The sad thing is AC4 actually did all this better than this dedicated Pirate game, also many other AC games allowed you to board ships and fight. If Skull and Bones had spent as much time adding ship boarding and swashbuckling as they did box ticking it may have been a worthy Pirate game.
Not suprised at this point. The sub reddit is licking this game ass though
Thank you for all your hard work and years of content Mack! Been subbed to your channel since 2015!
This game is the best advertisement for Black Flag I've seen.
Sid Meir's Pirates! is still the gold standard as far as I'm concerned
But Mack....
It's AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA game!!!
The more A's there are, the more half-AAAAAAssed it is XD
AAA just means shit to me, AAAA means I just stepped in it and tracked it into the carpet.
lmfao xD
For real, its like a warning label for me for years by now.
"If you hear AAA, stay away \o/"
LOL!
Don’t forget Ubisoft says to get used to not owning games. I’m not to worried about owning Ubisoft games at this point….
At this rate, Ubisoft would need to pay me to play their games. Maybe that is what they are talking about doing. Change the landscape of gaming....
It is the usual corporate greed from Big IT.
Their ideal is Gaming as as Service, ideally server / cloud dependent, packed with (micro) transactions, surprise mechanical, you own nothing subscription, forcing diversity down your throat and whatever holes you have, shallow gameplay etc.
Of course people can stop this by not buying into the business model.
People decide where and when this stops.
Except that quote applied to subscription services like Ubisoft+, GamePass, EA Play etc. but you can't beat taking something out of context to shit on something you don't like and forcing a narrative to spread misinformation and propaganda. Fun times.
epic burn and truth
@@Getoffmycloud53 TK421 you are alive! Why aren’t you at your post?
Back in the day, I played a Pirates of the Carribean game. It had features like exploring towns, islands, caves and dungeons on foot. You could steal enemy ships and have a group of 4 ships. There was actual sword and pistol fighting when you board ships or attack forts. Storms were very dangerous, especially trying to fight inside a storm. It had so many features that one would expect from a pirate game that this is completely missing.
An upgraded version of this came out just yesterday on steam.
Apparently there are some bugs to be fixed, but otherwise you might want to put it on your wishlist.
It's called Caribbean Legend and I have my eyes on it too. 🖖
Looks way more like a proper pirate game than Skull and Bones. @@theinnerlight8016
"Honestly, "Caribbean Legend" is just "Sea Dogs: To Each His Own" from 2012 with a "new" coat of paint. Expected a fresh adventure but got the same old bugs, outdated graphics, and clunky gameplay. The engine feels ancient, and the controls haven't improved at all.
Disappointed big time. Not worth the hype or money."
Yep I copied this from a steam review. @@theinnerlight8016
It’s when people who made these games had imagination. Ubisoft don’t care about games anymore. It’s lazy and greedy game making now that’s taken over. It’s sad because the potential is enormous.
This was the Bethesda version were you didn't play as any of the film characters? Was a great game
this is the PEAK ubisoft game - it just cannot get more ubisoft than this
Ubisoft: is that a challenge?
Because when I think of pirates, I definitely think of a ship full women shouting incessantly...
If i were to buy this game it'd be only to name my ship "Biggus Dickus".
Husband of Incontinentia.
Stinky Pinky is the name of my ship in Sea of Thieves. It's the little things that make a game great
Your ship is LGBT?
Boaty McBoatface.
He has a wife you know!
The main quest givers stay in their rooms THE ENTIRE STORY giving you orders while they barely DO ANYTHING THAN TALK
5:50 I love how the cannonballs curve towards the enemy ship once they’re fired out of the cannon.
Homing balls 😂
AAAA magic of course
They're using Worms weapons
"The first of many!"
WoW from 2005 got solutions like that for bullets. Must Hit the programmet point at front of hitbox. Nothing advanced to see here.
@@Infernal_Elf I thought it was sarcasm in the original comment... Now you make me doubt 🤣
For me in AC4 Black Flag the boats wer slow and cumbersome they had weight and were not easy to manoeuvre, the cannons took time to reload, you had to fight the current of the water and the wind all of this was brilliant as it added so much to the realism. All of that is gone in S&B and the boats they move on a sixpence and instead of feeling like being in command of a ship you feel like you're playing with a toy boat in the bath.
TLDR It's trash
My boat sounds like a hen do and Ubisoft have only had 13 years to make this were the best lines
Notice too that if you have 4 canons, it means you have 8 shots. Not a broadside where they all fire at once. No, 8 shots of rapid fire chaingun black powder canons. Which, magically all converge on your reticle rather than firing in an arcing field like they did in black flag. More canons in this game just means a larger "magazine" for your machine gun before you have to reload.
