Some spoilers for season 6 included. Also, one other thing: The reason he's broken after his final encounter with Shigaraki is because after his arms are stolen, he has no way to fix the boss, so he's essentially crippled his mentor forever, and has to live with that.
As overhaul is my favorite character i hope they have a arc with eri saying she wont forgive him but understanding him and either healing the boss herself or giving overhaul his arms back(keep in mind all he needs is one arm thats why shigaraki took both as he can heal the other one)
so wait, is it only a hand touch thing, or can it be with his teeth or feet that he can use as well, or his tongue even, to regenerate body parts, because endeavor, shoto, and dabi can transfer their heat to their feat and fly, why can't overhaul transfer his quirk to his feet and regenerate his upper limbs, all that matters is that he touches something right?

I love how unlike lots of villains who are defeated and become sad and pathetic at the loss of there power and are just the way because they don't have power for themselves anymore overhaul becomes sad and pathetic because he can't help the person he loves most and it's killing him that because of him his father might never wake again. He is an irredeemable monster but he also has soft spots that make him a deep character that has lines he will and won't cross.
In one of the most recent chapters, it is shown that the old boss did wake up thanks to new advanced quirk technology and he even has a chat with overhaul. In that chat he said he was gonna visit overhaul every day until he died for abusing Eri.
I think Overhaul's lack of humanity is rooted in the nature of his quirk. Imagine if you could take apart human beings and reassemble them as easily as dissembling a clock and putting it back together. The value of life would be reduced from that perspective right? One positive of pain and suffering is that it develops empathy. People have to be taught empathy, usually by seeing how they are supposed to care and help when someone is hurt. Chisaki doesn't understand the gravity of being injured. It isn't a big deal to him. This is why it doesn't even register that hurting Eri is even bad. This has an interesting angle when you consider his idea about quirks being a disease, and that his quirk could have contributed to his own 'illness' of being a sociopath.
This line goes hard "his exterior now matches his interior a monstrosity with a small part of a man" dude i'm looking at chisaki so different now it's insane
@@gallenberger1lmao, when I saw that shot of Shigaraki’s eye, I immediately thought of Overhaul and thought to myself “Man the studio really likes to put their eye-budget on the villains. Nice work!”
One great detail from the manga which I have no idea why they cut from the anime is that early on Chisaki learned of a theory that quirks began from a virus spread by rats. He quite literally sees quirks as a plague and adds to why he has a habit of avoiding dirt.
One impact you didn't mention was the impact on Shigaraki's character going forward. He ends up recognizing the importance of having a plan and leading an organization. By the time the Liberation Army attacks the League and then offers allegiance to him, he accepts them because of his experience against Chisaki.

@@gallenberger1 Dabi , Shigaraki, Twice,AFO, Stain, and Togas pretty cool. Horikoshi is really good at writing villains. You don't see that often in most series.
@@gallenberger1 Wanted to ask your opinion, however, it'll consist of some manga spoilers So, if you're fine with that, I wanted to ask your opinion on how Eri's and Overhaul's meeting will happen and how will it change both Eri's and Overhaul's character, considering we're approaching the epilogue of MHA. As we noticed in Deku's Dark Hero's arc, we saw that Overhaul no longer sought revenge and only wanted to reunite with his boss. While I do understand that what Kai did is inherently wicked and overall wrongful, however, I genuinely think this meeting with Eri could change his hypothetical future if he manages to accept and atone for his crimes. At least in my eyes, the character of Kai is much more redeemable than the ones of Dabi, AFO or Shigaraki. Once again, thank you for this amazing video and will be looking forward to your answer.
@maldlions5313 I skimmed this as to avoid spoiling myself but I'm really looking forward to his reunion with Eri. I think she needs that closure of getting over him and the trauma he put her through to become her best self. Her having the strength to face him and hear him apologize is what she needs to move forward. I'm guessing it'll be tough for her at first or she may not want to do it, but I think it'll work our for everyone.
