  • Dr. Shabir Ally addresses the popular, and often misunderstood, topic of why there are two major branches of the Islamic faith: Sunni and Shia Islam. He also shares his insights on the importance of keeping harmony within the faith, while respecting the few differences that came about following the death of the Prophet.

      After that it's completely personal if anyone follows, loves and respects the family of Prophet PBUH first or others. Hadith Saghalein حدیث ثقلین:

      +Ali Mohiuddin Brother, If you look at it that way, then neither Shie nor Sunni did exist the time of our prophet. Shias don't consider Imam Ali higher than the prophet.
      *So here are what Shia believes in order by priority:*
      1- Allah (Sobhannallah Ta'ala)
      2- Quran Majid and Prophet SalawatAllah.
      3- Sunnah
      4- Ahl-Albayt or family of the prophet and their teachings اهل البیت و العترت
      5- Imam Ali as the next leader after prophet based on these three Hadiths
      ~ Ghadir Khom in Hajjatol-Veda غدیر خم فی الحج الوداع
      ~ Hadith Saghalayn حدیث ثقلین
      ~ Hadith Kasaa حدیث کسا
      Now you tell me please. believing in these Hadiths is a crime that Shias must be beheaded because of that by Wahhabis?
      And believing in the above items makes Shia Kafir?!

On the other hand some shias repsect the Sahaba but hold Ali in a higher status for some reason but this is fine as they are still Muslims.

      Salaam alaikum brother Alex, I pray that your life as a Muslim becomes easier and filled with grace, material and spiritual ease Ameen.
      The thing about this world is that Allah swt created darkness alongside the light, and the ego is usually stronger than the soul in an individual, save for His mercy and guidance.
      If we see each human as a unique human being first, who is then programmed into a faith system according to inheriting from their family of origin. It may be the case their soul isn't supported by those beliefs and they may shift afterwards.
      Identities are usually very central to a person unless Allah swt helps them to smash all identities and to remember they are multidimensional souls with the essence of Divine within.
      Being born into this faith of misogyny as well as varying narratives is something I contend with, especially when I began questioning my Shi'a roots of being so convinced they are correct to the exception of every other belief, and the Ahle Sunnah have exactly the same beliefs. And so do every other faith.
      This might be to allow us to transcend this in time and follow what the heart and intuition as to what actually has happened and who are the people worthy of reverence and those who may have succumbed to their ego and the whispering of Shayateen.
      Things don't become clearer, but it may inspire us to focus more on Irfaan and the Sufi aspects of the faith.
      Once one is blessed with spiritual awakenings through meditation and murakkabah, things may become more expansive to the heart 💖 and the differences can be taken as historical facts and drama that belongs to others, and not us

      Becoming into sects has been already warned in The Quran it's self, but what can't be avoided is that Human will never agree with something, and that there's no people except that there's difference between them,
      And All things is as the trial is, the religion which Allah has granted his prophet and whoever believes him is islam, and they are called muslims,
      and these shia and sunni are not different islams rather it's a differences between Muslims themselves which they have caused, that shia disagree things with sunni So they Got to be a sects, the only difference between them started when the prophet died and some part has choosed Ali to be the Caliph while others choosed Abu Bakr to be the Caliph, So most people voted for Abu Bakr to be the ruler of the islamic empire After the prophet, and this caused the party who voted for Ali to split and become a shia and disagree with others,
      And by the way Muslim is the only name given to a person who believes in Allah his messenger and follows the Quran, There's no shia nor sunni in the Religion of Allah it's what people who differed have created.
      and note this verse:-
      {وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ تَفَرَّقُوا۟ وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ}
      {And do not be like those who split ˹into sects˺ and differed after clear proofs had come to them.and It is they who will have a tremendous punishment}Ali imran verse-105
      {مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا۟ شِيَعًۭا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ}
      {[and not be] of those who have divided their religion and become into sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has} Ar-Rum 32.
      is it clear? So better not to put yourself into these factions, and the trial is that you will find Good and bad from everywhere and Allah is testing you if you would follow the desires of people who want to be different from others, and this is exactly what happened to the former Religions-the Religion of Moses and Jesus, And it caused many of them to bring new things into their Religion until it has totally changed.
      So these have failed in the Taste and followed their own desire and a falsefied Books, So better not to pass through the same way the formers have passed.
      So there can be no two ways to the truth, So the only muslim is who believes in Allah and All what he have commanded him, And I'm not saying that person is not muslim, and the judgment is for Allah, he will ask those who were happy with their faction, So be a true muslim! that's All and you will inshallah succeed!