To be fair, most ships didn't fire all at once anyway. If you hold lmb they all fire one after another which was common.
@@Ethan-fz6tp But each canon doesnt fire twice, chain firing in rapid succession like it does in this game.
Yeah..who cares, I wouldn’t buy this trash game anyway
demi-cannons fire all at once
@@Ethan-fz6tpno ship can fire at once they have fire in a line or the ship would break a part
This review is priceless.
i laughed so hard when i saw Macks pirate crew. It caught off guard. And then i heard them speak hahahahahaha
also that character creation lololol
"Why are butt pirates butt pirates? They just Arrrrrre, fruits."
So Ubisoft actually managed to make a woke pirate game? 😂
Somebody needs to tell them that in reality, women weren't part of the crew, they were part of the bounty. Pirates were rapists and murderers ffs.
Female gunners. The captain's worst dream.
It’s for a “modern audience “. Didn’t you get the memo?
Lol, what a joke.
at least they're not on helm
So what!? The game also has torpedoes that never existed. Its a fantasy take on Piracy, give your sexism a day off!!
@@Anne_PatelAwh, Soy Boy got triggered. 🥲
@@Anne_Patel Female crew members, especially ones who are drawn in a modern woke way as these are, that is a *dystopian nightmare,* not a "fantasy."
3:13 Look at where they're shooting from and where the shells are moving, I didn't know they had automatic targeting back then.
Dull and Barebones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
lol ya it looks like a UE4 asset flip weekend gamejam.
Don't forget to add woke garbage propaganda too.
i knew this was a dead arival when they announced it. ubisoft never ceises to disappoint me.
When you think the bar can't go any lower
The world's first self-proclaimed AAAA game. Died. As soon as I heard about the AAAA game, I knew it would be a huge failure.
I'm now waiting for more AAAAA games
In 2050 It will be A x 10^20 games I can't wait.
Truly one of the best AAAA games of all time.
You're hilarious, Mack. AAAA gaming in 2024, the future is now!
I watched a friend stream this live, as soon as I saw you couldn't land anywhere, actually get in and out, and have to do the magic saw from the sea, I refused to believe this was an anticipated 2024 game. That's like RTS gameplay from 15-20 years ago.
😂😂 the josè bit... ' if I speak'
No sword fighting in a pirate game is crazzyy
save yourself and get Black Flag instead which actually lets you leave your ship and use your sword when boarding.
Forget fully automatic cannons, don't worry about trees chopping themselves down, ignore the boat manuvering like its on roller blades, no swords or pistols, insta-loot when boarding, bullet sponge ships, cannons that fire healing projectiles...
My favourite part of this game is the cannons firing projectiles 45 degrees in the wrong direction they are facing. I can believe or ignore the rest. But there's no reason to even graphically render a animation of a cannon in game, if it doesn't even match what's happening.
It would have been better off as a futuristic, open-world, robotic ship, ocean arena. What a mess.
7:50 That is some quadruple gaming right there baby!
They already created such a good and solid basis for a pirate game with AC: Black Flag...just to throw it all away. Oh Ubisoft...
Bro, I tell you, your review is spot on. I think cyberpunk 2077 opened the way for this new trend of delivering games that are unfinished. For this guy to confidently say this is a AAA+A tittle knowing that it s not but looking to the future might point to new features being released and gameplay being improved as time goes by. But garbage it is at this point unless mediocrity is ok. I hope Ubisoft gets it together or they will go extinct.
No sword and boarding combat in a pirate game
Also no swimming in a pirate game full of sea, 11 years in the making, 70 dollar AAAA game.
Literally got an ad for this game halfway through the review, the ad was the only thing they got right
Ubisoft CEO said we should get used to not owning games, this is the beginning of it. If you really do want the game forever, or at least until the servers stop, you will have to pay the insane price, 60 euro or 80 for premium edition, changes depending on country. But if you just get Ubisoft+ for a month, you can finish this entire game for just 18 euro.
Joke's on them, I am already quite used to not owning any Ubisoft games and I don't feel like I am missing out.
The next Like A Dragon Game will probably have a fully fleshed out pirate mini game better than this and they make those games every single year. They just keep getting better. Meanwhile Ubisoft can't even top games they made over a decade ago.
Or give us another Rayman game. :(
When you think it can't get any worse, you see a man who's supposedly a pirate doing Fortnite emotes and showing a love sign with his hands. Wonder what real pirates back then would have done with him...
I wasted £40 on this game. That's not even full price, i still feel robbed.
