yeah, massage seats, pan sunroof, camera mirror, all that extra they do these days, i would rather remove some in favor of 5.7, would also not argue bout incentives if they offer them like they use to
The twin turbo inline 6 should be coming soonish, that will displace around 525 hp. They also have the 4xe with a turbo 4 cylinder and the 5.7 hemi. The outgoing Overland goes for over 60k with the same engines so not sure why you were expecting a big change.
That interior is super nice, but agree with the piano black, not good material. Also, I personally like when the screen is closer to eye level so I don’t have to look down
The overland also comes with 3 rows. Go on Jeep and build one mine came to 63,453. This is with the expensive packages This Jeep is so comfortable. With the higher upgrade packages. You get heat and cold lumber massage seats. I have nerve damage in my tailbone and so I need a really comfortable seat. The massage systems in other brands have. None compared to the Jeep. I fell asleep in it. So if you have a bad back and want to drive longer then 3o min get one.
I just got rid of my 2021 L. Had it 3 1/2 months with a little over 600 miles on it and it was in the shop 3 times. Horrendous electronic problems. It died twice in my drive and I had to get roadside assistance out. The automatic emergency braking slammed the car to a halt with nothing in front of me in a 30 mph zone. Hate to think what would have happened on the highway. The Uconnect 5 kept freezing and I had to reset it. Every time it went in, the dealer found nothing, there were no codes or service bulletins. Horrendous quality. My first and last Jeep.
I still prefer the 2021 exterior grill and overall styling to the 2022 but interior wise the 2022 is awesome. The only thing I don’t like on the inside is the rotary transmission dial , I really don’t like those at all.
I hear ya but it clears out space for the phone charger that previous models don't have. I have a 2019 GC Limited and just bought a 2014 GC Summit. The Limited really is a great SUV and my daughter will love it but the new Summit trim is at a whole different level with air suspension and the drop dead gorgeous interior.
Even though I really like the Grand Cherokee and L version. We went and bought a Toyota Highlander simply because of the piano black. We keep our vehicles for 12+ years and having that scratched up would absolutely drive me crazy. Especially for such an expensive car.
Great review. I will look hard at a Grand Cherokee when I move to north Idaho in a couple years. I have learned a lot about how these off-road systems work from watching your various reviews. I think that last part when you switched to sand/mud was an excellent example of the difference between the two modes.
And when can you option a V8? I love my 06 Limited with the Hemi in it. Sucks on gas; but it tows great and is great in bad weather. This is way overpriced for what you get.
Interesting that you can "adjust your legs". Oh, that we all could do that. Also, several times you referred to this Grand Cherokee as a "Cherokee". There are huge differences between the two models. You were correct in calling this an "all wheel drive" system, but wrong when you "corrected" this with a caption that indicates it is "four wheel drive". It is NOT 4WD, it is full-time AWD.
The cargo dimensions you talk about are for the 3-row not the 2-row. It actually has a fair bit less. Also, use mud setting in deep snow for more wheelspin.
holy cow, $65k for a Grand Cherokee Overland now? My 18 GC Trailhawk MSRP was 'only' ~$51k, Overland trim wasn't that much more, maybe around $53k or so back then.
Just replaced my 2014 Overland ($52k) with a 2022 Overland L ($66.5), both V6. A lot more, but the 2022 has a third row, 4 zone climate control, 10.1 inch center screen, 10.5 inch passenger screen, McIntosh MX950 sound system, level 2 driver assist and ACC, cameras everywhere and night vision camera, rear view mirror camera,, and a lot more. Is that worth 15k? I think so but the point is you can get 2022 Overland for $58k but it’s still much better equipped than the 2014. YMMV.
So after watching this in snow would it be safe to say that a Subaru Outback would do better in snow than this jeep? Seems you were spinning and sliding all around even in snow mode?
I have an 2014 overland with Quadra drive included as an option…..no trail rated badge. It is my understanding, however, that any Grand Cherokee with a trail rated badge has Quadra drive, which includes the electronic rear limited slip differential.
Yep, with better tires for those conditions it would have just kept on going up that hill. With the Quadra-Trac 2 and rear "locker" its called Quadra-Drive....too bad Jeep didn't continue on with the old Quadra-Drive system that gave you front and rear limited slip differentials....much more capable than what they have now, but I think they have the brake system to clamp down on the spinning wheels and transferring power to the other wheel on the axle instead, still not as good as true lockers or limited slips of course but it'll work in many cases.
It actually confused me a little when he said it was a quadra trac II with a limitied slip diff in the back. I thought that was only a feature on the quadra drive II. As far as i knew quadra trac II is just a fancy way of saying full time awd with open diffs front and back. But that may have changed for this model year.
