I’m a forty four year old HGV driver and I want to change career to become an artist and art teacher. I have been studying through distance learning for a degree and it’s not easy balancing work, study, family life and artwork. But thanks to your inspirational and educational videos and podcasts I am now able to start exhibiting this year. Keep up the good work Andrew, it makes a difference to those of us who are struggling to realise our dreams.🎨👨🏻‍🎨👍🏻

I'm 62 and just getting back into it after 20+ years of never picking up a brush. It's tough getting started again, but I've also made great strides in a short time. Keep plugging away Neil and like Andrew mentioned in other videos, take every opportunity you can find and get in front of that canvas! Practice, practice, practice!

Boy, Andrew you hit the nail on the head. For me I follow you and other great artists and to be honest it depresses me, because I compare. Thank you for talking about not comparing my work with yours. That should have been obvious to me but I still did it. I will try and follow your advice.

Great tips Andrew! and good to see you, you have been MIA, figured you were painting and working on your impressive gallery! Wish I could see it live, but this is a taste. Your tips and clips are great for active artists, but i listen and watch for pleasure, and learning painting skills. i'm over the hill for much of the rest. So i tend to focus on wanting to see you paint which i learn a lot from. Those portrait videos were gold and served me well for understanding how to improve my portraits, the few I do. You have master skills my art friend, and share all you know with the world. Many congratulations on your accomplishments and for helping so many people who obviously agree!

Hi. I really appreciate all these videos and tips that you offer to those of us who like art, more as creators than as observers. I am self-taught, since I could never enjoy any kind of art studio, but it inspires me to see him work. Even with the language barrier (I am Latin and I speak Spanish) I am able to understand enough to follow his advice.

Improve from material and framing, I actually just framed all my art paintings with good product frames making my paintings look more amazing. I do got to practice on not to rush.... but besides all. Awesome tips for everyone. Thanks for your comments on my paintings via Facebook chat.. until your next video Andrew . Have a good one (mate)

Hi Andrew, ever since I was a kid I loved art, and always looked at tiny details, which many asked why don't I just sale my work? I never did and just painted for family and friends and never saw my paintings, unless I visited them. Fast forward into my twenties painting became a distance memory as kids, work and general living taken over, I never picked up a paint brush until now in my mid forties. Thank you so much Andrew your video's inspired me to start painting again, and I'm looking forward to my first exhibit later this year, you are surely a talented artist that I have learnt so many tips and tricks from. Love your work. ❤️

Great to see you back Andrew. Your gallery is awesome. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with your TH-cam channel. I have gained so much information from your videos, podcasts and especially the sketch endeavor. I was pleasantly surprised when I started to draw animals that actually look like animals!! For some reason I hated drawing, and didn't think I was very good at it, but now realize it takes time but sometime the results are good. Mainly do landscapes but want to make them a little more interesting with animals and small buildings. Thanks again for your generous sharing of your time and vast talent. You are truly a Master.

I like to add another "tip" if I may say so and that is enjoy. If you truly enjoy what you're doing it will be noticable in your work. I'm not an expert considering painting or drawing but I do love every second I spent with drawing and painting. Put your heart into it and enjoy. It's a special dimention you feed in to your art. If I look at Andrews art, this is what I see.... joy and perfection.

I love watching your videos and have implemented your easel and pallet stand! It is FABULOUS! I have recently decided that 2020 would be the year I stopped talking about doing it and get to it. Everyday I make certain I am painting or drawing something. I have had some obstacles in the way over the years, however 2020 is looking so much better with doing not just saying. Thank you for that! I love watching all of your videos your Golden Ratio Composition Secret... Changed my entire way of thinking. I didn't even realize I was already doing that in my body of work without knowing about it. AMAZING! Looking forward to seeing what you do next. Grateful