      Matthew 12:46-50: 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
      48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
      John 6:40: 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
      Lee Thomas repent from your lukewarm ways, and sinful (or evil) ways of thinking. stop selling muslims a false dream or hope and tell them to repent and be baptised in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for the remission of their sins.

      @Afghan Jalebi Astonishing, really astonishing…. and disappointing... it’s a cherry-picked, selective... farrago... distorted and self-serving interpretation of Hadith... absolutely ameature deduction, I think you even don’t know a basics of Sciences of Interpretation. Hadith and Quran…if you sincerely want to understand… let me help you and quote from Quran...
      القرآن: إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ۔۔۔۔
      [The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam۔۔۔۔]
      *[if to follow your method of reasoning]*
      Tell me how come Jesus similitude Adam? Where;
      *Adam*
      _No father No mother_
      _Adam is Father of Mankind_
      _Mankind Begotten from Him_
      *Jesus*
      _Begotten from a mother_
      _Came many years after Adam_
      _Mankind not begotten from him_
      being similitude doesn’t infer a meaning of an “absolute similitude” even Logically it’s not possible to have “2” different people in different times absolutely similitude of each other…Now here goes the Orignal [text] of Hadith. الحدیث: أنتَ مِنِّي‌ بمَنزِلَةِ ہَارونَ مِن‌ مُوسَي‌ إلا أنَّہ ‌ لانَبيَّ
      Muhammad[PBUH] had never used any word describing to similitude. He has used a beautiful Word “بمَنزِلَةِ” Meaning *Ali your ‘‘Position/Designation” to me is like Haroon was to Moses.*
      Now Lets Quran Tell What Haroon was to Moses… what quran has to say about the designation of Haroon... here you Go!
      القرآن: وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِيهِ هَارُونَ اخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي وَأَصْلِحْ
      [Moses Said! O Haroon *My Brother* You’re *my Caliph* among people….]
      Pls. Take time and look it at again…
      Open the quran at your home and try to thoroughly explore this Ayah…
      Look at the word Quran has bring in… اخْلُفْنِي you see… *‘‘My Caliph’’*
      May Almighty Help you to understand…

