Thank you for mentioning you're 6 ft 2! Same height as me, and I am tired of looking bigger than my motorcycle. I've specifically been looking at the Rocket III because it looks big enough for a tall guy.
You're not helping Chops....I thought that I'd gotten over wanting one of these after watching yourself and Greg ride them last time. The "Rocket fever" is back....😍
It should have a reverse gear. In certain situations you’ll definitely need one. I’d add knee pads on the tank. No argument it’s a mighty powerful, quality build great brakes with shaft drive. Worth every penny.
A friend of mine and his wife loved their R3, great space for large two up folks riding. The reason they sold it was because of no reverse gear and its great weight - the wife was the reverse when parked on grass, she pushed it back and forwards. They now have a 1200GS but it is slightly too small for them and are looking at suspension options. Still a gorgeous bike and fabulous dream by the Triumph designers come to reality!
I've had the old Rocket III for the last 12 years, which is heavier. Never needed a reverse gear. I have a BMW K1600GTL. Never needed a reverse gear. I used to have a BMW K1200LT that had a reverse gear. I hardly ever used it and then only for novelty effect. Incidentally, I'm 5' 6, so not a big guy. In what situations do you need one?
Picked up a Rocket GT 221 last month. Great bike. Suspension did seem firm to start with but now approaching 1000 miles it seems to be less so. Quick shift is brilliant, can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t have one.
Cracking Bike Chopsy! I bought one end of last year, and with 4 other bikes in the garage, this is always the one I go for. Your spot on about the handling too. You just need to commit and she goes wherever you want her to. Been speaking to TTS about Supercharging too!
went for a ride with a rocket gt 221 special edition last weekend. Awesome sound riding behind it. Nice long sweepers. perfect for the bike. The rider was loving it.
I've owned my 2021 Rocket 3R for 2 years. I have installed the quick shift, heated handle bars, bluetooth, GT handle bars and forward pegs, back rest etc. I have also had the standard exhaust modified by an exhaust specialist. Great experience owning one and a fairly minor negative, it just doesn't give me that satisfying experience a great exhaust note delivers. I am about to swap it with a 2022 Diavel on a mutual agreement with another rider who is looking for a bike that can ride two up better than his Diavel. The Diavel has the full Termy exhaust system. I have always wanted to own a Diavel. I have no regrets with my experience on the Rocket. It is incredible. I will no doubt ride the Diavel for a season or two but I'm pretty sure I'll change again. Thx for the review.
Would love one of these... Buddy I rode the new Harley Low Rider S last weekend at the MCN Bike show. Never been a cruiser guy, definitely not a Harley guy, but I was genuinely amazed how much I liked it, was laughing in my helmet the whole 40 min ride going "I love it, I can't believe it, how is it so good?" not an especially sporty bike, but so much fun and so much instant grunt. An absolute hoot... Might have to rethink and add a cruiser or two to the collection after all!
I test rode a Rocket 3 a few weeks back and agree with your comments - it tramlines terribly though - but so addictive and I was very surprised with the handling - looking forward to the Diavel test to see how that fairs - cheers Chopsy 😎
Wonderful way of conveying the feeling that the bike gives and the overall experience. It would be good to also include the VMAX in a subsequent review. Despite its age, it's the most natural rival.
I was just going to write the same comment, second generation *VMax 1700* is somewhat old but it actually fits right in with the Rocket and the Diavel in terms of aesthetics and performance
I have a '99 VMAX and I was thinking the intakes on the Diavel at the end look very similar. Very much an Italian VMAX. I'd love to ask them if they took any inspiration from it.
"Put the phone down and appreciate the Rocket" 😅😅😅 oh this made my day. I wish I'd have been there. I would have appreciated the hell out of that thing! 😂
Nice one Chops... Only two things that bug me about the bike is the passenger seat is to small for a cruiser and the clocks.. just the wrong style, should have been some nice analogue clock with a digital panel between like the Z900RS
This bike is truly unique in it's kind. This thing when gets used to communicates what it likes better then any other bike I ever owned. Just put the pegs in the higher position and throw that thing around like a supermoto. I like sports bikes and would have never thought to love this bike that much. It's not a commuter but an awesome weekend toy. Well done Triumph!
