I am a retired woodworker and tool & die maker of over fifty years experience. Part of my job at one time was making one of a kind, custom furniture for General officers. Who ever told you that you are not a woodworker does not know what they are talking about and should be ignored. Continue doing what you love and stay safe. Nice table by the way.
It was absolutely fascinating to watch all the steps in this build. Great concepts make great art. And I think the world needs more 'makers'. We are the world!
When you “tripped” and appeared to destroy that panel I actually screamed in empathy, then laughed and cursed a bit when it was a prank. Well played! And you are definitely a maker/creator/woodworker, this is gorgeous.
This was easily the coolest slab table I have seen anyone make. I'm not a woodworker, although I've pounded pieces together for various items, but I enjoy watching what other people are capable of. Combining the traditional Japanese technique with a slab table was a great idea and turned out beautiful. And i admire your altruism and this clearly meant a lot to your wife. Great work, super creative and a beautiful soul. Thanks.
He should have turned it into a feature instead of a patch. Choosing a unique, maybe more organic shape, mimik the japanese technique or even add a metal piece would have made it better. I would ask to redo that part and come up with something better. Even though it's for a good cause and it should be allowed to have imperfections to also show in the piece itself, that we are all valuable, I still don't like the way it's handled. Even our imperfections need to be properly cared for, for example people need to be given the right job, that they can enjoy with their capabilities, or provided the right tools, if they need special adjustments for example. It matters how we treat imperfections and we should provide the required care. He showed it 2-3 times towards the end, but the end result, when everything was polished etc. it didn't look good anymore. I would even have loved to keep the imperfection as it was at the beginning. Maybe filling it with clear epoxy would have done the job.
Brother, your wife is a keeper. You hit the lotto in the spouse department! She seems like an absolute delight to be around and I could tell she was humbled when you told her the proceeds were going to charity. She’s a rare gem!
It was so unnecessary to hint in the beginning that she might be getting this table, building up expectations only to then take it away for a "better cause". There was no need to emotionally play with her like that.
@@thornyback I agree, if somebody wants to give money to charity, that´s awesome and if you know your spouse likes that kind of present and does not need the table - still awesome, go for it. But while I don´t know these people, just judging from the video, to me that gift felt more like a gift to himself than a gift for his partner. If it was a gift he could have asked her which good cause she actually wants to support with the money in her name. The way it was portrayed felt more like "Yeah I finally did this fun project I was looking forward to for ages and then I found this good cause *I* wanted to support, and then I realized I don´t have a present for my wife yet and here we are". Good intentions, really weird execution. But maybe they actually did communicate beforehand and it was her idea, so idk :D Also very nice table :)
My brother sent me a Rumi poem. He was a great poet and philosopher. I explained to him that it was impossible to have another person like him because of his vast knowledge of literature and philosophy and the way he saw the universe. After seeing your table, I would say you are the Rumi of furniture design and fabrication. Unbelievable talent.
Wow! Congratulations! My mom’s Japanese-inspired house had Kamiko in panels in the bedroom, ceiling areas and living room. It was stunning. I never knew what it was called, though! The architect designed and built it in about 1965. Totally normal for Hawaii homes. Good luck on finding a buyer.
Being an art teacher in RI I was just mesmerized watching you build this Thank you for being such a kind person in Using your skills to help such a great cause❤️.
Now that is an incredible wife. I doubt, no I know I would never had been as thrilled you were giving my gift to someone else. How cool is she and that was an incredible gift from the both of you!
A wife is incredible when she's okay with not getting a Christmas gift? Yeah, checks out. A donation is amazing, there's no doubt. And I would be so happy if my partner made a donation in my name. But to call it a Christmas gift is a little weird. Like, I don't need much, even if I just get a shoulder rub as a gift for Christmas, doesn't even need to cost anything. But you can't really call making your wife give something to someone else (even for charity) a gift lol. Then she gets the chair he won't use, and looks as happy as if he especially made it for her. She's a sweetheart... sigh.
We are the world!!! My late husband was a carpenter all his life. You and your family are truly blessed and you are a blessing to those of us who appreciate your hard work!!! ❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏
Works of art always take time. When i was making picture frames i was told "Theres never enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it over." The things you create are a work of art enjoy them.
Of the millions of hours I spend watching youtube and all the tables, projects, etc. I can truly say this is the most beautiful table I have seen yet. I for one am glad that you made the transition into youtube full time and continue to inspire all of us. Cant wait to see what you bring us next year!

