I’m not a Sonos guy, because I own a Bose soundbar system. But I still enjoyed this video really much! For someone looking into a sound test for buying a Sonos ARC plus or minus the Sub, THIS is the video to watch! Really awesome video, as always. I’d really love to see more of your work, especially looking at other possible soundbar combos like Bose, LG, Samsung etc. Thanks for your awesome content!
@@darkblueturbo two 5's is awesome. I bought one and then went back for another a few days later. You're only doubling the amount of speakers but 5x's the listening experience.
I have updated my Sonos system (ARC+ 2 One-SL and 1 sub gen3) and added a second sub. The Sonos sub brings a great update to the whole listening experience. I did notice that the sub is somewhat directional. You always notice where the sub is in the room. By adding the second sub, this phenomenon has completely disappeared, and I experience a more homogeneous baseline.
I have a same system now looking for second sub, u really touched my point of not notice where the sub bass coming from in the room. Also what about music
I really enjoy your channel! I came upon it when I first started looking into getting the whole Sonos Arc Entertainment set. I'll be getting my Arc in the mail this coming Tuesday and very excited about it! Keep up the great work with the entertaining and informative videos!
I added two subs, sounds awesome. They are now Balanced sound. Before with only one sub, it seemed like it was working hard. Now One sub front side of the tv and one back side of the room.
Hello i just bought my 2nd sub and ur right, and i really love it..how can we test the subs for example how it sounds with one and with both?unplugging one of the sub?im afraid doing so will make me do the trueplay again?thank you
Hi Peter, excellent work you do! Please do a video comparing frequency response graph of (Arc + Single Sub) with (Arc + Dual Sub). Also if you can compare graphs of (Arc + Two Fives + Single Sub) and (Arc + Two Fives + Dual Sub), that would be AMAZING!!!! Literally the only reviewer on TH-cam qualified to do this is you!! Please plot all graphs WITH Trueplay activated. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!! I've an Arc and a 2nd Gen Sub, these comparisons will help decide if adding a 2nd Sub and two Fives is worth it or not.
Good idea for the video. I should get to this sooner rather than later. Maybe for the final video for 2020! Quick recommendation for you. Get the second sub rather than the fives for the Arc. The improvements are bigger with the second sub.
Hello Peter. Thanks for this. All my Sonos orders arrived yesterday finally! It took more than a month to arrive but I now have the Amp, a pair of architectural ceiling speakers, and the Gen 3 Sub. Everything is set-up and working well with the S2 app. Sounds great! Thanks for sharing all your Sonos content. It helps us understand the solution 👍
Hello, I’d love to get your feedback about Xbox series x/ps5 sound settings with the Sonos arc/gen 3 sub and rears. Doesn’t seem to be any content out there on this and your the sonos expert
Peter, if adding to your setup, would you go for an additional Sub OR a pair of Era 300’s for a primary use of movie watching? Which would have the most impact.
I added a 2nd and set it off to the side and back, and it's amazing!! I have a large open area and it's so immersive for movies and gaming sounds incredible.
Hi Peter, On what app are you playing the Dolby Atmos demo video? I am doing the same and my TV only outputs PCM audio from youtube app(on the TV), no matter which video i play from it.
Can you plug each of the vents on the Sonos Sub to make it a sealed sub? Sealed subs have a tighter bass which I feel sounds better than ported subs. I look forward to your response back Peter. Thanks.
Hi Peter With the addition of the second sub and software updates coming out after your settings recommendations video, do you suggest changing the EQ and sub settings or are those settings still good? Thanks!
I am overdue for a review to those settings as I am pretty sure the Arc has gone through some rounds of sound tweaks and the second sub changed everything significantly. For now, I am sticking to my original settings though.
Let me make this a bit clear, Does anyone or anyone that subscribes know what Peter is using to playback the atmos files in this video, I appreciate your help Thanks
@@PeterPee No worries Peter. Great to know, I think that is so far the common use nowadays for Atmos file playback. hehehe. I'm looking someday to find a cheaper playback solution that is not $1000.
Peter, great job on the Sonos videos. We all know how much you like the Fives as surrounds. Now that dual subs are possible, could you compare your "ultimate" setup against the Arc + Sub x2 + OneSL surrounds? This seems fair since the price point is the same......