Excellent analysis. It’s also notable that, looking at Tv Tropes, Chisaki has a heavy dynamic with Shigaraki, he’s a deconstruction of the always someone better trope, that ultimately culminated with Shiggy’s upper hand, and destruction of his quirk. With the later reveal about how they relate, it signifies just how close their characters are. Chisaki sees quirks as a disease and wants to eradicate them, ending with losing his quirk. Shigaraki sees society as diseased, is drawn sickly, and wants to eradicate society but ends up stocked to the brim with quirks. Also, anime fans insistence that not many people died, or the villain didn’t kill large swathes is bad writing is so stupid. These are children s stories. Not many people die in Western entries like the MCU, LOTR, ATLA and nobody cares
"why doesn't anyone.. get the big picture! I will tear down this entire world! tear a hole in the very foundation!" also this arc has my favorite quote of all time with: "no one's going to follow a demon with no heart" 💜
Good analysis on my favorite MHA Villian. I agree he should have had a bigger impact for the future arcs but, I will never forget how much of an amazing villain he was.
Overhaul is the character that introduced me to Kenjiro Tsuda as a VA. In fact, I felt like Kenjiro became far more prominent as a VA after playing the role of Overhaul. Though that’s only my own perception.
Thank you so much for this video, whenever i go out in public i cosplay as him (same jacket, gloves, mask, everything) so its awesome to see him get the recognition he deserves
0:28 to add on to that -intimidation is one of the most important traits for a villain to have, (unless it’s a comedic villain) cause it really helps make an impact on the characters as well.
Overhaul arc really was peak MHA. the stakes were high, fights were goated, and the writing was meaningful. unfortunately, i never felt the same about the show again for the other seasons
3:34 “he truly wants to ~ Overhaul ~ the world” -aaaand roll credits😂😂 jokes aside, this is an amazing video, I had never really thought about how amazing of an anime villain Overhaul truly is!! 😄👍
I actually love this youtuber he goes so in depth about the characters and i already agreed that overhaul was a really underrated protagonist, but this video just gave me all the more reason to believe so
God I love Overhaul. Great for Shigaraki's development his impact on the future was awesome with Killing Night eye and Lemillion having his quirk removed. His design, power and personality are fantastic. While I overall prefer Shigaraki, Overhaul is a close second. Also both his English and Japanese VA's do an incredible job.
I think eri was a missed opportunity. They kinda did it with the smiling arch but I think they should have use her trauma to limit her in her use of the quirk. Up to the point of smiling she thought she was a burden at best a curse at worst. That understanding of your quirk does not change overnight and it would be cool to see her gradually learn that her quirk can be used for good.
Something that I always enjoyed as a tidbit but something I know many may have not payed attention to was how long the raid actually took. It took the heroes a whole 1hr and 15mins to storm the Shie Hassakai and defeat Overhaul. It’s such a good way to deduce how fast someone like Overhauls entire plan be weaved into a big picture just to be crumbled instantly each step of the way. He was so confident in himself not realizing that it took a short amount of time for Deku and Togata to wipe the floor with him.
That's a really cool way of putting that. I brought up how quick it was in terms of how he had to deal with it, and that he was overconfident but didn't tie them together like you here. Awesome comment
Great video! Overhaul was one of my favorite antagonists in the series. I’d be interested to hear more of your thoughts on the villains in the series. Im pretty divided on how some of them were handled myself but I’m always curious to hear what others think about them.
Overhaul has always been my favorite villain in the series, and he has such a pretty and unique character design. But ‼️SPOILER TO THE MANGA‼️ I was honestly hoping that he could’ve played some kind of roll in the second war, much like Lady Nagant and Gentle Criminal. But I understand why having him help out in the war wouldn’t make any sense given that he despises heroism and villains. But the thought of him trying to help stop the war, so he could still be given a chance to apologize to his pops would’ve been powerful.
My only problem with Overhaul is how bad he is at using his quirk. He can destroy literally anything he touches and yet he never went out of his way to kill the top heroes? What a waste
This was the BEST and only good arc of the series. After that, nothing felt as gripping me to the screen. As for the building arc for Deku becoming a vigilante, it feels...like it could go even DEEPER than what we got. I might make a video going into more details where Deku becomes consumed with obsession/being under pressure, from the expectations of society of him to be the best hero and he snaps, losing grip of All for One. I think in this turn that would feel a lot more impactful.