@@jbmazhar2000 Quadra-Trac is in fact the full time 4WD system with open diffs...Quadra-Trac 2 adds the 2 speed transfer case that gives you low range, but still open diffs...Quadra-Drive gives you the limited slip rear differential....in the WJ Grand Cherokees Quadra-Drive gave you front and rear limited slip differentials, then in 2005 that was downgraded to just the rear limited slip for Quadra-Drive units.
hey alittle side note, I and im sure alot of people would be interested in a comprehensive video about tires, I could totally watch you geek out about different tires and tech involving them etc. maybe on this channel or your second channel. Question For Ryan - It seems you can't beat the off-road capability and clearance of the overland - I'm looking for a real world comparison to what the Subaru Ascent has to offer. I know this might seem like a bit of an apples and oranges question. I can look at specs, reviews and videos all day, but curious to know where the diminishing return on the Ascent truly shows in its AWD capability up and the Jeep Actually becomes necessary- justifying the 10k+ price gap on a new Ascent vs. a 2 year old used GCL Overland. We currently drive a 2015 Subaru Outback and have run out of space. I've got 2 kids, live Outside of Vancouver, BC and spend a fair amount of time on logging roads and marginally kept roads in the winter. Thanks.
Thanks for the car play tip. I am having the same issue on my Grand Cherokee L and it stress me out because really use this feature . I had to reset to factory setting several times .
Love the styling inside and out, but after owning 4 different Jeeps between my wife and I, the quality and reliability is just not there. It’s a shame because they have great styling and features… just bleh reliability. Great review!
I have owned five Grand Cherokee' all Limited, except my current 2020 GC Summit. Never a problem with any of them including the first three with Hemi's, last two with the 3.6L V-6. That said, the Quality is equal to that POS Audi my wife drives, last one, Audi after the lease expires in January of 2023.
I just bought a new 2022 JGC Limited only to find out next day the A/C is not working. Not blowing cold air. It has been in the delete for four days and cannot diagnose the issue. Delearship open a case and is waiting for Jeep to come back with some guidance. They check another one in the lot not sold yet and also has the same condition.....
Great review. I had an 2004 overland. It was an all weather beast 4.7 HO … around 6 /6.5 secs 0-60…. also Hmmm. I do believe the overland comes with quadra drive ll not Quadra track ll Jeep offers 3 4wd systems in the grand Cherokee. Quadra track l, ll and Quadra drive. The latter being the best.
According to Jeep it comes with Quadra Trac II. It’s listed specifically on their website for this trim. Trailhawk and Summit models get Quadra Drive II.
noise isolation is 75% of luxury IMHO so ...if it's not quiet enough ...it ain't luxury. McIntosh sound system means nothing if you have to crank it up to kill tire noise
I have the 2021 Grand Cherokee L Overland Trim, and I too suffer from the Infotainment BT connection issues. I've been fighting that since day one on July 30th of last year. I have an appointment tomorrow to take it in for that, and a Power Steering issue. Whenever you remote start the car the power steering comes up with errors, and provides very little assistance until you drive it a bit and then power cycle the car. Great video!
I do like the one I bought, the Cherokee L (limited) version, but having said that - mine is about 4 months old with 4300 miles on it and it's been in the shop 3 times now for (2) different recalls, followed by a "service 4WD" indicator light, which was supposed to be fixed with some software update, then they ended up replacing a drivetrain control module, that still did not clear the error. The larger U-connect head unit screen blacks out at random intervals, and the front dome lights don't stay on when engaged by the ceiling button(s), until you hit it 3-4 times. Disappointing for a $52,xxx SUV
I generally find that snow mode is really for slippery, winter road conditions. When I’m navigating snow or thick slush I usually end up needing wheel spin.
Love the review , Gave up my Overland for a Crosstrek. Features I did not like on the Overland : 1) navigation system, leave it to my phone which constantly updates 2) cockpit noice 3) fuel economy What I love : :1) quadilift so awesome 2) interior is amazing 3) curb appeal. Love the look , Ryan great review
@@georgesnyder5337 My point is : The cost of installing a factory Navi system is a waste of money so why does a manufacturer even bother since we have our smart phones that are constantly updated. Back when I owned the jeep a software upgrade on the Navi was over $200. What a waste of money.
fyi i have this vehicle and it does have autostee, you have to press the center button for it to be active... the button to the right of CANC with the steering wheel icon
On my trip to Florida over Christmas, the entertainment system would just crash every couple of hours I had a hold down the volume and the mode button but it was just the most annoying thing. I ran Android auto with a pixel 4a and apple car play with a 6s. Annoying and sorta scary when driving at night. BUT I love the jeep size and capability, especially since I don't like driving large SUVs this was perfect.
