I grew up with a Golden. They will almost always be a puppy. My Mom trained our golden (Amber) to never walk on carpet; due to hair. So I had the responsibility to pick up Amber and take her upstairs into the bath tub. After I left the house and went into the Army, my first visit back at the house. I saw the operation my parents used to get Amber into the bath tub. Jelly Belly Jelly beans and gentle shoving . It was the funniest thing I ever seen. The poor dog had no idea what they wanted her do. Of course, I came to the rescue and carried her to tub. Luckily, my Army stint was not long and Amber was truly my best friend. All I had to say was, 'Amber. Putt putt!' and she knew we going for a car ride. We lost her a few years later to cancer; one of the hardest days of my life. But, the memories will last a life-time. I'm tearing writing this, one day I well get another Golden. PS My favorite bumper sticker is 'Gotta Getta Golden'. Best.
We have a two and a half year old golden ALSO called Amber. She's a complete donk! I'm 54 and this is our first ever dog and she's changed our and definitely my life :). She's well behaved generally unless she finds a dog that wants to play :)
Really love your pups. I have had a Golden since he was 8 weeks old. He is now 11 years old. Best breed of dog in my opinion. Mine is not a pet, he is family !!
May i ask about the health of your GR and and experience with that? Im getting one in 10 days at 10 weeks old and as a healthcare professional i think alot about their health and cancer :( its a bit scary to me. Have heard many things...
Omg I have a golden retriever too! She's a girl and it's very sweet and calm just like your golden retriever. Mine has a golden mixed with white colour. She's 1 year old. I love her sooo much! Lovely kiddos!! Golden’s roll around when their wet to dry themselves off and because they are celebrating bath time is over! Ours also drag themselves along our walls too, 🤦♀️ stinkers! Lol Being a breeder, we have 5 adult Goldens and sometimes, 5-10 Golden puppies (we call them our Little Nuggets ) running around our house. I quickly run a brush or comb through my dogs before I bathe them as well as after. It helps prevent matting and loosens hair during periods of excessive shedding ( blowing their coats). I also use a dog shampoo brush. (Example attached in link below) I don’t know why, but their coats seem to shine more when I use it. I think it loosens any oil or grime that shampoo doesn’t remove on its own. If you ever want to try an all natural conditioner, Lillian Ruff (Available on Amazon) is wonderful! It’s Lavender and coconut so it’s not only soothing and calming, but it helps repel fleas and ticks. And it smells super yummy 😉 Since we show a few of our dogs, we leave their trouser fur and chests on the long side. I really love the fact that you got in the tub with them when you were bathing them. I just find such a beautifully selfless gesture and I'm sure its comforting to them as well. So many bath videos show the owners outside the tub leaning over and I just feel like thats not as comforting to them.
@@emilymarieplusthree yes they do lol. I just find it such a beautiful and selfless and caring gesture on your part. My Lab used to be the same way. Idk how you feel but I found it really calming to be in there with them and it was kind of intimate and we bonded even more (which I didn't know was possible lol) because he didn't love the bath but if i was there "dad" was there and if I was there everything was okay and he could relax even in the bath which he didn't love.
@@emilymarieplusthree I just watched the nail clipping portion of this video and it brought me to tears because it's so beautiful to me and so simple and reminds me so much of my Lab and the bond we had. You described them as not liking that activity really at all. But they were so calm and at one point I think I saw Daisy just lying on her side just letting you do whatever you needed to do. Giving up complete control to you "mama." They both seemed very calm. I hope this doesn't sound self-promoting lol but if you understand the psychology of dogs the way you clearly do and the way I do you get instantly what is happening for them there. They don't love that activity but you're "mom.' And they trust you more than anyone on the planet and they know that you love and care for them more than anything as well. And they know that you've got their back's and are caring for them so if this what you have to do they're in. And when dog's know they dont have to worry about something and that "you've got this" so to speak their heart belongs to you. That was long-winded but it really doesn't get anymore complicated than that. It's just love and trust in its purist form. I've been missing my Brady a lot over these few days. Thanksgiving was his favorite because he loved being around people so much. His one goal in life was to feel loved and cared for and included in the family. And seeing videos like this where you have that same bond is very heart-warming and helpful. Thank you.

