    To my feet, the ultimate non-crease sneaker is the reebok classic leather. Since nike upped price for AF1s, the reeboks classics are my best bang for buck sneaker. The Club 85 Classics are the models that I use. They even have some versions that they claim are full grain leather and others are tumbled leather (that may also be full grain but also tumbled). They do a number of different colour schemes and the descriptions vary a bit and it isn't clear if the copy writers got bored or the products are slightly different.
      I also own a number of pairs of premium sneakers from Artisan Lab and Loake as well as full grain leather Timberland sneakers but the Reeboks are worry free sneakers because they are comfortable and cheap enough that I don't care if something happens to them.

    My big concern is that most people would look at these, recognize them as an AF1, see no Nike branding, and just assume they were a budget knockoff like what you’d get from Phat Farm.
    I’m not exactly a sneakerhead, but I can’t imagine spending like 2x the amount of money on a pair of shoes that most people are going to think I copped for like $30-40 based on the design

    I understand what they are doing as well as your semi-endorsement of this shoe which I respect. But at the end of the day; if you look at the vast majority of the AF-1 buyers one of the biggest selling points is the convenience and familiarity of the AF-1. All age groups that purchase an AF-1 they don’t really put too much thought about this purchase. It’s a great general purpose shoe that goes with everything, easily accessible, and can be in your hands with a quick trip to the mall all for around $120+. Not only is it easily accessible; you don’t really have to care about maintaining it either. It’s a “careless” shoe for most ppl and you just go buy another one after wearing them to the ground. Another thing is they hold a solid place in the sneaker culture where you won’t get a “what are thoseeeeee” (if you care about that kind of a thing) it’s a known respected sneaker.

    Being practical and economical, the Govan loses in several categories. They're 2 × the price, the leather stains faster, the rubber soles appear to stain faster and wear faster. As you've said about working boots... you can buy 2 pairs of af1s and rotate them. For the price of 1 Govan

    • @sweettorello
      @sweettorello 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only difference I could see the govan being better is that since the leather is good quality you could change the soles over the shoes lifetime, extending the lifespan of the pair. If they introduce outsole sales then the shoe would easily last more than twice the af1's span.

    It’s funny every time you said Govan- in Scotland one of the most deprived areas of Glasgow has this name, once famous for its ship yards, it’s pronounced Guv’ un. It reminded me of an old comedy show we have in the UK. The husband was called Mr Bucket but the wife always pronounced it bouquet!

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Scots and Northern Irish were heavily involved in the tobacco and cotton plantations in the USA which is where cities like Glasgow and Belfast built much of their wealth.
      And many African slaves, when released, adopted the surnames of their plantation managers or even the names of the plantations where they worked, simply because they did not know their real names. That is why so many African Americans now have Scottish names and almost certainly the origin of the Govan name in this case.

    Hey my man, I have noticed something weird. So, I recently showed my wife your channel and she loves the cutting boots in half concept. Recently she has been into quality footwear as well, and she just bought herself a pair of Iron Rangers.
    Oddly enough, I think there is a HUGE quality disparity between men's and women's red wing heritage boots.
    They advertise a softer leather and a texon insole, however they don't mention what seems to be a non-leather welt on the heel, and a sole that is just glued on rather than nailed. I'm not sure if there are other shortcuts in their construction, as I can't afford to cut my wife's boots in half. But considering they are the same price, I can't see a justification for using cheaper materials.

    Part of the reason these are so expensive is that they are made in a 1st world country (Italy) with 1st world wages. You can get much cheaper high-quality sneaker-like shoes for around $100, but they will be made in SE Asia, like the Birchbury's which are made in Vietnam....

      No, it’s profit. These shoes MAYBE take $70 worth of materials, however govan is marking them up over 3-fold, this shoe if he wants to keep them competitive with a pair of AF1’s should sell for $150, because at the end of the day, this is just a slightly better leather AF1 with less durability in the sole ( which in a sneaker leather doesn’t really matter )

      Agreed! Our costs to make the shoes are almost 3x the cost due to manufacturing conditions we are proud of. We could have our sneakers made in Asia, but the conditions aren't as nice. Our markup is also lower than Nike, adidas etc...

    When looking at how good of a value something is I don't think that small business vs big business comes into the equation. If you prefer to support small businesses and are willing to spend more money to do so, great, but for an equivalent product and support you will be getting less value for your money. I typically prefer to support small businesses and I feel like they do often have good value in ways that big companies don't, better support, more customization, or sometimes just better quality. I think with shoes and boots there is very significant value in spending more money for something that is more comfortable, even if you end up with something that doesn't last as long as the price would indicate, but like many other things it depends on the use case.
    Based entirely on this video and what I mentioned above I would consider these worth it over the airforce ones and that is completely ignoring that it is a small company.

    Is funny how everyone forgot how the sneakers were back in the 80s and 90s. Almost every big Brand, Adidas, Nike, Kangaroos, Fila where made with a really big quality because they did last way longer and we destroyed them over time. And that leather stood up for the challenge! We deserve better!
