When I installed new cabinets to expand the kitchen, I didn't know I could get matching cabinets a Lowe's!! You all let me know in the comments and this is one time I can say for sure that you all were right :) I felt pretty dumb not getting this right the first time, but after the last cabinets were installed I knew I'd have to at least get new matching doors. This was honestly the best solution I could've hoped for... next time I know to check both big box stores!! sometimes they have different stuff!

MODERN BUILDS
Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I think you should upload “boring” content. It’s still interesting and it is good for people to know what goes into renovating. I have done a few places and people don’t understand the work that goes into it because of the stuff they can’t see when it’s finished. You could even title it the boring stuff nobody sees
I'll keep this in mind!! Sometimes I feel under qualified to make a video on plumbing or electrical, but sharing a first-timers perspective and any failures could be a good resource still
@@ModernBuilds Hi Mike, As a soon-to-be first-timer it is this 'boring' stuff that I need to know, the big picture stuff and the big reveals are nice, but of no real practical help to me.
Keep up the good work, love your videos
Jim
Thank you everybody who pointed me in the right direction in the comments on the "my biggest mistake" video!! I thought I'd have to buy hickory doors to swap out and just make the other boxes/face frames "work", but this is way more SUPER PRO and was a relatively quick fix!!
Awww… my comment made the video :) glad we could help.
Lowe's is way better than home Depot and you're not supporting an awful company
if you wanted to change the cabinets, why did you go and get the same as the previous ones? I am surprised by your work!!!!!!
Well, didn't you realize that the previous ones were beautiful.
Yes, the biggest mistake is you always do something without thinking and then you regret it.
It is also useless.
It is okay to add this to your previous lessons. a lesson
For people interested in DIY, the process is just as interesting as the finished project. It’s all interesting for me. And exciting to see the transformation. I’d like to do my basement one day and this is inspiring.
Keep making these videos! Boring videos are still great videos. I consistently watch your videos before my DIY videos
That's cool to hear!! I was worried about this one haha!! I appreciate it
I'm glad you did the cabinets. Yes, it is a lot of work.
Bro, you're doing awesome. It's a lot to do all on your own (DIY, video record, and edit), and that is SUPERPRO!!! It's time to build a team, lol. But really, you're doing awesome and like others have said, put the boring stuff out as well.
Put a plug above the cabinet to the right of the fridge.
Young man, there is no need for any type of apology. I was missing your content, yes, but more than understand the process and your desire to create quality content. Keep up the excellent work, and I will keep watching.
Thanks for the support!!
The spot next to the fridge would make a good coffee nook.
I’d love seeing more content! Even short or “boring”. Definitely a creator I’m always excited to see what’s next and all the progress you make. Not just this project but all of them.
Just now watching the whole series. One thing I would put the refrigerator in the corner and the cabinet on the open end. Just my ideal.
I've got big build experience. This is oxygen for me. Thanks for sharing the fix.
Mike just upload timelapses. Saves you energy and we get content!
Dude you are doing so good with your level of experience and other projects.
Add another outlet near the counter top next to the fridge, that would make a great coffee bar, or to plug in a toaster.
Appreciating your videos! Tried to make one fixing a thing on my car and realised how much more time and effort it would take to get all the shots right to begin with, do the right repairs, do a voice over and cut it all. With no experience it would easily take 5x as much time. Keep up the good work :)
I don't think this is boring content. The more I watch the more I think I might be able to do something myself. I neec to have LVT in my other two rooms, I want cabinets that goes better with the new floors and I either want to paint the tub and tile or just getting new tiles or a tub insert.
Those new cabinets definitely look way better, Mike, good decision to swap them out!
Love this series and I really like that you show all the stuff you encounter on this renovation. This makes good content, imho!
Awwww MIKE WE LOVE YOU. YOU ARE DOING AMAZINGGG PLEASE CONTINUE TO UPLOAD ANYTHING THAT YOU RECORD. I WILLL LLO WATCH 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I’d like to see the pex. Plumbing and I just bought a fixer so yes please film the “boring stuff” I love it.
