Nice mower for what you got it for! You should change the hydro fluid and flush the system to check for metal fragments for the hours it probably has on it. Also check the belts for cracking and the clutch is adjustable on them there is 3 slot to fit a .015 feeler guage. Machine should mow and run like a top. Great Machines I've owned a good many scags for my business
Nice! I just finished a Simplicity Citation myself. Hydro issues, sat for quite awhile so had to replace everything fuel related as well but it’s 17 years old with only 114 hours. Feels so good to save these Zero Turns.👍
I wished you were my neighbor I love to see old things restored because they aren’t made like they use to be. I loved the hustler raptor restoration I have a Hustler raptor 42” a 2018 model I keep it maintained…I do a tune up kit every year along with changing the blades. I do have a problem with it not tracking straight which drives me crazy. I tried to fix it myself but I’ll be putting it in the shop to have that part fixed
I did all of this on a Onan Performer 16 that is on a Miller 225G. Minus replacing the heads. I used a nylon brush to clean all of the carbon along with Easy-Off oven cleaner. It worked like a champ and the engine runs great and it welds good too. Great work.
New subscriber today as I am now retired. I have more time to watch regularly and learn to do this myself. I have always tinkered with mower restoration but, after watching you I can probably do more. I just got a trailer load from a flea market so I’m gonna be busy for awhile. Thank you for the great content.
Love the epic reassembly music!! Nice work hiding those extra bolts. To avoid frustration I recommend you try starting it BEFORE you put everything back in place. It really sucks to have missed something stupid and have to disassemble again!
Had to do the same head gasket on my Kohler V-twin. The valves and rockers were noisy, had to go back and adjust the clearance on intake and exhaust valves. They were way out after replacing the head gaskets.
The clogged air fins causing no circulation of air, I say, was the cause of engine failure. It got so hot it expanded the valve seat on one side and blew the head gasket on the other side. I've worked on many, many mowers where engine overheating has caused engine failure. I've seen the park district run these 4-5000 hrs and beat to death but they keep the bearing greased and have regular maintenance, but they look terrible
Nice restoration. Did you change the air and oil filters? Grease the axles? Lubricate all the moving parts? I think you have a little more work to, yes? :) This machine looks like a keeper! :)
Apparently this motor does not have valve adjustment you just have to tighten them and thats it. And I didn’t have to clean the carb or replace the gas the mower just started right up! I was surprised but I’m assuming previous owner used good gas in it 👍
@Ace.Fisher yeh ok I've never heard of them like that but that's good if that's the case. Ah fair enough, yeh I've just seen some like Mustie1 channels, and the fuel and csrby are usually shot. The few motors ive done has been that way too but think they were just not looked after.
You must lap the head AND the block area where the head gasket sits. Every mower engine I've opened the head is not flat. Tossing on new gaskets only will not be a good repair.
Running a mower or trimmer engine at a low idle is NOT recommended. Why? You have way less cooling air to cool the engine. That is an air cooled engine. Keep her at max revs and let her eat.
This video came up in my feed. Started to watch it. 5 seconds in and the audio was horrendous. Nope, not going to watch any more or subscribe to this channel. Too many other creators out there doing excellent work with better production qualities.
awesome restoration. it's amazing to see how the lawn mower has been revived. Lots of repair videos on your channel, Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and we are looking for yourtubers to work with to share more tips and tricks on small engine repairing maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.

She is going to be a great helper in a few weeks. 👍🏼
Yes for sure :)
Blessed with both parents ❤

Thanks! Definitely will be doing a full maintenance on it, it will all be in part 3.
Laughed my butt off at the 22:32 second mark. You've got my kind of sense of humor, dude.

😂 No extra bolts or parts, huh? Your helper is a cutie. Nice restoration thus far.
Thank you 😆
Let’s go, that’s a successful repair!
Thank you!

Nice !! That's a sweet mower
Thank you!

Your expert helper has it all figured out already!
I have bought two Scags to rebuild. Love them but that was a deal you got there.
Great job!
Thank you!
Seems it’s not cooling enough
I missed the first part of video
But it’s clear sign of cooling and air circulation problem
Love your helper, so cute 🥰
Yes and now that it’s so clean shouldn’t be a problem!
And thank you!

Nice 👍 this model doesn’t have adjusting on the valves but they are ticking pretty loud!
She’s so smart.
She is :)

Love your videos brother 👏
Thank you!!
Good job señor
Thank you!
Very nice, now let’s see your paint skills, get that sand paper and paint brush out, the spray detail and seal coat. In the next video show us.
Cutest helper
Thank you!

I did a lot of what you mentioned but now I most likely need a whole new engine 😬
@@Ace.Fisherwhy? I know thoes lifters kept getting seized up. Thus bending the pushrod.
Man, where did you learn to do this...?
Hey mate, good find for sure.
Just wonderig, won't you have to readjust the valves for timing?
And did you drain and clean the fuel tank and carbys.
Apparently this motor does not have valve adjustment you just have to tighten them and thats it.

Gotta fix the oil leak. Almost certainly the upper crank seal under the flywheel
Yes 100% but thankfully the leak is a simple fix I will address it in part 3 video.
Use non ethanol gas and Sea Foam treatment in fuel tank will keep carbon build up down.
You must lap the head AND the block area where the head gasket sits. Every mower engine I've opened the head is not flat. Tossing on new gaskets only will not be a good repair.
Inaccurate torque on the heads using an extension. Its a vtwin tho it should be fine.
Straight extensions don't affect torque. Using an impact with an extension will decrease torque.
The way that thing is smoking i would say it got hot enough that you have stuck rings....
Are you gonna put new spark plugs in it
Good idea I probably should!
Those leftover parts were from your daughters motor.😁
Yep 😆

Don’t matter if you watch or not
But no need to cut him down is there ?😢
At least he's out here doing something why you got to be such a hater.
Great job man.
Thank you!
