    As much as I love the old stompy box dred, the Redemptor chaise is such an amazing upgrade. I'm still torn between Flesh Tearers and Celestial Lions though.

      @rosasakura4172 Sonic Sledgehammer has a pretty good tutorial on Celestial Lions. It's for a standard intercessor but you could probably apply it to vehicles easily enough.

    I'm glad you mentioned the often overlooked feature of using Contrast paints as basecoats. Even when you plan to paint completely over, starting with a quick layer of Contrast paint can help tremendeously with the coverage of any paint painted on top of it. For example, if I am painting Deathwing Terminator Captain's cloak in Caliban green, starting from Dark Angels green Contrast basecoat makes it lot easier.
    There is also the psychological aspect in quick basecoats and making progress that helps to keep you motivated.

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you nailed it exactly, getting through that first stage quickly and getting paint on your models fast makes such a difference and keeps you going’

    This is a great tutorial! I've finally decided how I will paint my Leviathan thanks to you :D
    One question - when you're applying Khorne Red, are you watering it down a bit, or is it straight from the pot?

    • @MediocreHobbies

    Love the finish man! I'm looking to make mine a Dark Angles one, but the tips you shared were helpful. I like the addition of adding the weathering with the sponge 👍👍 Were you not tempted to add any additions like missiles mid launch or anything? Also I assume you printed the 3d logos yourself or did you buy them from somewhere?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they’re from cults3D! I don’t really have enough time to do things like missiles mid launch haha but they’d be easy enough to do if you wanted to add something extra, especially if you have more than one and wanted them to look different!

    So a quick question, when loading up your brush with the contrast paints how do you know how much paint is just right and how much is too much?

    • @MediocreHobbies

      My brush has a lot in it. I prefer over applying and then removing the excess. This gives me the best look I feel.

    • @hannupajula1422

      It makes the red looks smoother and Khorne red covers better over Flesh Tearers red than it would over Grey Seer. It's a bit counter-intuitive but starting with an additional layer of Contrast paint actually saves a lot of time and effort.

  • @JohnnyTightIips
    @JohnnyTightIips ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Contrasts have reinvigorated my love of painting, they're so easy to use and the finish is probably better than I would manage otherwise, because I never tended to do more than basecoats and washes (not often one for highlighting except by drybrushing), so contrasts are a godsend for me. Mr Balistus looks great!

    For Khorne Red and Corvus Black, did you paint it all over the previous contrast sections or just some selected parts? The red looks smooth all across the model so I wasn’t sure. Awesome paint job. Absolutely love it!!!

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's almost over all of the panels, leaving the contrast paint as a shade/shadow in any recessed areas! Hope that makes sense? Thanks so much!

    Another great video, I can't wait to get my hands on my own Leviathan set!
    I really enjoy your contrast painting method videos. Have you ever considered doing them for multiple different schemes? With a box of intercessors you could paint one of each in different popular schemes: Ultramarines, Iron Fists, Salamanders, White Scars, etc. It'd be time consuming for you, but making reference videos like that would get people searching for the scheme they want to paint finding your channel. It's only an idea, feel free to ignore it! Your vids deserve to be seen by more people.

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, hope you enjoy your set when you get it! I’ve done a whole series on each legion for horus heresy! I know some of them are different but most of the contrast schemes in it can be used in 40k too!
      Totally agree it would be a great idea to do that with an intercessor squad though! I might eventually get around to it 🤞 videos like that are always popular and they help so many people!
      Really appreciate your kind words, thanks so much

    so I have a Question ? im super new to Warhammer and I bought the leviathan box set. now I don't know anything about the lore but I wanted to know I love the look and story behind the dark angles. I wanna paint my models from the box set the dark angles green. my question is can I paint every one of the models green except for the white one I'm gonna do the white. but like the captain and the librarian can they be green also?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Welcome to the hobby! Excellent choice with Dark Angels, they're super cool and nice to paint as well! First of all they're your models, so you can paint them however you like! If you'd like to go with traditional colours though, the apothecary is usually white, and the librarian is usually blue. They're usually done like that, no matter what army they belong to, but again it's up to you! The captain for Dark Angels can done in a bone coloured armour to make him stand out as the captain, look up at reference for Death Wing, could be cool to try out and make him look different but he can be green if you'd prefer! Please ask any other questions you have, I'm happy to help!

    That is an impressive paint job, not gonna lie. Personally if I think I'd do something you've painted differently that does detract from your painting at all. Certainly not in my eyes. They're often only minor changes anyway I think, and you give me lots of great ideas. 🙂 You keep doing you.
