    Fluid used was Nissan Matic-S which replaced matic J. Both are interchangeable and can be mixed is what I have been told

      In my opinion, this is as far as you should go with an auto. It won’t get all the fluid out of the converter, but it gets most of it out and a flush can damage the transmission, so this works.

    • @ed92374
      @ed92374 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dannyjohnsonsgarage What I have heard to do a flush is you disconnect the line going to the transmission cooler, and start the car, use a container like a gallon milk container, drain a gallon and then turn off the car and fill a new gallon into the transmission. Then start the car again and drain another gallon, shut down the car add another gallon to the transmission. Then start it again and drain another gallon, shut it down and top it off at the dipstick (totaling approximately 12 quarts, the capacity of the transmission). Reconnect the line and now you have a total transmission flush (unlike the 5 quarts this poster drained).

      Hardstyler981 If you have a filter swap it out as well. They just pull off. As for flushing, the main concern is the machine will still have the other fluid in it and flushing applies pressure in a way that is hard on the seals. There are many videos out there about it. Check one out.

    If you're only able to get 4 or 5 quarts out when draining it, should you do the same process a couple weeks later to drain the rest? that way most of the fluid is fresh, or is there a way to drain it from the Converter directly?

Thank you for the hard work and sharing with us.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it actually does matter on this particular car. You need to use the matic S or matic J. These transmissions must have the Nissan fluid in them or their fail rate is almost certain. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is. Even taking the car somewhere to have it flushed can ruin it for just that reason alone- extra fluid of another type being mixed in their machine if it wasn't cleaned out.
      I do not plan on any further changing of the fluid. It would be nice, but its close enough. Its been almost a full year and no problems.
      Thanks for watching :)

The car is driving a lot better now. When I crank the ignition the car starts up fine but I get two lights. The check engine soon light comes on and stays on. Jay Elliott On the service engine soon light you’ll need to have the car scanned to see what it’s for- mine is in for one of the two sending units being bad for the fuel pumps. On the AT light I would think it’s a fault code, but good that it turns off. I’ve seen a few mustangs that have transmission computer issues and though nothing seems wrong with the transmission it disables the trans and has to be replaced

      You won’t get all the fluid out by only draining it because a lot of it is still up in the torque converter and the cooling system. Flushes can damage the system, so it’s best in my option to change the fluid only, and then change it again a few months later to get more of it out of the system.

      Lex Lea you’ll have to drain all the fluid, then take all the bolts off that hold the pan on. After that you should find the rest of the dip stick wand. Unless you’re saying it’s missing entirely, if that’s the case then get a new one I suppose
