- VN24 - 02-08-2022 - Bad Sassendorf A44 / Germany - In the night from Monday to Tuesday (August 2, 2022), a serious traffic accident occurred on the freeway A44. One person was life-threateningly injured. According to previous findings, the accident occurred at about 01:09 h. A 78-year-old driver from the Netherlands was traveling eastbound in the direction of Kassel with his truck loaded with fruit and flowers. About one kilometer behind the "Lohner Klei" parking lot, he apparently drove over a tire lying on the roadway and lost control of his tractor-trailer. He went off the road to the right, broke through the crash barrier and drove down a slope, falling onto his right side. A rescue helicopter airlifted the man, who was apparently seriously injured by flying objects in his cab that were not properly secured, to a hospital. There was an acute risk to his life. The truck had to be upright with the help of a special all-terrain crawler crane (Jekko JF990). This allowed the salvage contractor to work from an adjacent field, so the highway did not have to be shut down for the entire duration of the salvage operation. The police estimate the material damage at approximately 22.000,- euro (!)

Jahrelang war es nur ein schlechter Witz, wenn man davon sprach, von der Arbeitstelle direkt auf den Friedhof zu wechseln, um die Rentenkasse zu entlasten. Was für Umstände müssen herrschen, damit ein 78 Jahre alter Mensch einen derartigen Job ausübt. Meiner Meinung nach gehören hier vor allem die Arbeitgeber in die Verantwortung gezogen. Es ist absolut verantwortungslos, was sich hier inzwischen als neue Normalität etabliert hat.

20.000 €? Alleine diese aufwändige Bergung kostet bestimmt ein 5 stelligen € Betrag die Zugmaschine + Auflieger die Leitplanken etc.

I Think 78 is just a bit too old to drive, - your reactions start to slow down the older you get. I drove for 52 years and didn't have a solitary accident in all that time. When I gave up, I gave my car to my daughter who couldn't understand why my insurance was next to nothing. I'm not boasting or trying to look big, but I think their comes a time in one's life when it's time to say enough is enough, and with all the traffic on the roads today and the speeds everyone seems to need to do. - No thanks - I'll let someone else do the driving. - I hope the gent is recovering in hospital.

Firstly hope the driver makes a full recovery. Great machine, but surprised he did't put any load pads down, all in all a decent recovery, but don't think the normal recovery operators will be rushing to buy one. Nice video VN24 , thank you.
At the moment our grassland, ground etc. is as hard as concrete due to a lack of rain lately so I don't think load pads aren't needed at ( that time ) .

@ Gregg J. - Looks like most at the moment, - Bone Dry and Hard as Nails. It certainly made the recovery a lot easier, - at least the police didn't spray their yellow marking paint all over it. - I wonder how much the farmer got in compensation for all those vehicles in his field,? Good job he had harvested otherwise it would have been chaos.

@@18robsmith - Oh definitely, It's surprising the excuses they will come up with to get cash - and boy do they love cash. Probably one of them will be how the 'heavy' vehicles impacted the soil and now he will have to plough it, disc it and check for any diesel or oil leaks that might have soaked in and will spoil the crop in those areas. Might even go so far as to say the field will be left 'to settle' for a year or so - if he can get away with it.

@@hanneske1954 dat niet alleen hoor. De oudste generatie chauffeurs kan vaak geen afscheid nemen van het werk. Geen hobby's want vaak met 17 jaar al begonnen, 6 dagen werken dus nooit tijd gehad voor een hobby. Stuur deze mensen met pensioen en ze overlijden binnen een jaar van verveling.
Ken in mijn omgeving 2, van 79 en 84 die allebei nog fulltime werken.
Maar vaak rijden gepensioneerden een paar dagen per week als springer zeg maar. Zeker in het soort werk als uit het filmpje.

I think this driver still drives a truck out of his own free will to earn something extra and/or because it's his hobby. Hopefully the driver comes out unscathed. The cabin offered a lot of resistance, despite the impact.