      Orginal Fake
      Sahih al Bukhari
      Volume 5, Book 59, Number 700:
      Narrated Sad: Allah’s Apostle set out for Tabuk. appointing ‘Ali as his deputy (in Medina). ‘Ali said, “Do you want to leave me with the children and women?” The Prophet said, “Will you not be pleased that you will be to me like Aaron (Harun) to Moses (Musa)? But there will be no prophet after me.”
      Translated by some like this: (‘Your relation to me shall be like the relation of Harun to Musa…) & (You hold in relation to me the same position as Harun held in relation to Musa)
      Hadith in Arabic:
      عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَى تَبُوكَ وَاسْتَخْلَفَ عَلِيًّا فَقَالَ أَتُخَلِّفُنِي فِي الصِّبْيَانِ وَالنِّسَاءِ قَالَ أَلَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ نَبِيٌّ بَعْدِي
      This hadith is not evidence of khilafah of Ali radiyallahu anhu after the death of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because the comparison is with Haroon alayhi assalam, and Harun alayhi assalam died before Musa alayhi assalam and thus was never his successor after him.The following is an explanation by al Qurtubi rahimahu Allah in his tafsir (tafseer of ayah 2:30) regarding this narration:
      [There is no disagreement that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam didn’t mean, by (saying) “you will be to me like Harun (Aaron) to Moses” the khilafah after him, and there is no disagreement that Haroon died before Musa alayhima assalam … and was not a khalifah after him, for the khalifah (successor of Musa) was Yusha’ bin Noon, so if he wanted by his saying “you will be to me like Harun to Moses” the khilafah, he would have said “you will be to me like Yusha’ was to Musa“, so when he didn’t say this it proved that he didn’t want that meaning, but he wanted that “you are my deputy over my family in my life and my abscence from my family, like Harun was deputy of Musa over his people when he left to speak to his Lord.]
      Other scholars of ahl assunah explained it the same, him being deputy of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam over the women and children when he went to the battle of Tabuk just like Musa alayhi assalam left Harun alayhi assalam as his deputy when he went to his appointment with Allah ta’ala.
      In a Shia site it says:
      ((To this we answer that whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, left the Islamic capital, he would always appoint someone to act as his deputy. If by comparing Ali, peace be upon him, to Harun, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, had intended nothing more than the usual appointment of a deputy, restricted in his authority to Madinah for the period of the Prophet’s absence, why did he not use a similar expression for those other favored Companions he would appoint as deputy? Why did he not use the same or similar words to describe the services they rendered?))
      Answer: Those sahabah might have not asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to go with him and not stay behind to watch who is left behind from women, children and others, so there was no need for him to tell them that, but Ali radiyallahu anhu objected to staying behind with children and women and not go to fight with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he wanted to go to the battle instead, so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said that to him, showing him that he would be to him, by staying behind watching over women and children, like Haroon was to Musa when he left him behind as a deputy over his people, and it is an honor and that he wouldn’t be less than the ones who went to fight in battle.
      Again brother/sister, your argument to claim that Ali was the chosen Khalifa is wrong. I hope Allah guides you to understand that that wasnt the reality. I gave you proof and for every argument you have i will give more proof inshaAllah. May Allah guide you

    Our Quran doesn't differ with yours, actually the Quran of Uthman taha (Uthman Taha hand writing) is one of the most popular in Iran.
    This is a big mistake to think Shiites Quran differ to Sunnis.

    • @almubadara3761
      @almubadara3761 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      maybe you don't differ with the sunnis with regards to the Quran but many of your scholars in Iran and Iraq still think the Quran has been tampered with, they use Taqya many times which as per Sunni understanding has no place when there is no need for it (ie. when your life is not in danger or you are not severly threatened) you are bound to speak the truth about your beliefs (and everything else) see: islamqa.info/en/175632
      Just hear what Kamal al haidary or Yasir al Habeeb or Ali al Sistani or Khamenai or the late Khomeni have to say about: Tawheed, preservation of Quran, Iman of the Sahabah or any other article of faith and you will notice the difference between people of sunnah and the rawafidh, or read your classical books such as al Kafi and Bihar al anwar, compare it with the Quran, and if you are sincere you will surely be guided

      +Tony Al, no I dont want to debate, plenty of filmed debates have alread taken place between sunni scholars and shiite students and you can check them up if you know Arabic, and we are much less than qualified to do that but I just need to clarify 2 points:
      1-You talked about the orthodox understanding of taqya (a concession to save one's life or ward off terrible harm)
      Allah says:(interpretation of meaning) Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief... except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their breasts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allah , and for them is a great punishment; Al Nahl (16:106) but what rafidis do is quite different, they hide their corrupt beliefs and pretend to be following the sunnah like any other muslim, you can find references to this corrupt kind of Taqya from your classical books like al Kafi here:
      ->www.discoveringislam.org/taqiya.htm
      2-about what you mentionecd pertaining the "lost" verses mentioned in the sunni hadith books those are abrogated (mansookh) verses which the prophet commanded us to remove or not to count in the final Quran because Allah the almighty commanded him to do so not because people tampered with the revelation afterwards, not because of the whims and the desires of the noble caliphs of Islam as per the Rafidi claim, you can read the orthodox Islamic understanding concerning those verses here:
      ->islamqa.info/en/105746
      Finally a sincere advise to you and all of the people who follow a shiite denomination please research about your religion; what your books say about tawheed, Iman of the companions of the Prophet or preservation of the Quran and so on, and then come back to the Sunnah (way) of the Prophet peace be upon him and to real tawheed (monotheism).
      Useful link with many references:

