  • This is a short video specifically dealing with setting the play on the clutch pedal. In this video I've just estimated the clearance between the top of the pedal and the bottom of the footrest. The manual calls for this clearance to be 3/8" or 9.5mm, if you want to be exact, but this method works for me.

Great video. Thank you. I definitely have too much play on the pedal of my TEF.

Hi Gordon. We installed a clutch in a tea20. Problem is the clutch does not disengage. I'm wondering if we've replaced the release bearing fork back to front on the shaft thus not pushing the bearing hard enough on the clutch cover fingers to disengage the clutch.
We've tried all the settings you describe in this video.
We tested the clutch using the Starting Handle to turn the engine.

Hi, sorry to hear this. It’s quite difficult to get the release bearing fork the wrong way around, it would immediately look wrong. Could it be that you installed the pressure plate the wrong way around? This would cause the same symptom. Regardless I’m afraid it sounds like you will need to split the tractor again. ☹️ Sorry I know how frustrating this is. Keep me updated on what you find.

      @@WaterhouseForde I will Sir.
      It's all a learning process.
Which way round should the pressure plate be?
We were mindful that the short spline went engine side, IF memory serves!

@@09amusement Apologies - I said pressure plate and of course I meant the friction plate. I think you knew what I meant. Anyhow sounds like you had it the correct way around. If you place the friction plate against the flywheel - one way and then the other it will be obvious which way it should go. In the correct orientation the friction surface will mate with the wearing surface of the flywheel. The other way around it won't. The problem occurs when juggling the friction plate, the (heavy) pressure plate, the alignment tool a bolt or two and a spanner - all with just one pair of hands! It is so easy for the friction plate to get turned around. The problem is that because the friction plate has a spring centre it will allow you to bolt down the pressure plate and just conform under the pressure. Of course once you then get to operate the clutch assembly the belville spring arrangement in the pressure plate releases some of this pressure but not enough to release the clutch. I've done this myself in the past - it happens all too easily. If, when you open it up you find that this is the problem - please check your friction plate very carefully - make sure that it has not been permanently deformed. In my case it was fine and I was able to re-use it without any detrimental effect, but some are not as forgiving. If it lays flat (allowing for the centre spline boss) all the way round then it should be fine. Good luck - I hope you sort it out.
Our Fergie is now in storage - ready for the move - I'm frustrated we are not making any progress at the moment. It sounds like you are progressing well, despite this little set-back. 😉👍

@@WaterhouseForde After studying your Vids more closely I realized I hadn't adjusted the clutch and Shaft correctly. All is good now with excellent pedal. 👍