You may want to try dentasticks. I have been giving my golden one every morning and the vet says his teeth are in great shape. He will be 9 in December. They do a once a year clean on his teeth bud they don’t have to use any sedation. Your dogs are beautiful.
Marrow bones from the butcher in the grocery store work best. It is their natural way, All 3 of my Goldens and 2 German Shepards never needed any dental cleanings, they had beautiful teeth too. PLEASE, Be Careful with any nylon bones or Raw Hide as these get stuck in their intestines and will need surgery or worse they can pass from this. Natural bones and giving them dry dogfood will keep their teeth healthy, no brushing needed.
@@gardengoddess1283 thanks for this info. I’m going to ask the butcher for those marrow bones. Will they know what I’m talking about? Do you need to “prep” the bones at all? Boil them or freeze them first?
I’m new to your tube, I have 2 Golden’s my one her name is Daisy just like yours and my other one looks like your second one her name is Marley! Neither one of mine like their bathes or nails cut. Great Job Grooming your GRs. Mine is 2 years old and we pretty much do in the same way. Two things I would suggest is . One, Change your de-shedding brush to a Furminator or knock off like one (Amazon). I tried the one you used and it actually scratches him more and the Furminator pulls out twice as much hair. It will also pull hair off of the front of his legs were the hair is short. Second, I bought a grooming blow dryer (not an expensive one, Amazon) it is impossible to get them 100% dry. Mostly it will help de-shed them by blowing it on the high setting. I will do it even after a regular brushing when he is dry.

Golden’s are the best in the whole world! My Belly Bear is 10 years old and she is my pride and joy! Yours seem so chill and sweet! Once a golden owner, always a golden owner. Golden’s for life 💛
You are such a good dog mom!! I'm an older dog mom (56) of an 11 week old Golden. Finn is our 5th Golden. Our previous Golden, Darby, passed away from hemangiosarcoma, in April at age10, and we literally had the opportunity to get Finn, the runt of the litter, and only weighing about 6 lbs when we brought him home, just a month after Darby passed. He's perfectly healthy and very silly and rambunctious! It's quite a bit more challenging now than 10 years ago raising a pup! He wants to nip all of the time. Do you have any training tips for that? A person tends to forget the challenges posed with a Golden pup!
Lovely Dogs!! I have a red golden too! They need to be brushed a lot and you don't want to bathe them a lot because of their natural oils. Also, always introduce your puppy to a brush early on and play with and touch their toes & legs so they're used to it. start trimming nails when they're pups to get them used to it. Nice video and beautiful pups!!
Yes! Please do more videos with your babies! I’m getting a golden girl in less than two weeks and we already picked her name out when we first decided to get her DAISY!! Lol I just found your channel today while doing some research on things I should know about taking care of her. Your dogs and you are precious.
The puppies are due in three weeks. I'm looking at second week in Dec. Never had one of these. Had two Labs both good. We'll see to what extent I can train this dog. Intellect is the key along with bidability. I heard both are high in this breed. The Lab I got at 49-days old was exceptional but the one that was given to me at 7-months was only trainable to a point. It's 49-days for this female pup. Thanks for the info.
Great video Emily... you're obviously a caring and attentive Mom to those two beautiful goldens. We're picking up our first golden in a week and we can't wait! I was curious about cleaning around their head and face... do you have to do this and if so, is there a best way?
Something about that post-bath thing for them. They just go nuts after getting out of the tub and spraying water everywhere! I think it’s that they are free again or something. Mine have all done it. I also enjoy seeing your videos as the breed seems to have tons of the same mannerisms and habits regardless of who raises them. Thanks for making this video.
