One thing I'm curious about is whether Allison knew or not. I'm assuming she did, in which case, doesn't seem like it quite meets the conditions of fooling the people he's performing to. Obviously the show is about fooling Penn and Teller, but it seems like a tough magic trick to keep secret, if I'm right.
@@LtSMASH324 No, Allison didn't knew the words, she literally reads them from a card, but to her those symbols have meaning. There's a way to do this with waves from a thingy, but I don't remember to correctly to say for sure.

It makes more sense that the cards he put on the desk had the correct things written on them. That would be the whole point of him “going through” the cards. To make it look random, but it’s actually just an excuse to lay the card on the table for her to read.
4:35 - "You're doing a pretty good job so far" "Well, you gave me boba" - I have a feeling Alyson nearly gave the game away there, given where she keeps looking while you're talking!

The magicians are not allowed to use people who work on the show as actors or stooges. I believe the effect was done in such a way that Alison saw the words in English but we saw the words in Mandarin. It's a variation of an age old trick.
@@HurricaneSA There is one exception to that. The magicians are not allowed PRE ARRANGED stooges. They are allowed to recruit people who have been randomly selected, once they are on stage. No reason it can't be both: Write the first set of single-word answers on the cup, and for phrases have them showing on the discarded cards. Once she's on to the game it's easy to get her to watch for the clues wherever they are.
They cannot lie about how they do or don’t do something, they have to explain the trick to a jury beforehand and if they lie, they’re disqualified and/or Penn and Teller are told in their earpiece (or Alison). If he says no palming then there’s no palming.

It's not done using some digital ring either. He confirms that in that same video, but more importantly, he's not wearing it on that vegas show either. My theory, then, and I think I'm pretty spot-on, is that as he's putting the previous card on the table, he actually puts the answer to the next card next to it as well. Then, it would just be a matter of having that card say "NEXT ANSWER IS: CHICKEN" and Alyson just playing along, which she does really well. Thus, it's a good old "sleigh of hand" trick with a really clever twist! That was an amazing trick and I can't remember the last time I was so clueless about how it's done. 是 is not Mandarin for yes. It's closer to "is." If she could really speak Mandarin, her response would have been hui, or 会, which as a response to the question means "I can."
Extore - fair enough. I didn’t want to go into a big discussion of grammar and foreign speakers of mandarin but I’m sure you’ll agree that primary anglophones who are learning mandarin often struggle with the concept of using verbs to affirm instead of a general-use “yes”. They will often use 是 and 不是 for “yes” and “no” in almost any situation until they get better at it. All I’m saying is that for a small moment he thought she might speak a bit.
From the little I know of Chinese, the Chinese characters were the actual translation of what was written in English and what Allison said. I studied it for three years and it's just as difficult as everyone says, so I'm way impressed that Allison learned it in three seconds! Now I know, the key ingredient was Boba milk tea all along...

Wow! Unbelievable delivery! I’ve watched DOZENS of magicians, not just on Penn and Teller’s show, but also with their own online platforms in the past several weeks alone. There are MANY talented performers out there with a variety of style and talents, and they’re almost always very impressive and mind-boggling to watch. I’m particularly impressed by these two men and the two David’s: Blaine and Copperfield (I saw the latter live in Las Vegas, front row seats courtesy of the Bellagio VIP concierge, from about 30-50 feet away at all times!). However, I was also completely blown away by your talent and showmanship! Absolutely BRILLIANT work! It’s not just about the incredible skill involved, but perhaps more importantly in your case is the care that goes into your unique presentation to the audience. This is the main aspect that I believe made Teller get so choked up over your work. As you know, Teller is immensely talented and experienced himself and is considered by many, myself included, to be easily one of the top skilled magicians alive today in terms of both technique and presentation. You both have an incredibly unique style and an incredible amount of nuanced ability that sets you apart from ALL of the rest out there. I think the emotion invoked in Teller’s face is VERY clear proof that you have something that just leaves your audience utterly speechless and in awe of what they have just seen! I have NEVER once seen Teller so moved before! Absolutely astounding and breathtaking work! And you’re so incredibly young to already have such a rare and distinct ability, enough to truly set you apart in Teller’s mind and mine as well! Clearly, a one in a million kind of act from such a truly gifted and brilliant mind! This was an absolute masterpiece! (Technically, I haven’t watched THIS particular video as of yet, I have only watched the one with the Polaroid-style card trick that you did to try to fool the amazing Vegas duo. I was so impressed that I immediately wanted to see more of your work, so I clicked a link to land here for the next illusion. Yet I am already very impressed and moved by the last one!) Spectacular! I will watch this one and others, and I have already subscribed to your channel and look forward to more upcoming videos! Fantastic (literally!) work! Kudos! Keep it up! 😁

