The sad thing is AC4 actually did all this better than this dedicated Pirate game, also many other AC games allowed you to board ships and fight. If Skull and Bones had spent as much time adding ship boarding and swashbuckling as they did box ticking it may have been a worthy Pirate game.
Not suprised at this point. The sub reddit is licking this game ass though
Thank you for all your hard work and years of content Mack! Been subbed to your channel since 2015!
This game is the best advertisement for Black Flag I've seen.
Sid Meir's Pirates! is still the gold standard as far as I'm concerned
But Mack....
It's AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA game!!!
The more A's there are, the more half-AAAAAAssed it is XD
Don’t forget Ubisoft says to get used to not owning games. I’m not to worried about owning Ubisoft games at this point….
At this rate, Ubisoft would need to pay me to play their games. Maybe that is what they are talking about doing. Change the landscape of gaming....
It is the usual corporate greed from Big IT.
Their ideal is Gaming as as Service, ideally server / cloud dependent, packed with (micro) transactions, surprise mechanical, you own nothing subscription, forcing diversity down your throat and whatever holes you have, shallow gameplay etc.
Of course people can stop this by not buying into the business model.
People decide where and when this stops.
Except that quote applied to subscription services like Ubisoft+, GamePass, EA Play etc. but you can't beat taking something out of context to shit on something you don't like and forcing a narrative to spread misinformation and propaganda. Fun times.
epic burn and truth
@@TK421-53 TK421 you are alive! Why aren’t you at your post?
no sword and boarding combat in a pirate game.
11 years in the making.
AAAA must mean that they wasted more time and budget than they would have with a AAA game.
Who needs boarding, that sounds boring, you wanna upgrade n stuff right? Upgrade n collect, like, like, like Destiny here look Destiny lots collect goodies yummy progression very neat, we have that too! See here that coconut tree, now you click the tree and, be careful not to miss the sacred spot, strike at the right time when the icon shifts to get a coconut! Yes yes, lots of stuff, collect stuff, good good, good game, very good.
I’m okay with no boarding and wash buckling. We already have that with Sea of Theives and that game didn’t so so well not I’m not sure why everyone is complaining when they didn’t show a high demand for sea of thieves. Kind of weird if you ask me.
@@alexmendez3681then why release it at all? The only sea of thieves content I EVER saw popular on TH-cam was when people boarded ships
@@BanditoBurrito Because it’s a different experience! This game focuses on nautical combat. Some of us are tired of shooters and first person games.
Again, why design a game that is exactly like Sea of Thieves? That game was trash and no one bought it but now you guys want that same game again, make that make sense. If you want a sea of thieves experience than play sea of thieves. Haha. I’m so confused.
Boarding...no that would take work, and Ubisoft only had 13 years to make this. Lol, that was gold.
Yo mate I STRONGLY disagree. Cuz, you know, I played AC Odyssey back then and... well, they had ships (with upgrading and crew stuff) and you could also shoot and also board enemy ships and then play the AC-Arcade style combat on top of ships like... Well I did not even play Black Flag back then, but it seems even the other AC games had more pirate gameplay than a dedicated pirate game? My point being: Copy pasta your own games and you have boarding LOL. With 0 work MORE LOL.
Did they just invest into upgrading graphics for 13 years and didn't even bother to add gameplay to their game? I am left speechless after seeing all of that... (wait the graphics look like arcade s*** that would have been possible 13 years ago OMG WTF
@@puffel3178 didnt ask
Play black flag or any other Assassins creed if you want that 🤷♂️
It's pretty obvious they cancelled the game and had a "new vision" of trying like hell to recoup their cost at our cost.
Because when I think of pirates, I definitely think of a ship full women shouting incessantly...
Not even worth pirating
All we wanted was Sid Meier's Pirates using the Black Flag engine.
what u crazy , an open world Pirate game based on the Black Flag fundamentals, add the ability to walk around the ship in 1st person while sailing, fleet management, do raids on forts , towns, get chased down by the Royal Navy and maybe have some form of Shadow of Mordor Nemesis system against other Pirates, no one would want that :)
damn that was a great game! Forgot about that one.
Agree
Dream on!! ....with thousands of other likeminded gamers!!
That sounds pretty sick forgot about that shadow of Mordor game the nemesis system was great @@davidrenton
I remember playing a pirate game from 1999 called Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas. You had ship to ship fighting, boarding, and the ability to go ashore with your crew and have land battles against towns, loot houses, blow up garrisons, and capture the town governor. It had the lot. Skull and Bones, a AAAA pirate game that has less depth than a game from 1999... smh.
That's the norm for AAA too lol. I don't buy corpo slop games anymore.
7 Cities of Gold for the C64 is deeper...
i remember a old game corsairs or something it also had boarding ather ships and fighting on the deck in window 95 era... + also attack towns / resupply and capture ather ships for you're fleet. Way more advanced then this trash pile of ubisoft XD dissapointment