They are GORGEOUS!!! So so precious 💖💖 Just one minor tip, I saw you used Hartz branded shampoo. Just take a look at the brand and types you use because their brand is known for products that do a LOT of harm to animals! (heard of two shih tzu’s passing within one hour of bathtime with their products!!) This is not meant to scare, but just to be aware! They look SUPER healthy and you are doing an AWESOME JOB!!! Best wishes to you and your babies 💖
Just got out first dog, named him Tokyo. He is 45 days old and now lookin ay your 5 month old dog I feel like I really need to take one hell of pictures cuz they grow up fast.
They shed lots, they are amazing companions, great with children and other species, they love laying in anything that resembles water the muddier the better, did I mention they shed lots.
I've always wanted a golden in jackson's shade but unfortunately here in india, we get the light coated golden retrievers! Whatever shade, size and shape they come in they are all adorable and lovely ❤️
I've had Goldens all my life, and am getting 2 pups in 5 days! (Not that I'm counting or anything). Been about a year since I had a Golden, and can't wait.
So cute!! Your dogs are so good! My 18 month old golden girl is psycho in the bath tub. She jumps out, she just doesn’t cooperate, and I’ve been doing everything since she was a baby!
I really love dogs and im looking to get a golden retriever to help me with my addiction and depression, How much happier are you with them in your lives?
My daughter has a brain injury. We got a golden retriever and she is the best addition to our family. She knows when my daughter needs her-my daughter will get upset sometimes-and just lie with her till she’s calm. Our go,den melts my heart everyday. Her instagram is @jasperthegoldengirl.
I just did a search for Eglin AFB bc I live on base but am new so I’m looking for people that talk about the area, I found your channel and then realized I’m almost sure I’ve seen you walking your dogs around! They are beautiful dogs and you’re an amazing dog owner!! ❤️
Just got a Golden puppy :) this was very helpful thanks! Any recommendations on a good lint roller/brush- majority of clothes I own are black and i'm seeing it's going to be a challenge. Hair EVERYWHERE lol. Also, any vacuum recommendations?
Just get a lot of lint rollers and have them everywhere!! I have the shark lift away and it works well! I also recommend the handheld shark for the couch car etc
I’m not a first time dog owner, but I’ve never owned a Golden Retriever. when I get enough money (and most likely my own place) I plan to get one! They seem like amazing dogs, and I am so grateful you posted this video so I can take mental notes ahead of time. Is there anything else I should know before looking into getting one of these beautiful babies? Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this “real life” video. Very helpful and appreciate the links. I am scared to clip the nails because twice now I have made them bleed 😣. I am trying to juuuusssst snip the ends a wee bit. Also I must get one of those fold away plastic step stools to sit on. LOL my knees can’t squat that long while I bathe my doggy. I may try those tooth wipes.... have you found anything that works better? So far we just use a regular soft toothbrush but that’s just “meh”. We also try some ice cubes in a full bowl of water so she crunches them up.... always looking for better tooth hygiene ideas. Anyways, thanks for great video. You are a good doggy mama💓🐾🐾
I just want to share, we had a beautiful Golden Retriever his name was Oscar and we shamefully had to have him put to sleep when he became very ill, he was my best friend when my alarm went off in the morning he used to wake me almost pester me till I got up, we always went on long walks together anyway just a few days after he turned 9 years old he became ill so after one vet visit one week earlier we took him to another vet who insisted we admit him into intense care, after two days of being in hospital we were to go and pick him up and bring him home but the vet rang to tell us he had suffered a seizure then they rang back as my mrs was telling me the news, my world fell apart that day as they said he had suffered another seizure just less than one hour later and it was best to have him put to sleep as his platelets were very low and they suspected cancer, now people that do not have dogs do not realise how loving Retrievers are and my boy Oscar was one of those four legged friends who loved to share his love, I miss him badly and even though I knew he was very ill I would have still brought him home, I am a 56 year old male who has been done badly for the loss of my Golden boy.
