    Fun fact!
    The large rectangular piece with the view port on it in the middle of the dreadnought is actually a refridgerator that houses all the temperature sensitive lunch supplies like Custodes-Cola and space ham! The view port is there because one lucky marine must sit inside it to guard those most precious supplies while piloting the large robot.
    Also the hand is there so he can reach stuff on the top shelves of Last Wallmarts

    An amazing paint job I’m going to have to give this 100 out of 100 because I never thought about using that paint on the dreadnought I always use ultramarine blue on mine

    I’ve read my Kotex religiously, and I must say, all your technical terminology is correct. Only thing I’d point out is, instead of wiping off the oil paint splatters with an ear plunger, you should use the pads supplied with the Kotex. Then, you can run up a beach with your red setter, or a canine pal of your choice. Excellent video. Thank you.

    I am returning back to Warhammer 40k gaming after more than a decade away from the hobby. The best way for me to get back into it, in my honest opinion, is the Warhammer Imperium Magazine. I get an army of necrons and one of ultramarines by the end of the magazine's 80 issues. so... your recent Ultramarine videos have been very inspirational. Back when I was in the hobby, it didn't get more advanced than Prime/Base-Coat/Wash/Drybrush, or the classic Games Workshop 'Eavy Metal method. I am loving the advances in paints and painting techniques, as well as the increased detail in model quality. Thank you for all you are doing Dad. :)

    dreadnaughts are cool, back in the day they used to be super chunky, they are very aesthetically pleasing i think.
    the dreadnaught Ancient Rylanor is someone you should read about. short version is that he was an Emperor's Children space marine dreadnaught and when his dad told the Emperor that they weren't friends anymore Rylanor got sad. Then he was abandoned on Istvaan III after the little incident known as the "Istvaan III Atrocity" and then tricked his dad to come there after a few thousand years and decided to blow a nuke in his face. he is a very cool dude.

      @@Groundeffected it absolutely is. I used a rattle can to do the volumetric lighting (which wasnt as precise but still works) and then panel-lined/wiped away excess. Once it was good to go i used the contrast paint to hit the high spots and then a darker one for below. i found that i just needed to do a little wet blending between the two to really get the transition but if i, a ham-fisted new painter can pull it off, you can too. just gotta give it a go. side note, contrast paint is super easy to clean off if you're unhappy with the result. it took me two tries to get it right so dont be afraid to mess it up.

    I love your method for this, but just a small change in your order of operations (your process) will help you. Do this next time: Prime > zenethil > airbrush your contrast blue > gloss varnish > apply your transfers > apply your oil wash > clean the oil wash > matte varnish > paint your other details. Again, i'm not trying to tell you how to do your thing here. Its easier to do your decal/oil phase together over a gloss varnish. Viscosity and all that stuff.

    • @xTheZapper
      @xTheZapper 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He says in the video that he's doing it that way, oil wash then blue rather than blue then black because he wants the dark areas to be dark blue rather than black. It's a similar technique to preshading used by virtually all military modellers.

    Did you varnish between oil wash and contrast? Gonna try this technique on killteam set tomorrow!

    • @Groundeffected
      @Groundeffected  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea. I just spray a clear lacquer from a spray can. Don’t go too thick or you’ll fill the details. But a light misting just to seal in the ink.

    When you apply the oil wash and then clean it up, how long do you need it to cure?
    I read that oil takes a while to cure and if it doesn’t cure fully, paint on top of it/varnish might crack.
    Cheers, great video!

    Can you just fire those contrast paints through the air brush or do you need to water / thin them down too ? And awesome video the model looks sick dude 👌

    • @pedrobento2429
      @pedrobento2429 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to thin them or they will come out uneven

    • @Groundeffected
      @Groundeffected  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can totally paint them through the air brush without thinning I thin them to make tints but some are a tiny bit thicker than others and they need to be thinned it just depends on the situation and the specific paint.

    But... you didn't use white this time for edge highlight, did you? It's more like blue grey wolf kind of color, isn't it? I also think it looks great that way.

    • @Groundeffected
      @Groundeffected  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea totally did dude. Maybe it’s a bit thinner than usual. Just trying to find the right consistency for consistent lines.

    • @Groundeffected

      It doesn’t take too long about an hour or so.

    I love this project.
    I started one myself,and beginning to build a warhammer army.
    My question is , how many layers do you spray on the model ,do you thin the paint?

    This should work with pretty much any color right?
    Like for instance a Rhinox Hide base, white volumetric, and then a transparent green for a certain dead boi army hmm