You said everything I’ve been thinking and more. You’ve gained yourself a subscriber
3:33 look at the trail of the cannonballs'. 2024 tech lol
Everyone completely misunderstood the devs. They meant its quadruple A for AAAAR, because its a pirate game.
Historical revision gone mad 😂
Worth noting, women on ships back in the day wasn’t uncommon, they were just “unofficial passengers.” A lot of even navy vessels would have several women that were smuggled aboard by the crew
Good alternatives:
-AC Black Flag
-Sid Meier's Pirates
-The Legend of Pirates Online (fan remake of Disney's Pirates Online)
-Sea of Thieves (as a last resort)
Would be funny if Singapore sued them anyway. They be like, "We gave you a grant for THIS?"
Love the look of cannonballs coming out at a 80 degree angle from the cannons
Sid Meier's Pirates for the C64 from 1987 had more depth.
When you sailed "out of bounds" across the grey fog boundary: at least they could have placed a sea monster where the map states "here lie dragons" to drive you back in bounds.
Every so often there is a review that stands out as head n shoulders above them all, and here it is !!! Congrat's.
*Grabs popcorn*
I've recently picked up the old Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on sale and have been absolutely pouring my time into the game. What an awesome RPG, better than anything I've played recently. What the hell has happened to the gaming industry in 20 years? Perhaps they are constantly feeling over ambitious and feeling the need to make things bigger and "better" than anyone else, yet all us gamers want is an immersive and focused experience. I think they've lost touch with that, and the indie side of developing has more limitations that force them to make focused, immersive games.
Why are the NPCs pulled straight from runescape (2001)?
So straight away crafting... I'm guessing Ubisoft never get the memo. Pirates aren't known for their craftsmanship. They're actually known for stealing stuff from people who already did the hard work. I know, shocking but then again Ubisoft can only make the one type of game.
Sid Meier's: Pirates! will likely never be beaten
I love how your cannons can fire diagonally.
The ad for this vid was skull and bones 😂
Don't believe what they told you in school: Pirates were humussexual!
A proper review 👏
They call it "quadriple A game" because those who have benn waiting this game fir years are like "AAAA! What the hell is that?!"
I guess since the triple A name has been polluted quite badly lately, they will come up with quadruple A some day soon.
At the very least they could have let you walk around the ship
and they said that this is just the beginning... of removing "normal" versions and raising the price to 70-120 lol (while having a live service game)
Skull and bones sticks a ship to your back like a turtle and make you carry around everywhere.
It's sad how they had already achieved near perfection with AC4 and they could've just used that formula and added an interesting story to it and it would be infinitely better than this...
I am also convinced that there are multiple departments independent from one another in Ubisoft, seeing how Anno games are actually decent and the new Prince of Persia is actually an interesting metroidvania style, which I enjoyed a lot. Somehow there's always one department that says "original idea, open world, mmorpg, adventure!" and fails miserably on every aspect.
Next game from Ubiverysoft will be quintuple A like in bleAAAAAh!
Well from what you say, its definitely not worth $70. Sounds like a game that one would lose interest in like less than a month.
I’m badly addicted to sekiro. As far as I’m concerned, fromsoftware is the only one making big boy games
Well I suppose if you're going to make a super-arcadey Pirate game you might as well have mostly women on board, things like immersion being no concern.
Moment they said you can’t own games, I decided not to buy anything anymore 😅😂 if that’s the way game industry going ooof
I expected nothing, and Im still let down.
Good, seems like sunk-cost fallacy for Ubisoft with this :D
Long development times are always a red flag. Always!
"If I speak, I am mm, in big trouble." lmao love ya Mack
When choosing your character why do they look like 50 valium and a bottle of rum? Black Flag fan 🏴
they had 11 years and an existing game with a sub-game loop that was better than this called Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.
Ubisoft is a fucking joke. If they had just released AC Black Flag with only ship battles again, it would still be better than this game.
people have been slapping game like this together AS SUB-QUESTS to other games (ass-creed also by ubi, monkey island, sid-pirates) and random indie titles or PvP free-to-pay games for DECADES, plus all the sci-fi (rebel galaxy) and other variants with massive acclaim already out there.
How the hell is this one worse looking in terms of quantitative gameplay than even the laziest indie top-down variant?
I was so looking forward to this game after Black Flag and Im so glad I didnt pre order because it is not the game I wanted
A Hen's Night in Blackpool.
AAAA is wild. Almost as wild as making your entire M.O. "how can we recycle FarCry 3's open world loop again?"
I don't understand how they mess this up so badly. I hope ubisoft doesn't expect us to own their game as we won't be buying it.