There is no shame in what you did. I have recently had to do the same thing. Love is doing whats best for them regardless of your how much it devestates you.
Alan Lydiate You put your dog down immediately because the vet suspected cancer? What, so you would just shy away from treating a human family member if they got cancer or another illness? I have zero respect for pet owners who do not opt for pet insurance or do not make an effort to pay towards their dog's treatment when they fall ill. Shame on you. People like you should never be allowed to own dogs.
Damo Breen Really, no shame? Owners like you shouldn't be allowed to have pets if you can't afford pet insurance or to pay towards their treatment when they fall ill. Putting them down because you don't have money for treatment is pathetic. Shame on you.
@@sdhami9641 how dare you! You don't know this person's situation, clearly he loved his dog. People like you shouldn't be so quick to judge. So shame is all on you! Take your vile comments elsewhere
Very informative and well behaved dogs. Looking into adopting a golden retriever pup. Can anyone attest to them being good with children and now an infant?
Don't you dry them?? I was told that they need to be dried throughly to keep from having skin problems. I will be getting my first golden puppy in 2022 so in mean time doing alot of research etc. So happy you did this video...first of its kind i have seen!! Your pups are so well behaved. Your help would be appreciated with my questions. Ty. 😊🙏💕💐💃
Soo wonderful to see, i just got my 2 months old retriever and looking forward how he behave,, hopefully same as yours... doing my best by learning how to train dogs while trainig my luffy :-)
Beautiful dogs! I'm curious about their activity level. I know every dog is different and it varies on their personality, but how much exercise do goldens need on a regular basis? I'm more of a couch potato but I think I could commit to the idea of going on daily walks.
Thanks for the video had a golden named raleigh for 12 years and due miss him. Went thru the same thing bathing and brushing he always enjoyed it, you cannot go wrong with having one or two LOL!!
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video, Emily! My husband and I are hoping to have a golden very soon, so this was extremely helpful👍 You have the most beautiful goldens and they look very healthy and happy😊💜 Keep up the awesome work!!
Stephen Peek about every 2 weeks! It really just depends. In the winter they don’t get as dirty since they aren’t outside much. In the summer we go swimming at the beach, dog park etc so they get bathed a lot in the summer! Honestly, when they’re dirty and they stink, they get a bath!
Babe so you were wondering why they roll around on the floor after a bath. In my experience, I’ve come to find that the soaps we use whether dog soaps or regular human body soaps react with their bodies for a while and so they itch a bit after they get a bath
A couple tips, don’t get ears wet as Goldens are prone to ear infections, before baths always brush out your Golden with a metal comb and slicker brush. A conditioner is also a good idea. My groomer tells me it’s important to dry a Golden with a dog dryer to avoid hot spots. Goldens are an amazing breed we love ours to pieces. I can tell you love your cuddle bugs
Ivy Anderson I never get their ears or head wet while bathing them. I also use the ear solution to clean them out which I show in the video. Blow drying takes forever, especially with two, keep in mind groomers are promoting their business. They are not a necessity when owning a golden!
Also a grooming table is a game changer. Sweet dogs to let you trim them free style. A thinning shear works great to avoid lines on the paws. Sweet Goldens you have
I love this video. I’m getting a golden retriever so this helped me see how you do your dogs. I’ve got two dogs now and they’re both short haired dogs so I don’t need to trim just brush so thank you for your video!
WolfyGirlPlayz 70 I crate trained Jax and Daisy when they were puppies and we first go a small crate for them when they were smaller and then slowly transition them to the big one. I would get a large crate with a divider in it if I were you. So you can slowly give them more room as they grow. You don’t want their crate to be too big so they won’t have accidents when potty training

How did you make them stay in place... while u brush them...mine goldens are very playful and it's very difficult to make them stay in a plc
saravana kumar mine just love to be brushed and I’ve done it since they were little so they know the drill!