We are the world. Holy cow! I’m absolutely gobsmacked. You have made something that I would never attempt and made it well. I have made luminous before, and there is no way I would ever take on a piece that large. I’m also 73 years old and don’t have the time, but you my young friend have done a splendid job. Kudos.
"Hello Darkness my old friend..." That black and white edit was comedic relief done to perfection 😂👌 Also, "we are the world" I watched till the end because your combination of skills and tools to make the most perfect epoxy table was awe inspiring to say the least. I shed a tear to the fact that the charity you donated to exists. Thanks for shining your light to the world 🌎🌟🌍 one table at a time!
The inlay process and meshing it with the live edges was awesome! Learned some things and enjoyed the process. We need a “we are the 🌎 world” TH-cam version with you and Mike and others doing karaoke 🎤. I’m sure it would raise millions 😂
The kumiko inlay is insanely awesome! And that base is insanely awesome! They are insanely horrible together! Lol. Obviously this is just the opinion of some random guy on YT, but I can’t make my brain accept those bold, swooping base lines with the crisp angles and subtle curves of the top. Still love your work, your originality, your effort, determination, passion, and all that you bring to this subculture! You are an inspiration! Thanks for putting this out there knowing guys like me would have something to say. You are braver than I.
I respect you were able criticise this table. So often on TH-cam you watch a guy work so hard making a piece that in the end looks awful. Your criticism was viable but without any nastiness.
An extraordinarily beautiful table. You - together with your entire eclectic band of tools, skills, advisers and whatnots 😄😄 - have outdone yourself, Jonny. A truly generous and charitable gift from your wife, who was obviously humbled by the experience. Whoever ends up buying the table will have the best looking table. EVER! I just love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
You made a beautiful table again. Your wife, even though she wants a new table, was so happy with your decision to sell it and donate all the money in her name. She seems very pleased with the chair also. Your baby is adorable too. The Amish people always make an intentional small imperfection in their work because they say only God can make anything perfect. ❤
Such a heartwarming video, Jonny! 💖 Your talent in setting a stunning table is matched only by your generosity in donating to charity. It's truly inspiring to see creators like you making a positive impact. Your commitment to giving back echoes the sentiment of 'we are the world.' I watched the entire video, and the fusion of creativity and kindness is truly uplifting. Kudos to you for using your platform to make a difference!🌍💙
I'm generally not a fan of epoxy tables but I am a fan of you and your creativity and fun/positive attitude. That being said, I absolutely LOVE this table! It's one of my favorite things that I've ever watched you build.
You are totally one of the greatest Wood worker in the world, Jon. This is a masterpiece. And you do it for charity, that's makes the triple awesome. Congrats Jon.
The table is gorgeous! And the fact that you are donating the proceeds to such an amazing charity literally brought me to tears. What a wonderful thing to do. Also, subscribed.
Wood worker or maker how ever you look at it..that’s an absolute beautiful piece of work. That wood is stunning and that inlay I love. Great job Jonny!!!!
I might be the only one but here goes…I love the intricacy of the inlay but not in the river of epoxy. It’s very busy and hides the beauty of the wood cutout and epoxy. For me, natural wood slab tables with epoxy is in a class by itself and gorgeous as well. It’s like a glass river of your choice of color. I think the base is spectacular!
Johnny, with all due respect for the time and creativity you put into this table and your generosity to others, your little girl who you held in your arms at the end of the presentation is the absolutely most beautiful and best creation you are gifted with! God bless you and your sweet wife and precious child with abundant happiness as you love, nurture and guide her to follow in your footsteps.
Very, no, extremely well-done Jonny! As a 'maker' of 50 plus years (and I'm a bit older), mostly with metal in mid-50's vehicles and retiring as a master mechanic, I LOVE seeing you USE your many skills and tools MAKING! 😍💕
You are a fantastic artist and visionary mate! To constantly go outside of your comfort zone and test the limits of your skills and knowledge is what in the end will let your creations stand the test of time! Keep pushing and keep making!

This table is amazing!! Especially for your first big kumiko project. Glad you found the sled and jigs were helpful in making it happen. I've been thinking of making a kumiko slab table for a while, and now it's moved up the list. By the way, you have a cool name too 😉
Possibly the only time I've seen epoxy used in a way that actually looks good, doesn't look cheap and doesn't ruin the amazing look that is pure wood. Well done sir!