Overhaul atill remains my favorite villain of MHA, and S4 for me still the best season. And Polaris is the best MHA opening, not only cuz of the song but also cuz of the lyrics
Gread video ! Finally, someone talks about how interesting overhaul is . Though i wish they did more with him, like imagine him fighting the nomu high-ends dude despises quirks and filth GUESS WHAT A NOMU AND AFO ARE . If only my goat got at least something to do in the final arc or even get some development for both him and nagant, like how does an ex hero feel about taking care of a crippled monster .
since he can have other peoples quirks while fusing with them he could have found out which part of the body the quirk comes from and basically be like all for one
Because of his quirk, Overhaul regarded death and suffering as beneath consideration. Whether to him or another, it’s meaningless noise that’s easily inflicted and erased. Losing his quirk, and realizing that the damage he did to the one person he’d ever loved was now irreversible, marked the first time, likely in his life, that he ever experienced regret… and it basically breaks him as a person. That’s what makes Deku’s final words to him so interesting. “If the day ever comes that you can apply that feeling to Eri as well.” It proves that he DOES have the capacity for empathy, buried under his central defining trait of arrogant selfishness, and his despair marks the first time in his life he can finally understand the last warning his master gave him.
For me overhaul was easily the best his whole philosophy wasmt based on being good or bad he threw that all away so he could control both the villains and the heros from the shadows by making the drug and sellingnitnto both parties
In the manga, a twist made the dynamic between Overhaul and Tomura more interesting. Kai also finally got his conclusion in the recent chapters of manga
Before this, I only remembered form him 1. Tortured a 6 year old. 2. Made quirk-destroying bullets. 3. Made Mirro lose his quirk. 4. Made Deku go full calling 100%
I just kinda wish he had more impact outside of his arc, he basically got introduced and defeated in the same arc, same goes for nighteye, introduced just to die right in the same arc, so, in a way, ot made it feel a bit pointless to me, Overhaul's could have made the whole Shigaraki/AFO vs Heroes conflict more interesting
I rewatched this fight right before S7 started Overhaul is my favorite Villain in MHA and the themes of the arc were amazing and Dekus fight is absolute spectacle everytime

So, if you're fine with that, I wanted to ask your opinion on how Eri's and Overhaul's meeting will happen and how will it change both Eri's and Overhaul's character, considering we're approaching the epilogue of MHA.

@@acetofresh1 Great insightful comment!
"why doesn't anyone.. get the big picture! I will tear down this entire world! tear a hole in the very foundation!" also this arc has my favorite quote of all time with: "no one's going to follow a demon with no heart" 💜
So many great lines!
im surprised he never worked with re destro, their goals seem to alighn.
Good analysis on my favorite MHA Villian. I agree he should have had a bigger impact for the future arcs but, I will never forget how much of an amazing villain he was.
Yep, he knocked his part of the story out of the park no doubt! Glad you're a fan
Glad you liked it! His look is awesome
Yeah overhaul was cold straight up 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@brendonwallace6640 💯
Thank you so much, hes my favorite villain
Happy to deliver!
0:28 to add on to that -intimidation is one of the most important traits for a villain to have, (unless it’s a comedic villain) cause it really helps make an impact on the characters as well.
Great add!
Overhaul arc really was peak MHA. the stakes were high, fights were goated, and the writing was meaningful. unfortunately, i never felt the same about the show again for the other seasons
I thought season 6 did a good job at making things feel impactful, but season 4 doesn't get enough credit.
3:34 “he truly wants to ~ Overhaul ~ the world” -aaaand roll credits😂😂 jokes aside, this is an amazing video, I had never really thought about how amazing of an anime villain Overhaul truly is!! 😄👍
Appreciate it, and glad you were able to appreciate him more!
He was definitely more interesting than All for One.
Fr he is one of the best anime villains and the fight against him was one of the best in the show
He might be my favorite villain in the show
I actually love this youtuber he goes so in depth about the characters and i already agreed that overhaul was a really underrated protagonist, but this video just gave me all the more reason to believe so
Thanks a lot! I hope you enjoy some of the other videos!
ngl, peak take on this topic, this was really fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope to see you around on some of my other vids
Such an amazing video, and some of the exact takes that I've had ever since overhaul was revealed
Glad you thought so! What takes were you thinking?
God I love Overhaul. Great for Shigaraki's development his impact on the future was awesome with Killing Night eye and Lemillion having his quirk removed.
His design, power and personality are fantastic. While I overall prefer Shigaraki, Overhaul is a close second.
Also both his English and Japanese VA's do an incredible job.
The voice actors definitely deserve more credit
The Best Anime Villain No One Talks About
Yeah, even the author not talk about him in the final fight-
He needs more recognition istg 😭🙏🏻
I think eri was a missed opportunity. They kinda did it with the smiling arch but I think they should have use her trauma to limit her in her use of the quirk. Up to the point of smiling she thought she was a burden at best a curse at worst. That understanding of your quirk does not change overnight and it would be cool to see her gradually learn that her quirk can be used for good.