As always I absolutely love your Channel. If you ever get time to discuss different painting techniques such as grisaille and alla prima along with different glazing techniques, and what brush works best for the applications, I know you've gone over some of these in other videos, I feel that it might be very beneficial for beginning artists, myself included, to explore different techniques so that they might find the one that works best for them, possibly even combining techniques. My best clients I found by accident. I met a guy on a social media platform who was into classic cars (as I am). Befriended him, and it turned out he was quite wealthy, works in the classical music industry, lives in London and collected traditional art. He's bought about 7 pieces of mine, and told a classical musician friend about me, who I've now friended and he's commissioned me. He in turn has told another classical musician friend who wants some of my work to.
I met woman in france online who owned a vintage furnishings shop because I was looking for a mirror for my studio. I found one, we got chatting, and it turned out she was looking for an artist to paint some designs on furniture and someone to paint a picture for a hotel she was doing up. I did the work she wanted, and recommended me to another friend in France, who commissioned me, and wants more doing.

Hi Andrew - I would love a quick clip about “oiling out” from you! I am using liquin original as my medium, yet I’m still unable to find quality instruction online on exactly how and when/how often I should be oiling out to revitalise the colours. I’m having trouble progressing the painting when I can barely see it 😕 would also love a further recommendation on where in the process oiling out should fall with regard to Retouch Varnish (and whether another different varnish is used six months later - do you recollect works back from the client to varnish them again in a year?!).
Thank you so much for all your hard work and beautiful paintings.

I have been very guilty of comparing myself to established artists, so I appreciate the reminder to "not rush". Another great tip thank you, I have been watching and listening to you since you started your video/podcast shows. I live in the remote North of Western Australia, my art career has been a true slow burn, in saying this I have got to the point where I earn double from my art than my 'day job'. Realistically I need to drop my job and step full time into the business to keep up with demand. Love your work Andrew, question how to develop your own style. I love to paint with a philosophical meaning in my paintings. I als o love the style of Gustav Klimt. Which kind of style of painting did you start with Andrew?

Thanks for the tips. I think they are very important and you are right. One of the things that I hear from all over the world and that I see in many artists is that for them tel be seen, you have to be an open and show off person. I have the problem of being a shy person and I do not feel comfortable doing the things that other artists do, and I think that closes me many doors and that today many places only look for appearance in the artist rather than the art itself. Do you think is true or not? I'm sorry if I don't explain myself well, English is my second language.

Hey Monica, I totally understand what you mean. There is still a way around this though. You don't have to "show off" to show your work. You can still be behind a camera and not in front of it. Let your work take centerstage and just put it out there. Let the work take the credit for you. GO for it.

hey Andrew when are you gonna put the video on how to paint clear water, those six commissions that you had?

Thank you so muchAndrew!! I have a possible Q&A video topic for you. Varnishing your originals...I have watched your video on varnishing, and fully understand the importance of waiting 6 months to varnish your paintings. However, this creates a problem for those of us who are trying to sell these pieces. How should we go about marketing and selling original pieces while still maintaining the integrity of these pieces, and not varnishing them. Ultimately, I want all my originals to be protected with a final varnish, but I can't hold on to them for that long. Any advice is highly appreciated.

It’s great to have you back Andrew! Another great video with some excellent advice that I’m trying my best to follow although I do think that I should definitely pay attention to the quality of my photos that I post on Instagram 😁. It would be great to have your advice on how to present a website, what sort of key things that you have found helpful for yourself and the person visiting. Thanks in advance....... Dawn

Hi Dawn, I don't think I'll be addressing this topic because I think there are many others out there far more qualified. I would look into platforms that support drag and drop templates. Some are even built for artists. A buddy of mine uses Squarespace and he built it himself with no "Know how". I think it's slick!

Thank you for this Andrew! Really appreciated! Step 1 is the one I have to keep going back to!! For your future Q&A I think something covering the email I sent you a while ago may be nice. Your comment then was regarding criticism by peers, family and friends (in caps!) "only show your work (for criticism) to people who have what you want". How did you go about getting criticism in your career? At the beginning vs now? Thanks again!!
