    Astonishing grafting.. Have seen first time.. Especially a type of "lock & key" making on Scion and root stock for auto fit of Scion on root stock.

    If it is prepared the right way, a dormant peace can last up to 3 months. Place it in the area where you place your vegetables. Once the wood starts to push out, then is time to graft. Use teflon tape - is a great sealer of air, then on top of it use electrical tape which is elastic and will expand with the wood, then is easy to peel off or the sun will eventually cook it and fall off if you forget to do so after 4 months or so. February is the time to graft in Southern California.

  • @eliteagle75
    @eliteagle75 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @llcyll Allow me to answer this. "Yes" you can graft an Apple scion to a pear tree and the opposite. Any kind of apple can be graft to any kind of pear. This is the perfect time to do so in the South California Area. You must find a dormant scion to graft into an active pear. At this time of the year, it is easier to graft a pear into an apple because most apples are waking up from dormacy and Pears are still dormant. You can use teflon tape to seal all air and electrical tape to prevent sunburn

    I agree. The producers have taken the time to photograph the close-up details very carefully so that you can really see how the grafts are done. So many of these other videos are useless because of the poor quality photography.

    Another reason is to prevent the bark from cracking in the spring. During the winter, the outside bark can freeze, and then when hit by the sun they warm up and expand. The constant warming (expanding) and freezing (contracting) can cause the bark to crack, making an open wound that infection or insects can enter through.
    By painting the bark white, it reflects more sunlight and reduces heating to help keep the tree safe.

    I haven't seen that extra cut used before. Is it used for extra stability for mounting or make it mount better? (The cut that goes back down towards the roots on the stump and towards the buds on the scion.)
