I have owned 3 grand Cherokees. First was a limited trim, followed by an overland trim and then a v8 trailhawk which will be passed to my daughter in a few days after a drivers test. In the meantime, I thought I wanted to go for a luxury car and went with an e class Mercedes. I lasted 6 months. I needed a grand Cherokee but the big difference is I didn’t want to compromise on luxury. So I will be taking delivery of my 2024 grand Cherokee L summit reserve on in two days. The long and short of it is that I think Ben is dead wrong. I think there are more jeep guys - and girls - who love the brand, love their capabilities but have grown up a bit and are more financially sound and willing to take the luxury with the practicality. It’s brilliant.
I think you answered your question. I’m a new Jeep owner and bought the GCL Limited but immediately returned it after a week and bought the GCL Summit Reserve. I cannot stop doting on how much I love driving this vehicle. It’s my daily driver in a midsize city. I look for reasons to drive it. They should ABSOLUTELY continue this high spec option. It provides outstanding luxury and a great ride without needing the pretentiousness of a luxury brand name (or price). The tech, the stereo, the amenities, the air suspension etc., is great and knowing it’s off road/terrain ready just gives me a psychological boost when the nasty weather comes. I’ve owned Mercedes, Infiniti and Jaguar in the past. None of them gave me the pleasure of driving like the Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve 5.7 V8. As long as Jeep continues this standard, they have another customer for life! That’s my take. Jeep did not create this work of art for the off roader, and they got it very right.
Absolutely love my 2023 Summit!!! The burgundy with contrasting black top, beautifully quilted comfortable leather seats, pano sunroof, and awesome McIntosh stereo combined with a smooth and quiet ride takes this Jeep to the next level.
To me it seems like Jeep wants to play in the more profitable upmarket with Land Rover. Personally, I think this is where they should be. Land Rover has so many maintenance issues that many buyers would prefer a luxury off-roader alterative outside of the traditional luxury brands of BMW or Mercedes. I think it's a wise move for the long-term.
If the 40k/50k Grand Cherokee are $10k + off. The 80K+ versions should be a lot more than that off... It's the wrong time for us to buy, but the other day i was tempted. There was a brand new 2024 L with a 51k sticker. They had it marked down to 38k. Shows how bad Jeep/Dodge is hurting.
We own a lower trim 2023 4x4 JGC and we paid about $45K. Stellantis has ratcheted prices to insane levels where most buyers can't afford them. I expect the company to lower its prices drastically to move unsold inventory, declare bankruptcy, or sell its US operations.
Hey Ben ..... As an owner of a 2016 Grand Cherokee Limited, I must say, YOU HIT the NAIL right on the HEAD !!!! I couldn't AGREE with you MORE ...... "Thank you" for posting this video .... (I value your opinions, sir...) !!
Ben, I think you are out to lunch on this one. You will not find a better luxury then the higher models of the grand cherokee (Summits or Overlands). These things are more capable then anything besides a land rover and even rival those and they are more luxurious. Jeep should never stop making these high end Grand Cherokees. They are a solid vehicle and due to the lower end models, the repair costs are going to be way more reasonable. They are like a secret out there if your in the know.
IMHO your reasoning, Ben, is spot on! Maybe Tavares personally (if he’s not doing it already) should be watching and following similar sites/blogs and give them more credence than any of his advisers! 😅
Whatever you do, stay away from 4XE. I am very disappointed with the gas/EV transition/mating. 2.0 Turbo, Hybrid. Loud, lazy at times and did I say loud? I have 23 Overland and I love the car itself. Simply wonderful on all levels. Its a Range Rover for the poor among us. The sound system with the 19 speakers is AMAZING. HWY rides with air ride is incredible. Next one for me soon enough is a V6 or 8. No way 4 cyl again. I can't imagine repairing the 4XE as it rakes miles.
Agree - 3.6 took time to become a reliable long term motor and I prefer they keep it as well. I do fear they will change it and move it towards decommissioning… i.e.They recently announced v6 is only stick only no auto on wranglers.
I completely agree with you. The higher end (Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve) JGCs should be shipped to the Chrysler brand. The Grand Wagoneer should have been the Chrysler Aspen. The Pacifica can't carry the Chrysler brand anymore.