I tried one for the first time today, man this bike is INSANE 163 ft lbs of torque 🤯 The torque is unreal, when u give it full throttle the bike just wants to throw u off and go 200mph
@tomtemple69 You should try one with a remap. There's something to try to wrap your head around. I get TC going from 3th to 4th gear. Incredible bike this one 😉
@tomtemple69 Also true... I just can't justify what they charge for an aftermarket system. I started looking and found this dutch company that make custom mid-pipes for about 150€ and this would allow full decat and any damper of choice (Acra, Boss, Arrow, Leo,.. ) For a set-up like that you would be paying about 1500€. I would like to try something like that.
@@JimJuno oh yeah, a remap on this opens up an extra 35 hp🤯 unreal, an engine more powerful than my car and almost as much torque is insane especially at 1/4 the weight
Biking is all about feeling and feelings generated - reckon you'll find the Ducati and Triumph operating in different areas of the performance cruiser segment......we'll have to wait and see what the 'bros' make of them 👍🙂 Always a delight having a Chopsy video first thing in the morning !
Very nice machine. I've ridden with groups of Rocket 3 riders for a week at a time a couple times and they are the coolest motorcycle riders around. I'm not cool enough to own a Rocket but I plan to ride the snot out of one very soon. No matter which bike is the best the Rocket 3 will be the coolest.
Amazing a machine this big can handle so well. Didn't even know how much I liked this thing until you pointed out the details. Thanks for the test can't wait till you ride the Ducati
What a fantastic machine, 17:42 I really was expecting you to pull over then, you would have been bombarded with onlookers 😂. Looking forward to the comparison 👍
Another great review Chopsy, made all the more interesting as I've watched it after seeing your more recent review of the Diavel V4. Listening to all your (well justified) superlatives about the Rocket, I was thinking 'wait until he gets astride the V4' 😆
Just sold my TFC which had a quick shifter. What an experience. I think it makes the most out of the torque. Triumphs quick-shifter on the rocket I found is sublime. Keep on Rockin chops! See what I did there ! 😂👍
When hell freezes over and I tire of my KTM 1290 Superdule R, I am 58 now, I am definitely getting a Rocket lll R despite your previous attempt to tempt me with a Honda Goldwing. Great bike, I was sat in my van recently having lunch, reading my latest Bill Bryson book when one came past me slowly. I swear the van vibrated and the soft ground beneath us, eye openner, I knew right away I need that bike. The finish is Bentley level. I suspect the good people of Petersfield ? already have one each
I own the GT version of the Rocket a 2020 model so fun to ride this bike check all the box for me fast, powerful, torquey and its a looker when i ride it its like having a ferrari everyone look at it giving me thumbs up. Ive been riding for 40 years on all sort of bike from supersport to cruiser but the Rocket stand alone not just from is unique look for me its a combinaison of sport bike and cruiser style i added a quickshifter on it and on a red light you leave everyone behind easy, best motorcycle for me its a keeper im not gonna sell this one for sure.
At least you managed to go out without a top box this time. :P I know that 50 something feeling chops hence I now ride a Honda CB1300 because I want less top end but more torque punch and overall comfort along with the classic yesteryear muscle looks. I love the fact that I start her up and no electronics to mess about with just her beautiful dual analogue clocks.
A shame they didn’t supply one with shift assist Chopsy as really livens up the big R3 🤔 💡 full throttle up shifts and auto blipper on way down, especially with the fairly low redline, makes a big difference
The rocket is a true piece of engineering art, but having just tried the new Diavel, that Ducati is something else. The most astonishing bike I've ever ridden.
Agree completely, rocket is trying to out do the American at being crass and over blinged! While the Diavel looks like a cruiser but goes like a sports bike! In 5 years when I’ve enjoyed the sports bikes while I can (57 Ducati Panigale v2) I will want a Diavel for the handling and comfort!
Long time diavel owner here, but u do fancy a rocket very much. But I love how the diavel handles the twists. Looking forward to watching your comparison. 🤗
Duuude, I've never seen a dirtier bike! Bringing in my Speed Triple 955i for maintenance next week, they've promised me to have a Rocket 3 R as a loaner, very much looking forward to that! And yea.. No bike makes you feel as cool as the Rocket 3!
They kept their promise. Rocket 3 for like four days. Took a while to get my 2021 R1 sold, but managed to and took the Rocket 3 R home the very next day. Sooo happy with it! :)
Also, for you to find it's deck, you just need to pucker up and GO FASTER! No shit, I make my ducati and ktm bros work hard for the money, if they can even catch up. It's SURPRISINGLY nimble once you figure it out, even on very tight passes where every 150 or 200 meters is another switchback. it takes the piss on pretty much anything else. Worn down the cobras in first two weeks. Footpegs needs replacing soon enough. So is tyres. And I've just had it like a three months. Such a BLAST to ride!
