    MODERN BUILDS
    Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

    Cut the twist handle off so it’s only about 8” long. Leave a cheap drill right next to the shade. Pop the handle into the drill chuck when you want to raise it or lower it. voila…powered shade!

    2:10 looks awesome but the fridge must be away from the wall a few more inches so the air can go through the radiator and out. Otherwise the fridge will run longer (using more electricity and heating more the room).

    • @Pouckie90
      @Pouckie90 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, this fridge has almost no space left to vent the heat to. It's a shame because I love the rest of the video.

    Plant advice incoming! Monstera Deliciosa likes to climb. In nature, you usually see then climbing up trees. Yours would LOVE support. Not only will it help keep it from sprawling horizontally, you’ll eventually start to see the leaves size up and see more fenestrations (the slits and holes… that’s what she said).
    You can buy moss poles on Amazon. You can use floral tape to tie it to the pole or they also make these plant Velcro strips that are nice because it won’t “bite” into the plant. Another option is a plank (most use cedar because it’s slower to rot). There’s a bunch about “plants on planks” on YT. I could totally see you putting a twist on it and making something super unique!
    Love seeing your projects! And your plants! ❤

    Long time fan the house looks great. I have been told that if you refrigerator has those coils in the back if will need the gap to exchange heat. I could be wrong but please check.

  • @mariannerady1137
    @mariannerady1137 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Great DIYs, your space looks fab!
    A tip for your monstera: add a support beam in the middle and attach the leaves with some sisal rope or plant staples. When the leaves have sth to hold on to, they feel stable and grow taller rather than flop over.
    Also maybe wipe your camera lense, these 3 dark spots have already been there for the last few videos 😅huge love my friend

  • @kaileighwilcox1530
    @kaileighwilcox1530 ปีที่แล้ว

    Add a stake for your monstera! They are climbing plants. It will make your plant happy and help it look more attractive.

  • @katealber
    @katealber ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A moss pole would be great for the monstera since it needs something to climb as it grows! :) Love the DIY pant stand!

  • @TeeVeeZed123

    Replace the roller shade with a pull down version on tracks, that way you it will not flap around and you can lower/raise it to whatever height you want it at, or a motorised version on tracks.

  • @ray7351
    @ray7351 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    with the dart board it will be better to drill small holes for the darts to slide the sharp edge in instead of the ceramic cup you might blunt them

  • @MyDroneFilms

    For your sun shade you could just attach a drill to a straight rod with a hook at the end to raise and lower it. We’ve got something similar at work

  • @Omni11B
    @Omni11B ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I typically love your stuff. But please learn caulk is applied with a push and the finger is to tool it into the gap better and ensure no big air pockets behind it. Then we come to the ant stand, you could definitely do better the legs weren't even on the same plane. And lastly wtf was the brita stand? Cups exposed to tons of dirt and dust with the opening up and collecting it all for you to add water to. Please either flip the glasses or build something within your skill set that actually makes sense. Other than that I'm completely jealous of the arch table and the leaf table. For different reasons as they are completely different in every aspect. Thanks for the video your hard work is definitely appreciated just wish you didn't mail it in on those things.

  • @oodles86
    @oodles86 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could attach a drill motor or something to that shade, and wire it from the house with a switch.

  • @volksbugly
    @volksbugly ปีที่แล้ว +6

    idea on your roller shade: order a shade a few inches longer. Then add another width of board around the edge so you can encapsulate the shade on the sides. This will keep more wind out and make it not flop whatever height you have it at. :) Awesome projects and giving me all kinds of ideas! Thanks!

    Your monstera plant will "crawl" unless you provide a pole or trellis to help it grow upright- and the sooner the better. They need time to adjust but it will be a much happier plant with some supports.

    Looking so much better!
    As for the monstera, it wants to climb and will keep flopping over without support. There are lots of awesome options (trellis, moss poles, wooden planks) and plenty of YT videos to figure out which one would be best for you. Kill this plant has some good videos on this.

    I guess i'm confused by a few things. Why not build a fridge casing that matches the kitchen cabinets, but just tall enough to cover the top? Wouldn't that look intentional and still be functional for plants? Why hide the screws of the dart wood with glue and a dowel? Wouldn't that be more difficult to take off if you decide to eventually move it?

  • @volksbugly

    Blocking the top and bottom of your fridge will make your fridge work harder / less efficient or will even make it stop working altogether. The backside has a radiator and needs ventilation not unlike your car radiator. Restricting the airflow means that your fridge cannot dump the heat it produces cooling your food.
