Man, I can almost see him now! Walkin' those Streets of Gold, and playin' that fiddle up there for Jesus! I wonder what it'd be like, hearin' him marching up and down those Golden Streets, playin' "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a Wretch like me! I once was lost, but now I'm found. Twas blind, but now I see"!!! Thankfully, he'd become a Christian quite a few years back, and he wasn't afraid to proclaim his faith in God. Takes a true man or woman, to do that!!!
I have a Friend in Minnesota who plays in the “Duluth Symphony Orchestra” and she plays in a Country Rock Band on the weekends and this one and OBS are my absolute favorites to hear her play. Did I mention she plays the Fiddle. And that’s Duluth, MN not Duluth, GA. 🌺😁♥️

I saw Charlie and the band in Iraq in 2009. They played outside during a sand storm and said they would keep playing until they ended their set or the sand ruined their equipment so they couldn’t play. They ended up finishing their set while we could barely see them due to the storm. After the show, the band stuck around until every service member got to shake their hands and get a pic. I will remember that day forever.
My sister got stood up by her date for this concert..so I got to go instead. My kid self, and an avid dislike of any country music..LOVED THE SHOW, got a fake felt cowboy hat, and raced around my neighborhood for months singing this at the top of my lungs! Every time I beat my Sister a checkers from this point in..my line was.."I told you once you son of a _____, I'm the best there's ever been!" I lost my sister a few years back to breast cancer..man, do I miss picking on her.lol! Mr. Daniels was one of the kindest musicians that I’ve ever met. I’ll never forget the kindness he and his band showed to me and my wife. They were all down to earth like true gentlemen. The man this song was written about, Johnny Watts, was a family friend and one of the best fiddle players ever. He and Charlie both passed within a few months of each other. Miss both of them and their music.
So glad I got t see him and the CDB band play that with a storm coming in the background, it was the fastest they ever played it and got us all out before the storm hit at the family reunion concert back in the day. The devil will never win against Johnny!
I looked this video up because we listen to the song, but I wanted my son to actually *see* Charlie Daniels ripping’ it up on that fiddle! I was a little girl when I first heard this song courtesy of my Daddy, who was a long-haul trucker who came to have a great appreciation for country music. He would always say, “No matter where you are in the US, one thing you’ll always be able to find is a country music station”. Charlie Daniels passed away the year before before my Daddy did.
