Gold Mine - Did you know about the " Tubal Cain Mine " ? ... It was right behind where you are Camping/ the sign with the 1km walk " Tubal Cain Walk " ... i think it's a Gold Mine. There is very LITTLE information about in online. ANYONE know anything about the Deptford Gold Mine there ? Thank You and the Video was awesome !

Hi Peter no I don't know any thing about the mine, it would be good to have a look for it I try to find more about it and may be next year I go for a look for it if I can

We have walked down into the mine in late 2020 - the walking track starts just across from the campsite in this video. Some sections are a little overgrown and a little steep. When you get to the mine there is some old mining machinery and the entrance to the tunnel on the right. You can walk in around 50 odd meters (standing upright) and then it’s slightly caved in - if your small enough you could get through, we had small kids with us so didn’t want to go any further. Definitely worth a look!

Great camping at Deptford. Stanton's place is named after my great grandmother who died there.

@@JimMcNabb44 Sorry for the late reply Jim, no she's buried in the Bairnsdale cemetery as this happened much later in the 1970s. I have seen the Deptford cemetery, very sad with only one obvious gravesite remaining. Deptford has seen at least 3 significant bushfires pass through since the town was abandoned in the 1940s. I'm amazed that hut was still standing in 1985! Wow. I've never seen that photo before, do you mind me asking where you came across it and whether there are any more photos from that time? Thank you.

@@fordfalcon85 Hi Chris I think I took the only photo of the last hut that I can find now I put it up on the Vic register and the time it was taken one wall had falling down and the next year I went there it was was just a heap of wood, the grave yard is now marked there are two yards and you can see a few graves after a fire, with the lockdown I don't think I get back soon but I do like the place.
