Metroid prime was a wild experience when I was younger. When the soldiers first reanimated I was terrified and wanted more, lol.

Quite possibly my favourite game of all time. When I first played this game, I hadn't really played Metroid games before and this game certainly got me into the series. But, it was the scope, immersion, design, item progression and so on as mentioned here that make this game a masterpiece for me. And after having played more Metroid games, I can see retrospectively that Retro Studios did well to keep the spirit of Metroid intact while making changes.

Same here, never played a metroid game before. Has always been in my top 3 games of all time. I come back to metroid prime every few years to play through it.

Heck yeah 1st metroid prime was waaay ahead of it's time with atmosphere building, story driven, and the lens flare when using the gun-arm, where you can see her reflection from inside her helmet. Friggin fantastic and I haven't really seen that type of detail since.

First Metroid game for me too. Finished it, but really hated the substantial amount of backtracking and thought I would never play it again. But the game grew on me and ended up replaying it more than once. The atmosphere, the exploration, the soundtrack, the minimalist tone and later on the superb Wii motion controls. A masterpiece.

I think it's so neat the blaster selection menu features the hand gesture Samus makes inside the arm cannon. It isn't much but it adds a little something to it

Strong video for a strong game! I am begging for the trilogy to get a HD release on the switch this year! Please Nintendo - you can do it!

Hoping and praying for a port of the trilogy to Switch while we wait for MP4.

If they port it to switch, I hope they update the controls to have more user friendly options. The OG GameCube controllers were fine, and I agree with Jackson's assessment, but the motion controls on the Wii are... annoying... to say the least. This wouldn't have been all that bad, but the Wii port doesn't have standard controller support. It has to be played wiimote/nunchuck. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I found it incredibly irritating. Having the ability to use either motion controls or a standard controller, and being able to swap controller layouts between original controls and modern, standard fps controls would be a huge quality of life upgrade.

@@Theophicles I was under the impression a lot of people liked the motion controls for the Wii port. I agree though, the choice between standard and motion controls would be ideal.

I've never finished this game, actually. This is not a knock against this game, I just have a really difficult time getting into first-person shooters... or any game played from a first-person perspective, for that matter. I've been meaning to give this game another shot, since it's been well over a decade since I last tried to play it, and maybe I'm more able to get into it now, especially since it's such a stand-out example of great FPS games.

I'm glad that Nintendo realized that the tech wasn't there so they skipped the N64 gen for a 3D metroid