When Kevin asked Allison if she spoke Chinese, I totally thought she responded 是 which really impressed me. Lmao later I figured out she was probably saying "sure"
I remember these suckers that vibrated and when u put them in your mouth you heard music... the level of the tea never goes down. I believe the metal straw is perfect for transferring the vibration and she was suprised to find that it made recognizable sounds when she put it in here mouth... which explains her comment about the straw and her suprised recoil when first "sipping" the tea.
I really like how confident and well spoken you are. So much better presentation than other magicians, who struggle to compose a full sentence and stay calm.
Wow man, forget the trick, you put me in tears with your reaction at the end, and yes I am awestruck at the relaxed P&T and Allison. I was wondering if this was a hypnotic magic show?
Wow somehow missed this for years. What a fun routine. Love seeing your family come out. Both times you were on the some it was just really wholesome stuff.
There has to be something Alison sees that we don’t. Because she had a face that looked like she knew something that she knew the audience wasn’t supposed to know
Watch at 8:30. The answers are on top of the cup. TELLERS face says it all. He starts to rub the cup and has a curious/confused face as soon as he looks at the cup. It must be taped to the bottom of the lid in some way.
From what I've noticed, the trick is much simpler than that. If you look at the black table, you'll notice that the side facing Alison is significantly more polished/shiny. As a result, I think she can see the reflection of what the card says on the backside whenever she looks down at the card he's holding. Notice how he always holds the card over that right hand tableside
I remember seeing a version of this trick on AGT with Howie Mandel. The magicians made it seem like Howie magically forgot how to read, when he would see gibberish written on a card instead of the very simple words to the audience. Can't remember the name of those magicians though!
I think he's giving her each of the answers for the next card during the "translation" of the previous card. So when he does the "No" card, his left hand and spread fingers reveal "Chicken". When he does chicken, at 4:19, you can see "Fool Us" would be visible through his fingers on his left hand - which he uses to gesture while "translating" chicken.
@@ChaoticRain1 I think this one completely different. That version on AGT named 100th monkey, while this one is more complicated P.S : i thought about that trick too when i saw this trick haha

loved it I am a lover of seeing magic not doing it I can watch it for hours and I do I allow myself 3 hours of binge watching every 2 days
Joey Rivera respect
To take something personal and give it such a "wow" factor is amazing. Can't wait to see more tricks. This is a great style for you. Keep the emotional connection in your magic. It really sets you apart as a talent.
I really don't care how you did this. The idea is soooo original and I hope you continue to show the world magic like this. Thank you.
Thanks for kind words man
Nice! Allison is fun to watch try stuff! Pretty cool magic trick! The older you get.. I believe you'll create very deceptive illusions.. I cant wait to see more of your work!
Damn both your appearances made me cry for totally different reasons! I love that your tricks are sweet, beautiful and kind…not just taking someone’s watch or fake stabbing your hand, but actually well thought out and sentimental as well as focused on you and your life. Wonderful!
😂 1:44 when Alison answers “Sure” it sounded a bit like the mandarin for “yes” so I think that took him aback for a moment.
no?
um, not really
:) Boba is one magical drink
but please tell me , that is allison is in this
@@harshdevsharma6397 It's against the rules of the show. They can't use planted audience members or volunteers.
@@henrytawnn8694 ya but the rule is they cant have pre assisted stooges but can have instant stooges
@@harshdevsharma6397 Kevin Li is in the comments, confirming she was not in on this. In a video he even explains why he chose her, because they don't time to set up anything with the host because the only time they see them is on the stage.
So proud of you to have repped us so well - as a fan of p&t and having watched you grow, what a moment!!! Congrats again :’)
Also the bbt was a good touch
Thanks Jodi!
I just saw you on Valkyrae’s birthday stream! I get chills every time I see your performances. 10/10
Kudos! Keep it up! 😁
Thanks for the kind words! Let me know your thoughts on this one too :)
man your truly an inspiration. im 30 years old and love watching magic and trying to figure out how it was done and this was executed so perfectly. i hope you bought some good sunglasses man, you got a pretty bright future. (lame dad joke i know)
Thank you Michael!
When Kevin asked Allison if she spoke Chinese, I totally thought she responded 是 which really impressed me. Lmao later I figured out she was probably saying "sure"
What does that symbol mean that you thought she responded
@@EikottXD It means "yes" pronounced "Shi"
Congrats well deserved I'm glad you finally did it . From Kingston Jamaica west indies
Oh no he did it from LA, California, USA I guess
I think you have kick ass tricks man keep it up I can't get enough of it bravo man! come up with something and go fool'em again bro!
I feel like that would be too risky because the sounds would get picked up on her mic.. but definitely think the tricks lies inside the boba
I really like how confident and well spoken you are. So much better presentation than other magicians, who struggle to compose a full sentence and stay calm.
Thank you!
There are some magic acts, I don't ever want to know how it was done. I really, really enjoyed how unique and mind-boggling an effect this was.
Wow man, forget the trick, you put me in tears with your reaction at the end, and yes I am awestruck at the relaxed P&T and Allison. I was wondering if this was a hypnotic magic show?
No its not lmfaooooooo
This act was so good because it was unlike any other magic act and it had its completly own style which I absolutly loved. Congrats on fooling them👍
Thank you!
Wow somehow missed this for years. What a fun routine. Love seeing your family come out. Both times you were on the some it was just really wholesome stuff.
I actually learned Chinese in my school for 4 years so it was cool to actually know what you were saying as well as the characters.
Thats great!
Same! Haha
That version on AGT named 100th monkey, while this one is more complicated
P.S : i thought about that trick too when i saw this trick haha
Love the emotion when they said you fooled them. Great moment
WHAT!!! I think the cards were see-through with the light... she could read the translation. What a great guy this kid is... can't wait to watch more of him!
nope has nothing to do with lightning
Speaker in the straw??
Kevin, this just proves that you're getting better and better. What a great trick! And I'm a absolutely thrilled for you! I know this was a dream come true for you. I experienced a dream come true at the age of 21, very close to your age I think so I completely relate. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. And congratulations!
This kid is so smooth... he definitely wants to know what happened in band camp.
Shit I know what happened and I'm ok with that
I love the jaw clench when he hands her the Fool Us card and you can see on his face that he's just praying that she decides to go along with whatever the trick is :P Well done though!
But how did she get forest?
Or any of the other ones before fool us 😂
@@follower8815 Forrest is just a picture of two trees. But the others... No idea 😂