Dude! Love whatever content you put out because you are entertaining! Keep it up, and good luck finishing the house!
Looks a lot better! but i would have also exchanged the small high cabinet with the very contrasty horizontals.
Also I'd definitely like to see a video on the plumbing under the house!! Plumbing is one of the most intimidating types of diy project for me, and my house could definitely use it. Maybe that was more of a "hard to film" than "boring" problem though
Keep up the great content, we love it!!!
You are amazing!!! Your content is so informative as well as entertaining!! You definitely are a pro now. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Please show everything Mike, it really is interesting.
Make it take longer yes, but we would all enjoy watching those types of videos 9:05 and learn from it a lot. You could even make a side channel where you upload "not as popular content" and reference that in these videos. Thanks for the great content! SUPER PRO
That's something that might be a cool move, I saw another similar suggestion and it's got me considering something like that!
I'd love to see the "boring" content. It's all educational for me. Do you think you could add another outlet behind the fridge so the new counter top could be used as a coffee bar?
This is part of DIY. Keep on going.
Your Dad is power!!! It must be the Dad that everytime you call him says "iam on my way"!! Cheers to your Dad!!!😊
Especially in older homes, walls are never usually plumb. Experience is a great teacher!
Boring or exciting...you are always full of energy and enjoyable to watch. Your floor, and everything for that matter, has turned out so well. Great job!
I'm watching Mr. Fix it do the same thing as you. He bought an old house and now is renovating it. Try to film everything you do, these are my favorite kind of videos.
Honestly I wish you put the fridge on the wall with the back door because it seems like the kitchen work triangle would have been better and then the pantry could have been a little bigger. Just my feeling but you're doing great and I hope you keep that property because 5 acres with a work barn is amazing.
I actually like all the content you upload. This isn’t boring at all. :) keep on keeping on!
You could add an outlet to that countertop area next to the fridge and call it a coffee bar!
We miss you and your first flip. I definitely enjoy and get motivated to continue remodeling our first house. Good job!!
Mike, what are your thoughts on adding an outlet by the new lower fridge cabinet? That would be a great space for a coffee maker!
Mike keep up the great work. I really appreciate that you have given timeliness to completion on some of your videos, helps keep it in perspective.
I wish we had pre-made cabinets in the UK!!!
I actually found your channel because of this flip. I enjoy the videos and think you should do more. Also Idk you were in okc! That's awesome! I recently got into real estate and am on my third rental and hope to continue growing
You don’t need to yell. You seem stressed and strained when you are describing the content. Wewax!
You are doing so well. Don’t burn yourself out and ruin your vocal cords. Just tone it down a notch and don’t be so hard on yourself about content. We’re here to watch whatever you do on your builds.
You’re doing great man! Look forward to your videos and just take your time and keep making good videos man!
I really appreciate some of the things you've showed me I have learned from you don't ever think your content is below average because we learn from your mistakes
Thanks a ton!!!
I always learn . THANKS!
Before puttin in your backsplash and counters, install more electrical outlets - one double with USB connectors is not excessive. Also, in the counter next to the fridge, having an out let available to the counter space would allow that small space to be set up with a coffee bar or a microwave.
That's the plan!!! that's why I didn't mess with the drywall right there either during demo
Love the content and the personal investment. Happy Holidays.
i have watched every episode and love it so no apologies!
Man! I’m in Ada doing a flip right now. Looking to find one in okc myself. The market there is amazing. Good luck.
You’re doing great! Love your videos, the house Renovation is awesome.
Nice tip! So nice that they are pre-finished! Wondering if flipping the frig and the cabinets may be helpful. That way there is a counter space towards the kitchen direction. I can see it being nice to set things on when taking items in and out of the frig. Just a thought.
Love watching you on this journey. Great content.
It'd be interesting to see all those annoying problems solved as well. Keep it up, it'll look awesome in the end, i can feel it :)
I would love to see you move the electrical panel. I’m in the same boat.
Show it all man! Would love to see the other nitty gritty styff that goes into renovating. Thanks for the great content!
love your videos, the house Reno is awesome
No worries, You're doing a great job! You're are one of the few TH-camr I look forward to.