Johnny boy. You are truly living my dream doing what you do. We have so much in common. But I have a new dream now! To be your apprentice! Love your stuff, and that table is a masterpiece! Truly amazing and holy crap!...I could stare at that for days! Whoever can afford to buy it sure is lucky! Keep it up brotha! 😊
We are the world! Loved the whole video - your brilliant eclectic approach and use of tools and materials. Can't wait to watch more of your videos. Thanks
Definitely my favorite video yet. I hate using epoxy for river pours but this was wonderfully executed. The way you conducted the symphony of tools to make this masterpiece is super awesome and it is even better that its purpose will be to help disabled woodworkers. A true inspiration especially because you're not even a woodworker. 🤓
Awesome build! You have my respect and admiration for all the work and detail you put into this project. I noticed the Marine Corps flag on your wall that makes me suspect you are a brother Marine. Semper Fi, brother! By the way, just a little FYI: Epoxy resin can degrade and break down from UV rays from the sun if not covered with a coating that contains UV protection such as certain paints or if left bright, a good quality marine grade spar varnish (several coats) that contains such UV protection. I've been working with epoxies for many years (used to have a wooden boat shop on Cape Cod). Heat is also an enemy of epoxy (gets soft and loses strength). 👍👍👍
Having lived in Japan for 5 years as a young adult, I am appreciative of the work done in this piece. My father used to tell us , "I am not ashamed of our advancing technology. I am ashamed of many of the ways we have used it." I believe he would be proud of the use you have used in building this table. "We Are The World"
That table is one of the most beautiful pieces of art I’ve ever seen. Congratulations. You should be very proud of it! Will you eventually tell us how much you were able to give to charity? 🧡🧡🧡
First time watcher, sitting here stunned at the beauty and artistry of the work you have created in this video. Not a woodworker, HUMPH! I am not a woodworker, just appreciator- my medium is more fiber/paint/everything you can buy at Michaels and JoAnn fabrics. Oh, and "We are the world".
Funny, Yesterday I was just asking myself when the next Jonny Builds video would be released - it's been almost a month so I knew it was going to be EPIC as always! Hope you had a good holiday period Jonny!
Man, everytime I think my skills as a 'maker' have improved by being able to actually cut a piece of wood straight I come across a guy like you with a skill level that is just unimaginable. Awesome idea, awesome table, and awesome cause!
your cause. your Generosity. your passion. your patience. your craftsmanship left me speechless. God Bless you and your family. GORGEOUS Table . this is a serious talent you have working with different materials. machines.and tools. KUDOS..
Question, would you do this style again? Have you heard of Makers Central? I also think you are a woodworker. I love your pieces and I think you are an extreme woodworker. You are an artist who works with wood and resin. Great work and Happy New Year!🎉😊
I was skeptical it would look good even up to the end, but once you put the top coat on and gave it that semi gloss sheen it really looks great! The base makes it pop too. It has a star trek feel to me like it should be in Picard's ready room.
It is strikingly beautiful but as you mention star trek - the kumiko insert evokes those episodes where there is a partial failure of the hologrid and the characters discover they are in a simulation.
A table with purpose. I loved your wife's reaction when you revealed what you were doing in her name. I hope the person who purchases it will enjoy it even more that I enjoyed watching you make it. Keep up the good work.
Please make sure to film as you make him believe it's a gift he can keep, only to be told he can't. To top it all off, give him a single half-ass chair that he can keep.
Lucas , just because you don't have a partner that truly appreciates a gesture like this does not mean that nobody else does. Selfishness is the true root of all evil, and your comment betrays your inward thinking mentality. You don't know him nor his wife, this may very well be the best gift they could give one another. You know nothing of their relationship. Maybe she has a sibling or child with a disability and that charity means the world to her. In any case , your unevolved way of thinking is a problem most of us have. Try to elevate your self-awareness and think more of others' needs rather than your wants.
Im so damn impressed and envious that it actually hurts. Your attitude towards your work and your multitude of methods, your creativity, your workshop, your materials. You are literally the exact kind of maker i dream to be. Regarding the table i disagree with most of your design choices and i still think the result is absolutely exquisite. Bravo!
When you say something like that, you're really just telling us you're a schmuck who married a woman who would put him in the doghouse, and who would LET her put him in the doghouse. I paid for the bed. If my wife is ever that unhappy with me, SHE can go sleep in the doghouse. We tested this once eighteen years ago, and oddly enough she hasn't ever gotten that unhappy with me since. Go figure.