      Al Mubadara
      Iam shia.(IN arabic shia means followers) we are proud to be called shia of ali ibn abe talib or shia of ahlulbayt.
      you must know some facts about shia beleif system:
      1.The prophet mohammed(pbuh) order us in hajj al wada to follow 2 things :The quran and Ahlulbayt a.s
      2..shia follow their imam and not sahaba because simply ahlulbayat or imam are the carrier of quran and its knowledge and they are batter than al sahaba .
      3.shia imams are better than sahaba in everthing from knowledge to tafseer to courage and brave to ethics or akhlaq and patience with all people since thy are infallible. if you beleive that prophet mohammed(pbuh) was infallible then you should know that ahlulbayat were infallible too as they get their teaching from prophet mohammed(pbuh).if you dont then how allah subhano wa talla order us to follow his prophet if he was not infallible.in fact sunnei consider the prophet a regular person who can be wrong or fault ,sunneis donot beleif in infallibility
      4.in order to know the importance of ahulu bayet or the imams ,i asked you to compare imam ali ibn abe talib with other sahaba, since the imams of shia are all sons of imam ali. and they have taken the values of imam ali both geneticaly and by teaching.
      5.after the death of prophet omar ibn alkhatab burn the hadiths of the prophet so many hadiths will be added later and of course ,a forgery of hadiths and false hadiths had been created by enemeis of islam who pretend to be muslims which we call them al monafiqoon(hypocrites) and this is the main cause of division seen between muslims.
      بنو العباس
      6.You need to know that NOT ALL SAHABA(COMPANIANS) ARE GOOD
      some would sacrice him self easily for the sake of prophet mohammed(pbuh)as imam ali was, others would argue or has doubts about what prophet said.others ran away from battles against islam enemeis leaving prophet mohammed alone except with his loyal followers .the quran said that clearly read it!!!!

      Shiya and Sunni conflict was not just to find khalifa. It's more than that people don't want you to know. Shia believes Allah can come in any place, he can be Jesus , Ram & Krishna, or any religious God because all are the same supreme power in different Avtar.
      But Sunni believe Allah is only one and last.
      So they killed Ali (son & law) of abu bakar while he was doing his pray or slah.
      Hence the reason conflict is haven't been solved or less likely!

      I agree, irooni 100, yet perhaps ruth is constantly revealing itself...to us, as we need it...
      I found this, perhaps you will find it interesting:
      after 20 centuries, the new name of Christ is: Dahesh
      ..............................................................................
      In the Holy Qur’an, it is also written that Christ’s Second Coming will be to warn people about the Day of Judgment:
      “He [Christ] is a portent of the Hour of Doom. Have no doubt about its coming and follow me.” (Sura 43.61 Al-Zukhruf)
      The Holy Qur’an also gives signs about the time of Christ’s Second Coming:
      “When the heaven shall be rent asunder and turned red like pigment.” Sura 55.37 Al-Rahman)
      All these spiritual sayings are further proofs that “Doomsday” will be brought about by a nuclear war-unless humanity reverses its course and change history. Such a reversal can only take place by man’s free will to accept salvation through Christ’s New Name: DAHESH
      In the inspired book “Jesus of Nazareth,” by Dahesh, young Jesus, addresses his hometown as he is about to depart from it by saying:
      “O City of Nazareth!
      When my last hour draws near,
      I shall depart from your midst
      To return to you after twenty centuries…”

      Those are good ones you have said ,Brother !
      But i dont think it is such good idea to consider the Dahesh as Christ ,that would be offending our Christian brothers & sisters !
      Dahesh leaders are those who used to bow before Saddam Yazid in Iraq and now they are supported by the Enemies of Islam to take over the Islamic lands & they are not going to make it because Alhamdolillah Most Muslims are fully awake & aware !
      Salaam !