If they could fix the glitches it would make this a much more compelling offering. Yesterday the pedestrian collision detection just turned off on our 2022 Jeep Compass. It re-enabled just fine in the menu. But why Jeep, WHY?!

I think most snow modes are not calibrated for the deep snow, but for the hard packed plowed surfaces most people encounter. They certainly need a deep snow setting.
Agreed. I have never seen anyone in the worst case winter scenario situations be successful in snow mode. You almost always need more wheel spin!
Sand is basically for deep snow. No need for another mode.
Yeah I feel it's just a marketing decision as for most people the conditions they see is what you described, not the deep stuff.
All these modes is pointless; just give me one mode; my right foot and my two hands. That will get me through anything.

The twin turbo inline 6 should be coming soonish, that will displace around 525 hp. They also have the 4xe with a turbo 4 cylinder and the 5.7 hemi. The outgoing Overland goes for over 60k with the same engines so not sure why you were expecting a big change.
@@tylerdm1842 hopefully that engine will do well for them, new engine new problems yk
That interior is super nice, but agree with the piano black, not good material. Also, I personally like when the screen is closer to eye level so I don’t have to look down
The overland also comes with 3 rows.
Go on Jeep and build one mine came to 63,453.
This is with the expensive packages
This Jeep is so comfortable.
You had a bad battery I’m guessing. Low battery voltages have always caused fits with electronics in these.
Its just the battery
Especially for such an expensive car.
or you could have installed the protective film over piano black
You bought a car based off color options? 😅 that's a first
Great review. I will look hard at a Grand Cherokee when I move to north Idaho in a couple years. I have learned a lot about how these off-road systems work from watching your various reviews. I think that last part when you switched to sand/mud was an excellent example of the difference between the two modes.
Get the V8. The V6 will let you down
Not sure if it was intentional but you said water "fjording" (fyording). Fjord is a noun. What you meant was just fording.
It was a slip and we left it in.
I'd be interested to see this test with a ~$45k Laredo. This truck is nice, but the price is in another world.
Inflation
i think the funny thing is that the $45k laredo isnt much more capable than any other cross over.
And when can you option a V8? I love my 06 Limited with the Hemi in it. Sucks on gas; but it tows great and is great in bad weather. This is way overpriced for what you get.
@@paulm6481 You misspelled corporate greed.
Piano black interior parts could be covered with paint protection film.
I get them replaced with real wood.
Amazing review! Can you review the Wagoneer and or Grand Wagoneer next? I would love to see them do this trail.
We have the Grand Wagoneer getting dropped off next week for filming.
It looks really nice, but I’m still in love with my 15 overlander.
So even at max height it doesn’t bottom out suspension like old model?
holy cow, $65k for a Grand Cherokee Overland now? My 18 GC Trailhawk MSRP was 'only' ~$51k, Overland trim wasn't that much more, maybe around $53k or so back then.
Now the Price is higher like sky 😏🙄
Is that surface rust in the shot of the air suspension?
This was great not going to lie when you did the snow test on mountains I was like 😰👀 felt like a suspense movie lol . Great video 👏🏽👏🏽
Wish he would change the name to Driving Sport TV: Legs and Torso proportionate.
thank you Ryan.. you make great reviews 🙂
Hi, Thanks for showing how to reboot the infotainment system. Uconnect disconnect most of the time & it’s really takes a lot to reconnect.
I have an 2014 overland with Quadra drive included as an option…..no trail rated badge. It is my understanding, however, that any Grand Cherokee with a trail rated badge has Quadra drive, which includes the electronic rear limited slip differential.
Enjoying watching your reviews, thank you!
Does the overland come with the off-road cameras like the trail hawk?
Great video, i learned a lot.
When trurning around, in 4x4 normal would be good, knowledge to know.
Thanks from Nova Scotia.
Awesome revue we wanna see it work and you did exactly that
Yep, with better tires for those conditions it would have just kept on going up that hill.
@@wildbill23c oohh man 2 limited slip diffs would be amazing
hey alittle side note, I and im sure alot of people would be interested in a comprehensive video about tires, I could totally watch you geek out about different tires and tech involving them etc. maybe on this channel or your second channel. Thanks for another great video. from one washington guy to another these videos rock!!
Ugghh is that hard plastic where tour knee is on either side of the media and storage console?