Absolutely love my Rocket and it is the cool factor that makes this machine. Mind you I relocated the number plate and fitted a Weeks exhaust for some extra coolness. 😅
Had one. Suspension was shocking. I read you really need to get it set up properly. Doesn’t really sound good either and while I admit I didn’t look into an exhaust system I really didn’t bond with it at all (I had one of two black editions to hit ireland). I lost a bit of money and sold it on. I actually think the diavel and xdiavel are more fun bikes. Nothing against the rocket really. I had one of the originals as well way back in the day. Great looking big thing. Makes you feel good if you see yourself in a window on it. I’m 6ft 4 and 18 stone. I like big bikes. Good vid chopsie
@@matthjas67 unfortunately I couldn’t get it set up well. I was going to try taking it to an expert but really just didn’t gel with the bike at all. Nice review...l have the black r version..all black looks fantastic...l think this chrome version looks odd as the tank is the only chrome on it, needs more chrome in other places on the bike to even it out. Imo You really need to ride one with the quickshifter as it transforms the ride and its silky smooth and the grin factor... good job chops.
Beautiful looking machine, I wouldn’t have the chrome,I’d have a painted version, if I was in the market for one and strong enough to hold it up move it around,
£22,695 for the Rocket 3 GT. Just had a sit on one at Youles in Manchester. What a machine. I'm not quite 50 yet but I can see myself on one of those. But the question arrises, will it hussle? You think yes. Will it tour..... Hmm? Will I be able to wheel it in and out of my garage.... Probably not. Love it thought, what a bike.
I was soooo close to buying one of these, I just couldn’t deal with the WEIGHT and SIZE, it would have been a tight fit in the garage, My Final thoughts were what bike have you been riding for 35-years that has never disappointed and has been the safest motorcycle for the streets, There is only 1-choice- “SPORT-BIKE’” So I bought my 1st Kawasaki Sport Bike !! A 2023-ZX-10-RR, the cruise control put me over the edge and the Pankl internals that makes the Inline-4 Scream. Fun fact my ZX-10-RR weight is less than a ZX-4RR, This phenomenal experience with my ZX-10-RR has turned on another light bulb to order an H2 in November, I love Chops because we are the same age and love the same bikes. Crazy how we have the same opinions about motorcycles for the most part!!!
Nice review Chops, thank you. I’d ditch the chrome for a shifter/ blipper & pillion seat delete. Unless Triumph have changed practices they send the Rocket out with the shock maxed out like concrete.. quick fiddle reqd 😂
Great review & bike. What a beauty but as you say Chops I'd be scared to use it with that chrome finish. Nonetheless it's a fantastic machine & probably a dream bike but most probably not your only bike depending on the type of riding you do I guess. Also on a side note, be careful who you show your Rocket to when you're out & about lol.
Just sold my Rocket 3 after one month off ownership. Thought at the age off 55 i would be in that time to "settle" with a Rocket and fade away in a more mature me. Nope, switched to a MT10 SP 😁
Love the new Rocket. So much better than the old one. The only thing I could criticise it for was I thought it could do with a remap. My old rocket can trickle along in top gear but I couldn't do that with the new one and maybe a remap would sort that out. Otherwise it's the bike the original rocket should always have been.
Never been a fan . I have had something of all sorts but cannot see me ever entertaining one of those. A cult following no doubt but for sure a very narrow margin of people. None the less another top production 👌
I've heard that tyre changes hate this bike, because the back rim edge is too narrow. The guy I've been going to for tyres (he has 30+ years experience at fitting tyres), refuses to fit or change tyres on the Rocket, he has shreaded the bead so many times. He hates my Pan Am too, because the bead is to thick with the way they fit the spokes, doesn't want to stay in the tyre changing machine. If you can't get the tyres changed, it seem pointless.
I'm not really that keen on the chrome option on most of the Triumphs; I'd prefer them just to be more adventurous with their paint. It looks amazing on the Rocket though. Definitely the scheme to go for. It's an amazing bike, for loons. I look forward to the match up with the Ducati. I can guess the winner.
