I know. I get goose bumps every time I watch this dame scene!
Everytime i saw it over the last decade gave me goosebumps!
No time for caution.
- "what are you doing?"
- "Docking"
... --> kind of mindset
It's not just that he made the decision it's that he clearly knew it was necessary before he saw what the impact of the failed docking procedure was - he back off, then geared up for a run in ready to dock with the remains if there were any. After all, the alternative is 'starve on an uninhabitable planet' so it's more that he is pessimistic enough to think through the alternative.
"It's Not Possible." "No, It's Necessary." This Movie Is Ridiculously Goated

Exceptional comment
It's coming back in IMAX in September!!!
Yes!
Love the detail of the more experienced pilot keeping his head in the correct position whereas the more inexperienced does not and it causes them to black out. Excellent attention to detail.
Well....this is called "writing" ... a relic modern films know nothing about.
Also, sooooo many movies about space have sound effects OUTSIDE the spaceship/space station! The director of "Interstellar" understood science. There is no sound when the explosion occurs because they are in space. Space by definition is a vacuum so you won't hear anything. I haven't seen this much attention to detail since "2001".
@@thesciguy4823oh please. There are plenty of good movies that come out today. People used to say the same thing about movies back in the 90s. It’s the never ending flow of time. Where every generation constantly believes that they are the last good one.

@@ArchTeryx00 Don’t judge me Arch, you were not tested like I was 😂 Actually they mention Mann was the best of them who inspired a lot of people.
@@Nasirmah Mann didn't start out evil. He went mad from homesickness, on a completely unsuitable planet for human colonization. By the time Cooper found him he was willing to do anything, including murder, to get home. The whole scene showed just how insane he was, since he knew the Ranger was not properly docked, and bulled forward until he hit the china shop full on.
What a brilliant scene. The background score by Hans 🙏🫡
I heard especially this part of the score has been edited but someone else afterwards to make it even more dramatic.
The music is 90% of what makes this scene epic!
There’s a background film to this front and center masterpiece of music.
Mr Zimmer to you
Kinda hard to believe this year is the 10th anniversary of Interstellar. Still one of my favorite films, and one of the few films i went to the theater twice to see.
Seeing it in large format is still one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had at the theater. The sound/score was just incredible (like most Nolan blockbuster films), but No Time For Caution was just the pinnacle!
exactly the same for me
I chose to wait and watch it on BD, I seriously regret that decision. Hoping a cinema here in the Netherlands will show it for the tenth anniversary.
one of the best scenes ever filmed in movie history
Not filmed though. Right? ❤
@@davidjoseph3403 They use IMAX camera which still uses film. Noland is still on of the few directors to get studios to spend money on film.

Quite possibly the best scene the whole movie. The moment that humanity dies or has a chance.

That's hans Zimmer alright
To think that Dr. Mann was unable to manually dock with the Endurance while it was stationary, and moments later Cooper and TARS were able to do it while it was spinning at 68 rotations per minute and plummeting toward the planet with no heat shield to protect it from incineration. Absolutely heroic feat.
Cooper had plot armor. To think the Endurance would only start spinning as a fan and not add any other different rotations... And then, when he docked, it´s hard to believe such big mass of moving metal would stop spinning, because he used thrusters on his shuttle (designed to only move the shuttle around and not such large station) without obliterating the hatch they were docked at... Lastly, as they fired the main engines, they should´ve started spinning the whole station in a different way instead of moving it out of atmosphere.
To finish it off, why such large ship does not have its own stabilizing computer? Even with the destroyed part, it would be fairly easy for it to recognize its own speed of spin, descend, etc. and take appropriate measures to stabilize itself.
Too much fiction, not enough science.
It´s in the movie, because it looks cool.
Only great thing about this movie is the music. Simple, yet very enjoyable.
@@Morpheus-pt3wq funny you should say that, as this film is actually hailed as being among the most scientifically accurate scifi films in the last 20 years. It even had the foremost theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne, directly consult on the film so the science/theoretical science in the film was at least reasonably sound, although of course liberties will be taken for the sake of the story. There is plot armor riddled throughout almost every film out there, so I seldom use that to undermine the other strengths of the film.
@@Morpheus-pt3wqthis comment ruined the scene for me 😭

I still get caught off guard when Mann gets pulled from the Endurance and there's no big audio blast - it just kind of 'happens'. Nolan was apparently a stickler for accuracy, and he NAILED the absence of audio - replaced with Zimmer's score.
!!! And to think that without the soundtrack this whole scene is happening with almost no sound at all
@@snegwatawski4196 this would be an insane edit, and i dont think any other scene could pull this off; from any other movie
If he's a stickler for accuracy, why is the spin fairly stately at 1:31 and 1:40, then suddenly turbo speed at 1:51 and 2:09. There's no indication that the former shots were in slow motion? But even in the clips where it's faster, it's still no where near 68 rpm, it's about a 10th of that.
@@jamesrockybullin5250lmfao. Good movie tho
@@jamesrockybullin5250for the discrepancy, it could be very plausibly explained by the air escaping out of the breached areas while the spacecraft is constantly trying to repressurize itself, effectively acting as a big continuous thruster and speeds it up, even after the initial depressurization.
But it is definitely slower than 68 RPM.
There’s nothing better than watching Matthew McConaughey docking.