I am never going to be able to look at the character creation screen with a straight face ever again. 🤣
I'll never look at that character creation screen. (period).
Though this one time was quite funny I agree 🙂
What were they thinking?
That absolutely cracked me up. Have no idea what they were thinking ...
Wait you bought this shite? I thought that was a joke at first but that's actually in the game? Holy shit, it's so fucking creepy
How even could anyone in the first place. They literally look like someone is fcking them in the a and they are loving it... 🤮
Back in the day, I played a Pirates of the Carribean game. It had features like exploring towns, islands, caves and dungeons on foot. You could steal enemy ships and have a group of 4 ships. There was actual sword and pistol fighting when you board ships or attack forts. Storms were very dangerous, especially trying to fight inside a storm. It had so many features that one would expect from a pirate game that this is completely missing.
An upgraded version of this came out just yesterday on steam.
Apparently there are some bugs to be fixed, but otherwise you might want to put it on your wishlist.
It's called Caribbean Legend and I have my eyes on it too. 🖖
Looks way more like a proper pirate game than Skull and Bones. @@theinnerlight8016
"Honestly, "Caribbean Legend" is just "Sea Dogs: To Each His Own" from 2012 with a "new" coat of paint. Expected a fresh adventure but got the same old bugs, outdated graphics, and clunky gameplay. The engine feels ancient, and the controls haven't improved at all.
Disappointed big time. Not worth the hype or money."
Yep I copied this from a steam review. @@theinnerlight8016
It’s when people who made these games had imagination. Ubisoft don’t care about games anymore. It’s lazy and greedy game making now that’s taken over. It’s sad because the potential is enormous.
This was the Bethesda version were you didn't play as any of the film characters? Was a great game
The first time I came across a man o war in Black Flag I shit my panties.
I think that's what players wanted Ubisoft to recapture.
They did not.
When we encountered our first sea monster in Valheim our all crew went OOOOOOHH SHIT!!!
To be honest there are some high level privateers that will wreck you, later on in the game. It's fun if you have the plus subscription but not worth 70 bucks.
My heart still stops whenever the little boat in the distance turns out to not be so little up close..
I played ac4 a shit ton. Man o war would still scare me lol
Yeah that's my favourite pirate game for sure. The actual pirate part of Black Flag would be a great game on its own without the weird AC storylines and setpiece fights and that. In fact in my last playthrough, I barely advanced the story at all, just sailed around taking over other ships and exploring islands

Genius! 😂😂 perfect summary of current Ubisoft
To quote @fleekazoid "If this is an 'AAAA' game, then Candy Crush is an 'AAAAA' game."
The AAAA thing just refers to budget, it just means they spent a, quite frankly, criminal amount of money to make it lol. I'm sure Candy Crush was made for pennies in comparison. I bet Candy Crush had made far more money than this will, though.
@@BarneyGoogl It used to refer to budget, now it refers to scope and ambition. This game has neither.
@@Pankypops it can also stand for effort and quality
well as you should when you are making a pirate game😂 i mean spending anything less than a criminal amount on making a pirate game would be a crime😂(just be careful Ubisoft you know pirates exist in the real world too and they get tons of downloads when a game is overpriced)@@BarneyGoogl
@@Pankypops It's never referred to that, and people only assume it means scope and ambition/quality. Every time you hear someone talk about the A's from a studio, they mean budget.