Wow... That would be a killer video. Thanks for the idea! I'd get round to that in time! I am currently thinking about the KILLER setup with ARC+2xSub+2xFive.
great review Peter...what do you use as rear speakers ( 5's or ONE SL's ) i have the sonas Arc / 1sub Gen 3 with another one the way / and pair of ONE SL's for the rears........been debating on whether to put 5's as my rears....love the sounds and this is on a regular LCD TV and blue ray player.......ordered a 4k TV Q90T 85 inch....and the Panasonic 4k 820 blue ray player.....what else should i add or is that enough ? its in my man cave in the basement and the room is 14x22 ft... 8ft ceiling....can't wait till i have everything set up.....cheers from Canada and be safe all
I’ve got same set up with the Q90 and One SLs as rears. They are solid. Unless your rear speakers are further behind your seating area I think the 5s would be too powerful and would be a shame to use them at a lower volume!
@@GOLFADDICT65 For sure. I bet in the right size room it would be fantastic. At 22 ft it might be worth trying since the room is a larger rectangle rather than a square 14 x 14.
Thanks for the great content Peter. Do you have Fives as your left and right channels as a part of your ultimate set up? I see them in the front. Was the difference of adding the second sub remarkable?
Yes I have two of the fives but they are a separate setup. I just have them in front. They are used as stereo pair. The second sub measures very well. The increase in dB goes up to +10dB at the mid bass region. IT's really quite crazy. But could be because the Sub gen 2 is thicker in the mid bass. I should try to get another gen 3 sub to try pairing them both... gosh, the rabbit hole just opened up.
Hey Peter please make make a video demonstrating how AirPlay 2 works with the latest Apple TV and Sonos One's! Looking to use a pair of Sonos One with my TV!
I didnt think I'd actually be able to tell the difference over TH-cam but holy hell that second sub makes such a difference. I'm going to be getting the Arc and a single sub in the next few months but I feel like I need that second sub ASAP! Edit: I should be getting the rear speakers before getting the second sub though, right?
Hello question for you. I have the playbar, Gen 2 and a recently added Gen 3 sub. 2 Plays 1s. Would it be worth it to add 4 ceiling speakers? I have 4 cut outs in my ceiling. Would I just be spending too much? Would it even sound any better? My living room and kitchen are one big room. Open concept. Thank for any feedback!
Don't need the ceiling speakers anymore. They won't add much more. You already have about as complete a setup as you can get. The ceiling speakers aren't always ideal as surround channel and if you use them as a separate room, it detracts from an ideal soundstage.
No. My observation is that it is possible for two subs to over power the room. If the room is small, don't deploy an extra sub. It will not be worth it.
If you have a large room and want Atmos, yes. If you intend to get a sub, yes. But the Arc has worse bass response than the play base just so you know.
Probably a stupid question but hey, i don't know. That awesome blue glow coming from the sub, is that something the sub does that im not aware of or is that something cool you have in your own custom set up? Forgive me if this is a stupid question. Im very new to this stuff.
Please don't be afraid to ask. At some point in time, I knew nothing about speakers too and we all had to begin with the first question. The lights are what I put behind the sub. Not from the sub itself. I use it to highlight the sub on video so you know where the sound is coming from. :)
I do appreciate greatly what Sonos is doing, the ease of setup, the app etc. but price for this setup is quite prohibitive. Sonos sub is expensive for what it offers and tbh there should be a single sub for that price able to do at least what 2 can do at the moment. If they do one day a sub that goes as low as 20Hz with decent sound level and rears with atmos support then I would consider if total package will be in under 2k -2.5k.
Actually, for 2.5K you can get decent performance from say a Denon AVR and speakers package from SVS with a SB-1000 sub. It is just that you are going to have to run cables and there is no smarts in that setup and you are losing streaming and integration with voice assistants...

I am doing up another video. But the short answer is, you need a sizeable room. If your room is too small, potential will not be realised.
I thought it was suggested to do the trueplay away from the Arc to boost the performance?
Thats what i was going to comment
Yes, I'd recommend that too. I am doing this to standardise the testing.
