    I am a student who is applying to conservatories in US this year. I was working on my application materials and writing and answering emails to the schools this night, pretty stressed out. But this music is a relief. There's agony, longing, ecstasy, persistence, love, hope in the notes, and the faith for me to strive for my future. Love this world. Thank you, Beethoven.

    Avec la retenue et l’émotion qui conviennent, le jeu subtil d’Alfred Brendel exprime avec une rare émotion le douloureux chant de cette sonate.

    Olyan jó értelmezés! Beethoven valószínűleg duzzogna, de mégis értékelni fogja :-) Alfred Brendelt hallgattam néhányszor élőben, és nagyon nyugodt, nyugodt, békés lélek. Nagyon szerény. Beethoven nem erre törekszik. Ahhoz, hogy valóban játszhassam Beethovent "ahogy a könyvben meg kell tenni", egy lélek kell egy kis szenvedésben és gyötrelemben. Talán mint Richter? vagy Gilels? Nem tudom. De technikailag Brendel csodálatos munkát végez! ..

      +LeVolVik Barenboim's performance on youtube is nothing to brag about. I just finished listening to it because I had read your comment earlier and wanted to compare it with Brendel's. There is no comparison. The older, self-taught Austrian beats the younger, Argentine, Israeli, Palestinian hands down. Brendel devotes himself exclusively to the piano. He doesn't pretend to know anything other than how to play the piano. I read in Wikipedia that Brendel almost exclusively performs the German repertoire.

    • @royjuarez1971
      @royjuarez1971 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Pumme Luff I like this interpretation. It is somewhat dynamically subdued, probably a trait of the recording as much as the performance. However, it is also a sensitive performance, which I prefer to the harsh smashing of the keyboard found in some interpretations.

      I don't really understand what "I read in Wikipedia that Brendel almost exclusively performs the German repertoire." has to do with "He doesn't pretend to know anything other than how to play the piano".
      is barenboim as a pianist not as good as brendel because he pretends to "know" german pieces he actually doesn't know?

    initially exaggerated tempi in either direction tend to undermine impetus, connectedness, cadence, rise and fall of melody, a natural flow of play- though the further he goes the better he gets because the music takes control of him rather than the other way around, and then he's Brendel

    • @Mek369
      @Mek369 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ralph Berney unexpected tempi, but the piano is singing, its not even exaggerated within the context of the sustain.. Admittedly ,first listen, wow what pause, second time seemed half as short bec you could still hear this wicked piano/ Favorite version so far, Brendel is reliable awesome source.

    No me gusta esta interpretación. Muy lenta la introducción, y muy poco intensa. Todo lo demás, muy suave, le falta la FUERZA expresiva de Beethoven. Y de "patética"... esta versión nada tiene. Este pianista podría dedicarse a Mozart, pero jamás a BEETHOVEN.

    • @justadude641
      @justadude641 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Have you ever read the score? On the Allegro di Molto section it's marked piano most of the time. It's not meant to be played "con forza", as most people play it, but soft. Beethoven new what he was doing: if you play everything forte, how will you create an effect of a wave? You just need to follow his indications on the score, he was always right...