Same problem with my CarPlay too so after so many tries I connected Bluetooth and after some time it asked so do you want to connect carplay and it came. But after so much time
Question For Ryan - It seems you can't beat the off-road capability and clearance of the overland - I'm looking for a real world comparison to what the Subaru Ascent has to offer.
Great video, Ryan! Thank you!
This thing looks really great
Love the styling inside and out, but after owning 4 different Jeeps between my wife and I, the quality and reliability is just not there.
"did I leave the shovel at the bottom of the mountain? Yes i did." Classic Ryan :)
Great video. Do these vehicles show you how high above sea level you are?
This car is very nice! Beautiful.
I dig that Subaru jacket!
I was just scrolling through the comments to see if I was the only one?! Where did you get that jacket Ryan...us goofy subie guys really are jealous!
More Nick ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is an awesome video review
Very capable vehicle but not sure if this is better than Wrangler Rubicon based on the price tag. The review is great, nothing useless.
Great review. I had an 2004 overland. It was an all weather beast 4.7 HO … around 6 /6.5 secs 0-60…. also Hmmm. I do believe the overland comes with quadra drive ll not Quadra track ll
Jeep offers 3 4wd systems in the grand Cherokee. Quadra track l, ll and Quadra drive. The latter being the best.
According to Jeep it comes with Quadra Trac II. It’s listed specifically on their website for this trim. Trailhawk and Summit models get Quadra Drive II.
@@drivingsports ok thanks. That’s the difference. U could probably order it with it. It was standard on my overland.
@@drivingsports love the channel. Been watching it for years
Upgraded. I now hv the Cherokee Trailhawk 2019
@@drivingsports just did a little research. Quadra drive is an option on the overland and standard on trailhawk. . 🧐
It’s a far better system
I want one of these big time. But man the overland model is costly.
Ah yes, the almighty Nexen Zzzzuurh-ZeePriz tire. Great bite to it. XD
Awesome review, was waiting for this one.
I've noticed similar issues with Apple Car Play cutting off in the India spec Jeep compass too. Cuts in and out randomly.
noise isolation is 75% of luxury IMHO so ...if it's not quiet enough ...it ain't luxury. McIntosh sound system means nothing if you have to crank it up to kill tire noise
unfortunately, otherwise would be a great buy, previous GC is loud as well, though Cherokee is not, and it shares alpha-romeo platform with new one.
@@balabolrustam507 so what you are saying Regular cherokee has better sound isolation than grand?
@@Drogos79 yes , at least no tire humming on rough surfaces .
I take my Overland off road in fact I'm going this weekend
really digging this model.
Good review! I'd love to have a Jeep but worry about their reliability track record. Handsome SUV though.
In the past, if it came with the ELSD, it was the quadradrive II 4 wheel drive system, has that changed?
Isn’t a Quadra track 2 with rear ELSD the same thing as the current version of Quadra Drive 2?
Does the vehicle have an app I can use to turn on heating/ac when i'm not in it?
Great review sir one of the best I have seen very thorough
I generally find that snow mode is really for slippery, winter road conditions. When I’m navigating snow or thick slush I usually end up needing wheel spin.
Amazing slow mo stills captured
You keep saying quadra trac ii in the video but if it has the rear eLSD (which the off road pack does) would it not be Quadra-Drive II?
Love the review , Gave up my Overland for a Crosstrek. Features I did not like on the Overland :
1) navigation system, leave it to my phone which constantly updates
2) cockpit noice
3) fuel economy
What I love :
:1) quadilift so awesome
2) interior is amazing
3) curb appeal. Love the look ,
Ryan great review
You have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so don't understand your navigation comment.
@@georgesnyder5337 My point is :
The cost of installing a factory Navi system is a waste of money so why does a manufacturer even bother since we have our smart phones that are constantly updated.
Back when I owned the jeep a software upgrade on the Navi was over $200. What a waste of money.
How come this overland has the 2 tune colour exterior ?? I thought its only allowed on summit !! Is it an aftermarket wrapping ?
Sometimes test vehicles have unavailable options.
Tasteful redesign but I wonder if reliability has improved???
fyi i have this vehicle and it does have autostee, you have to press the center button for it to be active... the button to the right of CANC with the steering wheel icon
What packages are in the car you don mind asking ?
Nice reveiw I hope that suv has a skid plate
But why Jeep, WHY?!
wow, i have my share of Android glitching in TV and hand held devices, but nothing like this, they need to get devs back in office chairs and do their work, it's not like they have to crawl in 130° attics to perform
21:40 and that's why I LOVE Jeep🤩🤩🤩