Any game taking longer than 5 years to make should be a huge red flag. I think the more development time and money spent after that just muddies the original vision and signals that the suits got involved and changed everything multiple times.
this is the PEAK ubisoft game - it just cannot get more ubisoft than this
Ubisoft: is that a challenge?
It’s unbelievable that they released this and all you is sail on a ship shooting other ships. It’s mindblowing.
Does it actually have wind and sail mechanics?
Considering the gov of Singapore was involved in this with heavy money, Ubisoft was basically forced to release it, in whatever state wouldn't actually matter, they had to get this game out, no matter what, otherwise the Singapore folks would have lawsuited Ubi's arses off to the next moon.
@@Lorifel0 People in subreddit said that it does have wind mechanics. Unfortunately, you can't turn your sails so that the wind would be in your favor.
I glad I got to play the trial version… saved me $70. I thought we would get sword fights ect but all you can do is sail and shoot other ships. The steering is trash too hahaha. I thought it would get better, but it didn’t.

Psssh, like they do any work. Not at all.
it's the Fortnitification of gaming. That's what happens when profit leads artistic decisions.
The state of Ubisoft and the industry ffs 🤣
I'm 32 years old, been gaming since I was young. For those of you that remember going into stores to buy games, this is the sad thing for me. There was a time when you saw company names on the box like Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda and that meant something. It meant you was buying a quality game; just having company names like that meant that you didn't need to see an old 480p IGN review, or read up on a game through official Xbox/ PlayStation magazine. That's the real shame for me on how companies had the reputations they did; and yet completely soil that to modern day gaming :(
Ah man, some of the most fun of had gaming was when I used to go into a game shop with absolutely no idea what I was looking for, spending 10 to 15 minutes picking up games with cool names, staring at the pictures on the back then fucking off to play these random games. No trailers, no review sites, just fun. Anything that had a 12 to 18 rating and a picture of explosions on the back got bought. I came away with all sorts that I probably wouldn’t have touched if I saw trailers. Good times. Sometimes I’ll run up to the second hand shop to find something for an old gen console, you’d be suprised how much random shit exists that nobodies ever heard off, it’s all better than what comes out nowadays.
@hydra8612 completely agree mate! The times of company names and box art alone being enough to sell you a game! Luckily that isnt the sales tactic anymore, which is good for us since we're comparing it to modern day games.
I do still find joy in alot of modern games, but to me if we're talking in terms of era, like console generations, Xbox 360 and PS3. Sooooo many smash hits and randomness that all seemed to be their own thing.
Put it this way, I still play games from a decade or two ago more than anything modern. There's still gems out there, just seems we had a whole treasure chest back in the day!
I bet like half the gamers today can't even imagine the good old days when today's most hated companies were liked and making good games. That Blizzard or Bioware logos were marks of quality and instant hits.
And gaming magazines people were trustworthy hobbysts who knew and liked games. I think that is what we wanted in the 90s, but going mainstream and online really destroyed games.
@Sicarius888 couldn't agree more! Actually sad that young gamers will never no the kind of milestones that games like Halo/ Crysis/ Mass Effect laid out. A time when you paid a single/ fair price for a game, good and long story, fun multilayer, single player dlc and overall, plenty of replayabality.
I think that's where the disconnect is between us and the developers. Now we pay more than double the money for the complete edition, only to then get half a product.
Young kids will enjoy their Minecraft, Roblocks, Fortnite, PUBG ect. And I'm OK with that. But devs have to understand that their main target market for games like this; are people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. So because we had that point in time, we aren't gonna settle for anything less, or we'll just play old games.
Last thing I'll say, last game I pre-ordered, was AC Unity, let that sink in..
In my time we rented a game for the weekend to see if it was any good. Mario Bros 3 blew my mind. EA sports and Konami were the companies I searched for when looking for a game in the late 90's. Man how gaming has changed. Not for the good I know that.
sids miers pirates was released in 1987 and you could get out the ship, fight pirates and search for treasure. there is a lesson here