OMG , this is the most beautiful table that I have ever seen in my life!!!! You are a real master craftsman and the love you show for your family is so, so touching 😍😍😍😍😍😍
🤔Sooo? If you're giving the chair to your wife, will you 3-d print and customize the chair just for her? You don't have to show the scanning, but I would like to see how you input the scan and make it cut the seat just for her. Have you even told her that she would be a pioneer in future chair technology? 💖🌞🌵😷
Don't build up your wife's expectations for this piece only then to 'reveal' that you are giving it away. That was a completely unnecessary and cruel detour on your part. Leave your wife out of it.
“We are the world” I had to watch to the very end because I wanted to view this masterpiece. You are a creative genius. As someone who cannot do anything if it takes more than a day to finish, I watch your videos with utter amazement!
You have to Thank God for the gifts given to You: maker, story teller, positive soul, patience, good husband, hard worker....but above all that the most important gift " A Big heart"
Indeed Jonny, you are a maker, designer, woodworker. Artist ! While I've not been a fan of epoxy fills, this one has done huge to changes my mindset, and per your closing request... We are the World !!

I wholeheartedly agree with you Martin...!!! LOL Damn near choked on my tongue and went into a tirade that brought my wife running trying to see what was wrong. Was good craic, though... and I'm SO glad it was a joke...! Well played, Jonny... well played, indeed. 😎
Nearly choked on my coffee but instead kind of spurted it over my keyboard. Well done - you got me. Oh and the table is exquisite. We are the World.
It's probably the first time in my life when I can say thank you for your spoiler 😅
I felt so bad for him when 'he dropped it'. 🤦♂️
As a person with an "unseen" or "invisible" disability, I truly appreciate all the work that went into this "We are the world" table and the donation you are making. What a truly amazing gift. And that sweet baby girl is adorable!
🙏❤️🙏
We are the world
I would be so happy if one day i could afford one of your custom tables and pass it down to my children. The work that goes into it is truly amazing and should be treasured for generations to come!
Jonny I can’t thank you enough for supporting our charity and helping get resources to those who need it most. This beautiful build will be a lifetime piece for some lucky person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I was "Nooooo not after all his hard work," then 😂🤣
I rewatched that part over and over and it looks so real... I almost cried before you told us "kidding"
I screamed and scared my three cats!!! 😱😱😱😂😂😂 I was so happy when he said it was a prank!!! 🤪🤪🤪
Thanks.
"We Are The World "! What an incredible work of art and even more amazing that you are donating the proceeds to a worthy charity!❤❤❤
I don’t care what anyone else says, that patch job on that big ass knot was impeccable. So clean. Love it
I'm usually easily bothered by inconsistencies in patterns, and even I found it aesthetically pleasing. ☺
Very nicely done. You can barely, & I mean BARELY, tell the difference. Great job on the patch.
@@meridian6265agreed!
Your wife's reaction to her gift was so sweet. What a lovely lady.
Did she even have a word to say in all this??? NO
This is another one of those guys that has such a strong work ethic that seems to come just as much from doing the work itself as from the money...
You work with wood ! You’re a woodworker! Adapting all the tools at your disposal and creating beautiful art ! Kudos 😁
I have seen hundreds of tables made by TH-cam makers at this point, and this, quite possibly, is my favorite. Wow. Amazing art!
It feels like the base style clashes with the table top, but the inlays came out way better than I was expecting.
He built houses from frame in to finish, but his love was creating beautiful pieces from scrap wood… you are a wood worker, carpenter and creator of nature’s beautiful creations. You take natural materials and create beautiful works of art for people to enjoy!!! I love that you donated the proceeds to a wonderful organization !!!
The trolls that complained you are not a woodworker are right, you are a Maker, a Maker of beautiful furniture, this table is exceptionally beautiful the timber choice is spot on, and what a great thing to offer it's sale proceeds to charity, with all the crazy stuff going on in the US currently we need more people like you in this world.
We are the world. Holy cow! I’m absolutely gobsmacked. You have made something that I would never attempt and made it well. I have made luminous before, and there is no way I would ever take on a piece that large. I’m also 73 years old and don’t have the time, but you my young friend have done a splendid job. Kudos.
Thank you 🙏
@@JonnyBuilds *kumikos not luminous
I am stund! This table and the donation of the proceeds to charity have brought tears to my eyes. Your work is absolutely beautiful!!!! ❤
😂😂😂
"we are the world" and I'm begging you NOOOO!!!! LMFAO
We Are the World!!