Interesting now the ECU being reflashed here and in the US and shows just how detuned the big triple motor is, they are now knocking 200hp and 180rwhp out of these now Chopsy with higher redlines stock motors. I wonder if they might up the power now the V4 Diavel is out but then., you can’t hide the weight. Enjoyed mine for 18mo and 9000 miles but found it too heavy to be my everyday bike, 🤔 but just nothing like it for presence.
@@LambChopRides truthfully mate it felt cheap, the headstock felt like it was going to snap, had a sort of wobbly feel. Also within the first 800 miles the back brake failed due to the position of the reservoir on the engine. (Baked the fluid) So I followed your advice and bought a gen 2 sdr.
51 and slipping into your pipe, slippers and dotage! 57 and 2.5 years into my biking career, three bikes Suzuki GSX-S125 Honda CBR650R And now Ducati Panigale V2 Comparing the Rocket to a V4 Diavel the rocket is Lardy, costs 22k and DOESNT even have a quick shifter and blipper FFS I would take the Diavel (in 5 years perhaps) every day of the week! As for quality the rear pegs are a work of art but the top steering clamps round the front forks with rough casting joints un-finished and Naaaaaasty. The Rocket overpriced, lardy, a massive engine at 2.6 Ltr engine product less than 10 bhp more than my v2 Panigale with 955 cc! Nothing cool about that bike! Like a Harley but if possible even more crass!
Chops you need to try the Indian Challenger Dark Horse - big bagger/cruiser with great power and torque. You should grab a demo bike and then compare it against the Rocket 3, and Harley Road Glide. You would be surprised especially in Sport Mode. (Albeit the Challenger is more money in the Premium configuration than the Rocket 3, but they do have a base model around $23,999)
The only thing that makes me wonder about bikes like these is that everyone says they're for cruising around slowly and comfortably so do you really need a engine so massive for that when a smaller bike would be fine for that
It's always reminded me of the old Honda Valkyrie (F6C) and I never liked that either. I don't like the look of the Diavel either. Oh dear. Of the two though I'd probably go for the Ducati.
Great review Chops! Looking forward to the head to head with the Diavel, but i think the latest version has really moved away from the cruise category and is more of a supernaked 🤔
I like this bike a lot (not in chrome though) and prefer it over the old diavel… however the current one… I’m not sure as it seems like so much more fun. I’m looking forward to the comparison. Dang I’m getting old fast😢
I’m sure it’s a great bike, it’s just I see a lot of them for sale secondhand. Of course unsure how many they sold, it’s just unusual to see what I perceive as quite a few for sale secondhand.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of the diavel. I rode both and thought the diavel was a much better set up bike. Moves faster to as its 90 kg lighter.
I do like these bikes Chopsie but over £20k for a limited use bike, not sure it would be able to be an only bike, maybe you can answer that in the Diavel comparison?

Triumph are nailing it.
BTW i sent that before you said the exact same thing. 😂
Good review. As a GSXR1000 owner of a similar age to you (a bit older!), I'm tempted. Looking forward to the comparison with the Ducati. 😊
Absolute dream bike.
Nice review...l have the black r version..all black looks fantastic...l think this chrome version looks odd as the tank is the only chrome on it, needs more chrome in other places on the bike to even it out. Imo
You really need to ride one with the quickshifter as it transforms the ride and its silky smooth and the grin factor... good job chops.
Beautiful looking machine, I wouldn’t have the chrome,I’d have a painted version, if I was in the market for one and strong enough to hold it up move it around,
Rocket with TTS Supercharger,Oh yes
Hell yes!!
Pretty sure TTS got over 30bhp more with a simple remap as the ride by wire throttle says "no" when you ask for 100%
£22,695 for the Rocket 3 GT.
Love that bike, love the old ones too... Too expensive though!!
Stunning bike and worth every penny 👌
rocket is a art piece. but diavel is a monster machine ❤
Nice review Chops, thank you. I’d ditch the chrome for a shifter/ blipper & pillion seat delete. Unless Triumph have changed practices they send the Rocket out with the shock maxed out like concrete.. quick fiddle reqd 😂
Only residents of a care home would appreciate it 🤣
You need to hear that "spitfire" akro👌on the Duc
Great review & bike. What a beauty but as you say Chops I'd be scared to use it with that chrome finish. Nonetheless it's a fantastic machine & probably a dream bike but most probably not your only bike depending on the type of riding you do I guess. Also on a side note, be careful who you show your Rocket to when you're out & about lol.
