- Behind Bars - Episode 3: Antananarivo Prison, Madagascar | Prison Documentary
Behind Bars: Philippines - New Bilibid Prison: • Behind Bars: Philippin...
The World's Toughest Prisons will reveal what it really means to be part of this very special world - from different angles. At each prison we visit, the audience will be immersed into daily prison life. The viewer will experience firsthand the challenges each guard faces on a daily basis; likewise, he will learn about the prisoner's struggles to develop strategies for survival.
But the deep insights in this series will also allow the audience to experience the other side of the story: why was the prison built like this? What kind of rules and security measures exist here? And how are the prisoners monitored and, if they break the rules, punished?
This documentation is a never-before-seen insight into an unbelievable world, which exists within the realms of law and justice but with its own definitions of right and wrong.
This is a story audiences will love to experience, while simultaneously being thankful that it isn’t their own.

I really don't get it either. Some of these moms became pregnant in prison, looks like. Like, why?! Unless they got rped or something like that.

I've watched documentaries about prisons all over the world - Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, US, Philippines, Germany, etc and not a single one of them came close to this hell hole. I am speechless.
The Malagasy government is finally trying to fix the problem. They're building quite a large prison outside of the city. I had a tour at the construction site yesterday. It seems the government had no other option after receiving so much pressure for change after this documentary was released. My dad actually helped film this documentary as a local fixer. Showing the horrors of this prison to the world was the best thing to do for the prison system in Madagascar to change. even though it puts the country i live in to shame, im happy this video has 15 million views
If they have money to build a new prison, why they don't give more money to fix the problems of this one??? Everybody says that this prison is hell... But if you see the biggest problems, they're not because they want this prison to be so awful. It is because they don't give money for nothing.... So everything becomes such a huge problem, and all together make this prison hell...
@@G.TZ77 the biggest problem of the prison in antanimora is that it's overcrowded
@@vinceoldenhof7117 Yes I agree, but... But if they could give more money, some things could be definitely better...
My point was different. If you see at the comments of these documentaries, everybody says that Magadascare is the worst. If you search you will find about a prison in Syria. This prison is true hell, because they want to be hell. In Magadascare, you can see mothers with babies inside. What you can understand from this?? They want this prison to be hell??? Definitely not.. But sure is one of the worst. Why?? Because they don't want to give more money....
@@G.TZ77 the prison i was at was 3x bigger than the one in antanimora. A lot of prisoners from antanimora will be placed in the new prison for sure. Due to activist pressure the government is receiving, it is only my hope that they will also improve other things such as giving the prisoners more nutritious food
@@vinceoldenhof7117 Now you can see what I mean.. More nutritious food!!! Which means more money. So we go to my first comment. If they have money for a new prison why they don't give more money to fix some of the problems, like food??

They’re all for jail for being poor. I’m sure rich criminals don’t go here. Horrible
Pedro Henrique I agree with you, I feel if they are murderers, rapists, kidnappers, and abusers(physically) they deserve this. But if they, let’s just say stole food because they don’t have the money to afford food or something much much much less, I feel they should have a different, more nicer prison? I also think they shouldn’t allow babies and toddlers to be in that place. They should have a separate building for them while their parents serve time...so horrible for them to experience that and to think that is normal.
@Pedro Henrique So every "crime" (I put that term in quotations because acts that are considered criminal are both subjective and relative depending on where you are geographically, what time period you're in, etc.) warrants the same punishment? These are humans, not feral animals (Honestly: I wouldn't even put feral animals in this deplorable environment).
Who's the real criminal, the person committing theft and fraud because they can't feed themselves or their family in a corrupt and exploited land, or the judges and politicians exploiting that land and turning a blind eye to corruption to line thier pockets?
Pedro Henrique That goes for adults and children who have murdered their abusers, kidnappers, etc. in order to free themselves too?
Even Corona has second thoughts about coming here.
Corona plus this environment could easily cause it to mutate into something else🤢.

Do something like what? People are not in prison for nothing. What do you want the world to do? People commit crimes by choice. No one invites anyone to prison. We make choices that lead us to prison. The only thing the world can do is stop committing crimes or sinning. It is as simple as that. I'm from Ghana (west Africa) and everything you see in this video is very normal. No government is ready to spend on a prisoner. In Ghana, most citizens live below 60 dollars a month. As a graduate, I work for eight hours a day and receive an equivalent of 116 dollars a month. During military regimes, one can be picked from his farm and will die in prison without ever being charged in court.

Is there no soap, broom, water, bleach, garbage bags on the island? Let the prisoners clean the cells. Let them sleep outside so they get air. I ask for forgiveness for any complaints ever had about anything in my blessed life.
Exactly, the prisoners should be made to clean the place they are at and maybe sleep in shifts like some at night and others day
Did you WATCH the video you guys??? Did you hear the words?? There is NO medicine, therefore they are not going to buy bleach, soap, towels, and if you heard, there is NO water, only polluted,, so NO there is NO soap, broom, water, bleach or garbage bags,, capice??
There is medicine, water, etc., the government just doesn’t provide for it in the budget to supply it for free to the prison, so they have to buy it. As they say in the end, whether you live or die depends on how much money you have.
Amén 🙏
Yeah, they should be made to clean the place surely, even animal sheds way better

The fact that the Plague is still a problem there is absolutely terrifying and heartbreaking.
I would never go to that place with my band sugar britches. Who knows what could happen if I get into a situation with someone and I get locked up? Well I won't go there
Hello
No it isn’t
The plague is still a problem world-wide, but most all cases are found very early because the symptoms are very painful and require medical care. Because of the very early discovery rates of the plague it never has the chance to spread out of control. Many diseases that people think are eradicated are still very much alive and kicking and claim thousands of victims each year.
as long as there are fleas and flea-catching animals anywhere, the plague will still be able to exist
It’s crazy how in America the prisoners are the ones who make it really suck for each other
The prison politics is what makes US prisons dangerous😂

Not them, its their mothers who bore them into that world.
Even animals can't live there
It may not be their fault. They said rape is common here. Any ways why blame the mothers specifically, do you think the system should be allowed to hold babies (or do any one this) ?
The woman @25:40 is accused of fraud awaiting conviction, yet she has to bring her child to the prison who consequently gets sick.

And the saddest thing about all this is the fact that the most ruthless criminals will never see conditions like this. They live in the lap of luxury.
So many people in the Madagascar prison are innocent. They just get picked up or like that guy that had money he was thrown in jail because a judge wanted a couple hundred dollars!
@xtrmst_01 It wouldn't help much. Madagascar is one of the most corrupt places in the world.
@xtrmst_01 I know right! You could probably bail or bribe half of the people out for like $250,000. A lot for people like us, but many people could spend it without breaking a sweat. I wish people were nicer to each other
And I’d bet a quarter of these guys didn’t do anything. The judges and police threw them in there to extort them.
Any prison in the USA is going to look better than that human rights violation. Our jails are still terrible and ruthless criminals aren’t in any luxury.