Thanks!!! That's awesome :)
My thoughts on DIY videos is, you never know when you might need to know how to do something, so if we see it in a video we will have already have an idea when the need arises. Your videos have always been imformative and interesting and enjoyable to watch. And i have no plans on doing any house renos. But still watch and enjoy. Xx
Show everything! Only going to help us DIYERs tackle tough projects on our own and save money
Honestly for homeowners who have to fix stuff some of that boring stuff becomes interesting. Like the water heater situation. I want to go tankless and I’m curious how it gets done.
I get it how hard it is to film everything especially in small spaces like under the house and utility rooms but I 🙋 would enjoy such content.
The flip is looking good, kid! looking forward to seeing the next one.
Awesome that it worked out :D
I think it's all great content and a great story! Keep it up
You are doing a great job !
I'd certainly be interested in the hot water tank(less) video and agree with others I'd enjoy the other videos as well!
Awesome work!
The cabinets are looking nice Mike
I think those things would be interesting to watch ... Do vlog style for the things that you don't think are interesting and you would surprised
it's interesting for sure. I guess I'm bad at seeing the stuff that isn't quite perfect. keep that in mind for future projects, not everyone is a perfectionist.
Looks 🔥🔥🔥
Huge welcome to daddy 🎉🎉
Everything you mentioned would be great content. Thats why we're here, silly.
An outlet in the new counter next to the fridge would make it work well/give it a purpose.
Question…hey, why not install kitchen upper cabinet flush to the ceiling?! That space is a pain to clean over the years…
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💙Pop's to the rescue ❣️
This proves that positive comments help everyone. Trolls waste time
Way better 👍
You could do a miscellaneous build video of all the extra things you've done to the house. All those small one off projects can add up to one good video. I'm sure it'll help some in knowing all the extra little things that one might not expect.
Thanks for the update Mike, glad to see your still working on "Mike's First Flip"
I’m not sure I would call it “super modern” but it does look way better than before. Glad you went back and fixed your mistake
Yeah you're right!!! A little more traditional than what I'd do for myself but and improvement for sure
Ummm…can we talk about that sweet AF Ford you took to Lowe’s? 😍😍😍
I'll do a video painting it and a quick makeover when I'm done with the house... I'm excited!!
Would love to how you move the electric panel
8:19 I would definitely not call this super modern! In Europe this would be really old-style.
I would have done an IKEA kitchen and avoid all these problems and bring up the value because they just look better
Nice work Mike & those cabinets turned out looking great! I will say it again, my 2 cents is that you sell the house when you finish the renovation and move on to another property if that's what you want to do. From experience, I can tell you that renting is a real hassle for a lot of reasons that I won't get into here. Anyway, keep up the great work that you are doing on that house. 👍👍
I'm thinking of having a realtor come in to appraise and then I'll compare potential selling and rental rates and see what's the best move short and long term
GO DAD
I was really expecting you to say a big thank you to our sponsor…. Lowes. 😀
nope but they saved the day!!!
I don’t mind seeing it all
9 months already? It feels like it was yesterday!
Plus, Home Depot is your sponsor, not Lowes.
Show me the "boring" stuff! It helps us learn how to do stuff.
Great job ... I think you should sell it. Dealing with renters can be a nightmare sometimes. You have to hope they pay the rent every month and hope they don't destroy the place. Sell it and take the money and move on to something else. Can't wait for new videos
Ya
I open stuff up at Lowe's all the time lol. It don't matter
😂
9:47; those are significant issues that deserve videos of their own...
Not a fan of the ''wood'' luck. You should paint it in some modern color :)
The most dramatic thing about this remodel is the housing market going from fire at beginning to in the toilet once he is ready to sell
Has anyone already written that he has a «nice caulk»?
Mike, we're cheating on Home Depot 🤣🤣
New cabinets look so much better! Side note: Make a second channel for “boring” content. You’d be shocked how many followers you’ll get. House looks great.
That could be a good use of all those clips!! Kinda vlog style
❤❤❤
