    I wish I could play Pikmin 1 with the engine of Pikmin 3. All the AI and control improvements would make it so much better!
    ...except I wouldn't wanna lose the ability to swarm Pikmin. They have to bring that back!

      ShyGuyXXL but in pikmin 3 isnt the c-stick funktion. you need to tap the enemy in the pad and let ALL the pikmin attack which is stupid.

    I feel like you missed a huge opportunity to mention how the narrative and gameplay are strongly intertwined and help improve one another unlike a lot of other games. In Pikmin 1 the limited timeline and end of day journals help create a sense of attachment to Olimar and his life on Hocotate. In pikmin two non treasures only gave you 1-25 pokos which encouraged players to do the intended plot of going after treasures instead of simply grinding on enemies (not to mention the nuclear world lore that is alluded to by the hemisphere treasures you use to unlock new areas ). The *SPOILERS* Louie food stealing twist in Pikmin 3 encouraged the players to act quickly and optimize during the event sequence. I'm sure their are more examples but this is what came to my head at 11:39 PM.

      Some great points here. Thank you for tagging your spoilers as well. There are obvious reasons we didn't discuss that section of the game, though we took several notes on how Pikmin 3 (specifically that situation) backs the player into a corner just as they are getting comfortable and kicks you into a survival mode reminiscent of Pikmin 1. As for the possible nuclear lore, that didn't really fit in the topic of our channel, and is more fit for someone like Game Theory to discuss, and the video was already plenty long without discussing Easter Eggs. You're correct on the unfortunate lack of nightly journal discussions, but without showing the majority of them, it's hard to give viewers a sense of Olimar's personal journey over the thirty days.
      Thanks for the feedback! We hope you enjoyed the video and that you come back for our next episode!

    It may just be because these are my favourite games of all time, but I feel like a lot of these aren’t deserved, especially the value. I can’t believe you saying this will go back on the shelf, I have replayed it at least 8 times and I keep replaying the other entries, especially Pikmin 3. And going for the lowest number of days is addicting. The value for this game is incredible.

    • @WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming
      @WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Jackson here! Thank you for giving your opinions. Before I even reference your comment, please let me acknowledge that our scoring system was incredibly broken and has no basis (thus, the reason we've dropped it in our other analyses). Now on to the nature of "Value": Pikmin 2 was my favorite game of all time for several years, and the other games have a place of pride simply because of their relation. I know that the addiction of pushing for the lowest day count is meant to drive players to compete with themselves for a replay-ability factor, however when calculating that feature, we also had to consider how this game would feel to *anyone* who picked it up, not just the die-hard fans. A lot of the time, Pikmin 1's difficulty can be a turn off for players that I've talked to, even though I admit I've spent my own fair number of attempts on beating it as quickly as possible (and I wish I could go back and remove those comments from the video itself, as they don't really add anything).
      As for your 'Mission Mode' comment: I feel as though it was a very washed up version of the challenge mode we had in Pikmin 2, due to personal associations of how much time I spent in those modes. The Mission Mode simply didn't feel as full, in my opinion. And as for DLC, we have stopped discussing it in future episodes for the most part, because even though we at this channel don't enjoy buying extra content, we understand there are many fans out there who want to support their favorite developers, and buying the DLC is no crime, of course.
      I'm glad to see such strong opinions though! Our goal at this channel is to simply get people talking more about the aspects of games that they love in order to create a better environment for gamers.

    • @benschiemer
      @benschiemer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I guess it’s fair enough to say that most people wouldn’t replay them over and over. I guess since I only got these games two years ago and they are extremely difficult to obtain (well, the first two) I really only think of the people that play these games as die hard fans, though I guess when they were first released your points would be acurate. And the comment on Challenge mode is fair enough, I just personally think Mission Mode is more fleshed out and a better, more fun experience, though that’s just my opinion.

    I started playing Pikmin 1 as a 7-year-old, and do I not once regret the "unforgivableness" of the game. Although I have not come back to the game since entering middle school, and thus have still not gained all 30 parts (haha), perhaps in the future I will find time to finally achieve that goal. It never struck me as a very difficult game or a game that was hard to master. It was always fun to play. It was also my first real-time strategy game. Given that you learn along the way, a second playthrough of the game will be much more rewarding. I suggest to anyone looking into play the Pikmin games start with the first of the franchise and then continue on. You will not regret it, no matter how much you fail at first.

    Pikmin 2 (ピクミン2 Pikumin Tsū?) is a 2004 real-time strategy video game developed and published by Nintendo for the GameCube video game console. The game is the direct sequel to the 2001 game Pikmin and is the second game in the Pikmin series.
    Like its predecessor, Pikmin 2 focuses on exploring the surface of an unknown planet from a microscopic perspective, where the player directs and delegates tasks to a horde of tiny plant-like creatures called Pikmin. The Pikmin can be directed to destroy obstacles, defeat enemies, and retrieve objects. Pikmin 2 introduces many gameplay mechanics not seen in Pikmin, including the ability to control two different leaders of the Pikmin at once and the addition of new Pikmin types.
    Pikmin 2 received critical acclaim, gaining aggregate scores of 89.60% and 90 on GameRankings and Metacritic, respectively.[4][5] Many critics praised the additions to the Pikmin gameplay, such as the removal of the 30-day time limit imposed in the original game. The game (and its predecessor) was ported to the Wii in 2009 as a New Play Control! title. The sequel to the game, Pikmin 3, was released in 2013 for the Wii U console.

