern it would possibly open up more options.

Plus, I've gone through several rear passenger tail lights & also had a nice clean 2in crack in the lower passenger side windshield, thanks to the flex of the once Notch-backed, now Convertible, LX 5.0, as those Verts were produced.. But I love the sound! (Don't know why Ford didn't have that done with better frame stiffening.)

    The fox body stang wasn't the first with 4 lugs .There was some 60 mustang with 4 lugs , I believe the 6 cylinder ones and from 74 to 78 the Mustang II also came with 4 lugs regardless of engine and trans. And same for Fairmont and Zephyrs T-birds and Cougars of that era (fox body) I converted mine to 5 lug because the wheels i wanted only came from Ford with 5 lugs. They are 17x8 double 3 spoke from 94-95 stang GT with sport package. I got a set on mine and love the look. Front rotors from Mark 7 and rear axles and disk brakes from SN95 cars. Best mod i've done to better stopping the car. Too bad youtube(google) doesn't have a feature to add pictures or small video to the comments.

  • @mylanmiller9656

    To convert to 5 bolt wheels was the easy part. A set of rotors off a 1985 Linclon will bolt right on to a 1987 or newer 5.0 mustang. The Back end needs two long axels and drums from a Ranger built before 1993. if Your mustang is older than 1987 you need Front rotors from a 2-wheel drive ranger.

  • @marksmusicplace3627
    @marksmusicplace3627 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is the biggest flaw which we all agree about the four lug vs five lug. But I think its a combination of a multiple things that made this car problematic from the get go. I would say having to weld or bolt on subframe connectors. The braking system all together. the 10,5 inch disc up front and drums in the rear as well as the smaller master cylinder set up is dangerous for high speed stopping. Other flaws is that foxbodys seem to be built with weaker metal points. Making us having to buy torque box kits, Stock T5 were prone to gear and syncho failures. Headlight switch that gets hot and fail as well as the weak dash dimmer switch. the ashtray being so easily broken and such flimsy wiper arm setup. Other flaws such as the plastic cowl or how easily the 6 eye headlight system is never spot on or easily faded. Overall. I owned my foxbody for 26 years and love the car but its had some many flaws that its more than just being a four lug setup in my opinion.

    Four lugs never caused me any grief. My biggest Foxbody problem is people following me home in the middle of the night to wave $$$ under my nose. No, my Calypso Notchback is not for sale, no, you're not gonna LS swap my Fox. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    The brakes! What's your opinion on the best 4 lug brake upgrade?

    IMO, keeping body lines straight. Especially door fitment. My 89 currently has an issue with the bottom of the drivers door being sunk in.. its not rolled in.. but its at least a 1/4 inch sunk in compared to the rocker. There is no in and out adjustment on the hinges. I have searched and searched for a correction or someone else with the same issue. Most of the articles are on window frame alignment, sagging hinges, etc. Its the same front of the door to the back. Door closes fine, doesnt rattle. It just bothers me every time i look at it!

    The only and best looking wheel to put on a Fox Body is the Pony R 🤩🙏🏼👍🏼

    Biggest flaw was the design of the front frame/ strut towers that vaporized them into rust north of WV.

    I'd put the entire suspension design as a flaw, but that's what made it so affordable. you want negative camber in the front? add Thunderbird lower control arms. Want rear disc brakes? learn from the SVO and hunt down a Lincoln setup. Want a manual rack and pinion for drag racing? Go find a 1979 Fairmont or other Fox rather than paying more for Flaming River. Can't clear your rear slicks? Pull the Quadrashock.
    another flaw, shared with the F and G bodies from GM...you produce car, especially a unibody, for over a decade and you get aged design and panels that don't fit as well since you've worn out the stamping dies.
    a lack of rim choice didn't bother me only because I grew up in the 1970's where every Chevy car or truck hot rodded got the Corvette rally rims...or Cragar SS...maybe a Daisy/Coke bottle rim or torq thrust to be really special.

    Mann about 5 years ago I had bought a set of almost completely perfect chrome ponies for 125$ only needed rear tires. (To put on my fox in my photo) well I ended up selling them for 200$ they were staggered 17s and my inbox blew up. After I sold them I realized how much they actually went for 🤦🏼‍♂️ wish I would’ve held onto them

    Pony's are the best looking wheel on these cars! Silver or polished aluminum look best, not much for chrome. Aluminum spoke (or as you refer to them) mesh spoke look real good on these cars.