Good on you brother, I found you on TH-cam. You make the Asians proud. Well done
I love it when good guys win. Congrats.
I love this. I am learning basic Mandarin and I was really drawn to this. Thank you Kevin, and well done!
Thanks Christopher! Good luck in your studies!
That was fantastic! It seems so simple but yet kind of impossible some how lol had to watch it twice.... great trick!
I came from Esa’s Instagram story, this is amazinggg!!!
Not only did I enjoy your trick, but I also enjoy that it was you that uploaded your own clip. So often random people that had nothing to do with the show upload the trick and tack on ads so they can make a buck off someone else's work.
glad you enjoyed it bro!
At 2:52 the shaky hands are legit... mad props bro, I can't imagine how nerve wracking it is performing in front of the best magicians in the world as well as thousands of people.
Nice job Kevin! Great meeting you this weekend. Hope to see you again soon.
Thank you!!!

Congratulations young man. Cant wait to see what you come out with next and how you develop as a rising master magician.
Thank you Miguel
Your effects and stories are all so special. You're a master of significant, poignant presentation.
Thank you Harley!
It's so very different from most other magic and so simple too. That you fooled the best is a tribute to your skill!
Congratulations. Great routine. Teller was again choked up. Good luck. You proved if you work hard you can achieve anything!!
Wow friend.. I love how simplistic yet entertaining your act was. I love how you embrace and incorporated your heritage and your skills are amazing. Love it!!
thanks mike!
@@KevinLimagic no problem friend. Thank you as well.
@@KevinLimagic oh and I instantly subbed, so keep your videos coming. If so my attention will not disappear. 😉
So clever. Kind of reminds me of trying to diagnose an electrical problem in a car. You can spend hours and hours and hours looking over everything and trying to understand each particular thing it could be, when all along it is something as simple as a burnt out licence plate light shorting on the back of the car where you would not notice it.
Going to check out more of your stuff now, your style is awesome. Great job, Kevin! =)
Thanks for the kind words!
What in the world was that! Amazing magic!!!
thanks eric!
YT just recommended this video and I saw you first on Rae's livestream bday. That was a crazy set!

Thank you Zoey! I'm very honored.
I saw the happiness in your families eyes , I felt that ! Great trick bro 👊
No, those were just cataracts... looks just like happiness!
Such a great, casual style. Impressive, even if frustrating! Good luck, Kevin!

It makes me happy to see them happy and so I thank you for fooling those lovely gentlemen.
Cool message of hope behind you on the stage :)

That's not a single doubt in my mind, but she was certainly in on it.
Yes, the question is how. My best guess is that it was printed on the lid of the cup
@@msq7041 teller drank from it at the end so if its true they know it now
EDIT: re whatchtst it and pen could see the cup and askt if he palmt it but tellers face shows there might have been something

obviously it was the member berries in the tea. Cool Trick man. An inspiration to ALL, the simplest thing transformed into amazing Magic
I like Fool Us! Never realized the trophy is F U 😂
Came after watching Albert's stream on Twitch! That was amazing!
Thanks for hanging out!
I read about you on SGVT and came here. You live near me. Neighbors. That’s a great trick. Fooled me too. I think it’s the hidden messages on the milk tea cover. Lollicup to I Love You. Kidding.
That was awesome and a lesson in not giving up
I still think it's interesting that Penn and Teller came up with a creative way to tell other magicians F U and get them to like it.