    Since I just discovered this channel and since this is an old video with a redone version also available, I'm going to save my comments on why Pikmin is great for that one, and instead comment on what games I'd like to seen an installment of eventually:
    -What's So Great About UNDERTALE?
    -What's So Great About WARIO LAND 4?
    -What's So Great About CHRONO TRIGGER?
    -What's So Great About TETRIS?
    -What's So Great About CAVE STORY?
    -What's So Great About SUPER SMASH BROS.?
    -What's So Great About FINAL FANTASY VII?
    -What's So Great About RESIDENT EVIL 4?
    -What's So Great About THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND?
    -What's So Great About PUNCH-OUT!!? (either Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!, Punch-Out!! for the Wii, or just the series in general)
    Hopefully you'll consider some of these!
    Edit: So this is the first episode, I can see you're still working on what you're doing with this series, and personally I'm glad you dropped the scores for various categories of the games you go over. I feel like attributing a number to them devalues the analysis as a whole, since I'm more interested in, well, why a game is great, not where it flits on a sliding scale of 1 to 10. Scores are also hard to quantify in some cases and need further elaboration, like you did with giving the aesthetics of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 3 a score of 10. They just seem kind of pointless, even arbitrary, which I'm assuming you eventually realized yourself, hence why they aren't in the more modern videos.

    I love all the pikmin games but I think the final ratings were based off for new players. Pikmin 3 got a 9, but any fan who's played all games will tell you it's not their favourite. And I understand that the replayibility of pikmin 1 and 3 isn't as good (I've still played pikmin 1 10 times over) but pikmin 2 has the best replayibility I think I've ever seen. The caves are randomly generated so you always have a new experience but you come back for the overworld and it's music. Overall good review though

    • @Pro_GameMaster888

      And not only that after collecting all the treasure, you are now free to do anything in Pikmin 2. Whether it's glitches, Easter eggs, sprouting more Pikmin, and returning to recent areas, Pikmin 2 has brought out an unlimited user experience. Unlike Pikmin 1 and 3 after completing story mode, you can't continue on with the upcoming days upon the day you beat the game.

    I feel like Pikmin 1 did story quite a bit better than 2 did. The thing with Pikmin 1 is that while the story is simplistic, it is interesting and it is presented in a way that made me feel the personal stakes involved. I can feel Olimar's desperation as the clock ticks down.
    With Pikmin 2, I just can't be bothered to care about the stakes involved. They're much more impersonal and don't feel anywhere near as interesting.
    Though, to be fair, I do agree that Pikmin 2 is overall a marginally better game.

      That's one we'll definitely be tackling in the future! It's pretty expansive though recording all the way back to Arena and Daggerfall, so it may have to wait for a bit. Maybe we'll do a separate mini video in Skyrim when the remaster comes out.

      What'sSoGreatAboutGaming Perhaps one game at a time? Do one on Arena, then Daggerfall, Morrowind, ect. Could cut down on video length, and allow for a steady stream of content without shoving it all into a 40 minute long video. Plus, it could go more in-depth why each game is special in their own right.
      Either way, I'll be excited for any future videos! Very good video, can expect more good ones in the future, whatever the series

    Yeah no. I finished Pikmin 3 in a single weekend, and other than looking pretty, it didn't improve on Pikmin 2's gameplay at all. The complete removal of caves, and extreme limitation of exploration made the whole game feel more like a tutorial, which is the last thing the series needed. Also much of the charm and personality of the piklopedia, and journals was sucked out for no real explainable reason. I know this video is two years old and you don't have too many subs so I don't want to be rude, it is clear you put a lot of effort into this, but I can't rationally see pikmin 3 being even half as good as 2. I might have enjoyed it more than 1, that is arguable, but yeah no, it is a few miles from the best entry.

      It's been quite a while since I wrote that episode, but what I *think* we were trying to say (since it's around the topic of visual appearances of each Pikmin) is that in the second game, you can instantly tell that yellow Pikmin were resistant to electricity, while in the first game, it was a problem to tell what they were used for since there wasn't really an immediate way to indicate their higher arc when thrown. But you're right, that part is poorly worded nonetheless.

    Pikmin 3, compared to the first 2, I'd definitely give it the lowest overall score. The visuals and gameplay were definitely improved on quite a lot from Pikmin 2, but the shear lack of content leaves A LOT to be desired.
    Throughout the whole time I was playing the game, I was thinking "Ok after this, the holes are gunna pop up and then we'll get the interesting dungeons and collectables back..." all the way up to the end where I was banking my last bit of hope that there would be a post-credits cutscene revealing there was at least something left to do after the extremely short playthrough of the game I had just completed.
    Alas, there was none and the expanded multiplayer and additional content being locked behind a paywall on launch was painful slap in the face. If these dungeons reserved for the disjointed multiplayer were simply incorporated into the game naturally by putting caves in each of the areas, the game could've been a much better experience.
    Final review: While the game is visually stunning and the new pikmin and mechanics are interesting and fun to play with, the mere 5 bosses and lack of dungeons incorporated into the main game leave the game feeling short, as though it were a title rushed out far before it was finished in order to sell the poorly marketed WiiU.