There's always some idiots.
I was so close to buy this game, I am glad I checked for a gameplay first. I would be so scammed from ubisoft. This shiiit locks like an early access game not a full release.
Don't forget the sea shanties. Sailing across the map and then your crew starts singing. I loved that.
Play AC rogue if you haven't already, it's the sequel l to AC 4, has exactly the same game play , but it's set back in North America like AC 3 instead of the Caribbean.
Fucking hell that character creator segment made me laugh out loud
To be fair, it has been said that the British navy was built on sodomy, the lash and rum
If Ubi goes under I will not shed a single tear.
Come on now, Rayman was a challenge twenty years ago ;)
The game industry will be better without them.
A bit like Atari's crash in the 80s, I think that the end of that era would leave a bitter sweet feeling. Maybe not right away, but certainly in hindsight.
Come on now, where will be the CTRL + C CTRL + V Assassin's Creed every year? Someone has to compete with Call of Duty.

The "hen party on a pirate boat" shit had me in fucking stitches! 😂
For me in AC4 Black Flag the boats wer slow and cumbersome they had weight and were not easy to manoeuvre, the cannons took time to reload, you had to fight the current of the water and the wind all of this was brilliant as it added so much to the realism. All of that is gone in S&B and the boats they move on a sixpence and instead of feeling like being in command of a ship you feel like you're playing with a toy boat in the bath.

A game about NAVAL combat, so much potential. A lot of strategy to consider, a lot of environmental factors, it could have been amazing.
This is literally just a modern tank game, but the tanks have been reskinned to look like boats and got a little wiggle going on.
sid mieres pirates seems to have more that this
So, Ubisoft is acting like they've never made a pirate game before. They literally had a blueprint for how to make a pirate game: make Black Flag again, but without the assassins and with more pirate-related activities, using Black Flag as your base to start developing the game.
A reskin of AC Valhalla would have been a pirate game. You have a family/crew conquering a new land. You have base, settlement building. You have raiding locations for loot. Scrap the whole map and give us ocean and a boat. Done, easy 8/10 game.
save yourself and get Black Flag instead which actually lets you leave your ship and use your sword when boarding.

So it’s Skull and Bras
And bras with beards... lots of them when you actually look close to your crew... and once you do, you'll start spotting them on enemy ships and cash store..
Been watching you since I was 16 and I’m 22 now, still makes me cry with laughter with the little digs u make at Shit games like this, I’m in stitches man
Is it me.... or was Black Flag better at ship battles? This seems like a huge step backwards. If I work for Ubisoft I'm looking for a new job before the layoffs come.
7:50 That is some quadruple gaming right there baby!
They already created such a good and solid basis for a pirate game with AC: Black Flag...just to throw it all away. Oh Ubisoft...
This is literally just the ship part of AC black flag, Rogue and Odyssey with certain features removed (boarding). That and the rest of these games, the actual game part, was cut too lol
And they really think they can get away with charging 74 bucks for this haha
Exactly. This needs to flop big time, I hope nobody buys this piece of crap.
It’s worse because the combat was harder in black flag and more rewarding
Truly one of the best AAAA games of all time.
Looks like it would be okay on a deep sale.
I don't care about the inclusion of women, it isn't meant to be a historical piece.
As you said, it plays like an arcade game.