Give the people a Limited with the Quadra-Trac II and Limited Slip(Willy's type version of the GC). The fact that the 5.7, Quadra-Trac II, and limited slip are locked behind the Overland show how out of touch they are. What blew my mind was when I got my Overland Hemi, it didn't come with skid plates by default. You need to by the "Trail-Prep Package" I would kill for a somewhat base interior and mild options, with a true jeep drivetrain that gave me 4 Low and possibly a LSD.
Since they carried over the power trains, do you think they will eventually get rid of the V-8 since they have in the ram trucks and other vehicles or will they wait for a refresh?
I bought my first "new to me" vehicle last year. A 2021 Cherokee Limited 4x4 with the V6. It was a leased vehicle previously so it was well maintained. It is such a great vehicle all around, good power, sound system, comfortable seats & ride. I saw that Jeep removed all the trims except for the trailhawk AND did away with the V6 option. Such a shame because my cherokee is such a good vehicle.
I love all the reviews - one "action" everyone needs to perform hundreds of times is filling up the tank. Perhaps taking a second to show the gas filler release and cap to simulate the steps in all the videos. Just a thought to add to the great value you already provide...
Stellantis’ game plan is putting lipstick on a pig. The vehicles look nice and finishes are awesome, but the motors and electrical, etc are terrible. My buddy has a 2023 grand Cherokee, just hit 42k miles, and the other day while he was driving, all maintenance and sensor lights just came on. Vehicle stuttered and then drove normal again but all lights remain on. He took it to the dealership and they’re now telling him they want over $6000 to fix it. Warranty expired because it was 3yr/36k miles and he’s at 42k. It’s a 2 yr old vehicle! One of the mechanics told him to trade it in and don’t buy another dodge/Chrysler/Jeep product 😂
I'm on my third Grand Cherokee in a row (one was totaled when I got rear ended at a stop light) and all three have been absolutely steller in terms of reliability. Zero issues with any of them. I wouldn't hesitate to get a fourth Grand Cherokee in the future.
Trying to poach Range Rover customers wasnt the move. They are procing themselves out just for name status alone. They arent exactly more reliable either.
You actually have a great point about this trim. It seems like Jeep is trying to appeal to potential Lexus GX/LX buyers with this. They might take a look at this but would rather pay a little more for the Toyota/Lexus reliability over the Chrysler/Stellantis uncertainty.
If I’m spending 81k I’m not buying a Jeep and that’s the problem. Jeep quality will never be worth 81k. If you’re going to spend $81,000 don’t spend it on a cjdr product.
They would be fine if they fixed drivetrain. We are jeep loyalists with a 17 jeep srt getting older. We should be their easiest sale. I am not paying 70k for a small bore i4 with electric. Cmon jeep get that hurricane engine in the GC already.
You just summed up exactly why Stellantis is in big trouble….off road capable, affordable and reliable….all the things Stellantis has forgotten about what a Jeep should be.
Fear and uncertainty create major wealth. It's those who take the risk and have strong gut to endure the bloody days. When i notice extreme dips i tend to actually move more money to crypto
I feel sympathy for our country, low income people are now suffering to survive yet inflation and recession keep increasing daily, many families can't even enhance the good cost of living anymore. You've helped me a lot Sir Brian! Imagine I invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days

Wish you showed the inside and the third row more. Generally fan of your video but this one was disappointing. Too much rambling on what trim/model Jeep should make. Consumers can decide for themselves. Next time show the vehicle and its features more. Me and wife are actually looking at three row SUVs and was hoping this would be more about the vehicle. Disappointed. Hopefully your next review is an actual review and less rambling.
I really like your personality and reviews but I can't believe that even though I just told you a week ago to always state the year you still usually forget this and it is not even in the info at top either. You say it is new and how would I know if this is a 2024 or 2025? The single most important fact is the year, which takes 2 seconds to say. You're also not saying the years of the generation; not many will know this info. This review will lose all value in the future for anyone doing research not knowing what it is. Also, If it is a used car you should always say how many miles are on it.
