Was going to get this head unit but found out from talking to Tacoma Beast you loose most of the Information from the infotainment above the steering wheel like average gas mileage average trip fuel economy and tire pressure monitor. Not worth it if you loose these items

Can you clarify? Do you mean to say the information all together (both above the steering wheel and on the main screen) does not show, so you lose this information altogether? Or does it still show in one of the 2 areas?

I love and hate it at the same time!…
The size and look of the unit looks great.
However, the price considering it can’t even connect to the factory mic, and it doesn’t even have wireless CarPlay is just insane for the price they want!…
My oem head unit is a pile of junk, I’m always having problems with it, but I couldn’t spend that much money on something that’s just slightly bigger because I guarantee the quality is no better because from my experience, all head units are over priced junk… it’s extremely disappointing because I’ve never had one just work properly! 😑 Toyota still thinks we plug iPods into our head units!… shows how little they know and pay attention to the quality they put into them.

Love it so far but I do have one problem.

I might’ve missed it, but did you talk about the Bread Crumb feature on the Entune? My 2020 Taco has Bread Crumb which is great for backcountry riding with no cell service so if I get lost I can just follow back the trail. Does this have that feature or no?

I have a 2022 Tacoma with the JBL “premium” speakers and it is a joke. Half the time CarPlay doesn’t work and I have to reset the head unit. The subwoofer doesn’t add anything to to bass, it all comes from the front door speakers. The volume knob is laggy and annoying, and when I try to skip a song to go to the next track it will randomly tell me it’s downloading data from iPod and just ignore my request. I really want to upgrade to something like this but it just sucks I have to dump even more money into something that was supposed to be premium and I’ll lose my birds eye view… My 2019 Camry had none of these problems with Apple CarPlay

It's easy to be excited about a free $1400 product given to you. Whereas on the other hand when you spend your HARD EARNED $ on the same item we tend to scrutinize it more.

Great video explaining the features on the head unit. The price is insane, but there is a lot to it. I would think they would sell two versions instead of selling a bunch of wiring harnesses to people who are not going to use them. It would at least reduce the price a little. Im more curious about the anytime camera mod. DO you have a video on that? I guess i missed it if you do.

The Stinger units all feel like a stop gap solution for existing/late last gen vehicles to be updated to an almost next gen feature level like the Ford Lightning, Rivian, and similar. It's also priced as such! I feel the product is priced specifically for people who are not willing to wait and completely reinvest into a brand new full loadout (Suspension, tires, packout, etc.). I feel its priced way too high for someone looking to make a single to even 3/4 mod upgrade into a vehicle without the features. It's priced for someone who is already heavily invested in their buildout.

    • @rhadiem
      @rhadiem 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I plan on changing my stock head unit to a single din cd player with Blu tooth and a cb radio installed underneath it. I agree the stock head unit needs an upgrade but it's about better quality sound. Not a bigger touch screen.

I have a 2022 Tacoma Sport Premium with premium JBL sound package. When using Carplay, when Siri talks (texts, navagation, etc) or when you use the phone, the sound only comes through the front drivers side speaker with no option to adjust volume (trust me i've tried). Apparently this is how the JBL system is designed in the Tacoma for whatever reason. Otherwise the sound system is great for radio, SXM, and CarPlay music. Does this head unit use all speakers for calls/Siri/text message readback and allow adjustment of the volume? This is something i need to know about the Stinger head unit as it would determine whether or not I buy it.
Also - idk if i can forgive the fact that the Stinger unit will not use the Tacoma's OEM microphone. Does the little one on the front of the head unit work well? Can people hear you when on the phone? I absolutely will not mount that cheap looking lapel microphone in my tacoma.
Thanks! - Also great video I'm super interested in this radio as long as it remedies the Siri voice issue.

Hi Chloe, I installed this same unit on my ‘22 Taco, and for some reason the call volume while using CarPlay is very low from my side and the caller side, have not figure out why. All volumes are pretty high and the call volumes while using Bluetooth is awesome. Can you check why the CarPlay volume is so bad? I tried contacting Stinger and no success fixing it. Also the resolution of Carplay during the day is not the best. If you can help, I’ll appreciate it.

Did you up the gain in the sound settings for CarPlay? I had to for mine. Otherwise, maybe it's a volume setting you can fix on your iPhone itself. Good luck!

@@ChloeKuo I have tried everything and nothing works. I am using the BT phone call settings which is pretty crystal clear. Thanks

2000.00 dollars, it's only 10 inches and you can't do what you want with it? Apple car play and android auto are both supergay. Super terrible idea. I bought a 17 inch Samsung tablet for 1400.00, it's top of the line, I can watch TV while I drive.

I could not see the link for the mod to the any time camera, I just installed the Stinger in my 2019 and would like to hook up my front camera, thanks. Your install is much better than going to the stinger version. Thanks again.

I worked in aerospace for years, and the best fabricators were women. Their attention to detail and following instruction are much better than men. Looks like well-designed head both in form and function. I don't understand why the screen would get brighter when the car headlights are on. You need a dimmer screen at night. Also, I would have added a sun visor to the unit. Chloe, please show how the GPS works with NAV apps.

I had mine installed and my apple carplay doesn't work. I have a 2016 Tacoma. Not really liking this stereo.

Usually when people replace a head unit it’s the crappy stock one but with manufacturers putting apple car play and android auto in why do you need this what’s diffrent about this and the stock one except it’s bigger

Thanks for the video, it is much easier to follow than Stingers site. You mentioned a link for converting the anytime camera for the front camera, I was not able to find that. would you be able to re-post it. Thanks.

Did your stock radio JBL? Mine is JBL and I bought 10” touch screen from Amazon, after I installed and it had no sound. Why?

How did you get the reverse camera to work? I followed the instructions on install and it shows No Signal. I called Stinger and they told me to follow the paper manual to fix it, but it didn’t work. You have the exact same Tacoma as I do. Year and all. Did you have to do something different to get it to work?

If you reinstall the stock radio later, will it need a code to unlock it?
Someone just gave me their 2016 Tacoma stock radio and he had no idea if it needs a code to put it into a different vehicle. I know it's not the greatest radio, but it def looks better than my basic stock Honda radio.
    Thx. 😊

Hello I have a 2019 Tacoma and this video was amazingly helpful I still have two issues with it. First is when I go in reverse the camera doesn't show up unless I choose the camera app. Next is I still don't have android auto which is the main reason why I got it. Can anyone please give me a hand I'm literally at the final steps lol

That’s nice, but not $1700 nice. Maybe if my stock head unit died outside of warranty I would consider it…..

Does the Apple Car Play work over Bluetooth since the stock head unit is still stuck in the 20th Century and you need to be plugged in to the USB?

I still hate the button layout on the steering wheel… Up and down should be volume and left and right should be next track station up and down…. Instead Toyota did it backwards. - just a random comment

You can order the same kit of Amazon for a couple hundred dollars less. I did that because Tacoma beast was out of stock and told me they weren’t getting more. So I searched the part online and got it next day shopping for $400 less than what they charge.