The thing i dont get is people defending this as a good game.... how is a loop of sailing around fun? yes if there was actual objectives of getting out your ship and going treasure hunting or other pirate things.....
Activision: 3000 devs
Ubisoft: AAAA game
What a time to be alive 🤡
Running at 1080p?! Ya philistine!
All we wanted was Sid Meier's Pirates using the Black Flag engine.
what u crazy , an open world Pirate game based on the Black Flag fundamentals, add the ability to walk around the ship in 1st person while sailing, fleet management, do raids on forts , towns, get chased down by the Royal Navy and maybe have some form of Shadow of Mordor Nemesis system against other Pirates, no one would want that :)
damn that was a great game! Forgot about that one.

That sounds pretty sick forgot about that shadow of Mordor game the nemesis system was great @@davidrenton
I am never going to be able to look at the character creation screen with a straight face ever again. 🤣
I'll never look at that character creation screen. (period).
Though this one time was quite funny I agree 🙂
What were they thinking?
That absolutely cracked me up. Have no idea what they were thinking ...
Surprising you ever did
Wait you bought this shite? I thought that was a joke at first but that's actually in the game? Holy shit, it's so fucking creepy
no sword and boarding combat in a pirate game.
11 years in the making.
AAAA must mean that they wasted more time and budget than they would have with a AAA game.
Who needs boarding, that sounds boring, you wanna upgrade n stuff right? Upgrade n collect, like, like, like Destiny here look Destiny lots collect goodies yummy progression very neat, we have that too! See here that coconut tree, now you click the tree and, be careful not to miss the sacred spot, strike at the right time when the icon shifts to get a coconut! Yes yes, lots of stuff, collect stuff, good good, good game, very good.
I’m okay with no boarding and wash buckling. We already have that with Sea of Theives and that game didn’t so so well not I’m not sure why everyone is complaining when they didn’t show a high demand for sea of thieves. Kind of weird if you ask me.
@@alexmendez3681then why release it at all? The only sea of thieves content I EVER saw popular on TH-cam was when people boarded ships
@@BanditoBurrito Because it’s a different experience! This game focuses on nautical combat. Some of us are tired of shooters and first person games.
Again, why design a game that is exactly like Sea of Thieves? That game was trash and no one bought it but now you guys want that same game again, make that make sense. If you want a sea of thieves experience than play sea of thieves. Haha. I’m so confused.
Boarding...no that would take work, and Ubisoft only had 13 years to make this. Lol, that was gold.
Yo mate I STRONGLY disagree. Cuz, you know, I played AC Odyssey back then and... well, they had ships (with upgrading and crew stuff) and you could also shoot and also board enemy ships and then play the AC-Arcade style combat on top of ships like... Well I did not even play Black Flag back then, but it seems even the other AC games had more pirate gameplay than a dedicated pirate game? My point being: Copy pasta your own games and you have boarding LOL. With 0 work MORE LOL.
Did they just invest into upgrading graphics for 13 years and didn't even bother to add gameplay to their game? I am left speechless after seeing all of that... (wait the graphics look like arcade s*** that would have been possible 13 years ago OMG WTF
@@puffel3178 didnt ask
Play black flag or any other Assassins creed if you want that 🤷♂️
It's pretty obvious they cancelled the game and had a "new vision" of trying like hell to recoup their cost at our cost.
I remember playing a pirate game from 1999 called Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas. You had ship to ship fighting, boarding, and the ability to go ashore with your crew and have land battles against towns, loot houses, blow up garrisons, and capture the town governor. It had the lot. Skull and Bones, a AAAA pirate game that has less depth than a game from 1999... smh.
That's the norm for AAA too lol. I don't buy corpo slop games anymore.
7 Cities of Gold for the C64 is deeper...
i remember a old game corsairs or something it also had boarding ather ships and fighting on the deck in window 95 era... + also attack towns / resupply and capture ather ships for you're fleet. Way more advanced then this trash pile of ubisoft XD dissapointment

The first time I came across a man o war in Black Flag I shit my panties.
I think that's what players wanted Ubisoft to recapture.
They did not.
When we encountered our first sea monster in Valheim our all crew went OOOOOOHH SHIT!!!
To be honest there are some high level privateers that will wreck you, later on in the game. It's fun if you have the plus subscription but not worth 70 bucks.
My heart still stops whenever the little boat in the distance turns out to not be so little up close..
I played ac4 a shit ton. Man o war would still scare me lol
Yeah that's my favourite pirate game for sure. The actual pirate part of Black Flag would be a great game on its own without the weird AC storylines and setpiece fights and that. In fact in my last playthrough, I barely advanced the story at all, just sailed around taking over other ships and exploring islands