Agree, they definitely rushed her usage of it.
The overhaul arc is still my favorite. Though im relatively pleased with how the manga is wrapping up with a few chapters to go.
Wow, you stole the.thoughts right out of my head! Literally couldn't have said it any better myself!
I look forward to seeing your work in the future
Much appreciated and glad you agree! Hope to see you around and chat about anime at some point!
@gallenberger1 I will surely be around, I rarely make videos on anime anymore but videos like this has me itching to do it!!
High praise! I'll do my best to make sure it's warranted.
Great video! Overhaul was one of my favorite antagonists in the series.
I’d be interested to hear more of your thoughts on the villains in the series. Im pretty divided on how some of them were handled myself but I’m always curious to hear what others think about them.
Also if you’re keeping up with the manga, have you liked the ending so far?
Who would you like to hear about?
Sick analysis man!
Thank you! Hope to see you back!
@@gallenberger1 Hope so too
Overhaul and Dabi are the best villains in that show. Stain is a anti-hero IMO, but he is badass.
Im excited to see overhaul in my hero ultra rumble. I think he will come in season 7.
He better. We need that Eri apology!
@@gallenberger1 Im talking about the video game: My Hero Ultra Rumble, not the anime.
YES! finally somebody talking about Overhaul- what an interesting character.
I wouldn't say it's the only good arc but I agree they could've gone further with Deku as a vigilante
"The only good arc" 💀
that's why he's my favorite.
Good taste
Amazing video and I agree he is a phenomenal villain
Much appreciated! Hope to see you back
Overhaul atill remains my favorite villain of MHA, and S4 for me still the best season.
And Polaris is the best MHA opening, not only cuz of the song but also cuz of the lyrics
Love that OP. Good taste 😎
amazing video, totally agree
@@br2891 Always good seeing more Overhaul fans 👊
I miss him.. :c
Thanks for the great comment. Imagining all they could have done with him, there are so many cool scenarios that come to mind like you said
since he can have other peoples quirks while fusing with them he could have found out which part of the body the quirk comes from and basically be like all for one
That's a good point. His quirk really is unreal
Definitely he would, if he didn't hate quirks
Overhaul has always been my favourite film his design his power is introduction is very cool. I love this character.
His design really is awesome but also fitting for his personality and backstory.
“If the day ever comes that you can apply that feeling to Eri as well.”
It proves that he DOES have the capacity for empathy, buried under his central defining trait of arrogant selfishness, and his despair marks the first time in his life he can finally understand the last warning his master gave him.
@lancerguy3667 Great comment, stuff like this is great
Honestly one of my all time favorite anime characters ever.. he got done so dirty near the end.
My exact thoughts
11:17 HE GOT THE MADARA TREATMENT!! 😭
Despite everything he did Overhaul was a great villain. Plus his Quirk is OP as hell. If he was a doctor I see him helping a lot of people.
For me overhaul was easily the best his whole philosophy wasmt based on being good or bad he threw that all away so he could control both the villains and the heros from the shadows by making the drug and sellingnitnto both parties
I love overhaul. The mask is really goofy though🎉
In the manga, a twist made the dynamic between Overhaul and Tomura more interesting. Kai also finally got his conclusion in the recent chapters of manga
Before this, I only remembered form him
1. Tortured a 6 year old.
2. Made quirk-destroying bullets.
3. Made Mirro lose his quirk.
4. Made Deku go full calling 100%
That's four more things than some!
And this arc has the best Opening and Closing songs off all the series !!!
Absolutely
OVERHAUL WAS THE BEST VILLAIN!! He had levels of writing of a Naruto villain. 😈
What is naruto
My favorite Anime villain ngl
@@Finessed6x Great choice!
gallen fr sounds like overhauls dub voice 😭
idk how to take that 🤣
With the bullets and overhaul help would be easier to kill all for one
The Overhaul arc could've even been longer, it was so good
Totally agree
I really hate the way Overhaul Treated Eri, but he is 100% the best villain in MHA.
Agreed. Some sort of societal impact would've been nice.
Overhaul was my fqv villain from mha - love this
He's awesome. Glad you enjoyed! Hope to see you back on more vids
chisaki is my favorite absolute top #1 villian in all of anime, also i thought deku was going super saiyan blue cause of his hair LOL