Yes there is my friend. How about Mathew McCaunighey humming bumping his chest and taking bumps?
"WE ARE LOCKED!" is the line that gives me goosebumps. A moment of triumph for human boldness and machine precision.
it made me emotional,
I like the robots. Not too many films have AI robots that are straight talking without a sinister side. These are very helpful AI machines that are necessary and will give their 'life' if told to do so, not because of any human concept of duty but because they are in essence just functional machines.
Because the robots were originally marines, hence coopers comment when he first meets TARS "You still think you are a marine pal? The marines don't exist anymore, I've got grunts like you mowing my lawn."
The robots were made to follow orders like a soldier, also hence the personality settings etc.
I also really liked that they weren't humanoid-looking robots. They more closely resembled computers, which is what they are.
*laughs in CASE making sure he got on the ship before Doyle*
@@macestewarthumanoid robots would've given the feeling of an uncanny valley
These were here for the support of humans.. to think Cooper, TARS AND CASE saved the Endurance is just so insane
The edit and McConaughey's performance at 1:44 are masterful: Cooper has barely seen what's happened and he goes into action. It's the blockbuster feeling of "my God, they're gonna go for it"--meaning the characters *and* the filmmakers.
The music! So amazing. Gripping. I love this movie. It's so real. Even the lack of sound during space explosions. They did it right.

Lmfao idk why it's so funny but also motivational 🤣
many interpret that line as if Cooper was cheering for TARS. To me is quite clear that he was actually rushing TARS, and what he actually meant was "I cannot hold much longer, so come on TARS, hurry up!"
When that organ beat drops *chills*. Hans, you never fail to completely perfect a scene.
I absolutely love how this scene always portrays the rotation so clearly. The use of the star in the background and the shadows on the endurance always gives a clear reference point for what you’re looking at.
Some of, if not the greatest looking series of shots combined with some of the most masterful editing in film history
The score makes this scene 10X better
Please bring it back to IMAX, i missed it back in 2014 😭😭
They just announced it's going to be re released in imax this September to celebrate the 10th anniversary!
Releasing on September 27thhhh let's goooooooo!!!!
This is honestly one of the greatest scenes in movie history, and up there as the greatest in sci-fi movie history. I love that Interstellar's reputation has actually grown over the years
03:34 What is so captivating about this particular scene is how Nolan went above and beyond being physically accurate for the concept as well as for the viewer.
Then whether it is matching what you see from inside the lander outside the space and the universe rotating around or the rotation of the endurance and lander before they get in sync with each other.
Absolutely phenomenal.
Yes, that moment is so great
Few directors match Nolan's level of detail.
Most elegant way of using relative velocity.
I’m a huge movie fan. Seen everything. This is by far the greatest 7 minutes of cinema I have ever watched and I watch it over and over again
TARS and CASE are the two AI's calculated every possibility for docking and said ''It's not possible '' . AI may be 99% correct but 1% RISK taking capability of human saved them.
Gosh dang, this is a spot on comment. They calculated a decision at first until a human ordered new inputs. That is the power of human thinking and decision. AI can’t replace human, only supplement us,
Their risk level was set to low.
The truth is in the decimals. The AI was coded to give an answer from 0 to 100%, with maybe one decimal. One chance in a million would then be rounded up to 0 by a computer, but to a possible outcome for a human.

No matter how many times I watch this scene it ALWAYS makes me cry 😭
Amazing how well this movie still holds up visually
You make it sound like it's 30 years old..
The movie isn't too old, but what's really important is that Nolan prefers using practical effects over computer effects whenever he can. He only adds CGI as a last resort, and even then, only to enhance the practical effects. Unlike many modern movies that rely too much on CGI, Nolan's approach helps keep things looking more realistic. Sometimes in those other movies, the CGI is rushed, and it ends up making things look fake.

Well they have been design docking clamps to do that since the ISS days. The ISS docking clamps need to handle Soyuz boosting it to higher orbits.@@bergiov
PLUS the center of mass was still exactly dead center of the docking mechanism despite multiple modules nearly completely missing. Without a counterbalancing mechanism in the station, that's some serious luck.Same goes for the ranger. Which also simply can't do donuts, forget Ai or humans doing it.
Well it is passively stable like that due to its circular mass distribution.
Ive never see a high stakes moment portrayed so well in a movie ever. The line that coop says still to this day send chills down my spine. "No, it's necessary." Its not only because he wont be able to get home, but also the fact that plan B was also in the endurance as well. If the endurance is gone, theres no hope for coop and brand but most importantly, civilisation in general. Its insanely tense and the stakes are so high. At least professor brand, eventhough he lied, he brought the best to do it. Without coop, theyre done for. And i love the quick thinking coop does as well, shocked for literally seconds but figured it out straight away. Thats great writing right there. Shows you the experience that coop has. With the spinning when brand black outed as well. Facing the G's but coop didnt pass out cause of his experience that you turn your head the opposite way. Its the small details in the film for me. And the score!??! Chef kiss. Still dont know how Hans didnt get the oscar for this score.

About a month ago I bought the Hamilton "Murph" watch in the limited edition Tesseract watch case. I had bought the Hamilton watch that Cooper showed when he talked to Murph before leaving Earth, soon after I saw this in the theater. Both watches are now housed in the Tesseract box case. I spent about $2,500 for this collection. Because...this...movie...changed me.