Great review!
Does the rocket 3 run very hot in city to the point its uncomfortable?
You're the best performance cruiser x
Just sold my Rocket 3 after one month off ownership. Thought at the age off 55 i would be in that time to "settle" with a Rocket and fade away in a more mature me. Nope, switched to a MT10 SP 😁
Love the new Rocket. So much better than the old one. The only thing I could criticise it for was I thought it could do with a remap. My old rocket can trickle along in top gear but I couldn't do that with the new one and maybe a remap would sort that out. Otherwise it's the bike the original rocket should always have been.
Add a ceramic coating.
Great review sounds like your in love Chops ;)
Lamb Chop..when you rode the rocket 3, did you experience any water splashing/mud splashing to the back of your jacket?
Never been a fan . I have had something of all sorts but cannot see me ever entertaining one of those. A cult following no doubt but for sure a very narrow margin of people. None the less another top production 👌
Impracticle lump, but doesnt everybody want to ride one 😃 Mr chops rides the bestest motorcycles 2:14
Sounds like he needs to retire
You really need try it with quick shifter as it does make it more fun
Should have a spin on mine, remapped & Maxton front and back…. Mental
Pops and bangs nicely
Great enthusiasm. Would a BMW 1250r keep up in general Twisties and riding?
Yes it would, 1250 R is a great handling bike 👍
I'm not really that keen on the chrome option on most of the Triumphs; I'd prefer them just to be more adventurous with their paint. It looks amazing on the Rocket though. Definitely the scheme to go for. It's an amazing bike, for loons. I look forward to the match up with the Ducati. I can guess the winner.
Consider the Beamer Bagger? Looking forward to the Ducati comparison!
The chrome finish reminds me of the BSA bikes
Owned one for a few months, couldn't get away with it so sold it.
Whys that Peter?
@@LambChopRides truthfully mate it felt cheap, the headstock felt like it was going to snap, had a sort of wobbly feel.
Also within the first 800 miles the back brake failed due to the position of the reservoir on the engine. (Baked the fluid)
So I followed your advice and bought a gen 2 sdr.
What a stunning machine. I bought my first ever Triumph last week and I’m wondering why it’s taken me so long. Beautiful.
What's the green light on the dash that was permanently on in the vid?
At the end did you go A3 instead of A272? Best option these days, with the average speed cameras going up!
51 and slipping into your pipe, slippers and dotage!
57 and 2.5 years into my biking career, three bikes
Suzuki GSX-S125
Honda CBR650R
And now
Ducati Panigale V2
Comparing the Rocket to a V4 Diavel the rocket is Lardy, costs 22k and DOESNT even have a quick shifter and blipper FFS
I would take the Diavel (in 5 years perhaps) every day of the week!
Yeah love the look of those Indians 👍
@@LambChopRides Looking forward to the video…
The only thing that makes me wonder about bikes like these is that everyone says they're for cruising around slowly and comfortably so do you really need a engine so massive for that when a smaller bike would be fine for that
Just buy one already…!!! 🤣
It's always reminded me of the old Honda Valkyrie (F6C) and I never liked that either. I don't like the look of the Diavel either. Oh dear. Of the two though I'd probably go for the Ducati.
Great review Chops!
Looking forward to the head to head with the Diavel, but i think the latest version has really moved away from the cruise category and is more of a supernaked 🤔
que guantes llevas? gracias.
I would love a diavel
Got a feeling that Chopsy’s gonna have one of these in his garage soon…..
Looking forward to seeing what you think of the diavel. I rode both and thought the diavel was a much better set up bike. Moves faster to as its 90 kg lighter.
Diavel looks ugly compared
And it's not even a cruiser
@@flesz_ xdiavel is and you need to check out the nera. Limited edition. One of the nicest muscle bikes I’ve seen.
@@theonlyredspecial ok cool
Yeah that looks different
Chops, reckon you could get you hands on an old Rocket, be interested on your views/vlog. The new Rockets have made the older gens a bit cheaper
Very tricky to get on old secondhand bikes.. I will try though 👍
I need this bike.
I love my FatBob 114
Chopsie, roll the intro on a supercharged rocket 3 next.
I do like these bikes Chopsie but over £20k for a limited use bike, not sure it would be able to be an only bike, maybe you can answer that in the Diavel comparison?
Oh yes 😁👍