I must be lucky then. My boy sits in the tub after I command him to stay. He is a good boy
I want a golden retriever so bad and like I've been waiting to get one for 8 years now
If its your first time, a golden is a good choice.....but I didn’t know that and i bought a husky.....i love it of course but damn was it tough
Also, it's amazing how well they've been trained to stay still during baths, clippings, brushing, etc. do you have any resources you would recommend?
I’m casually studying these videos to let my parents get me one 😂. No but like I am... I’ve made 7 presentations and it’s taking sooooo long
Your Golden’s are beautiful. I wish my 8 year old Golden was half as calm as your pups. You really take good care of them. Fun video to watch.
B Quinn I usually take a wash cloth with soap and scrub their head. Or sometimes I’ll use a baby wipe to wipe their face
B Quinn brush the way you want their fur to grow
Something about that post-bath thing for them. They just go nuts after getting out of the tub and spraying water everywhere! I think it’s that they are free again or something. Mine have all done it. I also enjoy seeing your videos as the breed seems to have tons of the same mannerisms and habits regardless of who raises them.
Thanks for making this video.
I loved this...to watch a Golden smile ;-) I too am a Golden Dog Mom
They are GORGEOUS!!! So so precious 💖💖 Just one minor tip, I saw you used Hartz branded shampoo. Just take a look at the brand and types you use because their brand is known for products that do a LOT of harm to animals! (heard of two shih tzu’s passing within one hour of bathtime with their products!!) This is not meant to scare, but just to be aware! They look SUPER healthy and you are doing an AWESOME JOB!!! Best wishes to you and your babies 💖
I did read that about that shampoo - not the brand! I use a different shampoo now on them, updated routine coming soon!!
I just got one today!! He’s 10 weeks and sleeps a lot XD Can’t wait to see him grow!
i can just tell what an amazing dog mom you are and it makes my heart happy- new subscriber :)
Just got out first dog, named him Tokyo. He is 45 days old and now lookin ay your 5 month old dog I feel like I really need to take one hell of pictures cuz they grow up fast.
Watching this as we have a foster retriever staying with us, beautiful dogs
They shed lots, they are amazing companions, great with children and other species, they love laying in anything that resembles water the muddier the better, did I mention they shed lots.
I've always wanted a golden in jackson's shade but unfortunately here in india, we get the light coated golden retrievers! Whatever shade, size and shape they come in they are all adorable and lovely ❤️
Aswini Ramesh I want a light but we got dark 😂
@@alyssasmith4760 😂😂
Aswini Ramesh I would rather have a dark golden retriever than no golden retriever tho
Hi aswini.. I'm from india too ... Excited to buy my first golden retriever can you share some tips.. are you on instagram
vishnu priyan please do give me your Instagram id, I will reach out to you
So helpful, thanks I am getting a go.dem retriever in the next summer and I’m so exicted ( next summer means next year rn its spring so yea )
Very calm and obedient
Look at the male dog eyes when she says bath he really know what she is talking about. Amazing
I had a Golden much like Jax, very good information, nicely done; I’m motivated to get another Golden
My dog seems to like my brushing her hair; but I only use the pin cushion brush on areas prone to tangle.
I've had Goldens all my life, and am getting 2 pups in 5 days! (Not that I'm counting or anything). Been about a year since I had a Golden, and can't wait.
Tsukabu's Artsy Things that’s so exciting!! Congrats! 🐾
So cute!! Your dogs are so good! My 18 month old golden girl is psycho in the bath tub. She jumps out, she just doesn’t cooperate, and I’ve been doing everything since she was a baby!
My favorite doggies! Golden’s are the best! ❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗
God bless the internet..and you... Thank you for this video
Getting a golden puppy tomorrow! I’m So Excited.
I really love dogs and im looking to get a golden retriever to help me with my addiction and depression, How much happier are you with them in your lives?