    • @WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming
      @WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would like to play devil's advocate here (even though I love Pikmin 2 the most by a long shot) for the sake of discussion, but do you think the caves/dungeons are meant to be a staple of the series? After all, the first game didn't have them at all. While the second entry was an advancement on Olimar and his previous adventure, the third game was an entirely new team who had never discovered such dungeons because they were not interested in treasure. In a thematic sense, why would the food supplies they're looking for be underground? I think Pikmin 3 was more of an adventure of the over-world terrain like Pikmin 1 in order to bring the series around to its roots.

    • @xmrmeow
      @xmrmeow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think dungeons really expand a lot on the gameplay. They definitely could've been better integrated with their surroundings (make them more visually similar to the area they're in), but I definitely think that they add so much to the gameplay that if they were to remove them, they'd need to expand on the overworld a lot or have some new area expansion mechanics to compensate.
      The way I see it, removing the dungeons after having them in Pikmin 2 with nothing to compensate is akin to having the Public Works in Animal Crossing:New Leaf, then having the next game remove them and not have anything that adds much on top of the gameplay of say City Folk.
      The dungeons add much more than just more to explore. Most of the dungeons feature a unique boss that drops a permanent power-up that benefits you, so removing dungeons means much fewer bosses and I believe there was only 1 power up in the entirety of pikmin 3 (Immunity to Fire. Pikmin 2 had 10 for comparison).

    Another installment near completion 😑 nice summary, wish there was more to say but given this is 4 years old it's not that out of date (sadly) 😅

    I personally don't think pikmin 1 is supposed to be played and beaten the first time around and i don't think it should be 100% the second time around it seems like pikmin 1 wants to encourage you play the game and then try to 100% it another time which is why they give 3 save files 1 for truly exploring and going through the levels 2 for optimizing what you learned and 3 for truly 100% optimization pretty much i think they wanted players to play 3-6 days on save 1 move to save 2 and do what you did in save 1 better get to where you are in save 1 then go back to save 1 and keep switching between then finally you 100% optimise your play through on the third.

      I love the exploration and the freedom that comes with it. I love its humor and how it never fails to put a smile on my face 😊 I love the replayability. I love the challenge of the original. Admittedly I'm mostly talking about the original PS1 version of the trilogy 😅 but I still love the PS4 remake 🙂 most of all I love that spark of imagination it inspires

    Pikmin 3 was the largest disappointment ever. Pikmin 3 felt like they catered it towards kids more than other pikmin games as well as tried to just use pikmin 3 to demonstrate the visual capacity of the new hardware. Heck, they even delayed the game likie 2-3 years beyond what they originally thought to transfer it over to the Wii U. Pikmin 2 has so much more replayabliity and is just overall a much better game. Btw, y hasn't nintendo offered a hard mode into the pikmin series? All they would have to do is offer a new enemy layout with maybe new attacks (more tricky to avoid), more health, and stronger from the get-go. I love a challenge... Challenge mode doesn't count...

      I actually found a fan-made hard mode for pikmin 2 where he devised new cave layouts and revamped enemy stats as well as reshuffled the enemy layouts throughout the entire game. It is one of the best fan-made mods I have ever played and has answered my cries for a hard mode for pikmin!

      Jackson here, I feel similarly. I bought the WiiU for Pikmin 3, hoping it would be even bigger than Pikmin 2, but it felt more like something in between the two previous entries. It was a beautiful game and it had a great story-line, but it wasn't quite worth waiting the better part of a decade for. If it had been it's own game, it might have been perfect as it was, but the lack of replay-ability really made it fall a little flat as a follow-up to Pikmin 2, which I invested a lot of time in back in the day.

    • @ApolloDawn85
      @ApolloDawn85 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I disagree. I find Pikmin 2 to be the least replayable Pikmin game. With Pikmin 1 and 3 I go back to almost every year to see if I can beat them any faster, but Pikmin 2 is so long that I honestly have only replayed it twice plus the caves in general can be frustrating. I think the Pikmin series is one of those series where there is no definitive "best" game and I enjoy each one for what they are.

    So Pikmin 3 is the best b7ut ACTUALLY Pikmin 2 is the best? I agree wholeheartedly. Though I question why you gave Pikmin 3 the 9 out of 10 instead of giving it to Pikmin 2 in that case. Also 8/10 for value seems to low, yes 8 is pretty high, but I have a hard time imagining a game with a higher value proposition. Even games that are longer, are generally not as fun. Like maybe Mount and Blade Warband can beat Pikmin 2. But not Hyrule warriors, because while longer, it's not as quality in time spent.
