A complete win for Buck and for all knife enthusiasts! Companies have to evolve with the times or be left in the past. I bought my father a replacement traditional 110 Hunter as a replacement for his lost/stolen 1980's era one and I'm going to pick up this one for myself!

A phenomenal knife - love it! I am a traditional guy and love the variety Buck is putting out. I only buy knives that avoid being fidgets - because knives are tools and not fidget spinners which is why my collection consists of Chris Reeve, GEC, Case and Buck (for my taste).

I threw all of those super steel knives I collected over the years in a box and grabbed a couple prime condition 3 dot 1980-81 110's. Thicker heavier squared off handles, 440C (last year for that) and all three are perfectly centered and more solid lock up than the newer models. I don't mind sheath carry. The sheath I got was from a leather guy in Montana and is a friction sheath without the over snap so easy to grab. I don't mind the sheath carry because it frees up my pockets.

I got the 112 version of this knife. I am partial to the Buck 112 because I bought my first one from the ship's store on the USS Constellation as my daily tool knife as a Deck Seaman back in the early 80's. I used to do a lot of rope splicing, marlinspike seamanship, rigging etc. so I used it a lot. It served me well and I still have that knife. I really like this Sport version because it is a lot lighter and I can carry it in my front pocket clipped without having to wear a sheath and it works in that fashion better than the 110. Mine opens easily with the flick of the thumb. When I was in the Navy, I got so used to the 112 and nimble with it. I am able to open and close it quickly. To me, it just feels so right because I used one so much so I really am delighted with this modern evolution of this legendary knife.

That’s a great story man. Awesome that you still have the knife you bought on the ship. Very cool.

@@DirkWerning Thanks! And to make it even better, it had the original ebony scales before the embargo and the more rare finger grooved grip. The original sheath is long gone and was wore out but Buck has replacement sheaths so I got one of those.

I am a classic kind of guy, I carry a 112 on my belt every day. But I like this knife. I think that Buck is doing a good job of thinking out side of the box, and to be competitive in the market they need to come out with knives like this. Not like they are quitting making the classic stuff.
And maybe it’s not for everyone, but I think I would like to get one. I really enjoy Buck’s knives, and have collected a few. So yeah I like it, and love the classics too.
    Thanks for the video.

It's more stepping into the modern knife world than out of the box. I've dreamed of a one hand opening 110 with a pocket clip. The light weight G10 didn't cut it. Too thin and wrong blade shape. This was exactly what I was wishing for.

It's an excellent user as well. I bought one for a collector peice myself and I had to order another because it quickly became my work knife. All the dependability of the traditional and so much easier to carry and use. I love the 2021 limited as well.

I currently have two Buck 110s. My original one has been "oversharpened" and the tip of the blade actually protrudes slightly above the the frame. That one's in my tool chest. My newer one is in my knife drawer upstairs. I've always carried my 110s in my front left pocket (I'm a lefty) rather than in the leather pouch. Needless to say, the first part of my jeans to go is holes in the front left pocket. Lately I've been carrying a SOG Aegis with the pocket clip. No problem, other than a serious lack of coolosity. I just ordered one of these new 110s "Sporties" with the lighter frame and the pocket clip. Waiting for it to arrive. Sure wish they'd drilled and tapped a couple extra holes on the other side for us left-handed folks. May have to have some custom work done by my machinist friend.
UPDATE: This thing is great. Holds an edge like you wouldn't believe. I'm glad I got it.

i mean there is a reason why we still dont drive the model T fords, just because they worked back than, doesnt mean things can’t get improved on, i love classics, but honestly each youtube video about a buck knife has a ton of 70 year old men that have owned the knofe for the past 60 years and say they dont like fidget spinners. But we know dam well if we gave them a benchmade back than with the updated features, specks and machinery they would have of course gone with that

Buck kinda dragged their feet to modernize the 110/112’s and their initial offerings with the hideous clips were a joke I thought. I got to handle this version at SMKW a week or so ago & was impressed (though I bought something else entirely - Protech Godson). It did linger in my mind however & now I have one coming in from DLT in the next day or so.
They were in a bit of a corner for awhile on modernizing with the critics saying ‘same old steels’ & ‘no innovative product releases’ but I think this variation will prove that patience pays off in the long run.
I also handled the new model 842 in S45VN which was impressive but just not three hundred dollars worth in my opinion. It’s good to see them innovate a bit though & I’d like to see some designers come on board with them. Time will tell. Just hope they never drop their classic offerings.

The tip of the blade hits the housing when closing and folds the cutting edge over to one side. Other tan that I like it. If your used to very well made knives your not going to like it.

I like it. I wish my 110 had a pocket clip, instead it has a really nice leather pouch which I cannot get myself to use so the 110 goes directly in the pocket. I thought mine was modern, cherry wood and a cpm20cv blade... but the 110 you are showing is very modern.
I have seen add on thumbs studs for Buck knives... and I was always leary... like... will they slide right off if I try them out? Are the thumbstuds on the knife that you showed... removable?

    • @DirkWerning

Clamp on thumb studs from a company called quick. I have clamp one on my standard 110 and never had any issues with sliding or damage to the blade. Thumb studs on the sport can be removed, but are a pin through (meant to be permanently attached) design so you won’t get them back on. If you have a 110 without studs, try ordering a clamp on stud for around $8 and see if you like it.