Orange probably very happy! I’m happy for you that you are getting treatment for your depression/addiction; many blessings for you!
@@aegrant100 I'm gonna follow this insta id because I'm getting a female golden puppy
If you can give the time NEEDED. And be best friends with him. Them do ir
Hopefully picking our golden girl up tomorrow!
I just did a search for Eglin AFB bc I live on base but am new so I’m looking for people that talk about the area, I found your channel and then realized I’m almost sure I’ve seen you walking your dogs around! They are beautiful dogs and you’re an amazing dog owner!! ❤️
Brooke Conley awh!! Yes you probably have! I walk them pretty much every day!
Thank you for ths video. My wife and are going to bring a Golden into our family in January.
Thank you so much for this “real life” video. Very helpful
and appreciate the links.
My sweet girl has cancer of the sp[een .She left 20 yrs ago ! Miss her everyday but lots of good memories.
Can anyone attest to them being good with children and now an infant?
the roll on the carpet after the bath because they are trying to dry off! My dog does it too (:
Goldens are such sweethearts!
Jax and Daisy are the cutest!
Tell them to get ready for bachelor snuggles next Monday!
Jillayne Callewaert they’re alllllways ready 😂💗
I'm getting a Golden Retriever in a few weeks so this was super helpful! :) thank you!!
Hi Emily, thanks for the video. Can you also raise a video on how to brush teeth on Goldens? Thank you.
What a good boy!! He looks just like my Golden Sully who is almost 3.
My dog use to do the same thing; after a bath, he would roll around
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video, Emily! My husband and I are hoping to have a golden very soon, so this was extremely helpful👍 You have the most beautiful goldens and they look very healthy and happy😊💜 Keep up the awesome work!!
Thanks for sharing Daisy and Jax with us they are beautiful! About how often would you do this routine? Every 2 weeks?
Stephen Peek about every 2 weeks! It really just depends. In the winter they don’t get as dirty since they aren’t outside much. In the summer we go swimming at the beach, dog park etc so they get bathed a lot in the summer! Honestly, when they’re dirty and they stink, they get a bath!
Emily Bruce every 2 weeks sounds about right! Thank you for your feedback!!
Your darker pup looks exactly like one of my golden doodles, both very beautiful pups you have ☺️💗
Babe so you were wondering why they roll around on the floor after a bath. In my experience, I’ve come to find that the soaps we use whether dog soaps or regular human body soaps react with their bodies for a while and so they itch a bit after they get a bath
“Wanna take a bath?” Dog: “Say what?”
😂😂😂
They’re both so shy! Ahahaha
How could u not love a Golden!
My golden hates it when I cut her paw hair haha good yours are pretty calm when cutting that area
Mark Lim I just let my dad do that my dog listens to my dad no matter what
Your video put a smile on my face! These babies are so cute!! And you're adorable ma'am!
I think all dogs do that after the bath, I think it is bc they want to smell the same way they did before or smell like home, my dog does that also
Great job on taking care of such great fur babies!
Sweet Goldens you have
Such a beautiful breed.Amazing creatures!
i love her videos
I love this video. I’m getting a golden retriever so this helped me see how you do your dogs. I’ve got two dogs now and they’re both short haired dogs so I don’t need to trim just brush so thank you for your video!
they are so cute btw i’m looking to get a golden retriever are they crate trained and if they are can u make a video on crate training
Hello!! Im trying to get a Golden Retriever! A puppy so quick question what cage should i get for the dog to grow in?
WolfyGirlPlayz 70 I crate trained Jax and Daisy when they were puppies and we first go a small crate for them when they were smaller and then slowly transition them to the big one. I would get a large crate with a divider in it if I were you. So you can slowly give them more room as they grow. You don’t want their crate to be too big so they won’t have accidents when potty training
@@emilymarieplusthree omg thank yiu so much your a life saver!
hi they are so beautiful babies you are very lucky and happy good luck to you and your beautiful