I'm with you I think if the pieces of wood where the same color as the table not just plain wood it would be better
It's called Wabi-sabi; an appreciation of the beauty in imperfection.
This table has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of art I have ever seen - truly stunning! You are such a talented Maker!
Charlie looked very happy with the way the table looked. You do awesome work.
I'm generally not a fan of epoxy tables but I am a fan of you and your creativity and fun/positive attitude. That being said, I absolutely LOVE this table! It's one of my favorite things that I've ever watched you build.
There are no words to describe the beauty of this table and the skill you have to execute it. So a simple : " Well done Johnny" will have to suffice.
Oh, my gosh dude, that build was brilliant! It's stunning. How generous of you and your wife to donate it to charity. Well done!
I love that table. We are the world.
True. She is as gorgeous as your first sweet girl. 🇬🇧🕊👑✝️👑🕊🇬🇧
Thanks for sharing, you keep raising the bar on yourself! Beautiful piece!
I appreciate that!
Mabey you are saving the environment.
Brother, forget about what people say in the comments, we making a table here.
Chill out people and appreciate the down to earth work.
This is your best work ever! You can see it was made for a special purpose and with love. Hats off to you for all the effort you put into this and I admire you for this. Lots of greetings and love from Cape Town, South African 🇿🇦
This table is amazing!! Especially for your first big kumiko project. Glad you found the sled and jigs were helpful in making it happen. I've been thinking of making a kumiko slab table for a while, and now it's moved up the list. By the way, you have a cool name too 😉
Thanks for the tips!
I like the way you melded your aesthetics with the aesthetics of the kamiko to create a unique contemporary piece
It’s gorgeous. Has so many different qualities. Modern, ancient, farmhouse. It would fit in almost any decor. You really are quite the artist.
That table turned out stunning! Such a beautiful piece, wow! Whoever gets it will be lucky, and the money is going to such a sweet and good cause!
Thanks
Loved your project and your good mood! We could use more of that theses days.
Stunning work!!! And I love your wife’s reaction that you were going to donate it in her name!!! 🥰
We are the world, and your artistry is great
....and your heart is too! I think it's awesome that you're donating ALL the proceeds!
I loved your paper into wood project, and hope you do more! The colors were amazing!
Love the News Paper Table. Hope you do More.
The legs were Perfect.
The Texture , Everything .
WOW !
Something New ,and Beautiful !
I work in similar medium as you. It puts us in the maker category.
Funny, Yesterday I was just asking myself when the next Jonny Builds video would be released - it's been almost a month so I knew it was going to be EPIC as always! Hope you had a good holiday period Jonny!
🙏🙏🙏
Man, everytime I think my skills as a 'maker' have improved by being able to actually cut a piece of wood straight I come across a guy like you with a skill level that is just unimaginable. Awesome idea, awesome table, and awesome cause!
I give this marriage 2 years
Looks like the wife wanted the table
your cause. your Generosity. your passion. your patience. your craftsmanship left me speechless.
@@DeclanMBrennan Such a great series!
A table with purpose. I loved your wife's reaction when you revealed what you were doing in her name. I hope the person who purchases it will enjoy it even more that I enjoyed watching you make it. Keep up the good work.
I'm making you a gift that I'm giving to someone else. Your welcome.
Bravo!
Best table I’ve seen crafted on the internet yet. Absolutely stunning and wonderful idea to help out a great cause.
@paskmakes would be proud.
Yup
He built a nice doghouse to sleep in after giving away the table his wife thought was for her.
I'm not sure if she liked her "gift" lmfao 😅
"We Are The World"...thanks for helping others. Beautiful job!!
The hand work that you put into this was amazing. Thank you for sharing. The finished work is beautiful! .
We are the world…and you make it a better place to be in Johnny! Thank you so much for sharing your maker work with us.
A real genuine craftsman, you are the pinnacle of the art. Many thanks for showing how it’s done.
You have to Thank God for the gifts given to You: maker, story teller, positive soul, patience, good husband, hard worker....but above all that the most important gift " A Big heart"
Absolutely beautiful table, thanks for sharing! And Bruce Springsteen…I agree!!
What's the deal with that Bruce Springsteen thing? It feels like there must be a story behind that.
Indeed Jonny, you are a maker, designer, woodworker. Artist ! While I've not been a fan of epoxy fills, this one has done huge to changes my mindset, and per your closing request... We are the World !!