    • @julirensch
      @julirensch 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear iroon100....
      I don't think they are refering to the man Jesus..we both know that many of our Christian friends think that Jesus the Christ was God....others believe that Jesus and Buddha and Abraham and Moses and others were just "men" enlightened by our Creator...to bring us the message of the Divine'.
      Mohammed being the latest of these messengers from Allah.
      In the spirit of these revelations....all Messengers of the Divine are "Christ"
      Dr. Dahesh was among us in the 20th century, performing miracles...interestinly there are people still alive, who knew him and were witness to his gift. I think he died in 1984. Anyway, thats what some believe.
      Just an idea to consider.
      I can tell you love investigating matters of Faith...so do I

    1. Mohammad (pbuh) did declare at Ghadeer in his last days that "man kunta maulah'a fahaza Ali'un maulah'a" and raised Ali's hand in front of thousands from all areas of the Muslim empire.
    2. Ali was not happy with the forced decision of making Abu Bakr the caliph, and same when he appointed Umar after himself. Ali describes his emotions about those events in a firm manner in "Nahj-al-balagha" in his famous sermon called "Shaqshaqiya".
    3. The sect Ahle sunnat Wal-jamaat or Sunni did not exist until Abu Hanifa after more than hundred years after the death of the Prophet (pbuh) started spreading it as a sect.

    My mum is from Syed family and my dad is from Quadi. But I choose Sunni over Shias. Reasons are many, some are here, 1. If a person believe Quran is wrong and has been twisted he can change whole faith. 2. If a person can insult and deny a wife of Prophet (pbuh) how can we count that person among believers when in Quran all of the wives of Prophet is mentioned as mother of believers? 3. When Ali (rad) himself took bayah of his early Caliphs how can we force him to be the first one? 4. Utman (rad) also was the husband of two daughters of Prophet(pbuh) why he should not be the first Caliph before Ali(rad)? 5. The people who can praise and celebrate a non muslim, non believer assassin, for killing a Muslim Leader and relative also a companion of Prophet (pbuh), how can they be friend of Muslims?
    Brother, I don't have hate for Shias, and I like them, but I think everything went wrong after Hussain (rad) was killed. But I don't find any justification of Shiaism before this horrific incident. I see it in positive or negative in this two ways, 1. it was a Political Camouflage of extinct Persian empire's hypocrites and their hate towards Umar also prove that. 2. It was a product of immense grief among righteous Muslims after murder of Karbala.

    Nicely explained, i am a Muslim from iran living in australia and agree we should unite! I dont consider my self sunni nor shia but a not very religious muslim n i believe being extremist causes more conflicts n those who ask to know if a muslim is shia or sunni are the root of all problems. In fact all people from all belief systems should love n cherish each other's company.

    You are a good man and a knowledgeable one at that. However, you conveniently omitted the facts from the event of Ghadir Khumm when Prophet announced Ali as his successor.
    I am a Muslim and then a Shia. I have no problem with anyone, be them Muslim or non-Muslim.

    My father's side is Sunni and mother's side Shiia. I was raised by my beloved parents to call myself a MUSLIM, just Muslim. As Brother Shabbir Ally right said, whether Sunni or Shiia, we all believe in the Noble Quran, we all submit to Allah Almighty alone, 5 prayers, fasting in Ramadan, charity and performing Hajj/Umrah are indispensable for all of us. We all firmly believe in the Hereafter. So why are we fighting? Again, as Brother Shabbir reminded us, this is a time when Muslims need to be united. Infighting within our pan-Islamic community carries zero benefit for us. United we rise, divided we fall. It's that simple. Btw, I do not know of any Shiia Muslim claiming Quran has been changed. If anyone claims it, that person must be some uneducated odd one out. Such freaks exist in every community. They do not represent the mainstream Muslim society. The Almighty says in Verse 159 Surah Al-Anam (Chapter 6) "Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do." I appeal to all our brothers & sisters to completely abandon the scourge of sectarianism and come back to being just Muslims. That's what Allah Almighty wants from us, and it's what the beloved Final Messenger (pbuh) taught us.
